By Aziz Alwan, Bloomberg – “Islamic State came closer to gaining full control of Iraq’s Anbar province after it seized a military base to the west of Baghdad that had been one of the government’s few remaining outposts there.

Militants took the base, located near the town of Hit and a major highway from Baghdad to the Syrian border, after heavy fighting with soldiers, according to Ahmed al-Dulaimi, a Sunni tribal leader. Its capture increases the threat to Ramadi, Anbar’s capital, and to Iraq’s second-largest dam at Haditha.

The insurgent group has declared a caliphate that stretches across much of northern Syria and Iraq, prompting the U.S. to launch a bombing campaign backed by European and Arab allies to halt the advance. The group’s recent gains to the west of Baghdad have sparked concern it’s preparing to attack the capital.

Islamic State captured the Anbar towns of Hit and Kubaisa last week, and its fighters are battling Iraqi forces in Abu Ghraib, 18 miles (29 kilometers) from Baghdad’s fortified Green Zone that houses embassies and government offices.

The top U.S. military officer said yesterday that Islamic State is moving into areas populated by fellow Sunnis near the capital. ‘I have no doubt there will be days when they use indirect fire into Baghdad,’ Joint Chiefs Chairman General Martin Dempsey said in an interview with ABC’s ‘This Week.’ Indirect fire can refer to use of mortars or artillery.

Dempsey also said that the U.S. recently had to call in Apache attack helicopters to secure the Baghdad airport and prevent Iraqi forces from being overrun, without specifying when it happened. While an outright assault on the capital is unlikely, strikes from a distance could heighten the sense of insecurity there, he said.” Read more.

Islamic State Forces 180,000 To Flee In Iraq – “Fighting in Iraq’s western Anbar province has forced up to 180,000 people to flee since the city of Hit fell to Islamic State earlier this month, the United Nations said on Monday. Islamic State fighters extended that advance by overrunning a military base that the Iraqi army had abandoned 8 km (5 miles) west of Hit earlier on Monday, according to an army officer and members of a government-backed Sunni militia. Islamic State has been on the offensive in the desert province of Anbar, bordering Syria, in recent weeks, taking the town of Hit on Oct. 2 and nearby Kubaisa on Oct. 4. That has raised concerns in the West because it is close to Baghdad and demonstrates the group’s reach …” Read more.

By Ari Yashar, INN – “The brutal jihadist Islamic State (ISIS) terror group that has seized large portions of Iraq and Syria in recent months released the fourth edition of its English-language digital magazine ‘Dabiq’ on Sunday, in which it encourages taking women as sex slaves as part of Islam.

In the article in question from the digital publication, entitled ‘The revival (of) slavery before the Hour’ – a reference to Judgment Day – the group outright calls for the sexual enslavement of non-Muslim women, particularly from the Kurdish Yazidi ethnic minority.

‘One should remember that enslaving the families of the kuffar – the infidels – and taking their women as concubines is a firmly established aspect of the Shariah, or Islamic law,’ wrote ISIS in the article, reports CNN.

Harrowing reports have surfaced of the endless rape and torture being imposed on Yazidi women and girls, with many opting for mass-suicide after the brutalities.

The article comes out in time for the release of a Human Rights Watch (HRW) report on ISIS crimes against the Yazidis in Iraq, which is based on interviewwith 76 displaced persons.

‘The Islamic State’s litany of horrific crimes against the Yazidis in Iraq only keeps growing,’ said HRW special adviser Fred Abrahams. ‘We heard shocking stories of forced religious conversions, forced marriage, and even sexual assault and slavery – and some of the victims were children.'” Read more.

By Nick Hallett, Breitbart – “Terrified Kobane residents have spoken of the horror inflicted on them by jihadist fighters belonging to the self-proclaimed Islamic State. Some of the atrocities include beheadings, amputations, eye gouging and the complete destruction of livestock, with refugees now flooding across the border to seek help in Turkey.

One farmer, Ahmed Bakki, said that while everyone fled as ISIS advanced, his cousin decided to stay behind. He told the Daily Mail that when he phoned his cousin a jihadist answered and said: ‘We’ve got his head, and we’re taking it to Jarabulus [an IS stronghold].’

Mr Bakki spoke of more beheadings by the group: ‘An English teacher in our village tried to reason with them, but they just called him a kaffir [non-believer] and tied him to their car and dragged him away. We heard they beheaded him later.

