Lakeside residents in Vermont began reporting thousands of dead alewives showing up along the shore earlier this month. Vermont fisheries biologists say alewives, a species not native to the lake, are sensitive to frigid temperatures and likely died off during the winter.” Read more.

UK Issues ‘Deport to Afghanistan’ Death Sentences for Converts from Islam to Christianity
By Sam Jones – “Two Afghan asylum seekers, who say they fear they will be killed for being Christian if they are returned home, are to be deported to Kabulon Wednesday.
Ahmed Faizi, 29, has been on a hunger strike at the Harmondsworth immigration removal centre near Heathrow for six days.
According to friends, Faizi – who has a cross tattooed on his right arm – is convinced that he will be killed if forced to return to Afghanistan. He told a friend: ‘If the Taliban don’t execute me for being a Christian, my family will.’
His friend said that Faizi was physically weak and worried that the recent burning of a Koran in the US would make Afghanistan even more hostile to Christian converts.
‘He told me that if he goes back, people will kill him and it’s much better if he dies here.'” Read more.
Muslim Group Claims Royal Wedding is Legitimate Terror Target
By Victoria Ward – “Muslims Against Crusades, which had its application to protest on Friday turned down by police, yesterday urged Muslims to stay away from central London when Prince William marries Kate Middleton and to avoid all means of public transport due to the heightened risk of an attack.
Assad Ullah, leader of the extremist campaign group, insisted that it had no ‘inside knowledge’ but was simply repeating security fears that have already been widely reported.
‘There is a legitimate Islam opinion that those who have been attacked have the right to retaliate,’ he said.
‘British foreign policy is causing this kind of feeling and increasing the instability in this country. We do not advocate violence but can see how they made themselves a legitimate target for others.’
Announcing that the group had abandoned its plans to protest against the wedding, group spokesman Abu Abbas said: ‘We urge all Muslims to stay away from the royal wedding, not only because of the drinking, drug taking and sexual promiscuity but because of the likelihood of an attack by the Mujahideen.'” Read more.
Egyptian Gas Pipeline to Israel Attacked and Blown Up By An ‘Unknown Armed Gang’
“A pipeline carrying gas from Egypt to Israel and Jordan has exploded after an attack by an armed gang in the north Sinai area of Egypt.
A tower of flames shot into the air and forced the pipeline to be shut down, Egyptian security officials say.
It is the second such attack in a month on the pipeline, south of the town of el-Arish, just 30 miles (50km) from the border with Israel.
On that occasion, when gunmen planted explosives, they failed to detonate.
‘An unknown armed gang attacked the gas pipeline,’ an unnamed security source told Reuters, adding that the flow of gas to Israel and Jordan had been hit.” Read more.

Ethiopian Muslims Beat Christian Evangelist to Death, Assault His Pregnant Wife
By Jennifer LeClaire – “Four Ethiopian Muslims beat a Christian evangelist to death and assaulted his pregnant wife last week in Worabe, an area of Ethiopia that is 97 percent Muslim.
In a premeditated operation, the alleged murderers lured evangelist Abraham Abera from his Kale Hiwot Church at 9:30 p.m. by urging him to visit a sick friend. Abera left with the men, only to be beaten with rods. When his wife, Birtukan, saw the attack she ran into the fray to try to help her husband. That’s when they turned and attacked her.
According to a report from International Christian Concern (ICC), Abera died at the scene of the crime. Birtukan was left for dead with a severe head injury.” Read more.

Dearborn’s First Amendment Barbecue
By Henry Payne – “By burning the First Amendment, Dearborn mayor John O’Reilly Jr. and his Wayne County cronies have managed to make nutty pastor Terry Jones a free speech hero, united the left-wing ACLU and right-wing Thomas More Law Center, stereotyped Muslims as intolerant zealots, and put Dearborn on the map as a bastion of small-town ayatollahs.
With friends like Mayor O’Reilly, who needs enemies?
O’Reilly’s outrageous action against the Quran-burning quack — resulting in a Wayne County jury’s conviction of Jones for planning a demonstration in front to the Dearborn Islamic Center on Good Friday — has made Dearborn the laughingstock of First Amendment constitutionalists everywhere.
‘We were arrested for something we had not done,’ said Jones, who has retained the conservative More Center in a lawsuit against the City of Dearborn.
‘This should have never come to this point to begin with,’ said Rana Elmir of the ACLU of Michigan. ‘The judge should have dismissed the case. It’s a complete abuse of the court process, and all those involved should be ashamed.’
‘(District Judge Mark Somers) should have thrown this case out of court immediately,’ agreed Wayne State Constitutional scholar Robert Sedler. ‘And (Wayne County prosecutor) Kym Worthy should know the law. People have a right to use the public street to express their views.’
Alas, Judge Somers only threw gasoline on O’Reilly’s fire by ordering Jones to stay away from the mosque for three years.” Read more.
