US: Churches to Read Torah in Response to Other ‘Churches’ That Read From the Qur’an

08/08/2011 Leave a comment

By Gil Ronen – “Churches in the U.S. are preparing to read sections of the Torah on Sunday, August 13, in a show of solidarity with Israel and the Jewish people.

The move is a response to an initiative by a group of churches that read from the Muslim Koran during their services on Sunday, June 26. According to the Faith Shared project, which initiated the Koran reading, 66 churches from 32 states joined that effort.

In an effort to counter the move, a grassroots movement of churches across America is preparing to read from sections of the Torah during their services.

According to Pastor Mark Biltz, one of the pastors leading the move, while Jewish communities around the world read the Shema prayer, Christian communities will join them in solidarity. ‘There is a special bond between Jews and Christians, as both hold as the greatest commandment to love the L-rd their G-d with all their heart,’ Pastor Biltz explained. ‘So I’ve also posted the Shema in as many languages as I could find on our website so everyone could see it.’

‘I am asking in a show of solidarity with the G-d of Israel, the G-d of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob that churches/organizations join together in one accord and read from the Torah during their Saturday/Sunday services this coming August 13 and 14,’ he wrote.

Biltz went on to say that ‘The suggested reading from this Torah portion is the greatest commandment, found in Deuteronomy 6:4-9, that we love the Lord with all our heart, soul and strength.’

The pastor is referring to the verses after the one-line Shema prayer. The reading will obviously not be from a parchment hand-written Torah scroll.

‘It is known in Judaism as the Shema and begins with asking Israel to hear and obey the Lord and realize He is the one and only G-d. This date was chosen because the Jewish people all over the world will be reading that portion on that weekend. So Christians will literally be joining a chorus of voices proclaiming on earth and to the heavens that the G-d of Israel is the One and Only G-d and that we are to love Him above all others!! This weekend also is the weekend right after the Ninth of Av and begins the readings of speaking comfort to Jerusalem.'” Read more.

Virginia: Red Tide Algae Blooms Hitting Chesapeake Bay

08/08/2011 Leave a comment

By Scott Harper – “They have become sad summer rites in local waters that feed the Chesapeake Bay: algae blooms, also known as red tides or brown tides. And once again, they have arrived to stain creeks and rivers, frighten swimmers and threaten fish and oyster stocks.

On Friday, the blooms thrived in patches across much of the Lafayette River in Norfolk – great swaths of mahogany and brick-red streaks, looking like someone either spilled oil or dropped a huge load of paint overboard.

And then, suddenly, the unhealthy coloring stopped and the water again turned its normal shade of light green – healthy and sick, side by side, even touching.

From a boat piloted by Chris Moore, a scientist with the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, the Lafayette almost seemed its normal self on an August afternoon, with people out fishing, sailing and tending to their riverfront yards.

But Moore knows better.

‘This is a sign that we need to improve our water quality,’ Moore said after cruising through an especially red and thick blanket, just off Colonial Place, a low-lying waterfront neighborhood.

Blooms are modern phenomenons that typically occur in the lower Chesapeake in July or August, then hang around until fall, unwelcome and unpredictable. The state Health Department warns swimmers and fishermen to avoid darkly colored waters.” Read more.

Tepco Reports Second Deadly Radiation Reading at Fukushima Nuclear Plant

08/07/2011 Leave a comment

By Tsuyoshi Inajima and Kari Lundgren – “Tokyo Electric Power Co. reported its second deadly radiation reading in as many days at its wrecked Fukushima nuclear plant north of Tokyo.

The utility known as Tepco said yesterday it detected 5 sieverts of radiation per hour in the No. 1 reactor building. On Aug. 1 in another area it recorded radiation of 10 sieverts per hour, enough to kill a person ‘within a few weeks’ after a single exposure, according to the World Nuclear Association.

Radiation has impeded attempts to replace cooling systems to bring three melted reactors and four damaged spent fuel ponds under control after a tsunami on March 11 crippled the plant. The latest reading was taken on the second floor of the No. 1 reactor building and will stop workers entering the area.

‘It’s probably the first of many more to come,’ said Michael Friedlander, who spent 13 years operating nuclear power plants in the U.S., including the Crystal River Station in Florida. ‘Although I am not surprised, it concerns me greatly; the issue is the worker safety.’

