By DAILY MAIL REPORTER – “Al Qaeda committed ‘truly shocking’ human rights abuses including crucifixions and the beheading of an alleged sorceror during its 16 months in control of a southern region of Yemen, a report by Amnesty International claimed today.

The London-based charity has also released a video which appears to show a suspected thief having his hand amputated by the Ansar al-Sharia militia, which seized power of the Abyan governorate in February 2011.

Amnesty said dozens more civilians were then killed during reckless counter-insurgency operations by the Yemeni government as it sought to win back the territory from the Al Qaeda-affiliated group.

The tragedies would ‘haunt Yemen for decades to come’ unless the perpetrators were caught and the families compensated, the charity said.

Amnesty International Middle East and North Africa Director Philip Luther said: ‘Abyan experienced a human rights catastrophe as Ansar al-Sharia and government forces vied for control of the region during 2011 and the first half of 2012.

‘The Yemeni authorities must ensure that a commission of inquiry announced in September covers the truly shocking abuses committed.

‘The tragedy of Abyan will haunt Yemen for decades to come unless those responsible are held to account and victims and their families receive reparations.’

Amnesty’s 55-page report, Conflict in Yemen: Abyan’s Darkest Hour, documents violations of the rules of war during the armed conflict between government forces and Ansar al-Sharia, an Islamist armed group affiliated to al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula.” Read more.

Several thousand protesters had gathered nearby in what they dubbed ‘last warning’ protests against Mursi, who has angered opponents with a November 22 decree that expanded his powers. ‘The people want the downfall of the regime,’ chanted the protesters.

Mursi ignited a storm of unrest in his bid to prevent a judiciary still packed with appointees of ousted predecessor Hosni Mubarak from derailing a troubled political transition.

Riot police had earlier mustered around the palace as activists chanted ‘leave, leave’ and held up Egyptian flags with ‘no to the constitution’ written on them. Other protesters assembled in front of two mosques north of Cairo before marching towards the palace.

‘Many of our national leaders and youth will join us in our marches today,’ said Hussein Abdel Ghany, a spokesman for the opposition coalition. ‘Our marches are against tyranny and the void constitutional decree and we won’t retract our position until our demands are met.'” Read more.

Hundreds Chant ‘Freedom Or We Die!’ During Anti-Muslim Brotherhood Demonstration Outside Mosque – “‘Freedom or we die,’ chanted a crowd of several hundred outside a mosque in the Abbasiyah district. ‘Mohammed Morsi! Illegitimate! Brotherhood! Illegitimate!’ they also yelled, alluding to the fundamentalist Muslim Brotherhood from which Morsi hails. ‘This is the last warning before we lay siege on the presidential palace,’ said Mahmoud Hashim, a 21-year-old student from the city of Suez on the Red Sea. ‘We want the presidential decrees cancelled.'”” Read more.

By BOB UNRUH – “A little less than every five hours, somewhere around the world a Muslim is carrying out a fatal jihadist attack.

These are not the regular beatings and vandalism against Christians, Hindus and Buddhists but religion-oriented attacks in which someone dies at the hand of a member of the ‘religion of peace.’

A website called ‘The Religion of Peace’ has listed more than 20,000 such fatal attacks since Sept. 11, 2001.

As of today, the total was 20,022. The 20,000th came a few days ago when a Jewish woman was cut in pieces in Iran by religious radicals ‘intent on expanding a mosque.’

Some 1,800 deadly Muslim terror attacks happen each year, amounting to about 150 a month and five a day.

The purpose of the website, according to operator Glen Roberts, a pseudonym, is to put the level of violence being inflicted by Muslims in perspective.

‘I started watching [the Council on American-Islamic Relations] in the months after 9/11,’ said Roberts, ‘and I was astonished by the self-absorption. Each day people are maimed and killed explicitly in the name of Islam while this organization complains about headscarves and hurt feelings.