‘My neighbour was beheaded because they said he was ‘delivering vegetables to the kaffir’. They burned his farm, livestock, even his bees – they destroyed everything.’

Mr Bakki identified the nationalities of some of the fighters involved and, worryingly for the British government, some of them appear to be from the UK. ‘They are Chechen, they are English, they are from all over Europe. We know because we can hear their accents,’ he said.

Another refugee, a 13-year-old schoolboy called Dillyar, spoke of witnessing the brutal murder of his cousin. ‘They pushed him to the ground and sawed his head off, shouting ‘Allahu Akbar’. I see it in my dreams every night and every morning I wake up and remember everything.’

Many spoke of headless corpses now littering the streets of Kobane, with other townsfolk having their eyes gouged out.

Amin Fajar said: ‘I have seen tens, maybe hundreds, of bodies with their heads cut off. Others with just their hands or legs missing.

‘I have seen faces with their eyes or tongues cut out – I can never forget it for as long as I live. They put the heads on display to scare us all.’

In the most recent edition of their propaganda magazine Dabiq, Islamic State jihadists try to justify their brutal behaviour, saying it is within Sharia law.” Read more.

In order to spread Islam for the cause of “Allah.” According to Barack Obama, of course, “No religion condones the killing of innocents.” But what Obama doesn’t let you in on is the fact that there’s no such thing as innocent non-Muslims in Islam. A non-Muslim, by definition, has renounced Islam and is therefore guilty of rejecting “Allah” and his malevolent messenger of murder, mayhem and misery …

By Mark Schiebs, The Australian – “ISLAMIC State has named Australia as one of five main targets for terrorist attacks, calling for ‘stab the crusader’ to be a ‘battle cry’ for its supporters around the world.

The group released the latest edition of Dabiq — its official magazine — early this morning, which featured calls for worldwide action against the ‘crusaders’, as it has dubbed the US-led coalition committed to tackling Islamic State through military action.

The release of the magazine followed last month’s speech by the group’s official spokesman, Abu Muhammad al-Adnani, in which the first public calls for attacks in specific countries were made.

All terrorist attacks should clearly be attributable to ‘patrons’ of Islamic State so they cannot be described by media as ‘random killings’, the new article said.

‘It is very important that attacks take place in every country that has entered into the alliance against the Islamic State, especially the US, UK, France, Australia and Germany,’ an article in the magazine said.

‘Every Muslim should get out of his house, find a crusader, and kill him.

‘It is important that the killing becomes attributed to patrons of the Islamic State who have obeyed its leadership … otherwise, crusader media makes such attacks appear to be random killings.’

The article contained warnings not to include too many people in the planning of the attack, and to not over-analyse plans to the point they are aborted.” Read more.

Islamic State Strategy: Kindness One Day, Terror The Next – “The men in the video appear tense as the conversion ceremony begins. They are Yazidis, followers of an ancient religion that originates in northern Iraq. But here, they are seen converting to Islam under the watchful eye of armed Islamic State militants.

After the ceremony the film cuts to a new scene where the men stand together in a group. The converts and the militants call on Yazidis who’ve fled their homes in the region of Sinjar to return to be ‘protected by the Islamic State.’ Militants dressed in dishdashas, long white robes, welcome the Yazidi men as ‘brothers.’

These men were likely spared death in exchange for their conversion. Hundreds of other Yazidis have been systematically executed in villages across Sinjar since early August, including 600 in the village of Kocho alone.

Later in the video, a man with a microphone interviews a militant with the Islamic State, also known as ISIL or ISIS.

‘Various politicized media outlets published false reports that you had killed the Yazidis, and forced them to convert to Islam, and violated the honor of their women. How do you respond to these reports?’ he asks in Arabic.

‘This is the opposite of what really happened,’ the fighter responds. ‘The Islamic State does its utmost for the repentance of any infidel — whether Yazidi, Crusader (Christian), or Jewish. We have been fighting for no other reason than to extract people from their ‘kufr’ (‘unbelief’) and to usher them into the fold of Islam.’

The world is now familiar with the most grisly of Islamic State propaganda. The videos that have made international headlines and grabbed viewers on YouTube and Twitter show massacres, executions and beheadings. These shows of uncompromising violence are meant to deter anyone who may oppose the group, and so far, they’ve succeeded …” Read more.

