An Obama Nation: Medical Companies Brace For ‘Devastating’ ObamaCare Tax, Prepare For Layoffs
“This is going to hurt.”
By Judson Berger, FOX News – “Andre DiMino has been running medical device company ADM Tronics since his father, who founded the decades-old firm, died in 2001. He’s never laid off anybody.
‘These people are like family with us,’ he said.
The boss might not be able to hold out much longer. Come Jan. 1, an ObamaCare-tied tax specific to his industry is expected to go into effect. Though the Obama administration has downplayed the impact, DiMino calls it ‘devastating.’
‘I think after all of these decades of not laying people off, I think we may have to face that,’ DiMino told FoxNews.com. He predicted he might have to immediately lay off three people in his manufacturing division and possibly more after that.
DiMino, whose Bergen County, N.J., business currently employs 20 workers, is one of hundreds of CEOs across the country clamoring for Washington’s attention, urging lawmakers to kill the tax before it kills jobs.
In just the last few days, the intense lobbying push elicited some measure of response. On Monday, 18 Democratic senators and senators-elect asked Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid to delay the tax, citing the business impact. They noted the industry employs more than 400,000 people, and is dealing with ‘significant uncertainty and confusion.’
Many in the industry, though, have been clear-eyed about what the tax means — preemptive layoffs and significant cutbacks in research and development.
While DiMino is waiting for next year to see if he’ll need to fire workers, over at Uresil, LLC, in Skokie, Ill., the layoffs have already started.” Read more.

CBS – “NEWTOWN, Conn. (CBSNewYork) – Twenty children are among 28 people who were killed Friday morning after a gunman opened fire at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn.
State Police Lt. Paul Vance said 18 children and 6 adults were pronounced dead at that scene. Two other children later died at the hospital. One other person was injured, Vance said.
A 28th victim was found dead at a secondary crime scene, Lance said. He would not elaborate on the details.
Among those dead is the gunman. A source familiar with the investigation identified him as 20-year-old Adam Lanza, CBS News reported. He was found dead inside the building from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, sources told CBS 2.
Law enforcement sources had earlier told CBS News that the gunman was 24-year-old Ryan Lanza, Adam Lanza’s older brother. Ryan Lanza, of Hoboken, New Jersey, is now being questioned by police.
The shooting has become the second-deadliest school shooting in the nation’s history, exceeded only by the 2007 massacre at Virginia Tech that left 33 people dead.” Read more.
Texas: Curriculum Under Fire For Teaching ‘Allah Is The Almighty God’, Calls Boston Tea Party ‘A Terrorist Organization’
By JOHN GRIFFING – “In the 70 percent of Texas public schools where a private curriculum has been installed, students are learning the ‘fact’ that ‘Allah is the Almighty God,’ charge critics of a new online curriculum that already is facing condemnation for its secrecy and restrictions on oversight.
The program, called CSCOPE, is a private venture operating under the umbrella of the Texas Education Service Center Curriculum Collaborative, whose incorporation documents state its independence from the State Board of Education of the Texas Education Agency.
Other reports previously have raised alarm over the curriculum’s depiction of the Boston Tea Party as a terrorist act on par with the 9/11 attack.
According to documentation that has leaked out, the program describes the Boston Tea Party this way: ‘A local militia, believed to be a terrorist organization, attacked the property of private citizens today at our nation’s busiest port. Although no one was injured in the attack, a large quantity of merchandise, considered to be valuable to its owners and loathsome to the perpetrators, was destroyed. The terrorists, dressed in disguise and apparently intoxicated, were able to escape into the night with the help of local citizens who harbor these fugitives and conceal their identities from the authorities. It is believed that the terrorist attack was a response to the policies enacted by the occupying country’s government. Even stronger policies are anticipated by the local citizens.’
There also have been reports that the curriculum – contrary to recent Supreme Court rulings – says the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, the right to bear arms, is limited to state-run organizations.
‘The collective right’s advocates believed that the Second Amendment did not apply to individuals; rather it recognized the right of a state to arm its militia. It recognized limited individual rights only when it was exercised by members of a functioning, organized militia while actively participating in the militia’s activities.’

