Tehran: Protesters Storm 2 British Embassy Compounds, Wave Flags Symbolizing Martyrdom Chanting ‘Death to America, England, Israel’

This is not simply some spur-of-the-moment “protest”. Waving flags symbolizing martyrdom and calling for the death of America, England and Israel is one clear indication in my mind of precisely who gave the OK for this to happen.  The coming war with Iran may not begin with a sudden “shock-and-awe” campaign. In light of all recent developments, it may have already begun …

“TEHRAN – Iranian protesters stormed two British Embassy compounds in Tehran on Tuesday, smashing windows, hurling petrol bombs and burning the British flag during a rally to protest against sanctions imposed by Britain, live Iranian television showed.

The attacks followed the rapid approval by Iran’s Guardian Council of a parliamentary bill compelling the government to expel the British ambassador in retaliation for the sanctions, and warnings from a lawmaker that angry Iranians could storm the British embassy as they did to the US mission in 1979.

Several dozen protesters broke away from a crowd of a few hundred protesters outside the main embassy compound in downtown Tehran, scaled the embassy gates and went inside. Iranian security forces appeared to do little to stop them.

The semi-official Mehr news agency said protesters pulled down the British flag, burned it, and put up the Iranian flag.

Inside, the demonstrators threw stones and petrol bombs. One waved a framed picture of Queen Elizabeth, state TV showed.

The British Foreign Office said it was outraged by the incursion into embassy.

It was not clear if British diplomats had been caught up in the action, or had been harmed. Embassy staff fled protesters ‘by the back door,’ the Mehr news agency reported.

Demonstrators waved flags symbolizing martyrdom and held up portraits of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.” Read more.

Iranian protesters chant Ahmadinejad’s popular rallying cry – “The semi-official Fars news agency said security forces were trying to eject the protesters, who were a minority from a larger group staging an anti-UK demonstration outside the compound. The agency referred to the protesters as students who were chanting ‘Death to America’, ‘Death to England’ and ‘Death to Israel’ among other slogans. Live TV pictures showed several of the people on top of the entry gate to the embassy, waving Islamic flags… Al Jazeera’s Dorsa Jabbari, reporting from Tehran, said that the police and various ministries had prior knowledge of the protest, which was organised by the student arm of the Basij armed group. ‘Any such action of this could scale can never be independent in the Islamic Republic. These gatherings are always approved by higher officials,’ said Jabbari.” Read more.

Iranian news agency claimed protesters took British hostages – “Iran’s semi-official Mehr news agency said protesters took six British diplomatic staff hostage from an embassy compound in the north of the city but it withdrew the story from its website minutes later without giving any explanation. The attacks followed the rapid approval by Iran’s Guardian Council of a parliamentary bill compelling the government to expel the British ambassador in retaliation for the sanctions. A lawmaker had also warned Sunday that angry Iranians could storm the British Embassy as they did the U.S. mission in 1979.” Read more.

Is Britain plotting with Israel to attack Iran? – “Last February Britain’s then defence minister Liam Fox attended a dinner in Tel Aviv with a group described as senior Israelis. Alongside him sat Adam Werritty, a lobbyist whose ‘improper relations’ with the minister would lead eight months later to Fox’s hurried resignation. According to several reports in the British media, the Israelis in attendance at the dinner were representatives of the Mossad, Israel’s spy agency, while Fox and Werritty were accompanied by Matthew Gould, Britain’s ambassador to Israel. A former British diplomat has now claimed that the topic of discussion that evening was a secret plot to attack Iran.” Read more.
