“ROMPIN: Malaysians should support President Barack Obama’s policies on improving ties with Islamic countries, said Malaysian Ambassador to the United States Datuk Seri Dr Jamaluddin Jarjis.
He said it was especially crucial as Obama was facing great challenges to his policies from Congress.
‘The previous administration’s policies towards Islamic countries were very worrying to us.’
‘Ever since Obama took over, he has been implementing changes to build better relations with Islamic nations,’ said Dr Jamaluddin.
He added that Obama should be supported so he would continue to treat Muslims fairly.
‘It is not easy for him to change the prejudice towards Islam which has become deeply set.’
‘We have to support him, not criticise him as it cannot be changed in the blink of an eye,’ he told reporters after handing out dividend payments to participants of Risda’s commercial replanting scheme at Muadzam Shah here recently.” Read more.

She is an intellectual professor and lawyer who defends Islamic law. New York: Muslims at Rye Playland Assault Police and Park Rangers, Didn’t Like Safety Rule Banning Hats and Head Coverings on Rides
“Rye Playland was shut down Tuesday after cops scuffled with Muslims upset that women wearing head scarves were barred from the rides, witnesses said.
Fifteen people, including three women, were charged with disorderly conduct and assault in the chaos, authorities said.
The Westchester County park was packed with Muslims celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr – the holiday marking the end of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.
One woman, Entisai Ali, began arguing with cops over the amusement park’s head scarf, or hijab, rule, said Dena Meawad, 18, of Bay Ridge, Brooklyn.
The ban, which is not Muslim specific, was imposed about 3 years ago mostly to prevent hats from falling onto the tracks of roller coasters and other rides, park officials said…
John Hodges, chief inspector of Westchester County Public Safety, insisted that police did not use excessive force.
He said up to 100 cops from surrounding departments converged on the park.
Two park rangers were injured in the melee, prompting felony assault charges against two people arrested, officials said.” Read more.