Will he opt to use them against Israel as a last “hurrah” before fleeing in order to invoke a devastating Israeli response upon the rebel’s grand prize of Damascus? Both? …

By Elad Benari, INN – “Engineers working for President Bashar Al-Assad’s regime in Syria have begun combining the two chemical precursors needed to weaponize sarin gas, an American official with knowledge of the situation told Wired.com’s Danger Room on Monday.

International observers are now more worried than they’ve even been that the Damascus government could use its nerve agent stockpile to slaughter its own people, the report said.

The U.S. doesn’t know why the Syrian military made the move, which began in the middle of last week and is taking place in central Syria, nor are they sure why the Assad government is transferring some weapons to different locations within the country, as the New York Times reported on Monday.

‘Physically, they’ve gotten to the point where they can load it up on a plane and drop it,’ the official told Wired.com.

Sarin gas has two main chemical components: isopropanol, popularly known as rubbing alcohol, and methylphosphonyl difluoride. The Assad government has more than 500 metric tons of these precursors, which it ordinarily stores separately, in so-called ‘binary’ form, in order to prevent an accidental release of nerve gas.

Last week, reported Wired.com, that changed. The Syrian military began combining some of the binaries. ‘They didn’t do it on the whole arsenal, just a modest quantity,’ the official said. ‘We’re not sure what’s the intent.’

Back in July, the Assad regime publicly warned that it might use its chemical weapons to stop ‘external’ forces from interfering in Syria’s bloody civil war. The announcement sparked a panic in the intelligence services of the U.S. and its allies, which stepped up their efforts to block shipments of precursors for those weapons from entering the country.

Ahmadinejad and Haniyeh: Brothers of Peace

By KHALED ABU TOAMEH – “‘The time has come for the US and EU to remove Hamas from the list of designated terrorist organizations,’ Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh said Sunday.

Haniyeh’s appeal came during a meeting in Gaza City with a visiting European mission in solidarity with the Palestinians.

‘Hamas and the Palestinian groups are national liberation movements that are defending themselves against Israeli aggression on our people,’ Haniyeh told the delegation.

He also called for prosecuting Israeli leaders ‘for their ongoing crimes against our people, especially the last eight-day aggression [in the Gaza Strip].’

Haniyeh complained that the UN-sponsored investigative report into Operation Cast Lead, which was prepared by South African judge Richard Goldstone, ‘had been shelved by some countries that help the occupation.’

Thousands of people greeted Abbas rapturously upon his return from the United Nations, where the General Assembly granted the PLO, representing the PA, upgraded status as a nonmember observer state.

‘Raise your heads high, because you are Palestinians!’ Abbas told the joyous crowd, waving PA flags in the PA capital of Ramallah, located in Samaria.

‘You have proof that you are stronger than the occupation, because you are Palestinians… stronger than the settlements, because you are Palestinians.

‘We were threatened with punishment and sanctions from various sides,’ Abbas continued, in a reference to attempts by the United States and Israel to dissuade him from proceeding with the application.

‘And if we had listened to those threats we wouldn’t have gone to the U.N.

By Chana Ya’ar, INN – “There are signs of new activity at Syrian chemical weapons sites, Western intelligence officials said, according to The New York Times.

The report, published Saturday, quoted a U.S. intelligence official as saying the regime of President Bashar al-Assad is ‘doing some things that suggest they intend to use the weapons.

‘It’s not just moving stuff around,’ he explained. ‘These are a different kind of activities.’

It is possible Syrian Army forces are preparing to use the weapons in a last-ditch effort to save the government, officials told the paper. However, it is also possible they are simply warning to Western nations about the implications of providing assistance to rebel forces, they added.

Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has said repeatedly that he will not allow an existential risk to the Jewish State. This past summer, Netanyahu said during an interview on the U.S.-based television program ‘Fox News Sunday’ that it is essential to prevent Syrian weapons from falling into the wrong hands.

