Egypt: New President Morsi To Rethink Israel Peace Pact, Build Ties With Iran

Does crow taste good, Jimmy Carter? Was this one of the “many shared interests” you had in mind, Barack Obama? …

Update: Morsi denies interview …

AFP – “TEHRAN: Egypt’s Islamist president-elect, Mohamed Morsi, wants to ‘reconsider’ the peace deal with Israel and build ties with Iran to ‘create a strategic balance’ in the Middle East, according to an interview published by Iran’s Fars news agency on Monday.

The stated goals are certain to alarm Israel and its ally the United States as they adapt to the new direction Egypt will chart with Morsi at the helm.

They could also boost Iran’s influence in the Middle East at a time of heightened tensions between Tehran and the West.

‘We will reconsider the Camp David Accord’ that, in 1979, forged a peace deal between Egypt and Israel that has held for more than three decades, Morsi was quoted as telling a Fars reporter in Cairo on Sunday, just before his election triumph was announced.

He said the issue of Palestinian refugees returning to homes their families abandoned in the 1948 Arab-Israeli war and the 1967 Six-Day War ‘is very important’.

Morsi added though that ‘all these issues will be carried out through cabinet and governmental bodies because I will not take any decision on my own.’

Morsi also said he was ready to improve ties with Iran. The Islamic republic broke off diplomatic relations with Egypt in 1980, a year after Cairo signed the peace deal with the Jewish state.

‘Part of my agenda is the development of ties between Iran and Egypt that will create a strategic balance in the region,’ Morsi was quoted as saying.

Although Morsi resigned from Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood to take the top job, Israel is wary of his election, fearing his Islamist record could jeopardise the chilly peace it has long enjoyed with its huge neighbour.

Iran’s foreign ministry on Sunday welcomed Morsi’s triumph.” Read more.

Its [Israel] an occupying criminal enemy.’” Read more.

Flashback: Egypt: Muslim Brotherhood Vows to Never Speak or Meet With Israeli Officials – “The Muslim Brotherhood will not speak or meet with Israeli officials and its stance on Israel is not up for discussion, group spokesperson Mahmoud Ghezlan told London-based Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper. ‘It’s illogical to have dialogue, any dialogue, in light of the Israeli practices against the Arab peoples,’ the paper quoted him as saying in an article published Wednesday. Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesperson Yigal Palmor told Israeli radio that Israel has not ruled out talks.” Read more.

Dan Gilfry, “Suits me just fine! When the Nazi occupation of Palestine is dead and gone, we will finally have peace in the Middle East!”

Thank you for your comment Dan. What may be unbeknownst to you, however, is that the words you speak are prophetic. They echo a common Islamist sentiment often repeated by the Muslim world, a world which cannot and will not allow Israel to exist. In their mind they have been given a “divine mandate” to destroy the “Zionist enemy”, for in order to have true “peace and security” Israel must be a nation no more. Here are a few examples:

Ground Zero Mosque Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf: For Peace Israel Must Be Destroyed – “Imam Rauf stated that there will not be peace until Israel ceases to exist. He says that Israel is destined to collapse and ‘In a true peace, Israel will, in our lifetimes, become one more Arab country, with a Jewish minority.’ To this day, Rauf has not said that Israel has a right to exist and has chosen to work with those dedicated to the country’s elimination.” Source.

Former President of the Palestinian Authority, Yasser Arafat: Peace For Us Means Israel’s Destruction – “We shall never stop until we can go back home and Israel is destroyed… The goal of our struggle is the end of Israel, and there can be no compromises or mediations… the goal of this violence is the elimination of Zionism from Palestine in all its political, economic and military aspects… Peace for us means Israel’s destruction and nothing else.” Source.

The Palestinians Want Peace — Just Not With a Jewish State – “Two Israeli peace proposals, in 2000 and 2008 … met virtually all of the Palestinians’ demands for a sovereign state in the areas won by Israel in the 1967 war — in the West Bank, Gaza and even East Jerusalem. But Palestinian President Yasser Arafat rejected the first offer and Abbas ignored the second, for the very same reason their predecessors spurned the 1947 Partition Plan. Each time, accepting a Palestinian State meant accepting the Jewish State, a concession the Palestinians were unwilling to make. That is the issue. Not settlements. Not boundaries. The Palestinians, like most of their fellow Arabs and like many Muslims elsewhere, have never acknowledged that the Jews came home to Israel because they have never acknowledged that the Jews ever had a national home there. And they don’t even acknowledge that the Jews are a people. Do the Palestinians want peace? I have no doubt that they do. Just not with the Jewish state.” Source.