Don’t Criticize The Taliban
Judicial Watch – “Here is a strong indicator that the Obama Administration’s crusade to appease Islam has gone too far; a new U.S. military handbook for troops deployed to the Middle East orders soldiers not to make derogatory comments about the Taliban or criticize pedophilia, among other outrageous things.
It gets better; the new manual, which is around 75 pages, suggests that Western ignorance of Afghan culture— not Taliban infiltration—is responsible for the increase in deadly attacks by Afghan soldiers against the coalition forces.
The soon-to-be-released Army handbook is still being drafted, but a mainstream newspaper got a sneak preview and published an article that should infuriate the American taxpayers funding the never-ending war on terror. The manual is being created because someone with authority bought the theory that cultural insensitivity is driving insider attacks on U.S. troops in Afghanistan.
More than three dozen insider attacks have killed 63 members of the U.S.-led coalition this year, according to the article, and some blame “American cultural ignorance.” The bottom line is that troops may experience social-cultural shock and/or discomfort when interacting with Afghan security forces, the new military handbook says. ‘Better situational awareness/understanding of Afghan culture will help better prepare [troops] to more effectively partner and to avoid cultural conflict that can lead toward green-on-blue violence.’
The draft leaked to the newspaper offers a list of ‘taboo conversation topics’ that soldiers should avoid, including ‘making derogatory comments about the Taliban,’ ‘advocating women’s rights,’ ‘any criticism of pedophilia,’ ‘directing any criticism towards Afghans,’ ‘mentioning homosexuality and homosexual conduct’ or ‘anything related to Islam.’

The U.S. Embassy in Cairo advised U.S. citizens in the country to avoid downtown Cairo amid heightened tensions.
‘At around 1:30 this morning, armed individuals fired into the area of the square where anti-MB protestors are staging a sit-in,’ a Tuesday statement from the embassy read. ‘Nine people were reportedly shot.’
U.N. rights officials have said some provisions in the draft constitution were cause for concern.

Anchor Norah O’Donnell raised the issue of the still-controversial health care law: ‘One of the things that’s going to change, of course, in the new year is ObamaCare, or the Affordable Care Act. How do you implement that at Cheesecake Factory, and how will you pay for health care for all of your employees?’ (audio clips available here …)
The restaurant chain executive pointed out that, unlike many businesses, The Cheesecake Factory is ‘already…paying a great deal in health care. So, we’re not sure how much more it will be – or how much less – or what exactly we’ll do. So, for us, it won’t be as bad as it will be for others, which it will be very costly.’
O’Donnell followed up by asking about the possibility increased prices for customers: ‘When you say it will be very costly, it will be passed on to who – the customers?‘ Overton confirmed that this would be the case: ‘Well, I believe most people will have to do that or cheapen their product.’

By Elad Benari, INN – “As expected, the United Nations passed a resolution on Thursday evening recognizing Palestine as a non-member observer state.
138 countries voted in favor of the resolution, nine countries voted against it, and 41 countries abstained.
Shortly before the vote, Palestinian Authority (PA) Head Mahmoud Abbas addressed the United Nations Thursday, in his bid to gain recognition for the PA as a non-member observer state. This status has only been accorded to the Vatican until now.
As he took the stage, Abbas launched his usual attack on Israel, accusing the Jewish State of attacking PA Arabs and carrying out ethnic cleansing.
As usual, Abbas did not condemn the rocket fire by Gaza terrorists on southern Israel.
‘Palestine comes today to the General Assembly because it believes in peace and because its people, as proven in past days, are in desperate need of it,’ he said, insisting that recognizing ‘Palestine’ as a non-member observer state is ‘the last chance to save the two-state solution.’
‘We have heard and you too have heard specifically over the past months the incessant flood of Israeli threats in response to our peaceful, political and diplomatic endeavor for Palestine to acquire non-member observer state in the United Nations,’ said Abbas. ‘And, you have surely witnessed how some of these threats have been carried out in a barbaric and horrific manner just days ago in the Gaza Strip.’ …

