A four-year study headed by Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) has detailed a peculiar phenomenon in British Columbia’s waters: an unknown virus may be killing off large numbers of Fraser sockeye salmon. In studying B.C.’s renowned Fraser River sockeye, DFO researchers tracked adult salmon in the ocean and river to determine if successful and unsuccessful spawners were physiologically distinguishable prior to reaching the Fraser River. As many as 20 dead harp seals have washed ashore in Boat Harbour over the past couple of weeks, leaving perplexed locals scratching their heads as to the reasons why…
And it’s not just harp seals that have been swept into the harbour — hundreds of dead catfish have washed onto land, becoming entangled with the seaweed strewn along the shore.
A myriad of other marine life, like sea slugs, sea urchins and starfish have also perished in the past three weeks.
“I’ve never seen anything like it, b’y, in all my years,” Woodward said Thursday, “It’s just unbelievable.”

A massive wild bird kill is reported from a Beijing suburb.
Dozens of dead blackbirds, mallards and magpies have been found along the banks of the Xiaojing River, according to the Huang’jiu Ribao newspaper.
A staff member of a centre for hygiene and epidemiological control does not rule out that the birds have died of starvation and unfavourable weather conditions.
Mass bird deaths for no obvious reason has been registered in Sweden, the United States, Italy and Canada since early this year.
Dozens of Ducks Found Dead Along Maumee Bay Shore in Oregon
It was a mystery of sorts in Oregon Thursday morning. People who live along Maumee Bay in one neighborhood woke up to find nearly two dozen dead ducks on the shore. 55 Buffalo Die Mysteriously on Southern Cayuga County, New York
Sempronius buffalo farmer Peter Head has lost 55 animals to a mysterious illness since October, but autopsies have shown no clear cause of death. “We’re going nuts down here trying to figure out what’s going on,” he said. “This is going to put me out of business. That’s half my frickin’ herd.” Head and his wife Deborah have run PDH Buffalo Farm on Route 41A for nine years. This year, 17 of his 23 calves died and he has stopped selling meat as a precaution. Large number of dead, half rotten, fish found floating around northern Norway
This is now beyond weird – its plain spooky. Reports of mass animal deaths keeps coming in. Any plausible explanations, however, is totally absent. On Tuesday, 200 cows was found death on a farm in Portage County, Wisconsin, USA. Cause of death is yet to be determined. Yesterday a large number of dead, half rotten, fish was found floating in the area around Stjernøya in northern Norway.
