Analysts: Iran May ‘Violently’ Disrupt Oil Shipping in Persian Gulf and Close the Strait of Hormuz if Attacked

“Iran is contemplating violently shutting down shipping in the Persian Gulf as one of several counterattack options if Israel strikes its nuclear facilities, regional and intelligence analysts say.

Such attacks would present the Obama administration with the option of undertaking a limited war against Iran by striking its warships and shore-based anti-ship missiles to keep the Gulf open for business.

Former CIA analyst Larry C. Johnson said Iran has enough firepower to effectively close the Gulf and Strait of Hormuz, through which 40 percent of all the world’s oil moves.

‘One of the things that Iran has exercised, has the capability to do, is shut down the Persian Gulf,’ Mr. Johnson said. ‘The best-case scenario is they shut it down for a week. The worst case is they shut it down for three to four months.’

He said Iran could unleash small boats laden with explosives ‘that we don’t have adequate covers for. Add to that the ability to fire multiple missiles. Our naval force will try to stop it, and that’s the hope.’

Mr. Johnson, now a consultant on counterterrorism, said Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, which has orchestrated attacks against the U.S. in Iraq, also likely would hit targets in Saudi Arabia and other Gulf nations.

‘I think we would be looking at a significant wave of terrorist retaliation by them,’ he said.

Over the past two weeks, Israeli media have reported that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been seeking consensus on attacking Iran’s nuclear sites ahead of a U.N. atomic agency report last week that said the Islamic republic has engaged in activity consistent with building a nuclear weapon.

Frank J. Gaffney Jr., a former senior Pentagon official who runs the Center for Security Policy, said Iran’s ruling mullahs have always had designs on attacking the U.S., and an Israeli attack might prompt them to do so.

‘I think they will try to do as much damage to as many of us as they can,’ Mr. Gaffney said. “My guess is they will try options to have Hezbollah cells engage in attacks around the world against our forces.” Read more.

Flashback: Confirmed: Hezbollah Terror Operatives, “Sleeper Cells” Poised in the U.S – “Operatives of the Lebanese Islamic terrorist organization Hezbollah, the same group presently firing missiles into Israel and labeled as one of the most dangerous Islamic terrorist group in the world, are believed ‘to be planning to activate sleeper cells located in New York and other larger cities inside the U.S.’ to stage attacks Americans. ‘The FBI and Justice Department have launched urgent new probes in New York and other cities targeting members of the Lebanese terror group.’ Law-enforcement and intelligence officials stated that “about a dozen hard-core supporters of Hezbollah have been identified in recent weeks as operating in the New York City area (alone).’ The above appeared in an article published in The New York Post on May 22, 2006. Not surprisingly, that very same information was verified through several sources within law enforcement agencies and agents contacted by the Northeast Intelligence Network this weekend… Their international operational budget is estimated to be $200-$500 million annually, including $100 million in contributions provided directly by Iran.” Read more.

Might they go even further than just blocking the Strait of Hormuz and start lobbing missiles at bombs at the oilfields of Kuwait, S.A., the Emirates, getting right at the source?

Rev 18:17-19: And every shipmaster and every passenger and sailor, and as many as make their living by the sea, stood at a distance, and were crying out as they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, ‘What city is like the great city?’ And they threw dust on their heads and were crying out, weeping and mourning, saying, ‘Woe, woe, the great city, in which all who had ships at sea became rich by her wealth, for in one hour she has been laid waste!’

Isa 34:5, 7-9: For My sword is satiated in heaven, Behold it shall descend for judgment upon Edom And upon the people whom I have devoted to destruction… Thus their land will be soaked with blood, And their dust become greasy with fat. For the LORD has a day of vengeance, A year of recompense for the cause of Zion. Its streams will be turned into pitch, And its loose earth into brimstone, And its land will become burning pitch. It will not be quenched night or day; Its smoke will go up forever.

kurt – something else of interest – check the Arabian plate at this link which may be interesting in the very near future – almost 95% of the ME oil lies either in or on this plate or along side of it – the fault lines go through both the Red Sea and the Persian Gulf – Isreal – and join the Great Rift Fault line – both Iran and Turkey are having quakes the last months as is Saudi – billions and billions of barrels of oil and interior formation pressures have been sucked out of and surounding this plate since the 1940s and continue today at millions of barrels per day – this whole area is on a hair pin trigger seismeticaly – there is a 75′ cliff just North of Q8 where historically this plate has dropped suddenly – my thoughts are that it may have been caused by the earthquake in Uzzaihs days

Willard, I wonder if this verse could also be talking about an earthquake? What does “loose earth” mean?

Plate tectonics: Most Christians believe in a literal flood/rearrangement of the Earth; during that time plates moved a lot further and faster than they do today, or at least up until today. I wonder if that might be part of what happens in the end times–plates that have been relatively calm for thousands of years start to reactivate?

Kurt – I agree with your line of thinking totally – I think that we are already seeing the beginning of it – we are having earthquakes and volcanoes erupting all over the world many that have been inactive for thousands of years – Remember what Gen 10:25 tells us happened in Peleg’s days the earth was divided up –

The process for the dividing up was that the sea floors dropped thousands and thousands of feet creating the vast and massive sea basins and continental shelves that were sheared off of the continents that we see around the world and in the process pushing up the mountains – really the bottom line is that it is simply a matter of the earths balance – The seismic activity that we see still today are continuing and ongoing re balancing of the earths plates – I dug pretty deep into creation verses evolution over the years and the geology we see around us today goes hand in hand with the Genesis account.

With all of the normal seismic activity that is a part of this we have added massive oil production around the world bleeding off huge amounts pf pressure and than in other areas we are do the reverse by injecting massive amounts of pressure into the shale oil productions again into the earth, than we can add the massive dams being built all over the world many on known earth quake fault lines. Coming to mind are many in the USA, the China three gorges, the Ataturk Dam in Turkey which may play a part in drying up the Euphrates ???

But until it all happens it is speculation to say the least

This is what we see happening in Congo and Africa today as we speak this very moment and also the Saudi lava fields just North of Mecca and along the entire Great Rift Fault line – Japan, Indonesia – all things must be fulfilled. It is exciting and almost scary both at the same time???