Turkey: Israel No Longer A ‘Friend’, ‘It’s Time For Israel To Pay The Price’, Israeli Ambassador and Diplomats Expelled
The Palmer Report has been released, and it ‘harshly criticizes Turkey for failing to reign in Islamist activists which it knew were bent on violent confrontations with Israeli troops’. Keep in mind, however, that since Turkey is now lead by an Islamist government under Erdogan, its actions today against Israel come as no surprise whatsoever. Besides, a ‘friend’ who only pretended to be a ‘friend’ in the hopes of becoming a member of the European Union was never really a ‘friend’ to begin with …
“Israel-Turkey relations sink to a new low: Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu announced on Friday that following Jerusalem’s adamant refusal to apologize over the 2010 Gaza flotilla raid, Ankara will be downgrading its diplomatic relations with Israel and suspending key military agreements.
In a dramatic turn of events, Turkey announced that it was expelling Israeli Ambassador Gabby Levy from Ankara. Davutoglu said Turkey’s diplomatic representation in Israel would be further reduced to second-secretary level. In accordance, all lower Israeli diplomatic personnel above the second-secretary level have also been expelled.
The announcement followed a press conference, in which Davutoglu said that some of the UN’s Palmer Report findings on the raid were ‘unacceptable,’ adding that it was ‘time for Israel to pay the price… The highest price it can pay is losing our friendship.’
‘Today, we reached a point where Israel has, in fact, spent all of the chances that were given to them. The Israeli government, on the other hand, see themselves (as being) above international laws and human conscience,’ the Turkish FM said.
Turkey withdrew its own ambassador to Israel immediately after last year’s raid.
Davutoğlu’s stated that Ankara views the Israeli government as responsible for the situation, and that Turkey will not revise its position on the matter until Israel reconsiders its stand on the flotilla incident. Davutoğlu added that despite the Palmer Report findings, Turkey does not recognise the legality of the Israeli blockade on Gaza.” Read more.
PALMER COMMISSION REPORT RELEASED – “The UN Palmer Commission finally released its report on the May, 2010 Mavi Marmarra flotilla incident on Friday, even as the Turkish government warned Israel of severe diplomatic repercussions if it did not issue a formal apology for the nine Turkish citizens who were killed after they attacked Israeli commandos who boarded the Marmara. The Turkish position is severely weakened by the Palmer Report, which harshly criticizes Turkey for failing to reign in Islamist activists which it knew were bent on violent confrontations with Israeli troops, and declares that Israel’s blockade of the Gaza Strip was legal under international law.” Read more.
They Know Not the Day or Hour: Id Confusion in Indonesia as Muslims Unclear Whether to Continue Fasting or Not
“JAKARTA – Indonesia’s government has declared that the moon is not in the right position for the Islamic fasting month of Ramadan to end as expected on Tuesday, causing hungry disappointment in the world’s most populous Muslim nation.
Indonesians, 90 percent of whom are Muslim, celebrate the end of Ramadan or Id al-Fitr festival with a feast and new clothes, but they have been forced to put their delicacies back in the cupboard for one more day.
Housewife Nur Arifah did not expect the announcement, which came late on Monday, and got up early that day to cook plenty of stewed beef for her family in Jakarta.
‘My nephews and nieces have all gathered in my father’s house to celebrate with new clothes, yet it’s the wrong day.
‘The market has already shut, so for me to be able to cook a new dish…we might as well eat instant noodles for Id al-Fitr,’ she said.
Many other Muslims who were set to start eating during the day returned to fasting between sunrise and sunset on Tuesday, while shopping malls pushed their closing holiday to Wednesday.
The position of the moon determines the start and end of Ramadan, and astronomers and Muslim bodies told the Indonesian government the moon was too low to herald Id al-Fitr.
But members of Muhammadiyah, the country’s second biggest Islamic group, are still celebrating Id on Tuesday since some astronomers say it falls on that day. Other nations, such as Saudi Arabia, are celebrating as well.” Read more.
Sharia Creep in the UK: Muslims Demand Sharia Student Loans Because Paying Interest Goes Against Islamic Law
If Muslim students desire interest-free student loans, maybe they’d be best served by studying in Saudi Arabia instead. Or Yemen. Or Iran. Or Afghanistan. Or Pakistan. Or any one of many Islamic countries that practices Sharia Law. If the UK placates and begins giving Muslim students interest-free loans because it ‘goes against Islamic law’, then other Muslims will begin asking for interest-free car loans, and interest-free home mortgages, and interest-free credit cards, and whatever else ‘interests’ them …
“Muslim groups are calling for a separate student loan system because the interest due to be charged will conflict with rules of Sharia law.
The changes to tuition fees, which come into force next year, will see students charged higher rates of interest on the loans they take out to pay for university.
Until now they have paid the market rate of inflation but the reforms mean students who go on to earn more than £21,000 will have to pay interest of up to 3 per cent.
But in some interpretations of Sharia law, which is Islam’s legal system and governs every aspect of Muslim life, loans are forbidden.
The National Union of Students has said it could be two years before an alternative system is worked out, leaving some Muslims fearing they cannot go on to further education.
The Federation of Student Islamic Societies told The Independent that the rate increase was a ‘pressing issue’.
A spokesman said: ‘Because the rate of interest is above the rate of inflation, it is quite blatant usury.’
Usury means the practice of lending money and charging the borrower interest, possibly at a very high rate.
Mohammed Ahmed-Sheikh, 17, says the changes will discourage him from applying to university next year.
‘The fees are the reason I’m having doubts. I’m Muslim and loans are against my religion,’ he told The Independent.” Read more.
New, Convincing Evidence Indicates Global Warming is Caused by Cosmic Rays and the Sun — Not Humans
By Lawrence Solomon – “The science is now all-but-settled on global warming, convincing new evidence demonstrates, but Al Gore, the IPCC and other global warming doomsayers won’t be celebrating. The new findings point to cosmic rays and the sun — not human activities — as the dominant controller of climate on Earth.
The research, published with little fanfare this week in the prestigious journal Nature, comes from über-prestigious CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, one of the world’s largest centres for scientific research involving 60 countries and 8,000 scientists at more than 600 universities and national laboratories. CERN is the organization that invented the World Wide Web, that built the multi-billion dollar Large Hadron Collider, and that has now built a pristinely clean stainless steel chamber that precisely recreated the Earth’s atmosphere.
In this chamber, 63 CERN scientists from 17 European and American institutes have done what global warming doomsayers said could never be done — demonstrate that cosmic rays promote the formation of molecules that in Earth’s atmosphere can grow and seed clouds, the cloudier and thus cooler it will be. Because the sun’s magnetic field controls how many cosmic rays reach Earth’s atmosphere (the stronger the sun’s magnetic field, the more it shields Earth from incoming cosmic rays from space), the sun determines the temperature on Earth.
The hypothesis that cosmic rays and the sun hold the key to the global warming debate has been Enemy No. 1 to the global warming establishment ever since it was first proposed by two scientists from the Danish Space Research Institute, at a 1996 scientific conference in the U.K. Within one day, the chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, Bert Bolin, denounced the theory, saying, ‘I find the move from this pair scientifically extremely naive and irresponsible.’ He then set about discrediting the theory, any journalist that gave the theory cre dence, and most of all the Danes presenting the theory — they soon found themselves vilified, marginalized and starved of funding, despite their impeccable scientific credentials.” Read more.

