One of the politicians suggested sending special forces in to destroy Ethiopia’s dam across the Blue Nile. Another called for Egypt to support rebel groups fighting the Ethiopian government, while another suggested sending jet fighters to intimidate the Ethiopians. Apparently they were not informed that a last-minute decision was made to broadcast the meeting on live television …

By Tufail Ahmad, The New Indian Express – “Islamism is a cultural and political movement aimed at eradicating secular and democratic ethos of a society in a bid to pave the way for Islamic ascendancy. It introduces exhibitionist religiosity in people’s lives: there is no issue if a woman wears a burqa, but the problem is a body of religious and political ideas that makes her choose such a dress code. Subsequently, these ideas begin to strike at the roots of individual liberty, women’s freedom, rights of non-Muslims and a free press. The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language defines Islamism as an ‘Islamic revivalist movement, often characterised by moral conservatism, literalism, and the attempt to implement Islamic values in all spheres of life’. It is pertinent here to look at recent examples of how Islamism unfolds in everyday life.

In 2010, Islamists in Kerala chopped off the hand of college lecturer T J Joseph for setting a question paper which they deemed as disrespecting Prophet Muhammad. In 2011, Islamists led by Syed Ahmed Bukhari forced an exhibition on the ‘Koran in 53 languages’, organised by Ahmadiyya Jamaat in Delhi, to be shut. Not long ago, actor-producer Kamal Hassan was compelled by Islamists in Tamil Nadu to edit his movie Vishwaroopam for showing that jihadists recited Koranic verses before launching attacks. In May, tens of thousands of Bangladeshis led by Islamist group Hefajat-e-Islam marched through Dhaka, demanding stricter blasphemy laws. Pakistani media is full of reports of Hindu girls being converted to Islam forcibly, Christians being accused of blasphemy, homes and mosques of Ahmadi Muslims being vandalised, Shias being declared infidels and murdered.

In Egypt, Islamists are targeting Christians through lawsuits, accusing them of blaspheming Islam, and liberal Muslims are quitting government jobs. In Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula, Islamists killed a man for selling alcohol recently. In Tunisia, Islamists desecrated Jewish cemeteries, and attacked art galleries and cinemas. In Turkey, Islamists stabbed couples who kissed in an Ankara metro station recently to protest against moral policing by Turkish authorities. To make a point, Turkey is building a $100-million mega mosque in America. Jordan is witnessing public demonstrations by Islamists. In a British prison, an Islamist inmate recruited two others to beat up guards in May. In all these cases, there is a single binding factor: Islam. The jihadists of Al-Qaeda variety and Islamists share the same ideological objectives, with the only distinction being that the former are armed and consider themselves fighting on a battlefield against infidels. Their goal is: establishing Sharia rule. Islamism is a softer face of jihadists, sometimes masquerading as liberal Islam in our midst.

Driven by an ideological longing to revive the glory of Islamic caliphate, Islamists are open to using Western tools of election, constitution and the rule of law in introducing Islam in a country’s politics, governance, literature, culture and architecture. Their tactic is to win an election, re-write a country’s constitution to make it compliant with Islam and begin Islamising.” Read more.

By JOE HARRIS, Courthouse News Service – “JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (CN) – Gov. Jay Nixon vetoed a bill that would make it illegal for Missouri to enforce any foreign law or legal decision ‘repugnant or inconsistent’ with Missouri or U.S. law.

Nixon, a Democrat, said that in the Legislature’s zeal to address an imaginary problem, it created a real one for parents seeking foreign adoptions.

The bill did not specify Islamic Sharia law, but it was part of a movement by right-wing lawmakers in more than 20 states who have supported similar bills.

Nixon’s written veto message said the bill could create a chilling effect on international adoptions by Missouri families.

Nixon said it also could invite retaliation from a foreign country by denying all adoptions to Missourians.

Missourians adopted more than 5,850 foreign children from 1999 to 2011, Nixon’s office said.

