Egyptian Sheikh: Chevrolet’s Logo Resembles Christian Cross, Issues Fatwa Forbidding Muslims from Buying or Driving Chevys

01/26/2012 5 comments

If the “Cross of Chevrolet” had anything to do with Christianity, then General Motors wouldn’t have needed to be saved by the Federal Government.  After all, the Cross is the only thing that can bail us out.  No word yet on whether or not a fatwa will be issued against Mercedes-Benz for being pro-Trinitarian. In the meantime, maybe the Sheikh will recommend a Lamborghini for all Muslims. He obviously has no problem with that logo

By Angie Nassar – “A Salafi sheikh in Egypt has reportedly issued a fatwa that buying [or driving] a Chevrolet vehicle is haram because the American brand’s logo looks like the Christian cross.

In the video below, prominent Egyptian TV presenter Amr Adeeb takes the sheikh’s joke-of-a-fatwa to task, saying, ‘We’ve reached a really strange place with this.’

‘The car’s been around [for a century] and only now did you notice there’s a cross on the car?’

Adeeb also notes that the car is not used or presented as a form of religious iconography: ‘Do we hold mass for it? Do we pray for it?’ And his guest chimes in with a comment about the self-centered nature of the fatwa itself: ‘As if the people who came up with the logo were thinking that we want to put this special logo on the car just to piss us [Muslims] off?’

The TV presenter concludes, ‘With all of the problems in Egypt, you’re concerned about the cross?… We’re calling for unity [in the country] and then you come up with [fatwas] like this?’

By the way, there’s actually a few theories going around about the symbolism behind the Chevrolet logo. One common story is that General Motors co-founder William C. Durant copied the design off some wallpaper he saw in a Parisian Hotel. But historian Ken Kaufmann says the logo is actually based on iconography used by the Southern Compressed Coal Company ad for its ‘Coalettes’ logo.

Either way, it’s usually referred to as a bowtie emblem, of which there are many examples in various corporate logos.

Knowledge is power, people. And I’m too annoyed to comment further.” Source – NOW Blog.

Flashback: Somalia: Islamist Group Bans Samosas After Deciding They’re Too ‘Christian’ Because … – “Apparently triangles are not halal in Somalia.  These exceptionally deep-thinking Islamists would rather see children starve to death than see them eat a three-sided snack food.  It might remind somebody of the Trinity.  Finally, I understand my addiction to Doritos.  And thank goodness it never snows in Somalia, otherwise Jack Handey bin Laden would have to issue a fatwa against Jack Frost bin Chillin, and we’d never enjoy a White Christmas ever again …” Read more.

British Columbia: Rumbling and Shaking on Vancouver Island Mystifies Residents, Seismologists

01/26/2012 Leave a comment

By Jeff Bell – “Unusual shaking and rumbling reported around the capital region had people thinking ‘earthquake’ — but, rest assured, there was no seismic event.

Natural Resources Canada responded to public concerns by posting an explanation on its website, saying what was felt could have come from an ‘atmospheric source’, likely sound waves travelling over a long distance.

Taimi Mulder, a seismologist at the Pacific Geoscience Centre in North Saanich, said it received several calls from the public reporting rumbling at about 10:45 a.m. and 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Soundwaves that could create such an event have several possible sources, Mulder said. ‘We just know it wasn’t an earthquake. Jets going at supersonic speed can cause it, a volcano erupting could cause it — anything that puts a loud noise into the atmosphere and generates a soundwave through the atmosphere will do that. It often ends up being the military.’

Another possible explanation is that it was a ‘whistler’, in which a thunderstorm in one hemisphere travels via magnetic-field lines to the opposite hemisphere.” Source – Times Colonist.

Palestinians: Peace Negotiations With Israel Have Ended

01/25/2012 1 comment

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has already made it quite clear that he and the Palestinian people would never recognize the Jewish State of Israel. History itself has made it clear time and time again that ‘peace’ in the Palestinian mind is nothing more than a facade and a deliberate attempt to systematically destroy Israel altogether, not an effort to live side-by-side in peace and security with their Jewish neighbors. How peace negotiations with an invented Palestinian people can come to an end when they have never truly started to begin with is beyond me …

By Barak Ravid – “The time frame that the Palestinians have allowed for talks with Israel in Amman under Jordanian auspices expires on Thursday. According to diplomatic sources associated with the Middle East Quartet – the United States, United Nations, European Union and Russia – last-minute efforts are underway to head off the talks’ collapse, but the prospects seem slim.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s representative to the Amman talks, Isaac Molho, met on Wednesday in the Jordanian capital for a fifth time with the head of the Palestinian negotiating team Saeb Erekat – but at this point no formula has been reached that would enable the talks to continue. Erekat made it clear that because Israel has not presented its position on the issue of borders with a Palestinian state, from the Palestinians’ standpoint, the talks have ended.

