The Daily Star – “ISIS beheaded a Syrian imam Thursday for ‘insulting God,’ an activist group said.

‘The IS executed the imam of a mosque from the village of Abu Khuyut near Hasakeh city [in northeastern Syria] at dawn Thursday,’ said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, using an alternative name for the group.

The Britain-based Observatory added that three of the man’s sons were ISIS fighters, and that it was the first time the jihadis executed a religious official for this reason.

The man was detained after watching a video on executions carried out by ISIS and cursing because God had permitted them, Observatory director Rami Abdel Rahman said.

ISIS carries out near-daily executions in the territories of Syria and Iraq that it controls.

Originating in Iraq, it appeared in Syria’s civil war in spring 2013, and has since committed some of the conflict’s worst abuses.” Source – The Daily Star.

FOX News – “French police were confronting two separate — but apparently related — hostage situations Friday, after a jihadist couple suspected of killing a cop a day earlier stormed a Paris deli, killing two and taking as many as five prisoners even as the suspects Wednesday’s massacre at a Paris satirical magazine were holed up in a printing plant 25 miles north of the city, authorities said.

Authorities feared all four suspects, who may know one another, are bent on going out as martyrs, and potentially killing hostages and police officers in the process. The fast-moving developments came as nearly 90,000 police and military personnel were deployed to bring the terror crisis that has gripped the European nation since late Wednesday morning, when a pair of brothers conducted a bloody commando-style raid on the offices of Charlie Hebdo, a weekly satirical magazine that had angered Muslim radicals by repeatedly publishing images of Prophet Muhammed.

‘Even though these guys are a bunch of savages, the negotiators are going to be trying to calm things down … the less volatile things are, the safer it is for everybody,’ James Alvarez, who has worked as a consultant for Scotland Yard and the New York Police Department, told Sky News as the dueling situations unfolded.

The hostage takers in the second case, at a kosher grocery store in eastern Paris, were identified by police as Amedy Coulibaly and Hayat Boumeddiene, a couple suspected in the murder Thursday of Paris Police Officer Clarissa Jean-Philippe as she attended to a routine traffic accident in the city. Authorities believe the case is related to Wednesday’s attack, which 12 people, including two cops, dead at the publication Charlie Hebdo, which has angered Muslim radicals by publishing images of Prophet Muhammed.” Read more.

Welch, USA Today – “Authorities identified three suspects in a deadly shooting attack on a satirical newspaper that killed 12 people Wednesday as thousands jammed a public square for an evening vigil honoring victims of France’s deadliest terror attack in a half century.

Two of those killed were police officers, one of them shot dead on a sidewalk outside the newspaper. Eight journalists were among the victims.

The suspects are two brothers — Said, 34, and Cherif Kouachi, 32, both French nationals — and Hamyd Mourad, 18, whose nationality wasn’t known, a Paris police official told the Associated Press. He spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly.

The youngest suspect surrendered at a police station in Charleville-Mezieres, a small town in France’s eastern Champagne region, Paris prosecutor’s spokeswoman Agnes Thibault-Lecuivre said. French police early Thursday released photos of the brothers they were seeking, saying they should be considered armed and dangerous.

French news media reported late Wednesday that a major police operation was taking place around an apartment building in Reims, about 90 miles northeast of Paris.

The brothers were born in Paris of Algerian descent. Cherif was sentenced to three years in prison on terrorism charges in May 2008. Both brothers returned from Syria this summer.

At least 15,000 gathered at the Place de la République for a vigil after the three gunmen, wearing hoods and armed with Kalashnikov automatic rifles, stormed the offices of Charlie Hebdo, shouting Islamic phrases and killing 12 people. The publication is a satirical newspaper that has caricatured the prophet Mohammed…

President Francois Hollande called the attack a terrorist act ‘of exceptional barbarism,’ and said other attacks have been thwarted in France in recent weeks. Fears have been running high in France and elsewhere in Europe that jihadis returning from conflicts in Syria and Iraq will stage attacks at home.

Cherif Kouachi was well known to French law enforcement. At 26, he was sentenced to three years in prison with 18 months suspended for criminal association with a terrorist enterprise for his conviction in 2008 as part of a group of seven men.