State Sen. Brian Nieves, R-Washington, said there was nothing in the bill to endanger foreign adoptions.

‘If he would have said the bill might cause an invasion of flying armadillos, that would have been just as valid,’ Nieves told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Nieves said he is considering whether to seek an override. If he does not, he said, he will reintroduce the bill, with language protecting foreign adoptions.

The bill passed the Senate by 24-9 vote and the House by 109-41.

If those votes stood in an override attempt, the Senate would have one more yes vote than needed and the House would have exactly the amount needed to override a veto.” Source – Courthouse News Service.

Soon, the Saudis will have ‘unrestricted’ access to U.S. airspace, according to the U.S. State Department website:

“The United States-Saudi Arabia Open Skies agreement will, following a transition period, permit unrestricted air service by the airlines of both countries between and beyond the other’s territory, eliminating restrictions on how often the carriers fly, the kind of aircraft they use and the prices they charge. This agreement will allow for the strengthening and expansion of our strong trade and tourism links with Saudi Arabia, benefitting U.S. and Saudi Arabian businesses and travelers by expanding opportunities for air services and encouraging vigorous price competition by airlines, while preserving our commitments to aviation safety and security. …”

CNS News notes that ‘the agreement means Saudi airlines may fly from any point in the kingdom to any point in the United States, and that U.S. airlines may fly from any point here to any airport in Saudi Arabia.’

U.S. Ambassador to Saudi Arabia James B. Smith and Dr. Faisal bin Hamad Al-Sugair, Saudi Arabia’s Deputy Director of the General Authority of Civil Aviation, signed the deal on May 28.

The agreement, which the U.S. has with approximately 100 other nations, is expected to be fully implemented in three years, according to CNS.” Source – The Washington Times.

Two stories from Michigan tell the tale.

From a CAIR press release:

The Michigan chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-MI) said today that a Detroit-area school district has apologized for handing out permission slips for Bible study classes to elementary school students.CAIR-MI sent a letter to Roseville Public Schools after receiving a complaint from two parents of children who attend Huron Park Elementary School about distribution by teachers of permission slips for the Bible classes at a local Baptist church.

CAIR Executive Director Dawus Walid wrote in a letter to the school district, “School staff and teachers are not to serve as advocates for one particular religion or congregation within a religion by passing out slips inviting parents to give permission for their children to attend religious instruction.”

But that’s precisely what CAIR sought in the nearby Dearborn district.

The Arab American News reported that CAIR staff ‘recently met with Dearborn Public Schools Superintendent Brian Whiston to discuss concerns from some parents regarding prayer accommodations in Dearborn Public Schools.

‘Dearborn Public Schools has implemented a policy which fully accommodates student-led prayer in all the schools, as well as unexcused absences for students who leave early on Fridays for Jumu’ah prayers. CAIR-MI is currently in discussion with Melvindale Public Schools to get similar accommodations for students that are now in place for Dearborn Public Schools.’

So Muslims can conduct religious activities within a public school, but Christians can’t go off-site to receive voluntary Bible lessons? What’s wrong with this picture?

Maj. Nidal Hasan said Tuesday his defense will explain that he killed 13 people in the 2009 shooting rampage because soldiers were about to deploy to Afghanistan. He says he was trying to prevent the imminent death of Taliban fighters.A ‘defense of others’ strategy requires defendants to prove they killed a person or people to protect others from immediate danger or death.

Hasan, who’s representing himself at his murder trial, is seeking a three-month delay. The judge may rule Wednesday, delaying jury selection until at least Monday.

