Jerusalem Post – “Home Front Defense Minister Avi Dichter on Sunday warned that the Muslim Brotherhood is co-opting the Arab Spring with the end-goal of creating an Islamic ‘caliphate’ that would span the Middle East.

‘What started in Tunis and continued in Egypt is ongoing in Syria, and will threaten Jordan and other Arab countries,’ Dichter said. ‘The Brotherhood already has an outpost in the Palestinian territories, in the form of Hamas.’

The keynote speaker at the International Institute for Counter-Terrorism’s World Summit, Dichter added that the beyond infiltrating Israel’s neighbors, the Brotherhood’s more long-term goal is to gain control of Saudi Arabia and the Gulf states, where ‘there is already a massive movement of youth devoted to eradicating non-Muslim values from society,’ according to Dichter.

Turning to Syria, Dichter said that so long as President Bashar Assad remains in power, the Brotherhood can not achieve its aims. ‘In Syria, being affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood is tantamount to a death sentence,’ he said. However, Dichter warned that if the embattled Syrian leader were to fall, the Brotherhood could in fact take control of the country, which would have deep repercussions on Syria’s neighbors.

‘Who replace the Assad regime?’ Dichter asked. ‘Will it be the Sunnis? Or the Muslim Brotherhood? And if the Brotherhood takes control, how will this affect Jordan and Lebanon to the west?’

Dichter added that these questions were not abstract, and that Assad’s fall was a foregone conclusion. ‘The question is not whether or not Assad will fall, but rather when, and what will the country look like the day after,’ he said.

Dichter also addressed the Palestinian involvement in the Arab Spring. ‘The Palestinian case is special,’ he said. Recalling an anecdote told to him by an unnamed Arab, Dichter hinted that the Palestinian community is often disconnected from the rest of the Arab world. ‘There are three types of Arabs: Muslim Arabs, Christian Arabs, and Jewish Arabs. The Palestinians are the Jewish Arabs.’

Dichter added: ‘The Palestinians have not yet managed to enjoy the Arab Spring.'” Source – The Jerusalem Post.

By Jamie Doward, The Observer -“A British charity is under scrutiny amid claims some of its funds have ended up in the hands of African terrorists blamed for killing hundreds of people.

Boko Haram, a militant Islamist group in Nigeria with close links to al-Qaida, has targeted churches and Christians as it seeks to spread terror across the country.

The Nigerian media has reported that the country’s state security service, working with local and international agencies, believes money raised by the Al Muntada Trust found its way to Boko Haram.

A charity of that name, which has its headquarters in London, raises money for disaster projects in Africa. It has attracted controversy in the past for giving a platform to radical clerics.

Lord Alton of Liverpool told parliament in July there was evidence Boko Haram carried out 600 murders this year and called for it to be proscribed in the UK as a terror group. Its rise has alarmed Africa experts and prompted concerns of ‘blowback’ for the UK as its supporters return from Nigeria.

Alton raised concerns about Boko Haram’s alleged UK links with the Foreign Office minister, Lord Howell, in July. ‘I can confirm that this has been shared with the Charity Commission and the Metropolitan police,’ Howell told Alton in a recent letter.” Read more.

By Maayana Miskin, INN – “Hundreds of Palestinian Authority Arabs have been assaulting a Jewish village in the Binyamin region since Saturday afternoon, Tatzpit reports.

Residents of the Jewish village of Esh Kodesh reported that the assault began when three men from the community were walking in one of the town’s vineyards on Saturday afternoon, during the Jewish Sabbath.

The men were attacked by a large Arab mob armed with clubs and sticks, residents said. The attackers apparently came from the nearby PA town of Kotzra.

A security team from Esh Kodesh was called to the scene, as were nearby IDF units. The responders encountered hundreds of PA men armed with rocks and other makeshift weapons, and were unable to stop the assault.

‘Children in the village are crying,’ community spokesman Aharon Katzuf told Tatzpit. ‘They can’t sleep because of the screams of ‘Yitbach al Yahud’ [Slaughter the Jews – ed.] and ‘Allahu Akbar.’’

