By Nida Nida, Asian Human Rights Commission – “It was spine-chilling for Pakistanis to hear news of the grandfather who killed his daughter and his own grandchildren only for protecting the so-called honour of the family. The crime was that the daughter had married a man of her own choice, and not that of the head of her family. The father was so vindictive he waited five years to take revenge for his ‘honour’. He was quite satisfied after taking his revenge on the grand children, who had nothing to do with their mother’s decision to marry of her own choice. He didn’t stop there either. He also killed two young men, brothers of the groom, as he held them responsible too for dishonouring his prestige.

Ms. Shahnaz Tahir, resident of Tara Singh village in Depalpur, Okara district, Punjab Province, was brutally murdered by her father and his henchmen on the night of 22nd July. Shahnaz had tied the knot with Mr. Tahir Sarwar five years ago. She eloped with Tahir, an action which brought social stigma to her family. His father vowed to kill his daughter, following a practice understood to be traditional.

Tahir, after marriage, left his home town along with his wife and lived in another city due to fear of honor killing. After five years of marriage, they decided to visit their parents, thinking that now their parents would accept them and their innocence. But when daughter and his son-in-law arrived at the house, Shahnaz’s father opened fire with weapons, and as a result Shahnaz, her husband Tahir Sarwar, and their two children, Adnan and Ramsha, and their two brothers-in-law, Mr. Zahid and Mr. Nawaz, were all killed. After the massacre Shahnaz’s father was satisfied and opted to run away with his henchmen. A case has been filed with the police and, as per usual, the investigation continues.” Read more.

Pakistan Teen Sisters Murdered In ‘Honour Killing’ Over Video Of Them Dancing In The Rain – “Two teenage girls have been shot dead in an apparent honour killing in Pakistan after a video was circulated showing them dancing in the rain. The girls, aged 15 and 16, are seen running around wearing traditional dress, covered in green and purple headscarves, outside their stone bungalow in the town of Chilas, in the far north of the country… Their mother was also killed.” Read more.

Almost 1,000 Pakistani Women Were Murdered Last Year For Allegedly Dishonoring Their Families – “The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) released its annual report on Thursday, and tucked in among the stories of murdered journalists and liberal anti–blasphemy law activists, general intimidation, and overcrowded jails was this horrifying statistic: At least 943 women were murdered in familial ‘honor killings,’ an increase from the 791 the year before.” Read more.

First it was the appearance of burqa-free joggers, now it’s the look of expectant mothers. According to this enlightened Islamic thinker, permitting the sight of a pregnant belly in public is somehow a repugnant transgression. But killing Jews and Christians and anyone else deemed offensive is a holy delight …

ANSAMed – “Islamic thinker Omer Tugrul Inancer in a TV program exhorted pregnant women not to show themselves in public, sparking protests from secular Turks and opposition politicians, Hurriyet online reported.

‘It is against our civilization to use fanfare to announce a pregnancy. Pregnant women also should not go around in public with those bellies. It’s not aesthetic’, Inancer said on public TRT 1 TV channel. ”After seven or eight months, future mothers should only leave the house by car with their husbands to get some fresh air, and only in the evening. Instead we see them all over television. It’s unpleasant. This is not realism, it’s immorality”. The program presenter thanked him with ‘May God listen to you’. Secular Turks immediately took to social media, with #Omer Tugrul Inancer trending instantly. Activists have called for a protest on Istanbul’s Istiklal Avenue, near Taksim Square, with a pillow under their clothes in solidarity with pregnant women. ‘They must stop interfering with women in this country. If they could, they would rule on the very air they breathe’, thundered Aylin Nazliaka, a Social Democrat.

‘Inancer says it is unpleasant to see pregnant women on the street. But isn’t it unpleasant hearing the premier say women must have at least three children?’ protested secular nationalist Mehmet Oktay, accusing TRT of having become a mere mouthpiece of the Islamic government. Islamist Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan has more than once called on Turkish women to have at least three children in the name of national growth, berating abortion and cesareans.” Read more.

The Copenhagen Post – “Employees of a kebab meat retailer were assaulted yesterday after a tabloid revealed that it had sold beef that contained traces of pork to numerous kebab shops.

Several young men entered the premises of Tayyib Food in the western Copenhagen suburb of Taastrup and assaulted the director and another employee. The victims had to be taken to an area A&E to be treated for their wounds.

‘They just start hitting us while they shouted and screamed that we had sold them pork and that they had eaten pork because of us,’ the company’s director told Ekstra Bladet.

Deputy police commissioner Brian Christensen from North Zealand Police confirmed the incident.

‘A little after 2pm we received a call from the business that four or five young men had visited their office, shouted at them and assaulted two people,’ Christensen told Ekstra Bladet, adding that the incident was likely directly related to Ekstra Bladet’s reporting.

Ekstra Bladet tested meat at nine kebab shops and found that four of the samples contained traces of pork. In one case more than one percent of the meat was pork.” Read more.

AFP/Reuters – “A leading opposition figure and critic of Tunisia’s ruling Islamists, Mohamed Brahmi, has been shot dead by unknown gunmen near the capital Tunis.

The interior ministry, cited by the official TAP news agency, said Mr Brahmi, a 58-year-old MP and vocal critic of Tunisia’s ruling Islamists, was assassinated as he left home.

‘Mohamed Brahmi, general coordinator of the Popular Movement and member of the National Constituent Assembly, was shot dead outside his home in Ariana,’ Watanya state television reported.

Watanya said Mr Brahmi was struck by a hail of 11 bullets fired from point-blank range.

‘He was riddled with bullets in front of his wife and children,’ Mohsen Nabti, a fellow member of the small leftist movement, said in a tearful account aired on Tunisian radio.

Shortly after the shooting, thousands of people protested in Sidi Bouzid, the birthplace of the Tunisian revolution, witnesses said.

‘Thousands have taken to the streets, people have blocked roads and set tyres alight,’ Sidi Bouzid resident Mehdi Horchani said.

‘People are very angry.’

The February 6 assassination of Chokri Belaid, another opposition figure, in front of his home sparked a political crisis in Tunisia.

Condemning the latest killing, lawyer Mabrouk Korchid said that Mr Brahmi was ‘assassinated in cold blood on the day that Tunisia is marking’ the 56th anniversary of the republic’s declaration.” Read more.

Australian Muslims Carrying Jihadist Flags

9 News National – “A bomb found behind a Sydney police station and linked to last year’s Muslim riots could have been deadly if it had detonated, police say.

Officers are following a number of ‘very strong leads’ as they investigate online threats against police that refer to the explosive device.

Counter terrorism commander Peter Dean said the threats seemed to link the bomb to last year’s Islamic protests in Hyde Park.

‘There’s a comment in the Facebook blogs and also in the email that talks about protests in Sydney so there is an assumption that there’s some link there,’ he told reporters in Sydney on Thursday.

The hand-sized device was found in the rear car park of Campsie Police Station on Tuesday afternoon.

An inspection by the bomb squad established that the contraption contained explosives but had been constructed in a way so that it could not detonate.

Commander Dean says the device could have been deadly if it had exploded.

‘If it had been constructed properly and it had detonated it would have been very dangerous to somebody standing nearby’,’ Commander Dean told reporters in Sydney on Thursday.

‘It also could have created a shrapnel effect with objects around it like the fence and the glass windows of the station, which could have caused damage or injury.’

It is not clear whether the device was specifically designed not to explode, he said.” Read more.