Egypt: Christian Man Sentenced To Year Of Hard Labor In Prison For ‘Ridiculing’ The Qur’an

A non-Muslim is convicted for ridiculing a Muslim “holy” book that itself openly ridicules every other non-Muslim holy book on the face of the planet that disagrees with it. One would be inclined to conclude that the hypocrisy of Islamic jurisprudence knows no limits but, then again, we’re talking about a court system that is largely influenced by the Qur’an itself, a book that calls Christians “infidels who blaspheme” and the “firewood of hell” while Muslims are “the best of peoples evolved for mankind” …

By Associated Press – “ASSIUT, Egypt — An Egyptian court has convicted a Coptic Christian lawyer in the southern province of Assiut on charges of blasphemy and sentenced him to one year in prison with hard labor.

The verdict against Roman Murad Saad was handed down on Saturday. It’s the latest in a surge of blasphemy cases following Egypt’s 2011 uprising.

Saad was sentenced in absentia. If he’s arrested or surrenders to authorities, he will be given a retrial and will have to pay 10,000 Egyptians pounds (around $1,400) in fines.

Court officials say Saad was found guilty of ridiculing Islam’s holy book, the Quran, at a lawyers’ union library. No further details were immediately available in the case.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to media.” Source – The Washington Times.

Afghanistan: Nearly 100 School Girls Poisoned By Suspected Islamists In Gas Attack

RAWA News – “Some 97 girls from two schools in northern Afghanistan have reportedly been hospitalized after falling sick as a result of suspected gas poisoning.

In Maimana, the capital of Faryab province, a total of 77 girls from the same school were taken to hospital on Saturday afternoon after they fell ill, Afghan Pajhwok news agency reported on Sunday.

‘When the girls started falling unconscious, our teacher saw a man fleeing to the school’s orchard,’ the agency quoted one of the students from the Jamshidi School. The girls also asked the government to step up security around schools and punish those behind ‘poisoning children.’

Another similar incident occurred the same day in the town of Behsud, where 20 girls in a local secondary school fell ill for unknown reason. All of them were also taken to hospital for treatment – their condition is non-threatening.

Police, who searched the building, said they found no suspicious objects that could cause health problems among the girls. They do not rule out heat and the unhygienic conditions that the children endure, as a reason.

However, one of the girls who fell sick said that there was ‘bad smell’ in the classroom when they got there in the morning and just an hour later several girls fainted. She pointed out that serious attention is given to cleanliness in her school.

Education Director Abdul Ghafoor linked the illness to fears among schoolchildren about gas attacks.

These two incidents are the latest in a string of suspicious cases when dozens of girls were simultaneously falling sick. Similar cases were reported in May in Faryab and Balkh provinces where 80 and 150 girls respectively fell ill after alleged gas attacks on their schools.

In April, 74 girls were hospitalized when they became ill after noting a gas smell in the air in their school in the Taluqan, the capital of the Takhar Province.” Read more.

He also told followers that Michael Adebolajo, accused of killing Lee in Woolwich, South London, is ‘a nice man’.

Police have repeatedly failed to arrest Choudary over his inflammatory outbursts.

Vile Choudary told his followers Lee deserves no sympathy — but insisted those accused of his barbaric murder are martyrs.

The extremist preacher was caught on film claiming Drummer Lee, hacked to death in the street, would be tortured in hell for not being Muslim.

He added: ‘Allah said very clearly in the Koran ‘Don’t feel sorry for the non-Muslims.’

‘So as an adult non-Muslim, whether he is part of the Army or not part of the Army, if he dies in a state of disbelief then he is going to go to the hellfire.

‘That’s what I believe so I’m not going to feel sorry for non-Muslims.

‘We invite them to embrace the message of Islam. If they don’t, then obviously if they die like that they’re going to the hellfires.’

Choudary, filmed speaking on Friday at his office near Walthamstow mosque in East London, refused to condemn Lee’s alleged killers.

France: Muslim Man In Toulon Jailed For Racial Hatred Against White Man, ‘You Dirty White … This Is A Place For Arabs’

The Local – “A court in the southern city of Toulon sentenced a local man to a year in prison this week, with nine months suspended, after he racially abused a white man and later attacked him.