One major concern is the possibility that part of the Syrian arsenal may be transferred to Lebanon. ‘Could you imagine Hizbullah – the people are conducting with Iran all these terror attacks around the world – could you imagine them having chemical weapons?’ he asked the interviewer.

‘It would be like Al Qaeda having chemical weapons,’ he continued. ‘It’s something that is not acceptable to us, not acceptable to the United States and to any peaceable country in the world.’ Read more.

Rumors: Activity Could Suggest Assad Has Been Killed Or Has Fled – “Middle East sources add rumors were flying around the region Saturday night and Sunday morning that President Bashar Assad had been killed or fled Syria. Neither is confirmed. However, the rebels have in recent days made major strategic gains and begun to turn the tide of war against’s Assad forces.  The new rumors tie in with the suggestive movements of chemical weapons detected by Western intelligence without any indication of their likely target.” Read more.

By John Rosenthal, WND – “While Obama administration sources continue to suggest that the Sept. 11 anti-American attacks in Benghazi were the work of a ‘rogue’ Libyan militia with links to al-Qaida, a new French documentary reveals just how thoroughly and openly the mainstream of last year’s Libyan rebellion was inspired by al-Qaida and its founder, Osama bin Laden.

Filmmaker Kamal Redouani’s ‘The Arab Spring: Springboard for Radicals?’ was first aired in late October on the French pay channel Canal+ and was recently rebroadcast by the Belgian public broadcaster RTBF.

The film documents the resurgence of radical Islamic forces in three of the main countries of the so-called Arab Spring – Tunisia, Libya and Syria – as well as in Lebanon.

As part of the film, Redouani traveled to the Libyan city of Derna, some 150 miles east of Benghazi. While Benghazi was the political capital of last year’s rebellion against the rule of Moammar Gadhafi, Derna was in the many ways the military epicenter of the rebellion. It was in Derna that a leading rebel commander by the name of Abdul-Hakim al-Hasadi is known to have assembled a battalion of some thousand rebel fighters in the early days of the rebellion.

Al-Hasadi was commonly described in American publications, like the New York Times, as the rebel commander in charge of the ‘defense’ of Derna. The description is odd, since Derna was well behind the frontlines for the entirety of the conflict.

The many European reporters who crossed paths with al-Hasadi during the war discovered a different reality: the rebel commander was using Derna as the staging grounds for offensive forays further to the West. On at least two occasions, for instance, al-Hasadi’s forces seized control of the strategic coastal town of Ajdabiya – namely, after NATO bombing had driven back Gadhafi-loyalist Libyan army troops.

According to Kamal Redouani, Derna is today run by al-Hasadi and his family as an Islamic emirate. On arriving at the outskirts of Derna, Redouani and his team were stopped at a roadblock by armed men making sure that no alcohol or unveiled women entered the city.

Associated Press – “NEWARK, N.J. — New Jersey Attorney General Jeffrey Chiesa quietly visited a Newark mosque Friday that had been listed in a secret report by the New York Police Department, and he reassured worshippers that New Jersey officials do not believe certain groups of citizens have lesser rights than others.

Chiesa attended prayer services at Masjid Ibrahim, a modest, single-story mosque set up inside a ramshackle former commercial space in Newark. The mosque was among several in the report by the NYPD, which conducted surveillance of Muslims in New Jersey and elsewhere.

‘It is not tolerable here in New Jersey for us to have people treated differently in this state — period,’ Chiesa said.

The attorney general’s visit was part of an ongoing effort by his office to repair relations between Muslims and New Jersey law enforcement after The Associated Press uncovered the NYPD spying. The NYPD has said its actions were legal and it has the right to travel to other cities in carrying out its duties.

Explaining to mosque-goers that he had only been in office about a month when the NYPD spying came to light, Chiesa said he was there to listen and answer questions from the community. He said he understood how badly he and his family would feel if they had been subjected to spying at their church or made to feel they could not freely practice their religion.” Read more.
