Scientists and Researchers Concerned About Unusual Seismic Activity in Yellowstone Following Earthquake Swarms
Reporter: “The mountain west region and Yellowstone in particular are no strangers to earthquakes, but what scientists say is unusual is to see the kind of energy that they’re seeing for this extended period of time.”
U of U Researcher: “We haven’t had this energetic or intensive swarm in many years. Well over a decade. So it’s not normal, it’s unusual… We don’t know why this happened now. We normally get a thousand to 2 thousand earthquakes a year in Yellowstone. The fact that we got 250 or so in three days makes — we made up a lot of that energy release in a short period of time…”
California: State Hit By Earthquake Swarm, More Than 50 Earthquakes Shake State in 14 Hours
“More than fifty earthquakes have shaken the US State of California in the 14-hour period up to 2:00 p.m. GMT (6:00 a.m. PDT) Friday, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
The quakes occurred throughout the Pacific coastal state, including the Greater Los Angeles area, San Diego and the San Francisco Bay area. The majority of the earthquakes ranged between 2-4 magnitude. Other areas to experience earth tremors include Holtville, Pinnacles, Johnville, Valle Vista, La Jolla, Anderson Springs, Hawthorns, Anza, The Geysers, San Carlos, Hemet and Keene.
Earthquake swarms are events where a local area experiences sequences of many earthquakes striking in a relatively short period of time. The length of time used to define the swarm itself varies, but the United States Geological Survey (USGS) points out that an event may be on the order of days, weeks, or months. They are differentiated from earthquakes succeeded by a series of aftershocks by the observation that no single earthquake in the sequence is obviously the main shock. Earthquake swarms also are one of the events typically preceding eruptions of volcanoes.” Read more.
England: Teacups Rattle on the South Coast After Strongest Tremor in 300 Years Shakes in the English Channel
“Tea cups rattled at breakfast-time this morning as an earthquake struck the English Channel – and almost went unnoticed.
Some witnesses appeared to doubt whether the small tremor was anything more than a heavy lorry rumbling by on the south coast.
Others based in Worthing, West Sussex, questioned whether the 3.9 magnitude quake was simply a trick of their imagination.
But according to the British Geological Survey (BGS), it is the biggest to strike a 16 mile region in 300 years.
People living in parts of West Sussex said buildings shook for a few seconds at around 8am…
‘This is the largest earthquake within 25 km (16 miles) since a magnitude 4.5 event in 1734,’ David Kerridge, from the BGS, added.” Read more.
River Goes Missing After Moderate 5.3 Earthquake Shakes Costa Rica
“Today at approximately 2:11pm in the afternoon, Upala was rattled by a 5.3 magnitude earthquake that shook products off store shelves and rattled off home furnishings. No immediate damages were reported however later in the afternoon something strange was discovered as a result.
While reporting on the earthquake in Upala today, a local news station discovered that a district near the epicenter was missing a river. That’s right…A RIVER.
Apparently in the moments following the earthquake, a community stood watch as their river disappeared in to the Earth. As of this writing it is still unknown exactly which community this occurred in however once we have the name we will update this article. The affected citizens were interviewed and expressed concern for the loss of this substantial water supply to the area. Not only will this affect humans but also the livestock raised in the area.” Read more.

Citizens have been nervous about a potential killer quake following the devastating tremors that have hit Japan and New Zealand this year.
One fault line runs directly under Manila, and government seismologists have warned that the city is unprepared for a major quake.” Read more.

Scientists Say California Mega-Quake Imminent
By Becky Kellogg – “Like a steaming kettle with the top on, pressure is building beneath the surface of California that could unleash a monster earthquake at any time. That’s according to a new study from the Scripps Institute of Oceanography.
Geologists say Southern California is long overdue for a huge earthquake that could unleash widespread damage.
It all comes down to the Salton Sea, which lies to the east of San Diego. The Salton Sea lies directly on the San Andreas Fault and covers more than 350 square miles.” Read more.
Flashback: NASA’s Website Accidentally Predicts Another Catastrophic Earthquake in 2011 – “Pasadena, CA — Amateur astronomers using NASA’s website have found that the Jet Propulsion Laboratory Small Body Database Browser has predicted the three most recent 7.0+ magnitude earthquakes with striking accuracy… It is unclear who was the first to noticed a startling relationship between the alignment of a comet known as Comet C/2010 X1 (Elenin), but the discovery has been cause for much speculation. After in-depth analysis of data from NASA’s website and other sources, one financial advisor has begun to ask the hard questions.” Read more.