Prosecutors said the group recruited French Muslims to fight for al-Qaeda in Iraq. The group, known as the 19th Arrondissement Network for the working class Paris district where it was based, allegedly recruited young men, arranged for weapons training and helped them travel though Syria to Iraq. Police arrested Kouachi in January 2005, days before he allegedly planned to travel to Syria.” Read more.

Channel 4 News (Nigeria) – “A new assault on the town of Baga, in the north of the country, may have left 2,000 people dead, according to official Musa Alhaji Bukar, speaking to the BBC.

Militants were reported to have attacked and burned down the entire town yesterday, after having overpowered government troops on a base on Saturday.

A district head speaking to Reuters put the death toll at more than 100, with witnesses saying dozens may have been killed when insurgents began to shoot indiscriminately and burning buildings on Tuesday and Wednesday in attacks on the civilian population.

Amhed Khalifa, a senator for Borno state where Baga is situated, told NBC News that -10-to-20- other communities in the country’s northeast had been razed over the past five days of violence and confirmed that more than 2,000 remain unaccounted for.

There were reports in Nigeria’s media yesterday that the soldiers from Niger and Chad had withdrawn their troops from a Multinational Joint Taskforce based at the military base outside the town following the attack.

Half of the town of Baga was burned by Boko Haram militants in 2013, with almost 200 people killed.

2,000 people were killed by the militant group in total in the whole of last year.” Read more.

Read the Old Testament and it becomes apparent that it describes much violence and war that took place in the past between Israel and those who sought to oppress and destroy the Hebrew children. Unlike the Bible, however, the Qur’an doesn’t simply describe violence and wars. It calls upon all followers to continue down the same path today …

Qur’an Sura 4:95, “Not equal are those believers [Muslims] who sit at home and receive no hurt, and those who strive and fight in the cause of Allah with their goods and their persons. Allah hath granted a grade higher to those who strive and fight with their goods and persons than to those who sit at home …”

Qur’an Sura 8:39, “And fight with them [non-Muslims] until … religion should be only for Allah …”

By Raymond Ibrahim, Gatestone Institute – “News recently emerged that Russia was banning key Islamic scriptures — including Sahih Bukhari — on the charge that they promote ‘exclusivity [supremacism] of one of the world’s religions,’ namely Islam; or, in the words of a senior assistant to the prosecutor of Tatarstan Ruslan Galliev, ‘a militant Islam’ which ‘arouses ethnic, religious enmity.’

If Sahih Bukhari, a nine-volume hadith collection compiled in the 9th century and seen by Sunni Muslims as second in importance only to the Koran itself is being banned for inciting hostility, where does that leave the Koran?

After all, if Sahih Bukhari contains pro-terrorism statements attributed to the prophet of Islam and calls to kill Muslims who leave Islam, the Koran, Islam’s number one holy book itself is full of intolerance and calls for violence against non-believers. A tiny sampling of proclamations from Allah follows:

• ‘I will cast terror into the hearts of the unbelievers, so strike [them] upon the necks [behead them] and strike from them every fingertip’’ (Koran 8:12).
• ‘Fight those among the People of the Book [Christians and Jews] who do not believe in Allah nor the Last Day, who do not forbid what Allah and His Messenger have forbidden, and who do not embrace the religion of truth [Islam], until they pay the jizya with willing submissiveness and feel themselves utterly subdued’ (Koran 9:29).
• ‘Then, when the sacred months have passed, slay the idolaters wherever you find them — seize them, besiege them, and make ready to ambush them!’ (Koran 9:5).
• ‘Fighting has been enjoined upon you [Muslims] while it is hateful to you’ (2:216).

That Islam’s core texts incite violence and intolerance has many ramifications, for those willing to go down this path of logic.

For example, as I argued more fully here, although Muslims around the world, especially in the guise of the 57-member state Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), continue to push for the enforcement of ‘religious defamation’ laws in the international arena, one great irony is lost, especially on Muslims: if such laws would ban movies and cartoons that defame Islam, they would also, by logical extension, need to ban the religion of Islam itself — the only religion whose core texts actively defame other religions.

Consider what the word ‘defamation’ means: ‘to blacken another’s reputation’ and ‘false or unjustified injury of the good reputation of another, as by slander or libel,’ are typical dictionary definitions.

What, then, do we do with Islam’s core religious texts — not just Sahih Bukhari but the Koran itself, which slanders, denigrates and blackens the reputation of other religions?