The 10 sieverts of radiation detected on Aug. 1 outside reactor buildings was the highest the Geiger counters used were capable of reading, indicating the level could have been higher, Junichi Matsumoto, a general manager at the utility, said at a press conference.” Read more.

Canadian Gov’t Now Admits: Japan’s Fukushima Catastrophe Bringing Massive Radiation Spikes Over Canada – “On March 18, seven days after an earthquake and tsunami triggered eventual nuclear meltdowns at the Fukushima Daiichi plant in Japan, the first radioactive material wafted over the Victoria suburb of Sidney on Vancouver Island. For 22 days, a Health Canada monitoring station in Sidney detected iodine-131 levels in the air that were 61 percent above the government’s allowable limit. In Resolute Bay, Nunavut, the levels were 3.5 times the limit. Meanwhile, government officials claimed there was nothing to worry about.” Read more.

18 Indonesian Volcanoes on Alert Status

08/07/2011 Leave a comment

“Eighteen Indonesian volcanoes are on ‘alert’ status, two of which are at Alert Level 3, which is called ‘Siaga’, the Volcanology and Geology Disaster Mitigation Center says.

Center head Surono said Sunday in Jakarta the erupting Mount Lokon in North Sulawesi and Mount Ibu in North Maluku were the two volcanoes at Siaga status.

The center has adopted four levels of alert status: ‘Normal’ (Level 1), ‘Waspada’ (Level 2), ‘Siaga’ (Level 3) and ‘Awas’ (Level 4).

Surono said the conditions at Mt Lokon and Mt Ibu were currently considered most worrisome because they had been consistently erupting searing clouds affecting a radius of 2.5 kilometers.

He added, however, that the eruptions had not yet endangered people living around the volcanoes.

‘The eruptions are heading west, while people are concentrated in east,’ he said as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.

Surono added that 16 other volcanoes were at Level 2 alert status, ‘Waspada’, including Mt. Papandayan and Mt. Guntur in West Java.

‘Locals have reported several quakes,’ he said.” Read more.

Indonesian volcano unleashes fresh burst – “A volcano that has been spewing lava and clouds of searing gas high into the air let out a new, powerful burst Monday, sending panicked villagers streaming down the sides of the mountain. One person was injured, said Ludianto, head of the search and rescue team, a man who fell as he was fleeing. The victim suffered only cuts and bruises, however, and no burns as earlier reported. Mount Karangetang on Siau — part of the Sulawesi island chain — started spitting clouds of gas and lava up to 600 meters on Friday, said volcanologist Surono.” Read more.

Israel’s Foreign Minister: PA Planning ‘Unprecedented Bloodshed’ in September After UN Endorsement of Palestinian Independence

08/07/2011 Leave a comment

“JERUSALEM — Israel’s foreign minister on Sunday accused the Palestinian Authority of planning “unprecedented bloodshed” next month after an expected symbolic U.N. endorsement of Palestinian independence.

Accenting his warning, Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman called for Israel to sever ties with the West Bank-based government.

Lieberman’s allegation runs counter to other Israeli assessments and stands in stark contrast to public and private statements by the Palestinians.

‘They say they don’t want violence, but the Palestinian Authority is planning unprecedented bloodshed,’ his spokesman Tzachi Moshe quoted Lieberman as saying.

‘They are going to send waves of people to storm roadblocks,’ Lieberman said, according to his spokesman. ‘Israel should cut all ties with them.’

Palestinian spokesman Ghassan Khatib denied the Palestinians were preparing for violence. ‘These Israeli predictions of violence aren’t true. Israel is trying to fuel a fake picture of what will happen in September.’

‘In September, we will request the international community’s help — legally and according to law — from the U.N. to help us end the illegal occupation. What is illegal here is the occupation, not the attempts to end it,’ Khatib said.” Read more.

Palestinians Plan Mass Demonstrations Against Israel on Eve of UN Vote – “Palestinian officials said Monday they plan to begin mass marches against Israel’s occupation of the West Bank on September 20, the eve of a largely symbolic UN vote expected to recognize their independence. Palestinian official Yasser Abed Rabbo said leaders hope to attract millions, and the protest will be the first of a prolonged effort. He said the campaign would be called ‘Palestine 194,’ since the Palestinians hope to become the 194th member of the United Nations. ‘The appeal to the UN is a battle for all Palestinians, and in order to succeed, it needs millions to pour into streets,’ he said.” Read more.