“For World Peace, Israel Must Be Destroyed” – “‘It is time, Brothers and Sisters, for Al Quds to be liberated. For Islam and people of the world who wish to pray there to the one God. And we say here today to you Israel, we see your crimes and we loathe your crimes. And to us your nation does not exist, because it is a criminal injustice against humanity. We want to see Lebanon, Jordan and Egypt go to the borders and stop this now. Liberate Al Quds! March to Al Quds!’ Typically, I’m very hesitant to employ Nazi analogies when characterizing anti-Israel ‘activists’, but when those who champion Palestinian rights explicitly seek Israel’s destruction – not a two state solution, but an end to the Jewish state’s very existence – the comparison is morally justifiable.” Source.

Iranian Leader: Israel’s Destruction Will Bring Peace – “Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Thursday the solution to the Middle East crisis was to destroy Israel, state-media reported… ‘the main solution is for the elimination of the Zionist regime …” Source.

Palestinian ‘Peace’ Plan: Destroy Israel – “… the Palestinian leadership does not want a separate Palestinian state, they want one Palestinian state on all the land of historic Israel, since resettling millions of Palestinians would mean the end to a Jewish majority. ‘We oppose any US peace plan which wants us to waive one of our most basic rights and that is the right of return for refugees,’ Fatah Central Committee Member Nabil Shaath said.” Source.

Iran Blames Israel For Iraq Insecurity – “‘The Zionist regime [Israel] basically opposes restoration of stability and security in Iraq. Therefore, the agents and movements affiliated to the regime are responsible for some of the current insecurity in Iraq,’ the Iranian Ambassador to Baghdad Hassan Kazemi-Qomi told ISNA on Sunday. ‘Israel is afraid of [seeing] a stable and secure Iraq,’ he added.” Source.

Turkey Accuses Israel of ‘Attempted Genocide’ and ‘State Terrorism’ in Gaza – “Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has accused Israel of attempting to commit genocide against Palestinians through ‘state terrorism’ while calling on Israelis who suffered in the Holocaust to stand against its administration. His comments came as Israel and militants in Gaza agreed to an Egyptian-brokered truce deal after 25 were killed by Israeli strikes. ‘I am repeating my calls to Israel to end its inhuman attacks against Gaza and the Palestinian territories,’ Erdoğan said yesterday…” Source.

Iran Spokesman Blames Israel for Causing Insecurity in Syria And Other Regional Countries – “Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast has said that Israel is trying to create insecurity in Syria in order to distract attention from other countries. ‘The Zionist regime will make every effort to create insecurity and instability in the countries of the region, especially the ones which have a serious role in strengthening resistance in the region, so it is making every effort to create insecurity in Syria,’ Ramin Mehmanparast said at his weekly news conference…” Source.

Turkey’s Erdoğan Blames Israel for Mideast Insecurity – “Turkey’s prime minister stepped up criticism of Israel on Wednesday and scoffed at remarks by Israel’s prime minister, a sign of escalating distrust between the Jewish state and its only ally in the Muslim world… Erdogan told reporters in Paris that he perceived Israel as the principal threat to Middle East peace…” Source.

“Peace and security” is precisely what they will all be saying when they’ve gathered themselves together against Israel shortly before Armageddon in anticipation of Israel’s coming demise, a nation they view as directly responsible for the Muslim world’s ills. But it is not Israel that will be destroyed. It will be them.

1 Thessalonians 5:2-6, “For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep, as [do] others; but let us watch and be sober.”

Zechariah 14:1-2a,3,12, “Behold, the day of the LORD is coming, And your spoil will be divided in your midst. For I will gather all the nations to battle against Jerusalem… Then the LORD will go forth And fight against those nations, As He fights in the day of battle… Their flesh shall dissolve while they stand on their feet, Their eyes shall dissolve in their sockets, And their tongues shall dissolve in their mouths.”
