Possible Volcanic Concerns After 500+ Earthquakes Near Hawthorne, Nevada This Week
By Brooke Boone – “Five Hundred plus earthquakes near Hawthorne, Nev. over the past week have scientists looking closer at the ground.
They are looking at seismic and volcanic activity in Nevada. What is the possibility of ‘the big one’ hitting Nevada? Or a volcano popping-up in Nevada?
The images from the movie ‘Volcano’ are extreme. But, could we see the explosions or lava flow like in this film happen in Nevada? Seismologist Graham Kent says a movie-like eruption is not likely. ‘The type of lava that comes out of Aurora crater is much more like the Hawaiian. It is not the explosive kind.’
Kent is talking about the Aurora Volcanic Field located just miles from the area where hundreds of quakes began rumbling a week ago. The center of those quakes, just eight miles from Hawthorne, Nev.” Read more.

Earthquakes Rattle Pacific Ring Of Fire Nations – Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Taiwan, Tonga…
By MARK DUNPHY – “At least five countries located on the Pacific Ring of Fire have experienced earthquakes greater than a magnitude of 5 over the past 24 hours.
A 5.4 magnitude earthquake hit north-eastern Australia on Saturday afternoon. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) said the quake took place at 3.30pm local time (0530 GMT) about 124 kilometres southeast of Townsville, Queensland. The quake was measured at a depth of 10 kilometres. Queensland was hit by another 5.4 magnitude quake on 16 March last.
Meanwhile, Christchurch in New Zealand has been hit by more aftershocks this afternoon, leaving several parts of the city without power. The strongest of the tremors measured 5.2 on the Richter Scale. The country’s second largest city was hit by a 6.3 magnitude earthquake in February. 181 people were killed.
Elsewhere, Japan was rattled by a 5.9 magnitude aftershock on Saturday afternoon but there were no initial reports of damage and no risk of a tsunami.
Taiwan was hit by a quake measuring 5.8 on the Richter Scale. The quake struck 220km east of Keelung City. Tonga, an archipelago in the South Pacific Ocean, also experienced a 5.7 magnitude earthquake last night.” Read more.
Earthquakes Cut Power in New Zealand, Rattle Windows in Australia
“BRISBANE, Australia – Moderate earthquakes rattled parts of Australia and New Zealand on Saturday, including the devastated city of Christchurch where power was cut to thousands of homes, officials said.
No major damage was reported from either quake, and no tsunami warning was issued.
The magnitude-5.2 quake that struck Christchurch was far less powerful than one that levelled office blocks and homes in the New Zealand city on Feb. 22, killing at least 169 people and devastating the downtown area.” Read more.
Swarm Of Quakes In Nevada Have Experts Concerned
By Brooke Boone – “Nevada Seismologists are keeping a close eye on an area southwest of Hawthorne, Nevada where hundreds of earthquakes have been detected since Sunday.
‘It’s a little bit concerning in a sense.. The largest earthquakes in these sequences are pretty large in size.’ Graham Kent is Director of Nevada Seismological Laboratory at the University of Nevada Reno. He says there have been hundreds of earthquakes southwest of Hawthorne over the past few days. The largest– recorded at a 4.4 in size.
‘These are the biggest in a sequence we’ve seen at least in the last couple of years.’ Kent says unlike the 2008 quakes in Somersett that damaged so many homes, these earthquakes are fortunately not underneath a community.
Size is not the only reason Kent says they are watching the swarm of quakes closely. The location of these quakes is on top of a fault that has until now remained unknown or has not been active. Kent then made an eerie comparison, ‘Whats really interesting about most of these earthquakes we’ve experienced. Short of the Chilean and Japanese; Haiti, Baha, even Christchurch.. Were on unknown faults.'” Read more.
Report: Japan Mulls to Move Capital over Disaster Worries
“As powerful earthquakes continue to jolt Japan and radiation levels near Tokyo are rising, the Asian country’s authorities are considering moving the capital to another city.
The most probable location for a new capital are Osaka and Nagoya, according to ITAR-TASS. Both cities are located near international airports.
The main conditions the new capital has to provide are a population over 50 000 and a sufficient capacity to accommodate the parliament, the government, the Emperor’s residency and the foreign diplomatic missions.” Read more.
As The World Moves – Japanese Ground ‘Liquification’ During Earthquake
The ground moves. Sways. Buckles. And all right before your very eyes. Disorientating. Unsettling. These are not the type of video clips that will encourage Japanese tourism. Almost makes you wonder if everything will one day just suddenly sink into the Pacific.

6.4 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes East Coast of Japan Near Tokyo
“A STRONG earthquake has struck Tokyo, a day after a monster aftershock shook the country.
The 6.4 magnitude quake struck just 77km east of Tokyo off the coast of Chiba prefecture at 9.08am (AEST).

Japan’s Meteorological Agency Issues Warnings of Potential Volcanic Cataclysms for Japan
By Gang Phan – “Japan’s Meteorological Agency on Friday warned the country’s 20 volcanoes has become alive due to the massive March 11 earthquake, and a study said [an] earthquake over 9.0-magnitude might hit Japan.
The Agency said volcanic explosion[s] occurred after earthquake[s] several times in history and people should maintain vigilance against this tendency.
The number of earthquake[s] above 6.0 M reached 77 on March. And 74 out of them occurred in [the] quake-hit region, were aftershock[s]. The number is 50 times over the same period last year.
The largest aftershock on April 7 [that] hit Japan has killed 4 people, injured at least 166, and caused a power outage [for] over 2.61 million households, according to Japan’s police officials. The Meteorological Agency warned aftershocks above 6.0 M like the April 7 earthquake probably would hit Japan again.” Read more.
Another Strong Earthquake Strikes Japan; Fukushima Nuke Plant Evacuated
“SENDAI, Japan — A strong new earthquake rattled Japan’s northeast Monday as the government urged more people living near a tsunami-crippled nuclear plant to leave, citing concerns about long-term health risks from radiation.
The magnitude 7.0 aftershock came just hours after people bowed their heads and wept in somber ceremonies to mark a month since a massive earthquake and tsunami that killed up to 25,000 people and set off a crisis of radiation leaks at the nuclear plant by knocking out its cooling systems…
Japanese officials said the quake was a 7.0 magnitude, but the U.S. Geological Survey said it measured magnitude 6.6.” Read more.