After Wednesday’s meeting, Jordanian Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh, under whose auspices the five rounds of discussions have taken place, issued a statement in which he did his best to avoid proclaiming the talks a failure. He said the results of the discussions are being evaluated and that consultations would be undertaken with Israel, the Palestinians and members of the Quartet over a future course.

Before the latest Molho-Erekat meeting, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas met in Amman with Jordanian King Abdullah and told the monarch from his standpoint talks with Israel had run their course without results. Abbas said that Israel had refused to recognize the borders of a Palestinian state, but if there was a change there was nothing preventing a return to the negotiating table.

Abbas said he would consult with Arab allies next week to figure out how to proceed. He is under pressure to extend the Jordanian-mediated exploratory talks, which the international community hopes will lead to a resumption of long-stalled formal negotiations on establishing a Palestinian state.” Read more.

Arab ‘Street Artists’ Call for Third Intifada – “Arab street artists in Jerusalem are agitating for a third Intifada – or violent uprising – against Israel. According the Palestinian Authority affiliated Maan News Agency, the artists stenciled “symbols of resistance” in Jerusalem overnight on Monday in a campaign they hope will spur the city’s Arabs to action. ‘One image at a time we are aiming to break the fear and lack of motivation of our Palestinian people and call them to rise,’ the activists said in a statement.” Read more.

France: French Senators Pass Law Criminalizing Armenian Genocide Denial, Turkey Rages at ‘Satan Sarkozy’ and Threatens Retaliation

01/24/2012 Leave a comment

The French want to acknowledge the history of Turkey’s genocide of an estimated 1.5 million Armenian Christians. The Turks would rather rewrite it. You know what they say about those who ignore history …

By Kim Willsher – “French senators have approved legislation making it a crime to deny that the mass killing of Armenians by Ottoman Turks nearly a century ago constitutes genocide.

The law, which has already been passed by members of the Assemblée Nationale, the lower house, has sparked a major diplomatic row between France and Turkey, which has threatened ‘permanent consequences’.

Immediately after the Sénat vote on Monday night, Turkish justice minister Sadullah Ergin described it as a ‘total lack of respect’ and a ‘great injustice’ towards his country. Ankara had already threatened retaliation if the bill was passed.

After French MPs approved the bill in December, Turkey recalled its ambassador, cancelled all economic and political meetings, and halted military cooperation with France.

Ahmet Davutoglu, Turkey’s foreign minister, had earlier warned of further measures: ‘If every EU (European Union) parliament implements decisions reflecting its own view of history a new inquisition period will begin in Europe.’

Supporters of the bill claim 1.5 million Armenians were slaughtered in Turkey under the Ottoman authorities during the first world war in a deliberate policy that constitutes genocide.” Read more.

Turkey rages at ‘Satan Sarkozy’ over ‘racist’ French bill criminalizing genocide denial – “Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan attacked the French parliament on Tuesday for passing a ‘discriminatory and racist’ bill which makes it illegal to deny that the mass killing of Armenians by Ottoman Turks nearly a century ago was genocide… Some Turkish newspapers listed possible measures that Ankara might take against France. These included the recall of its ambassador from Paris and telling the French ambassador to go home, reducing diplomatic ties to charge d’affaires level, and closing Turkish airspace and waters to French military aircraft and vessels… Turkey’s ambassador in Paris, Tahsin Burcuoglu, said the vote would lead to a “total rupture” of relations between the two countries…” Read more.

Ancient Jewish Scrolls Found in Northern Afghanistan

01/24/2012 Leave a comment

The Jewish community in Afghanistan is proud of their rich heritage in an Islamic land no longer exists …

By Amie Ferris-Rotman – “KABUL (Reuters) – A cache of ancient Jewish scrolls from northern Afghanistan that has only recently come to light is creating a storm among scholars who say the landmark find could reveal an undiscovered side of medieval Jewry.

The 150 or so documents, dated from the 11th century, were found in Afghanistan’s Samangan province and most likely smuggled out — a sorry but common fate for the impoverished and war-torn country’s antiquities.

Israeli emeritus professor Shaul Shaked, who has examined some of the poems, commercial records and judicial agreements that make up the treasure, said while the existence of ancient Afghan Jewry is known, their culture was still a mystery.

‘Here, for the first time, we see evidence and we can actually study the writings of this Jewish community. It’s very exciting,’ Shaked told Reuters by telephone from Israel, where he teaches at the Comparative Religion and Iranian Studies department at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

The hoard is currently being kept by private antique dealers in London, who have been producing a trickle of new documents over the past two years, which is when Shaked believes they were found and pirated out of Afghanistan in a clandestine operation.

It is likely they belonged to Jewish merchants on the Silk Road running across Central Asia, said T. Michael Law, a British Academy Postdoctoral Fellow at Oxford University’s Center for Hebrew and Jewish Studies.