Solar Flares May Impact Communications This Weekend

08/05/2011 Leave a comment

By JUSTIN HO – “Energy released from solar plasma blasts will reach Earth throughout Friday and Saturday, potentially disrupting communications and electrical grids, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

The explosion on the sun’s surface could affect precision satellite systems such as GPS and high-frequency radio waves, which airlines use for communication.

‘High-precision GPS navigation systems may not work as well today,’ said Joseph Kunches, a space scientist for the NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center.

Friday’s explosion is second of three recent blasts on the sun’s surface directed toward the Earth. The experts said the current wave could go on until Saturday night at the latest.

‘You can think of them as sort of tsunamis in space,’ said SWPC Director Tom Bogdan. ‘The first one was fairly weak, and we’re now seeing the next one coming in.’

However, Bogdan said these effects will be more potent throughout the next few years, adding that Friday’s storm is a ‘two or three out of five’ in terms of its potential impact. This kind of activity will increase in frequency, he said, peaking sometime around 2013.” Read more.

Faber: Brace for a Global ‘Reboot’ and a War, World Economy is Rolling Towards Total Collapse

08/05/2011 Leave a comment

By Peter Guest – “Markets could rebound after Thursday’s global market sell-off, but investors should see any bounce as a selling opportunity, as the world economy rolls towards total collapse, Mark Faber, editor and publisher of the Boom, Doom and Gloom Report, told CNBC Friday.

A mooted third round of quantitative easing in the U.S. and more money printing elsewhere is merely deferring a crisis that will be bigger and could end in war, Faber said.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average suffered its worst losses in three years Thursday, shedding more than 500 points.

‘My view is that the market has experienced everywhere huge technical damage,’ Faber said. ‘As of today, all markets are extremely oversold, so a rebound is going to happen (Friday) or on Monday, but the damage technically is so great that the rebound, no matter whether QE3 happens right here, it’s unlikely to lift markets above the May 2 high of 1370.’

Faber thinks that by the end of the fall, the S&P 500 will have slid to around 1150, and investors will be hoping that further round of monetary easing will stabilize markets.

‘In general, I would be using rebounds as a selling opportunity,’ Faber said.

Buying Treasurys as a safe haven is no longer a smart play, he added.” Read more.

‘UNPRECEDENTED’: S&P downgrades U.S. credit rating – “The United States lost its top-notch AAA credit rating from Standard & Poor’s on Friday in an unprecedented reversal of fortune for the world’s largest economy. S&P cut the long-term U.S. credit rating by one notch to AA-plus on concerns about the government’s budget deficits and rising debt burden. The move is likely to raise borrowing costs eventually for the American government, companies and consumers.” Read more.

Russian Volcano Shows Signs Of Impending Eruption

08/05/2011 Leave a comment

By MARK DUNPHY – “The Kamchatka Peninsula, along Russia’s Pacific coast, is currently the most volcanically active area in the world: four volcanoes are erupting simultaneously, and a fifth is showing signs of an impending eruption.

Ash plumes from two of these volcanoes are visible in this natural-colour satellite image.Along the northern (top) edge of the image Shiveluch emits a broad gray plume from the lava dome growing on its southern flank. 90 kilometres (60 miles) to the southwest a much smaller plume escapes from Bezymianny.

This image was acquired by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) aboard the Aqua satellite on August 3, 2011. Bright green vegetation covers the river floodplains and mountainsides, which gives way to bare rock and eventually snow at higher elevations.” Source.

Former Comptroller General of the United States: ‘Sudden And Very Painful’ Economic Collapse Is Coming

08/05/2011 Leave a comment

By Steve Watson – “Former head of the Government Accountability Office and Comptroller General of the United States, David Walker has issued a stark warning following the compromise deal to raise the debt ceiling.

‘We are less than three years away from where Greece had its debt crisis as to where they were from debt to GDP,’ Walker highlighted in an interview with CNBC earlier today.

Greece’s ratio of debt to GDP has surpassed 100% and is heading towards 150%, a factor that has meant without bailouts from the EU and the IMF, the country would have defaulted.

The US is now nearing the same 100% margin with GDP growth floundering below 1%.

‘We should recognize that this could be a leading indicator for us,’ Walker said, adding that something must be done now to significantly restructure government spending if a major collapse is to be avoided in the future.