By Ben Hirschler – “(Reuters) – Astronomers have spotted an exotic planet that seems to be made of diamond racing around a tiny star in our galactic backyard.
The new planet is far denser than any other known so far and consists largely of carbon. Because it is so dense, scientists calculate the carbon must be crystalline, so a large part of this strange world will effectively be diamond.
‘The evolutionary history and amazing density of the planet all suggest it is comprised of carbon — i.e. a massive diamond orbiting a neutron star every two hours in an orbit so tight it would fit inside our own Sun,’ said Matthew Bailes of Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne.
Lying 4,000 light years away, or around an eighth of the way toward the center of the Milky Way from the Earth, the planet is probably the remnant of a once-massive star that has lost its outer layers to the so-called pulsar star it orbits.” Read more.

Real Leadership: Netanyahu Will NOT Apologize to Turkey Over Flotilla Incident, Palmer Report To Be Released August 22
“Israel will stick to its refusal to apologize to Turkey for killing nine of its citizens aboard a Gaza-bound ship, an official said on Wednesday, dampening any prospects for reconciliation between the former allies.
The decision, which the official said Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu conveyed to US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in a telephone call, was made days before the publication of the findings of a UN inquiry into the seizure of the Mavi Marmara last year.
The so-called Palmer report was repeatedly delayed to allow for Israeli-Turkish rapprochement talks amid concern in Washington at the rift between two countries that had been strategic partners in an increasingly stormy Middle East.
Officials, citing advance copies of the report, have said it would vindicate Israel’s blockade on the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip. Turkey, which like Israel had a delegate on the UN panel headed by former New Zealand prime minister Geoffrey Palmer, has said it would not accept such a finding.
The Mavi Marmara was part of an activist flotilla bringing humanitarian aid to Gaza when it was boarded by Israeli marines on the Mediterranean high seas on May 31, 2010. The marines shot dead nine Turks, including a dual US citizen, during fierce deck brawls.
Netanyahu voiced regret over the killings. But Turkey insisted on a formal apology and compensation for those bereaved and injured, which Israel initially rejected as tantamount to admitting culpability for an action it deems self-defense.
Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan said on Wednesday it would be impossible for Turkish-Israeli ties to improve unless Jerusalem apologized and paid compensation for the killing of nine Turks.” Read more.

Canada: ‘Humble’ and ‘Well Respected’ Islamic Leader of Scarborough Mosque Charged With String of Sex assaults
By Chloé Fedio and Curtis Rush – “Members of a Scarborough mosque have expressed shock and disbelief that their ‘nice’ and ‘humble’ religious leader has been charged with a string of sexual assaults.
Mohammad Masroor, the imam at the Baitul Mukarram Islamic Society on Danforth Ave., faces 13 charges involving sexual offences and death threats relating to five alleged victims.
Police said Masroor, 48, travelled the world before settling in Toronto in 2008, and believe there could be more victims, here and abroad.
Abdur Rouf Tarafdar was one of more than a dozen people who vouched for Masroor’s pious character as he left afternoon prayer on Wednesday.
‘I know him. Behind him I pray,’ he said.
Abdul Fattah Aboud, an imam at the Baitul Aman Masjid mosque a few blocks away, said the father of five used to wave as he passed by on his way to prayer.
‘Is it possible? Someone like him?’ he said. ‘He’s a very well respected person in the community.'” Read more.

California: Strange Smoke Coming from Hope Ranch Hill Near Santa Barbara
“Santa Barbara – An unsolved mystery is smoldering on a dirt hillside below Hope Ranch.
Smoke and steam are coming out of the soil, very similar to an event in October 2006.
Geologists have said a landslide five years ago may have opened up a crack in the bluff. That may have added oxygen to an underground super heated tar site.
The hot zone is being controlled with sprinklers spraying waters in all directions. A fence is also up in the area to keep inquisitive beach walkers away.
Santa Barbara County Fire officials say there is no immediate threat to the area or risk to the public.