Consider Christianity alone: Koran 5:73 declares that ‘Infidels are they who say God [or ‘Allah’] is one of three,’ a reference to the Christian Trinity; Koran 5:72 says ‘Infidels are they who say God is the Christ, [Jesus] son of Mary’; and Koran 9:30 complains that ‘the Christians say the Christ is the son of God … may Allah’s curse be upon them!’

Surely such verses defame the Christian religion and its central tenets — not to mention create hostility towards its practitioners.

Yet again we have more body parts and chunks of flesh spreading the message of Islam as those still with legs to run are bathed in bullets, all because Boko Haram’s feelings were hurt by a few “corrupt” things being disseminated by the leader of Kano’s Grand Mosque. The mosque’s Emir had reportedly encouraged others to take up arms against Boko Haram’s purveyors of death and destruction. But any call to fight against terrorism was evidently akin to fighting against “Allah” and his messenger of misery. And for many unfortunate attendees, their own Qur’an had a thing or two to say about that …

Qur’an Sura 5:33a, “Surely the only recompense of the ones who war against Allah and His Messenger and diligently endeavor to do corruption in the earth, is that they should be all massacred or crucified, or that their hands and legs should be cut asunder alternately or that they should be exiled from the land …” [Or, in the 21st century, blown to bits and pieces]

Qur’an Sura 48:29, “Mohammed is [Allah’s] apostle. Those who follow him are ruthless to the unbelievers but merciful to one another.”

Sky News – “At least 92 people are feared dead and scores more injured after gunmen and suicide bombers attacked a mosque in northern Nigeria.

Nigerian official Captain Ikechukwu Eze said the blasts occurred at the main mosque in Nigeria’s second-largest city, Kano.

Reuters also reported that gunmen opened fire on worshippers in the attack which analysts said bore the hallmarks of one carried out by Islamist militant group Boko Haram.

Hundreds had been gathering to listen to a sermon from the city’s chief imam and prayers had got under way at around 2pm, local time.

Witness Aminu Abdullahi said: ‘Two bombs exploded, one after the other, in the premises of the Grand Mosque seconds after the prayers had started.’

He said another bomb went off nearby, but reports on the actual number of blasts differed.

The mosque’s leader is the Emir of Kano, the second highest Islamic authority in the country. Reports also varied as to whether he was present at the time.

The Emir, who is also known as Muhammad Sanusi II, said last week at the mosque that people in the north of Nigeria should take up arms against Boko Haram.

The Islamist organisation has been fighting a guerilla war to bring about a hardline Islamic state since 2009.

Boko Haram was responsible for the kidnap of more than 200 teenage girls from a school in the northern town of Chibok in April this year.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the country, more than 1.5 million Nigerians displaced by Boko Haram have been flocking to refugee camps across the country’s northeast, where facilities are overcrowded and there is a shortage of supplies.” Source – Sky News.

By Christine Byers, St. Louis Post Dispatch – “Two men indicted last week on federal weapons charges allegedly had plans to bomb the Gateway Arch — and to kill St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Robert McCulloch and Ferguson Police Chief Tom Jackson — the Post-Dispatch has learned.

Sources close to the investigation were uncertain whether the men had the capability to carry out the plans, although the two allegedly did buy what they thought was a pipe bomb in an undercover law enforcement sting.

The men wanted to acquire two more bombs, the sources said, but could not afford to do it until one suspect’s girlfriend’s Electronic Benefit Transfer card was replenished.

An indictment, with no mention of bombs or killings, was returned in federal court here Nov. 19 and unsealed Fridayupon the arrest of Brandon Orlando Baldwin and Olajuwon Ali Davis. Their addresses and Baldwin’s age were not available; Davis is 22.

The arrest came three days before McCulloch revealed that a grand jury would not indict Ferguson police Officer Darren Wilson in the controversial killing of Michael Brown. The announcement triggered looting and multiple arsons in Ferguson.

The charges say that between Nov. 1 and Nov. 13, at the Cabela’s store in Hazelwood, Baldwin claimed to be buying two Hi-Point .45-caliber pistols for himself when they were really for another person. Brandon also is known as Brandon Muhammad, according to court documents, and Davis now goes by the last name Ali, his attorney said. Each faces a charge of aiding and abetting the making of a false written statement made in connection with a firearms purchase.

The sources said additional charges, reflecting the plot, were expected to be filed. They said Davis was considered the leader of the plot, which police documented on hidden video.” Read more.