In other words, he began taking the teachings of the “kill-and-be-killed” Qur’an seriously. And, despite what the likes of John Kerry and David Cameron would have you believe, the Qur’an actually does have everything to do with Islam …

In Kosovo it used to be the case that families were culturally Muslim, but rarely devout believers. Recently though some young people have become radicalised. Up to 200 are thought to be fighting in Syria and Iraq causing heartbreak for those left behind.

“In these pictures of him as a little boy, his eyes are so innocent.”

Arieta is leafing through a pile of photos of her younger brother, Blerim Heta. She does this every day, and cries a little.

“My brother had a wonderful life. He had money. He didn’t have a Mercedes, he had an Opel, but we were a happy family. And I can’t understand why he did that.”

Blerim was 24 when he left Kosovo on 7 August 2013, without a word to his family. Two days later Arieta got a text – he said he was in Turkey. She didn’t worry, because after becoming a devout Muslim, he often travelled to hear different imams preach. Then she called his number and a message flashed up on her screen – “Welcome to Syria.”

When Arieta talked to Blerim on Skype, he denied he was in Syria – he insisted he was in Turkey, learning Arabic and looking for a wife who wore the hijab. Arieta wanted to believe him, but then her mother found a postcard Blerim had written and left in his bedroom.

“It was a goodbye postcard. He had written that he was on a journey and that he wouldn’t come back,” Arieta says.

Like many Kosovans, her family identifies culturally as Muslim, but was never religious. Then Blerim started going regularly to the mosque. He began travelling to Macedonia across the border, and to mosques in other Kosovan towns….

In his last three months in Kosovo, Blerim Heta changed. He grew a beard. He wore his trousers shorter, like some Muslim men in the Middle East. And he watched a lot of YouTube videos of imams preaching. Then he was gone.

‘He wore his trousers shorter, like some Muslim men in the Middle East.’ This is not confined to Muslim men in the Middle East. It is true of many devout Muslim men everywhere, because a hadith has Muhammad saying, ‘The part of an Izar which hangs below the ankles is in the Fire’ (Bukhari 7.72.678)

Eventually, on Skype, Blerim Heta confessed to Arieta that he was, indeed, in Syria.

“He told me he’s fighting for his religion and that other people are bad. He said he wanted to die for Allah, and that it would be a great pleasure for him. I started to cry and scream and say to him what kind of religion do you have to kill people, to kill yourself? And he said if you speak to me like that, I will never call you again.”

‘I started to cry and scream and say to him what kind of religion do you have to kill people, to kill yourself?’ This kind: ‘Indeed, Allah has purchased from the believers their lives and their properties [in exchange] for that they will have Paradise. They fight in the cause of Allah, so they kill and are killed.’ (Qur’an 9:111)

Arieta did not tell the family that Blerim was in Syria – she did not want to alarm them, and part of her still believed he would come home….

The 10-year-old boy is named by the Islamists as Abu Ubaidah. A Twitter account run by Isil sympathisers said on October 9 that he was killed, alongside his father, by an American air strike two weeks ago.

US aircraft have been carrying out air strikes across Iraq and northern Syria, and the account did not say where he was killed.

But the disturbing series of photos posted by the Isil account show a smiling boy wearing a woollen hat and combat fatigues, posing frequently with guns.

In one image the machine gun is almost bigger than he is – standing in the hallway of a house, he beams to the camera as he strikes a pose with the gun.

In another, he is standing beside a truck which has been turned into an improvised tank, with a metal sheet covering the windscreen.
Isil’s recruitment of child soldiers has been long-known.

By Richard Esposito, NBC News – “Intelligence officials tell NBC News that Canadian authorities have heard would-be terrorists discussing potential ISIS-inspired ‘knife and gun’ attacks against U.S. and Canadian targets inside Canada.

While intelligence officials say some of the discussions raise the possibility of attacks on U.S. citizens and other U.S. and Western targets in Canada, they have not picked up talk of anyone crossing the border into the U.S. to stage attacks. They also stressed that the possible attacks were at the ‘aspirational’ stage.

Both U.S. and Canadian officials fear the beheading of an innocent person in a public place, or the slashing of citizens on a crowded street until police arrive to shoot and ‘martyr’ the terrorists.

In a statement, the press secretary for Canada’s Minister of Public Safety told NBC News, ‘While I cannot comment on operational matters of national security, I can say that security agencies are constantly evaluating the terrorist threat and taking action to protect Canadians.’
