You’ve seen it hundreds of times: a group of Warsaw Jews, laden down with their shabby belongings, herded along a street by German soldiers and that boy with a hat too big for him, the yellow star on his chest and his hands up.

Now it is time for anti-Semitism in one photograph. The Swedish photographer Paul Hansen won the 2012 World Press Photo award with a picture of two Palestinian children killed in an Israeli strike being carried to their funeral. The photo shows a group of men marching the dead bodies through a narrow street in Gaza. The little victims, a brother and sister, are wrapped in white cloth with only their faces showing.

This is the same World Press Photo organization which just closed down a show in Beirut over the presence of an Israeli photographer’s work. Such a brave and honest organization!

Unfortunately, Israel is [losing] the war of images against these liars who have set up an industry of blood libels through the lens.

The photograph of Tuvia Grossman in the year 2000 makes the point clear.

Tuvia was riding in a taxi in Jerusalem when a Palestinian mob stormed the car. He would have been lynched, if it was not for the Israeli police which responded to the attack.

The photo of the incident was printed in The New York Times with an AP caption which identified a bloodied Grossman as a Palestinian, while a baton-wielding policeman loomed over him. ‘An Israeli policeman and a Palestinian on the Temple Mount’, the headline blared..

The photo inspired one of the largest hate campaigns in recent memory.

Then it was the turn of Mohammed al Dura. French journalism should be marked by shame for a century for this Goebbels-like lie which criminalized the Jews in front of global public opinion.

How can we forget the photoshopped images of a bomb exploding in Beirut published by Reuters during the Second Lebanon War? A woman, whose snapshot made the headlines as a symbol that surfaced among the ruins, was then rephotographed on a different place, while similar photos were orchestrated in an obtrusive manner in order to give the impression that Read more…

Libya: Foreigners Arrested In Benghazi On Suspicion Of Being Missionaries, Spreading Christianity

By Hadeel Al-Shalchi – “BENGHAZI, Libya (Reuters) – Four foreigners have been arrested in the eastern Libyan city of Benghazi on suspicion of being Christian missionaries and printing books about Christianity, a security official said on Saturday.

‘They were arrested on Tuesday at a publishing house where they were printing thousands of books that called for conversion to Christianity,’ security official Hussein Bin Hmeid said.

‘Proselytizing is forbidden in Libya. We are a 100 percent Muslim country and this kind of action affects our national security.’

Hmeid said the government-affiliated security apparatus called the Preventative Security, for which he is a spokesman, had arrested an Egyptian, a South African, a Korean and a Swede who was travelling on a U.S. passport.

‘We are still holding interrogations and will hand them over to the Libyan intelligence authorities in a couple of days,’ Hmeid said, without giving further details.

The Preventative Security apparatus is a parallel security body created during the 2011 war that ousted Muammar Gaddafi and made up of several rebel brigades which fought in the conflict.

Libya’s central government has yet to impose its authority on a myriad of armed groups who have yet to lay down their arms, and with skeletal national security forces, often relies on them for security.” Source – Yahoo! News.

This new offensive is not only a military campaign for jihad and for the creation of Islamic states ruled by sharia law; rather it is explicitly for the elimination of the non-Islamist past — an ideological offensive to remove the memories, historical artifacts, monuments, buildings, or any other evidence of the history and contribution of Judaism, Christianity, and even the moderate forms of Islam to civilization. This offensive is potentially more dangerous than any violence or vandalism or acts of revenge directed against supposed enemies. Part of it is the denial or minimizing of the Holocaust.

It is now well-understood that since the establishment of the State of Israel in May 1948, Islamist forces and groups, as well as the Palestinian extremists, have not only sought to eliminate it by military methods — by wars and terrorism — but also asserted that Jews have no historic association with the land and therefore that the State is illegitimate. They even ignore or deny the visible evidence of Jewish history offered by the many physical sites in the area. Instead, a fallacious Palestinian narrative has been created declaring that the disputed area, from Jordan to the Mediterranean Sea and embracing Jerusalem, Acre, Haifa, Jericho, Gaza, Galilee, Hebron, and Tiberias, is not Jewish, but rather completely Arab by associations of history and identity.

