The word for “sorceries” in Revelation 9:21 is the Greek work “pharmakeia”, which is where we get the word “pharmacy” from.  Although I generally understand this word in its metaphorical sense in reference to the blatant idolatry noted in the preceding verse, we should not discount the possibility that it may also be referring to the billions raised each year to fund Islamic terror through illegal drug trafficking …

By Roi Kais, ynet – “A new study reveals that Lebanese Shiite group Hezbollah has discovered a new and original way of funding its terror activity – counterfeit medicine.

According to the study, over the past year Hezbollah terrorists have increased the manufacturing of fake Captagon, a drug used for treating Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. Although banned in most countries in the 1980s, illegally produced and smuggled Captagon – sometimes containing amphetamine instead of fenethylline – is a common drug of abuse in the Middle East.

Over the past year, several drug labs were uncovered in various mosques in Baalbeck and the Beqaa Valley in Lebanon.

The study suggests that Hezbollah has branched out from manufacturing and distributing drugs, and has begun producing fake medicine as a source of funding.

According to Dr. Boaz Ganor and Miri Halperin, who conducted the study, the change in Hezbollah’s financial focus mainly derives from the fundamentalist aspect of the organization.’As an Islamic organization, drug trafficking is problematic,’ Ganor said.

‘Firstly, the issue of drugs contradicts Islam’s religious commands. Throughout the years, Hezbollah has solved this problem by claiming that the drugs were not intended for internal use but rather for exporting purposes. Thus, the drugs would only hurt the ‘infidels.’ However, the fact that Islamic believers are still involved in the operation is problematic,’ he added.

‘For Hezbollah, counterfeit medicine solves this religious issue,’ Ganor said.

‘An additional explanation for the Lebanese organization’s change of focus is completely financial. The profit to be made from distributing medication is higher than the one made in the drug business,’ Ganor said.

He estimated that ‘the profit was anywhere between 10 million to hundreds of millions of dollars a year.'” Read more.

By Penny Starr, CNS News – “(CNSNews.com) – A survey conducted by a coalition of religious organizations shows that the number of mosques in the United States has grown by 74 percent in the past 11 years – up from 1,209 in 2001 to 2,106 in 2011.

The statistics were released earlier this year by Faith Communities Today (FACT), which is affiliated with the Hartford Seminary’s Hartford Institute for Religion Research.

The survey also reveals where those mosques exist, including the 10 states with the largest number of mosques – New York (257), California (246), Texas (166), Florida (118), Illinois (109), New Jersey (109), Pennsylvania (99), Michigan (77), Georgia (69) and Virginia (62).

Vermont has the least number of mosques, with one located in that state.

The survey also shows that most mosques are located in metropolitan areas, with Greater New York City ranked No. 1 with 192 mosques. Southern California (120), Greater Chicago (90), Greater Philadelphia (63) and Greater Detroit (63) rounded out the top five metropolitan areas for mosque population.” Read more.

The administration’s efforts, delayed by Egypt’s political turmoil and by wariness in Washington about new leaders emerging from its first free elections, gained new urgency in recent weeks, even as the United States risks losing influence and investment opportunities to countries like China, which President Mohamed Morsi chose for his first official visit outside of the Middle East.

In addition to the debt assistance, the administration has thrown its support behind a $4.8 billion loan being negotiated between Egypt and the International Monetary Fund. Last week, it dispatched the first of two delegations to work out details of the proposed debt assistance, as well as $375 million in financing and loan guarantees for American financiers who invest in Egypt and a $60 million investment fund for Egyptian businesses.

The assistance underscores the importance of shoring up Egypt at a time of turmoil and change across the Middle East, from the relatively peaceful uprisings in Egypt and Tunisia to the still-unfinished transition in Libya, and from the showdown over Iran’s nuclear program to the war in Syria. Given Egypt’s influence in the Arab world, the officials said, its economic recovery and political stability could have a profound influence on other nations in transition and ease wariness in Israel about the tumultuous political changes under way.” Read more.

While both genders are affected, statistics from the state-run civil registration organisation show the phenomenon to be more prevalent among girls. Some families are said to be marrying off their daughters to older men to pay off debts.

An Iranian NGO, the Society For Protecting The Rights of The Child, said 43,459 girls aged under 15 had married in 2009, compared with 33,383 three years previously. In 2010, 716 girls younger than 10 had wed, up from 449 the previous year, according to the organisation.

Its spokesman, Farshid Yazdani, blamed deepening poverty for the development, which he said was more common in socially backward rural areas often afflicted with high levels of illiteracy and drug addiction.

‘Financial poverty of the families leads to children’s marriages. However, cultural poverty and ignorance is also an element,’ Mr Yazdani told the semi-official Mehr news agency.

He said increasing child marriages were accompanied by a correspondingly high teenage divorce rate. Some 15,000 females aged 15-19 divorced their husbands every year between 2007 and 2010.

The statistics will fuel criticism that Iran’s Islamic legal code allows children, especially girls, to be married at an inappropriately early age.” Read more.

By Aaron Klein – “NEW YORK – The Obama administration has asked the Palestinian Authority to delay its bid to unilaterally declare a state at the United Nations until after November’s presidential election, a senior PA official told WND.

The official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the request was passed to PA President Mahmoud Abbas’ office by the U.S. Consulate in Jerusalem earlier this month.

The official said the PA has not yet made a decision about the timing of its application with the U.N. General Assembly for accepting ‘Palestine’ as a non-member state. The official, however, did indicate Abbas is inclined toward waiting until after the U.S. presidential election.

Any U.N. push by the PA prior to the election would thrust the Obama administration into the position of having to deal with the U.N. statehood question in the middle of an election.

Last September, the PA failed to secure enough votes to declare a state at the U.N. Security Council after the U.S. played a key role in scuttling the statehood attempt. The PA pledged to take a similar request to the General Assembly, where it expects to garner the support of more than 130 countries.

Any General Assembly recognition of a state would be considered mostly symbolic. Still, it would be a step toward possible future Security Council approval which would grant full recognition of a state.” Read more.