Walker, who has long spoken out against wasteful federal spending, urged that the nation should ‘deal with the disease, instead of the symptoms,’ adding that increasing the debt ceiling as well as federal budget deficits will inevitably lead to the same situation in the US as has been witnessed in Greece.” Read more.

Wisconsin: Hundreds of Young Black People Attack Whites Outside State Fair, ‘It Was 100% Racial … They Were Attacking Everybody’

08/05/2011 Leave a comment

Matthew 24:6-7, 12, “And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all [these things] must come to pass, but the end is not yet.  For ‘ethnos‘ shall rise against ‘ethnos‘ … And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.”

Sorry, Rodney.  Memories are more selective today than ever.  Yet again, instead of stepping away from a history that should by now have been well behind us all, an increasing number of black youth in America relish the idea of ‘acting stupidly‘ …

“WEST ALLIS – Witnesses tell Newsradio 620 WTMJ and TODAY’S TMJ4 of a mob of young people attacking innocent fair-goers at the end of the opening night of State Fair, with some callers claiming a racially-charged scene.

Milwaukee Police confirmed there were assaults outside the fair.

Witnesses’ accounts claim everything from dozens to hundreds of young black people beating white people as they left State Fair Thursday night.

Authorities have not given official estimates of the number of people involved in the attacks.

‘It looked like they were just going after white guys, white people,’ said Norb Roffers of Wind Lake in an interview with Newsradio 620 WTMJ. He left the State Fair Entrance near the corner of South 84th Street and West Schlinger Avenue in West Allis.

‘They were attacking everybody for no reason whatsoever.’

‘It was 100% racial,’ claimed Eric, an Iraq war veteran from St. Francis who says young people beat on his car.

‘I had a black couple on my right side, and these black kids were running in between all the cars, and they were pounding on my doors and trying to open up doors on my car, and they didn’t do one thing to this black couple that was in this car next to us. They just kept walking right past their car. They were looking in everybody’s windshield as they were running by, seeing who was white and who was black. Guarantee it.’

Eric, a war veteran, said that the scene he saw Thursday outside State Fair compares to what he saw in combat.” Read more.

Flashback: Race relations are now worse in America… despite nation’s first black president, says new poll – “Hopes that race relations in America would improve with the election of the nation’s first black president have been dashed – with figures showing that the situation has actually worsened in the past two years. A new poll found that just 36 per cent of voters now believed that relations between black and white was getting better. This is compared with 62 per cent a year ago and 55 per cent in April.” Read more.

Rewriting History: Obama Spreads False Claim That Thomas Jefferson Hosted First Ramadan Iftar Dinner at White House

08/04/2011 1 comment

“The State Department retails the PC myth in this article, ‘Thomas Jefferson’s Iftar,’ July 29. Nor is this the first time this falsehood has gone around: the State announcement quotes Barack Obama saying last year: ‘Ramadan is a reminder that Islam has always been a part of America. The first Muslim ambassador to the United States, from Tunisia, was hosted by President Jefferson, who arranged a sunset dinner for his guest because it was Ramadan — making it the first known iftar at the White House, more than 200 years ago.’

Longtime Jihad Watch writer Hugh Fitzgerald busted this myth in his piece ‘Barack Obama, The New York Times, that Iftar Dinner, and the rewriting of history,’ which was first published here at Jihad Watch on August 26, 2010. Here it is again:” Read more.

Is Obama Trying to Collapse the Economy? – “Combine class warfare, demonizing the rich, getting as many people onto the welfare rolls as possible, and pushing the economic system to collapse and you have a flawless formula for Cloward-Piven 2.0 — and a vehicle that ensures Obama remains in power… The duo taught that if you flooded the welfare rolls and bankrupted the cities and ultimately the nation, it would foster economic collapse, which would lead to political turmoil so severe that socialism would be accepted as a fix to an out-of-control set of circumstances.” Read more.

White House Insider: ‘Everyone Stunned At How Little Barack Obama Understands’ – “A quick update following the almost-concluded debt ceiling negotiations paints a fascinating picture of Democrats and Republicans agreeing on one thing – the leadership fiasco that is President Obama. Democrats are so upset in fact, serious whispers of a primary challenger to Obama are now quickly spreading within the party… Everyone [is] stunned over how little Barack Obama understands about anything. Told Harry Reid came out of a meeting with Obama over the weekend ‘visibly shaking’ he was so angry at how little the president seemed to care about the process and related details of the agreement, and how flip and dismissive he was toward Senator Reid.” Read more.