‘They might have been left there by merchants travelling along the way, but they could also come from another nearby area and deposited for a reason we do not yet understand,’ Law said.” Read more.

Georgia Judge Orders President Obama to Appear in Court Over Question of Eligibility

01/23/2012 2 comments

Hey Obama, if you have enough time to play nearly 100 golf games by now since taking office, don’t try to squirm out of Georgia by claiming that you’re too busy as President to defend your own eligibility. If the question of eligibility is without merit, then appear in court with proof …

By Chuck Williams – “A Georgia judge has ordered President Barack Obama to appear in court in Atlanta Thursday for a hearing on a complaint that says Obama isn’t a natural-born citizen and can’t be president.

Orly Taitz, the California attorney who brought the legal challenge to Obama’s name on the March Georgia presidential primary ballot, says this is what she has been working for over the last three years.

‘This will be 100 times bigger than Watergate,’ she said Saturday morning, referring to the scandal that brought down President Richard Nixon in 1974.

‘There are high ranking judges and federal officials who are involved in this cover up. The ramifications of this trial will be enormous.’

Taitz said she expects the president’s legal team to fight his appearance in the Georgia court.

‘But he’s in a catch-22,’ she said. ‘If he is appealing this decision, then he looks guilty. The whole nation understands this man is a fraud.’

Taitz has led the ‘Birther’ movement that insists Obama is not a natural-born U.S. citizen. She is also familiar to Georgia courts.

Taitz represented two soldiers in U.S. District Court in Columbus who sought to avoid deployment by arguing Obama wasn’t the commander-in-chief because he wasn’t eligible to be president.

Federal Judge Clay Land warned Taitz against filing a frivolous suit, then fined her $20,000 after he denied the second claim.

This is one of many such lawsuits that have been filed across the country, so far without success.

A Georgia resident made the complaint, which is intended to keep Obama’s name off the state’s ballot in the March presidential primary.” Read more.

Subculture of Americans Prepares for Civilization’s Collapse

01/21/2012 2 comments

By Jim Forsyth – “(Reuters) – When Patty Tegeler looks out the window of her home overlooking the Appalachian Mountains in southwestern Virginia, she sees trouble on the horizon.

‘In an instant, anything can happen,’ she told Reuters. ‘And I firmly believe that you have to be prepared.’

Tegeler is among a growing subculture of Americans who refer to themselves informally as ‘preppers.’ Some are driven by a fear of imminent societal collapse, others are worried about terrorism, and many have a vague concern that an escalating series of natural disasters is leading to some type of environmental cataclysm.

They are following in the footsteps of hippies in the 1960s who set up communes to separate themselves from what they saw as a materialistic society, and the survivalists in the 1990s who were hoping to escape the dictates of what they perceived as an increasingly secular and oppressive government.

Preppers, though are, worried about no government.

Tegeler, 57, has turned her home in rural Virginia into a ‘survival center,’ complete with a large generator, portable heaters, water tanks, and a two-year supply of freeze-dried food that her sister recently gave her as a birthday present. She says that in case of emergency, she could survive indefinitely in her home. And she thinks that emergency could come soon.

‘I think this economy is about to fall apart,’ she said.” Read more.

Florida Congressman Allen West Discusses Israel, Iran, and Why He Believes We’re On the Precipice of World War III (Video)

01/20/2012 1 comment

I hope that whoever clinches the GOP nomination picks Allen West for VP …

Host: “If Israel has to take that next step, which may be coming soon … what happens with the Islamic population of the Middle East and their, perhaps, going against Israel and what’s the reaction of Russia and China? Are we heading towards a World War III?”

Rep. West: “Well, I think that you’re on the precipice of that. There’s no doubt about it. And like I said …”

Host: “So you do believe that we’re on the precipice of a World War III?”

Rep. West: “Oh, Absolutely.  I mean, when you look at all the forces that are lining up on one side or the other it’s coming that way.  I mean, China is definitely in an economic war with the United States of America and Western civilization, the Islamic totalitarians are definitely feeling their oats and they’re pushing their agenda even further for that.  I think that Iran is a major player in that. It’s manifested with non-state, non-uniform terrorist activities and you see that occurring. Look at what’s happening in Egypt. You know, you force Hosni Mubarak to step down, much the same as we did not support the Shah of Iran, and look at the bad things that are occurring there.  So I think that right now we need to have a very strong declaration of support to Israel. We need to make sure that we are providing the right material support to Israel, as well as moral support …”

National Review Online: Newt’s Right on Sharia

01/19/2012 Leave a comment

Whether you love him, hate him, or you’re just plain indifferent, one thing is undeniably clear: Newt Gingrich would make a much better President than the current occupant of the Oval Office …

By Frank J. Gaffney Jr. – “Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich was asked yesterday whether he would support a Muslim for president. His answer may have been one of the most important teaching moments of the long and difficult campaign season.