Though their specific activity varies from country to country, in recent years Islamist leaders have emphasized this argument. Iranian President Ahmadinejad has proclaimed that most Jews have no roots in Palestine and, in what may be considered incitement to genocide, argued that the ‘Zionist regime’ as he refers to Israel is on its way to annihilation. In similar frame of mind, Mohamed Morsi, in September 2010, before he became President of Egypt, declared that the Zionists, ‘occupiers of the land of Israel … these blood suckers, these war mongers, the descendants of apes and pigs … must be driven out of our countries[.]’ For Ahmadinejad and Morsi, Jewish history in the area of Palestine never existed.

Recent events in a number of countries have made clear that Islamist extremists have not confined their ambition to obliterate the history of the Jewish people in Israel. Now they are applying it to all countries in which they have or seek to have some authority.

California: Meteor Streaks Across Bay Area Skies, ‘It Has Certainly Been A Strange 24 Hours’

Mercury News – “It may not have been as spectacular as the space rock that streaked across the skies above Russia late Thursday, but the Bay Area’s close encounter with a meteor Friday night was drawing its own attention on social networks.

Comments on Twitter indicated the object that flashed across the horizon around 7:45 p.m. was blue in color and visible throughout the Bay Area and large areas of the West Coast, with at least one reported sighting in Washington state.

Amateur video footage broadcast on KTVU-2 showed a bright streak lasting approximately five seconds that appeared to head downward. Some viewers described it as a firework in the night sky.

One commenter on Twitter, who said they saw the meteor while driving in a car in Cupertino, said the object appeared to be headed west.

Scanner traffic at the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office indicated that they were aware of the event, but a dispatcher said they had not received any emergency calls related to it.

Gerald McKeegan, an astronomer with the Chabot Space and Science Center in Oakland, was at the center Friday evening for its weekend stargazing sessions with free access to the center’s large telescopes, but he said they did not spot the meteor there.

He said that the center received phone calls from people who reported seeing the meteor. Based on their reports, McKeegan said it may have been what astronomers call a ‘sporadic meteor,’ an event that can happen several times a day but most of the time happens over the ocean, away from human eyes, and brings as much as 15,000 tons of space debris to Earth each year.

Meteors, hunks of rock and metal from space that fall to Earth, burn up as they go through the atmosphere, which is what apparently caused Friday night’s bright flash of light, McKeegan said.” Read more.

By BosNewsLife – “Dozens of Ethiopian Christians, mostly women, have been detained in Saudi Arabia after attending a worship service in a private home, BosNewsLife learned Wednesday, February 13.

The Christians – 46 women and six men including three church leaders – were arrested last Friday, February 8, said the well-informed Religious Liberty Commission of the World Evangelical Alliance, or ‘WEA-RLC’, which represents evangelical believers worldwide.

It said the three church leaders – two of them women – were produced in an Islamic court in the eastern city of Dammam on charges of converting Muslims to Christianity.

Authorities were expected to release two of the Ethiopian Christians who have residential permits, but the others were due to be deported, Christians said.

‘We call on Saudi authorities to treat all those arrested with dignity, and release them immediately as there is apparently no evidence for any offense against them,’ said Godfrey Yogarajah, WEA-RLC’s executive director.

MORE INCIDENTS

‘Arrest of believers for peacefully gathering for worship goes against the spirit of Saudi Arabia’s promotion of inter-religious dialogue in international fora,’ he added.

This isn’t an isolated incident in the Islamic kingdom. In December 2011, Saudi authorities detained 35 Ethiopian Christians, 29 of them women, for ‘illicit mingling,’ after security forces arrested them raiding a private prayer gathering in the eastern city of Jeddah, Christians said at the time.

Rights activists believe the women were subjected to arbitrary body cavity searches while in custody.” Read more.

AsiaNews – “A mob, incited by local Salafi fringe, threw stones and set fire to the church of St. Georgas in the village of Sarsena, Tamiya District, in the Egyptian province of Fayoum, about 103 km south-west of Cairo. According to sources of the Assyrian International News Agency (Aina), the attack took place yesterday evening and caused damage, particularly to the dome of the place of Christian worship. The attack destroyed the towering cross on top of the building, and many of the icons and sacred images inside.