‘Then, as I began to contemplate ways to assist Barack in his 2012 re-election bid something miraculous happened. I felt God’s (His) Spirit beckoning me in my dreams at night. Listening, cautiously, I learned that Jesus walked the earth to create a more civilized society, Martin (Luther King) walked the earth to create a more justified society, but, Apostle Barack, the name he was called in my dreams, would walk the earth to create a more equalized society, for the middle class and working poor,’ she added.
“Barack, the next young leader with a new cause, had been taken to the mountaintop and allowed to see over the other side. He had the answers to unlock the kingdom of ‘heaven here on earth’ for his followers. The answers were repeated – over and over – in speeches Barack had made from his presidential announcement to his inaugural address. In November, the U.S. Department of Agriculture reported that a record 47,102,780 individuals receive food stamps.
According to US. Census Bureau data, that figure exceeds the combined populations of: Alaska, Arkansas, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Hawaii, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Utah, Vermont, West Virginia, and Wyoming.
Since January 2009, the number of individuals on food stamps has skyrocketed from 31.9 million to the current record high 47.1 million. By comparison, in 1969 just 2.8 million Americans received food stamps.
Also benefiting from the rapid rise in food stamps are companies like JP Morgan who administer Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards. A recent report by the Government Accountability Institute found that since 2004, JP Morgan’s 24 state EBT contracts have totaled at least $560,492,596.02.
Last year, the food stamp program (officially known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program or SNAP) cost taxpayers $72 billion, more than double the $30 billion spent four years ago.
The meteoric rise in the number of individuals receiving food stamps has spawned a thriving illegal online market for those seeking to turn their benefits into cash.

An Obama Nation: Pennsylvania College Slashes Work Hours For Hundreds Of Professors To Avoid Obamacare
By WYNTON HALL, Breitbart – “Pennsylvania’s Community College of Allegheny County (CCAC) is slashing the hours of 400 adjunct instructors, support staff, and part-time instructors to dodge paying for Obamacare.
‘It’s kind of a double whammy for us because we are facing a legal requirement [under the new law] to get health care and if the college is reducing our hours, we don’t have the money to pay for it,’ said adjunct biology professor Adam Davis.
On Tuesday, CCAC employees were notified that Obamacare defines full-time employees as those working 30 hours or more per week and that on Dec. 31 temporary part-time employees will be cut back to 25 hours. The move will save an estimated $6 million.
‘While it is of course the college’s preference to provide coverage to these positions, there simply are not funds available to do so,’ said CCAC spokesperson David Hoovler. ‘Several years of cuts or largely flat funding from our government supporters have led to significant cost reductions by CCAC, leaving little room to trim the college’s budget further.’
The solution, says United Steelworkers representative Jeff Cech, is that adjunct professors should unionize in an attempt to thwart schools seeking similar cost-savings efforts from avoiding Obamacare.
‘They may be complying with the letter of the law, but the letter of law and the spirit of the law are two different things,’ said Mr. Cech. ‘If they are doing it at CCAC, it can’t be long before they do it other places.’
Under the new CCAC policy, adjunct professors will only be allowed to teach 10 credit hours a semester. Adjuncts are paid $730 per credit hour.
‘We all know we are expendable,’ said Mr. Davis, ‘and there are plenty of people out there in this economy who would be willing to have our jobs.'” Source – Breitbart.
An Obama Nation: Obamacare’s Other Constitutional Problem — Mandated Support For Abortion

So far, the Catholic Church and 30 of the nation’s governors have taken the lead to battle against the health care law’s requirement that states establish health insurance exchanges and that abortion coverage be subsidized. Now private companies are enlisting in the fight.
Take the craft retail chain Hobby Lobby, whose operations reflect the Christian views of the Green family, its founder and owner. The company self-insures, so under Obamacare, it faces daily fines in excess of $1.3 million unless the Green family violates its religious beliefs and offers its 13,000 employees full coverage for items, including ‘morning after’ abortion pills beginning Jan. 1. The only other option for the company is to drop coverage of employees altogether and pay a $2,000 per employee annual tax. That’s still very expensive for the employer, and it’s probably worse for their employees.
Hobby Lobby found itself in this situation after the Department of Health and Human Services issued a regulation requiring employers provide coverage of contraception and related services, regardless of religious belief. The regulation had a narrow, one-year safe harbor for religious institutions, but it offered no relief for private employers running a for-profit business. Some 40 cases with about 100 plaintiffs are challenging the regulation. At heart of this litigation is the scope of the First Amendment’s free exercise of religion clause, and the role of religious belief in the daily life of American civil society.