The assailant, aged in his thirties and of north African origins, was found to have shouted ‘You dirty white, I’m going to smash you. This is a place for Arabs,’ at the victim, who was in a carpark with five friends, both male and female, on the night of May 10th.

The attacker, accompanied by his own entourage and already drunk, according to TF1 television, then punched and head-butted two of the group, who were all aged in their twenties.

Police were called to the scene and arrested the assailant.

A court in Toulon on Monday convicted the thirty-something of collective assault and public injury, the latter relating to his racist abuse.

He was sentenced to a year in prison, but will only serve three months, after the court put him on probation for nine months.

This is only the latest incident of ‘anti-white racism’ to hit France.” Read more.

A Kingdom Divided: World’s Most Influential Sunni Cleric Calls For Global Jihad Against Non-Sunni Muslims In Syria

By Richard Spencer, The Telegraph – “Yusef al-Qaradawi, who is based in Qatar and has been a leading voice supporting the Arab Spring, warned that Iranian Shia were trying to ‘eat’ Sunni Muslims, who are a majority in the Muslim world.

He referred to Alawites, the followers of the Muslim sect to which President Bashar al-Assad of Syria belongs, as being ‘worse infidels than Christians or Jews’. He also used the deliberately contemptuous term ‘Nusayris’ when talking about them.

He was particularly critical of the roles played by Iran, which is largely Shia, and the Lebanon Shia militia Hizbollah whose name translates as Party of God but which he called ‘Party of Satan’, in supporting the Assad regime.

‘There is no common ground between the two sides because the Iranians, especially conservatives, want to eat the Sunni people,’ he said.

The Syrian opposition is dominated, like Syria itself, by Sunni Muslims, but also includes a number of Christians, Alawites and other minorities.

However, Alawite militias loyal to the Assads have been responsible for sectarian attacks on Sunni villages, while there are also increasing reports of sectarian attacks by militant Sunni jihadists, many of whom regard the Shia and Alawites as heretics.

In recent days, a number of Shia shrines have been attacked and desecrated in rebel-held territory, including the tombs of Ammar ibn Yasir in Raqqa and of Hujr bin Uday al-Kindi near Damascus.

Eritrea: Christian Persecution Is Now ‘At Its Highest Level Ever And Getting Worse’

By Timothy Fowler, EN – “A Christian leader in Eritrea says that religious persecution in the northeast African country ‘is at its highest level ever and getting worse,’ World Watch Monitor (WWM), the news outlet of Open Doors, a Christian charity reports.

WWM reports the stories of Christians around the world under pressure for their faith.

It indicated that the leader’s name would not be used because of security reasons.

The total number of Christians arrested in Eritrea this year has risen to 191 after the detention of 37 students from the College of Arts and Sciences Adi Kihe and five men from the Church of the Living God in Asmara, according to WWM.

Up to 3,000 Christians are imprisoned because of their faith in Eritrea.

Open Doors ranks the country 10th on its World Watch List and gives it the designation of ‘extreme persecution’ on its scale.

Voice of the Martyrs (VOM) say many prisoners are held in metal shipping containers without ventilation or toilet facilities.

Eritrea allowed religious freedom until 2002, when the government announced it would only recognize religious groups: Sunni Islam, the Roman Catholic Church, the Orthodox Church of Eritrea, and the Lutheran-affiliated Evangelical Church of Eritrea, said VOM.

Since then, it says the Eritrean government has jailed, tortured and jailed numerous Eritreans for political and religious reasons.

As a result, Eritrea has been called ‘the North Korea of Africa’.” Read more.

He had gone there to meet and talk with local Muslims after speaking about Christianity at the Eritrean Embassy for three days. The women were reportedly abducted in the Egyptian capital by men purporting to be police officers. The women, aged between 20 and 32, claim to have travelled in a white taxi that was stopped by men in police uniforms, who opened the vehicle and sprayed an unknown substance into their faces that caused them to lose consciousness.