The local Salafist fringe lead the attack against the Copts, pitting the Muslims against the community, branding the church as ‘illegal’, because it is close to an area inhabited by Muslims and ‘for this reason has to be removed.’ They are imposing the demolition of the building and have prevented the priest, Father Domadios from entering. Some witnesses reported that the scene was also attended by police, who did nothing to prevent the violence.

The church of St. Georgas was built in the mid-80s and is a point of encounter and prayer for 200 Coptic families. About three months ago, some Muslims made a hole in the wall, to ‘monitor’ the activities of Christians. Yesterday the priest’s attempts at mediation proved worthless. He was joined by the local police chief, who arrived on site to try to find an agreement between the parties.

Firm in their positions, hundreds of Islamic extremists – in front of the police – started throwing stones at the church. The attackers injured – not seriously – some Copts and Father Domadios, who managed to flee to safety with the help of a Muslim family aboard their car.” Source – AsiaNews.

Tennessee: Mysterious Shaking Puzzles Experts In Morristown

Gannett News Service – “Morristown, TN– Late Tuesday afternoon dozens of concerned neighbors called Hamblen County 911 to report the earth shaking and the sound of a large blast.

At first the the US Geological Survey reported there was no earthquake in the area.

That prompted local emergency management officials to spend Wednesday looking at other options.

10News spoke with TDEC (Tennessee Department of Environmental Conservation) who ruled out fracking or quarry activity.

Then, we checked with the University of Memphis Center for Earthquake Research and Information, sponsored by the USGS.

Geologist Gary Patterson went and pulled the records from sensors on Tuesday and says he could see activity consistent with an earthquake or quarry blasting.

Emergency Managment Agency Director Chris Bell says there was no licensed blasting in the Hamblen County area on Tuesday.

10News also confirmed with the area’s only quarry, Vulcan Materials, that no blasting happened yesterday.

Patterson says the activity shows up over a large area with sensors reporting vibrations in Copper Ridge, Avondale Springs, Green Top, and Lonesome, VA.

He says the USGS doesn’t have a lot of sensors in that area which may have resulted in the automated system’s failure to report the activity.

Patterson says they need more time to investigate, but either an earthquake or quarry blasting could solve the ‘Morristown Mystery.'” Source – Digtriad.

Algerian Court Fines Christian For Sharing His Faith

Persecution.org – “International Christian Concern (ICC) has learned that a Christian was given a hefty fine by an appellate court in Tindouf, Algeria yesterday for proselytizing. The verdict, viewed by advocates as an ‘attack’ on religious freedom, raises concerns about the trial of a second Christian in Oran who may face five years in prison on similar charges.

Mohamed Ibaouène, a Christian convert from Islam, was fined 100,000 Algerian dinars (US $1,280) on Feb. 13 for sharing his Christian faith with a former colleague. Abdelkrim Mansouri, a machine operator at the company where Ibaouène held a management position, had filed a complaint against Ibaouène with the National Gendarmerie in Tindouf in February 2012 for allegedly pressuring him to ‘abandon’ Islam. Months later, Ibaouène was sentenced in absentia by a court in Tigzirt to one year in prison and fined 50,000 dinars for the offense on July 4.

‘I [had] never been summoned by the police or any other authority – I [had] never been investigated by the police or gendarmerie,’ Ibaouene told Morning Star News.

Ibaouène denied the charges, claiming that it was, in fact, Mansouri who had pressured him to renounce Christianity. After appealing the verdict, an appellate court in Tindouf ruled on Feb. 13 that the prison sentence would be overturned, but the fine would be increased. Ibaouène was convicted under Article 11 of Law 03/2006, which mandates a fine up to one million dinars to anyone who ‘incites, constrains, or utilizes means of seduction tending to convert a Muslim to another religion.’

‘I’m shocked and very disappointed by this verdict,’ Mohamed Benbelkacem, Ibaouène’s lawyer, told ICC. ‘The verdict had no place because there was absolutely no evidence against my client. The judge was presumably pressured by his superiors, which led to the decision to maintain the fine and cancel the prison term. Otherwise, my client would have been acquitted.’

