Japan Scientist: Fukushima is ‘Graver than Chernobyl … No One Can Predict How the Situation Will Develop’

“TOKYO, April 25 (UPI) — Radiation leaks remain a health threat for areas around Japan’s crippled Fukushima nuclear power plant, officials said.

The crisis at the plant resulted from an earthquake and tsunami March 11.

Some experts believe the Fukushima crisis is more serious than that resulting from an explosion at Ukraine’s Chernobyl power plant 25 years ago, the Mainichi Daily News reported Monday.

‘It’s graver than Chernobyl in that no one can predict how the situation will develop,’ said Atsushi Kasai, a former senior researcher with the Japan Atomic Energy Research Institute.

In addition to danger from leaking radioactivity, Japanese citizens are also at risk of psychological illnesses, officials said.”  Read more.

The Devolution of Beach Safety – Bacteria Scare Closes Popular Darwin Beaches

04/25/2011 Leave a comment

By James Glenday – “Tests have found dangerous levels of harmful bacteria in the water at two popular Darwin beaches, causing their closure as tourists and locals flock to the recreation area of East Point.

Both Lake Alexander and nearby East Point beach are officially closed but many people are ignoring advice and taking the plunge.

Darwin City Council tests early last month found bacteria levels on the beach were seven times more than the amount considered dangerous.

The most recent test from the Lake Alexander spillway was nearly double the dangerous amount.

Council water testers say human or animal faeces are responsible for the bacteria but they do not know where it is coming from.” Read more.

Obama Commemorates All Muslim Holidays, But Skips Christianity’s Most Sacred

04/25/2011 2 comments

“President Obama failed to release a statement or a proclamation recognizing the national observance of Easter Sunday, Christianity’s most sacred holiday.

By comparison, the White House has released statements recognizing the observance of major Muslim holidays and released statements in 2010 on Ramadan, Eid-ul-Fitr, Hajj, and Eid-ul-Adha.

The White House also failed to release a statement marking Good Friday. However, they did release an eight-paragraph statement heralding Earth Day. Likewise, the president’s weekend address mentioned neither Good Friday or Easter.

However, the First Family did attend an Easter Sunday worship service at a Baptist church and last week, the president hosted an Easter breakfast for Christian ministers. In that gathering, the president spoke openly about the Christian faith.

And today, the president and first lady will host 30,000 people for the annual White House Easter Egg Roll. The secular celebration of Easter includes readings, games, and a yoga garden. This year’s theme, ‘Get Up and Go!’ is part of the first lady’s anti-obesity campaign and will also display produce from the White House garden.”  Read more.

By SAAD ABDUL-KADIR – “BAGHDAD – At least seven people were injured when a bomb outside the entrance of a Baghdad church exploded on Easter Sunday, an Iraqi police official said.

The blast took place just yards (meters) from the Sacred Heart Church in Baghdad’s Karradah neighborhood. Shrapnel from the bomb struck the outside of the building, and at least four of the church’s windows were shattered. Shards of broken glass lay on the street in front of the building.

Like many Baghdad houses of worship, the church is surrounded by blast walls to protect it from such attacks.

The officer said no parishioners were inside and services had not been held in the building.”  Read more.

Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt: Prepare for an Islamic Government

04/24/2011 Leave a comment

“The role of the Muslim Brotherhood is to mobilize the nation to establish a way of life based on Islam, said its Deputy Supreme Guide Khairat al-Shater.

Speaking at a conference in Alexandria two days ago, Shater further said that the group is preparing to initiate an Islamic government to achieve progress based on Islamic principles, and that its objective is to establish an Islamic state and become world leaders.

Pointing out that no Sunni state currently has a regime with Islamic references, he urged Muslim scholars to contribute an workable, comprehensive, civilized Islamic model.

Asked about the recent resignations of some Brotherhood leaders, Shater said, ‘If two Brotherhood members have left, a hundred join every day.'”  Read more.

By Yair Altman – “A group of Breslov Hassidim’s regular twilight visit to Palestinian controlled Joseph’s Tomb in Nablus came to a tragically violent end Sunday: According to one of the Breslovers, Palestinian police officers fired at the convoy as they were on their way in to the Tomb.