Speaker Gingrich responding by saying it depends on whether the candidate was ‘a modern person who happens to worship Allah.’ Or ‘a person who belonged to any kind of belief in sharia, any kind of effort to impose that on the rest of us.’ He rightly concluded by saying that the former would not be a threat while the latter would be a ‘mortal threat.’

Newt is absolutely right in making such a distinction. The danger we currently face from the so-called Muslim world arises not from the fact that people are Muslim, but from the extent to which they adhere to the totalitarian, supremacist Islamic doctrine of sharia.

Gingrich also repeated his earlier call for federal legislation to ensure that sharia is not practiced in U.S. courts. An appellate-court ruling last week in connection with an amendment to the Oklahoma state constitution would seem to preclude such an initiative.

In fact, legislation that would prevent any foreign laws — including sharia — from being practiced in state courts if they conflict with U.S. constitutional rights or state pubic policy has been enacted in Tennessee, Louisiana, and Arizona. In none of the three cases has the constitutionality of this statute, known as American Laws for American Courts (ALAC), been challenged. ALAC is under consideration in roughly another 20 state legislatures.

Some have argued that there is no need for such legislation. There is. A Center for Security Policy study of a microcosm of American jurisprudence — 50 state appellate-level cases — established that there have been at least 27 cases in 23 states where sharia law was applied. A pro-sharia group, ShariaInAmerica.com, found many more such cases.” Read more.

Fact Check: Why Rick Perry is Right About Turkey

01/18/2012 2 comments

Leave it to CNN to misrepresent facts. Again. Even a left-leaning lobotomized liberal willing to take a mere cursory glance at the AKP’s Erdogan or even Turkish history in general would, with whatever remaining fragment of logic and reason they still possessed, have easily concluded that Rick Perry was much closer to the truth than they’d otherwise be willing to admit. But then again, when the integrity of journalism is lobotomized by the scalpel of political correctness, no room for logic and reason remain …

By Daniel Greenfield – “Fact checkers and truth squads are the media’s latest tool for blurring the line between the editorial page and the new page. The ubiquitous fact checks are editorializing dressed up as verification. While on some occasions there are actual facts to verify, for the most part the fact checks defend a partisan liberal viewpoint on a particular issue.

So no sooner did Rick Perry suggest that Turkey had no place in NATO and that some perceive its government to be run by Islamic terrorists than the media rolled out its fact checks. In the spirit of fact checking the fact checkers, let’s have a fact check of our own.

CNN Statement: ‘Turkey is not ruled by Islamic terrorists. It is led by a party with Islamist roots, the Justice and Freedom Party, or AKP.’

Those are the facts according to CNN’s Truth Squad, which took its name from a certain book by George Orwell. But let’s look at the actual facts.

The Facts: The AKP emerged out of a series of banned Islamist political movements. CNN’s Lie Squad mentions that the AKP’s current leader of Turkey Erdogan was banned for reading an Islamic poem in public. It neglects to mention the content of the poem.

Sudan: Former Prime Minister Accused of Blasphemy After Proposing Women Be Allowed to Lead Prayers in Mosques

01/17/2012 Leave a comment

Don’t be surprised. According to Islam’s prophet, women are little more than a man’s possession imparted by Allah with only half the intelligence of her owner-husband. Which is probably why the word of a woman is only worth half that of the superior sex. And why a female receives only half the inheritance that a male receives. Such intellectual and social deficiencies must therefore mean that it’ll be twice as hard for a woman to earn her way into Mohammed’s Paradise, which would explain why Mohammed said that a majority of the occupants in Hell were women

By REEM ABBAS – “A leading Sudanese opposition figure is under heavy criticism for proposing that women be allowed to lead prayers in mosques.

Sadiq Al-Mahdi, who is a former prime minister in the government, has also been pushing for the abolition of the niqab, the female face veils, as a way of ‘freeing’ Muslim women in Sudan.

Currently, Al-Mahdi leads one of the country’s major opposition parties, the Umma Party.

Reacting to the proposals, the Sharī’a Association of Scholars and Preachers of Sudan denounced the comments as ‘blasphemy’ and demanded the opposition leader atone or face trial.

The association is charged with the responsibility of defending Islam, a religion that has strict guidelines for women, especially on dressing.

In recent years, another opposition leader who is a popular Islamic theologian in the Northern African country, Hassan Al-Turabi, was declared an apostate after making statements about women’s rights in Islam.

Al-Turabi who leads the Islamist-centred Popular Congress Party (PCP) also said that Muslim women can marry Christian and Jewish men as they are ‘men of the Book’ and that women could lead prayers in mosques and should have equal rights with men.” Source – Africa Review.