‘Ibaouène’s ruling is an attack on freedom,’ said Mustapha Krim, the President of the Protestant Church of Algeria (EPA). ‘It is clear that the verdict was unfair and the EPA intends to follow-up on the case. As long as the 2006 law exists, there will always be people who wrongly accuse Christians.'” Read more.

Alerta Digital (Translated) – “Swedish police are investigating a case of animal abuse after a photo published on the net where four men appeared with the severed head of a cat. One held the animal’s head while another was carrying a knife and the cat’s body.

After leaving the photo on the net, new images have been revealed where you can see how the cat is skinned by a man with a large knife and standing proudly with the cat’s head.

Östergötland police were investigating the case, but it finally went to Nykoping. According to a police report, the man with the cat’s head has been identified as a citizen of Vagnhärad, Sweden. The only one identified is the prime suspect of animal cruelty because the picture was published.

Following the identification, the portal has been exposed to reveal the identity of the four men involved through their social profiles on Facebook.

According to the website, who holds the animal’s head by the name of Hamza Tchaki, of Tunisian origin. At his side, holding the knife appears Youssef Ben Ali, while the left is Kuorbam Uomama with a baseball cap. Finally, the man who is at the bottom of the photo is Firas Mani. They are all Tunisian govern.

Cruelty Toward Animals Is A Good Indicator Of Future Cruelty Toward People – “According to a 2001-2004 study by the Chicago Police Department, as reported by The Humane Society, ‘Of those arrested for animal crimes, 65 percent had been arrested for battery against another person.’ 65 percent is an overwhelming majority and, surprisingly or not, this statistic is not one of a kind. The Humane Society lists many more documented and researched cases that share similar figures. For example, ‘of 36 convicted multiple murderers … 46 percent admitted committing acts of animal torture as adolescents’ or ‘of seven school shootings that took place across the country between 1997 and 2001, all involved boys who had previously committed acts of animal cruelty.’ All of these statistics echo a similar morbid message: cruelty toward animals is a good indicator of future cruelty toward people.” Read more.

Brightly burning rocks could be seen for miles as they crashed at around 9.20am local time and one bystander described it ‘like a scene from the Armageddon movie.’

The meteorite is believed to have landed in a lake near Chebarkul, a town in the neighbouring Chelyabinsk region.

The city of Chelyabinsk, 900 miles east of Moscow and close to the Kazakhstan border, took the brunt of the super sonic impact…

The Russian Ministry of Emergencies says 950 people have been injured, 82 of them are children and two are in intensive care.

Many of the injured had bloodied faces and one child’s back was seen covered in blood.

Tim O’Brien, associate director of the University of Manchester’s Jodrell Bank Observatory, said the injuries were caused when the meteor created a sonic boom.

‘This reasonably large chunk of rock was moving faster than the speed of sound, maybe 20,000 miles per hour. It made a sonic boom in the atmosphere, and that hit buildings and shattered windows. That is what seems to have caused the injuries,’ he explained.” Read more.

Indonesia: Islamists Attack Christian Church, Police Jail Church Minister

By Rebecca Lake, Sandra Siagian & Abdul Qowi Bastian, Jakarta Globe – “The wife of a church minister who was jailed two weeks ago for allegedly conducting a service without a permit also faces arrest for defying an order from local authorities to stop holding services at a church in Sumedang, West Java.

Minister Bernhard Maukar and his wife, Corry, were holding a service at their Pentecostal church (GPdI) in Mekargalih village, Jatinangor subdistrict, on Jan. 27, when it was attacked by members of the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI), who claimed that the church did not have a valid permit to operate.

CCTV footage obtained by the Jakarta Globe shows details of the attack where a gang of about 50 members from the hard-line organization scaled the gates of the religious facility, caused havoc and destruction within the place of worship and physically threatened the minister — at one point using Bernhard’s necktie to strangle him.

Bernhard was arrested by officials from the Sumedang Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) two days later for continuing to hold services without a valid permit, which breaks a 2005 local government law.

The minister is currently serving a three-month sentence at the Sumedang prison as he could not pay the Rp 25 million ($2,600) fine ordered by the district court.

Corry said this is the third major act of violence the FPI has inflicted upon them in the past two years.

The grandmother explained that the latest attack on the church, which has been running for 26 years, had significantly traumatized the 400-member congregation, many of whom are now too afraid to return.” Read more.