The fire continued as they drove out, killing Ben-Yosef Livnat, a 24 year-old father of four from Jerusalem and the nephew of Minister Limor Livnat, and injuring five others…

‘When we got back to the vehicles the police shot at the vehicles, they were screaming ‘Allahu Akbar’. It was crazy, they were shooting to kill. I screamed at the driver to drive out of there quickly. When we got to Har Bracha we attended to the wounded.'” Read more.

“PANTUKAN, Philippines, April 24 (Xinhua) — Survivors of the avalanche of mud in Philippines said Sunday over 60 people were buried alive in Friday’s landslide, and the number could be higher than what authorities had thought of.

Lambert Detros, 47, a small scale miner who suffered bruises and was confined at a local hospital, told Xinhua on Sunday that more than 60 people sleeping in tents were on site when the tragedy occurred.

‘More than 60 people were in the area when the landslide happened. I saw them before night time,’ Detros said in Filipino.

‘Stones rolling from hill woke me up. I look from my tent’s window and saw mud everywhere. I hurriedly ran but I was trapped. Later, my relatives pulled me from the mud,’ Detros added.”  Read more.

Muslims Post Qur’anic Verse Near Nazareth Church Stating Non-Muslims are Going to Hell

04/23/2011 Leave a comment

By David Gardner – “In a square in Nazareth, right below the Basilica of the Annunciation, a Koranic verse warns that ‘whoever seeks a religion other than Islam, it will never be accepted of him, and in the Hereafter he will be one of the losers’. Yet it is the spectre of losing in the here-and-now that most haunts the dwindling number of adherents to Christianity in the land of its birthplace.

In the hometown of Jesus, where it all began two millennia ago, Christians feel under siege. This fear is not limited to Nazareth or the Holy Land. Across the Arab world, Christians ask whether they are an endangered species: threatened by Islamist radicals; forced by limited opportunities at home to seek new lives abroad; accused of complicity in the schemes of foreign predators; and now menaced by the wave of revolution ripping through the region — which some fear could uncover the submerged hard-wiring of sectarianism.”  Read more.

Michigan Jails Pastor to Avert ‘Muslim Riots’

04/23/2011 Leave a comment

Regardless of what one may think about Terry Jones and him burning the Qur’an as a protest against radical Islamism, something is terribly wrong in America when the Land of the Free begins to deny someone their First Amendment rights by denying freedom of expression and then jailing them. This action says only one thing to would-be Islamists: threaten violence, and you’ll get your way.  Ignoring the US Constitution and denying someone their right to peaceful protest sets a dangerous precedent.  The question now is, where will this lead?

BY Alan Kurtz – “In a Good Friday showdown, Chief Judge Mark Somers of Michigan’s 19th District Court saved countless lives from Muslim rioters by torching the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Somers, a Methodist, figuratively stood in the doorway of the Islamic Center of America, the continent’s largest mosque, to shield it from a planned protest by Dr. Terry Jones, Qur’an-burning pastor of a charismatic Christian church in Gainesville, Florida.

The [Islamic Center of America], which bills itself as ‘more than a place of worship but an Institution and a beacon for Islam in North America,’ is located in Dearborn, a third of whose 98,000 inhabitants are Muslims. Naturally this attracted Pastor Jones like a bee to honey for a demonstration against jihad, Sharia, and other tenets of radical Islamism.

Although Jones made clear that Qur’an burning was not on his agenda, local authorities balked. After the City of Dearborn denied Jones a permit to protest outside the mosque, he was given the option of demonstrating in a designated ‘free speech zone.’ Failing to understand how free speech can be zoned, Pastor Jones declined and reiterated his intention to peacefully protest at the mosque, permitted or not.

Wayne County prosecutors thereupon sought court-ordered prior restraint, arguing that the threat of violence was too great to allow Jones anywhere near the mosque. Assistant Prosecutor Robert Moran warned that ‘people could die’ should the protest proceed.”  Read more.

Meanwhile, Muslims praise Allah while the US Constitution is trampled, a constitution that they themselves will quote and point to when it comes to building mosques throughout the United States (cough, such as the one near Ground Zero, cough):
