Hamas political bureau official, Mohammad Nazzal, seems to believe that Israel does not have the will to “occupy” Gaza long enough to see Hamas fully defeated, disarmed and permanently displaced. Hamas Official: “First of all, the Hamas movement will never surrender its weapons. This is non-negotiable. Secondly, Hamas leaders will not leave (Gaza). The slogan of Hamas’s leaders is: ‘We will gain either victory or martyrdom.'”

Al-Mashhad TV Host: “But Netanyahu said that he would not withdraw from Gaza, unless Hamas is disarmed. What you are saying means that at least part of Gaza will remain occupied.”

Hamas Official: “In any case, as you know, no occupation can last for a long time. The Americans came to Afghanistan and stayed there for 20 years. They said that they would not leave unless the Taliban is finished. What eventually happened was that the Americans signed a withdrawal agreement with the Taliban, left Afghanistan, and the Taliban took over. So if they pin their hopes on Hamas and its leaders leaving the Gaza Strip, they are deluding themselves…”