As of Saturday night clashes continued. An IDF spokesperson said, ‘Security forces are at the scene, and the circumstances are being investigated.'” Source – INN.

The centrifuges spinning in Iran are dangerously close to providing these ruthless global terrorists with a nuclear arsenal and protective umbrella. Yet instead of pulling out all the stops to prevent this, Europe is opening its own backyard as a playground. In particular, the European Union continues to define Hizbollah as a charitable and political group, not a terrorist organisation. This is no less ridiculous than describing the Mafia as a chamber of commerce or the Ku Klux Klan as a gentleman’s social club.

While Hizbollah continues to promote extremism and strike targets in the heart of Europe, it has free rein to raise millions from supporters as if it were the Red Cross. Its European rallies attract thousands. Its operatives have ample space to inspire, recruit and train future terrorists. Last month, Hizbollah and Iran carried out the deadliest terrorist act in Europe since 2005, blowing up a bus of Israeli families on holiday in Bulgaria. When asked if this might prompt a change in policy, one EU foreign minister said: ‘Should there be tangible evidence of Hizbollah engaging in acts of terrorism, the EU would consider listing the organisation [as a terrorist group].’

Tangible evidence? Iran and Hizbollah have slaughtered scores of men, women and children in bombings from Argentina to Saudi Arabia to Bulgaria. They have ruthlessly targeted US servicemen, killing hundreds in direct attacks – such as the bombing of a marine barracks in Lebanon in 1983 – and many more through proxies in Iraq and Afghanistan.” Read more.

Flashback: Over 10,000 Hezbollah Fighters Participate In Drill To Overtake Upper Galilee – “A reportedly large Hezbollah military drill held in southern Lebanon is part of an Iranian-orchestrated preparation for a confrontation with Israel, a senior Israeli security analyst said. Over 10,000 Hezbollah fighters participated in the terror organization’s largest military exercise to date last week, which included defensive tactics and ‘preparations to conquer the Upper Galilee,’ Lebanese newspaper Al- Joumhouria reported Thursday morning. ‘This is happening in full coordination with Iran … In his last two speeches, [Hezbollah chief Hassan] Nasrallah indicated that he would join an Iranian counter-strike if Israel struck Iran’s nuclear program.'” Read more.

Indeed, the past can come terribly alive here, and it can turn terribly deadly, again and again, every day.

When representatives from around the world convened in the Iranian capital of Tehran last Thursday for the start of a Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement, an annual meeting of 120 nations that view themselves as not aligned for or against any major powers, the focus was suddenly on 1,300-year-old battles, murders and power struggles. The host was Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, a Shiite. Next to him on the dais was Egypt’s new president, Mohammed Morsi, a Sunni.

Morsi began his opening address with a mention of the Prophet Muhammad, but then continued: ‘May Allah’s blessing be upon our masters Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman and Ali.’

Iranian media immediately took the statement as a provocation. Abu Bakr, Umar and Uthman were Muhammad’s successors after the Prophet’s death in 632. Sunni Muslims venerate them as the first caliphs — but Shiite Muslims consider them usurpers and traitors to the faith, hated figures whose very names should not be spoken. Muhammad’s true successor, Shiites say, was Ali, their first imam, who later fought against the other three before being murdered.

Morsi went on to discuss the present situation in Syria, where Bashar Assad is overseeing the massacre of rebels who are mostly Sunni. Assad and his clique belong to the country’s Alawite minority, which is more closely aligned with the Shiites. ‘The bloodshed will not stop without intervention from outside,’ the Egyptian president declared, saying that Assad’s regime had lost all legitimacy. Morsi, a Sunni, made these statements while sitting next to the Shiite Ahmadinejad, who has been providing the Syrian regime with weapons and now fighters, too.

Morsi must know that any country that intervenes in Syria risks ending up at war with Iran, as well. The frontlines of the conflict between Sunnis and Shiites run through many countries in the Middle East, and those who fan the flames in one part of the region may find themselves under fire in another part entirely.” Read more.

By Elad Benari, INN – “Hundreds of protesters gathered on Wednesday in the main square in Shechem (Nablus), calling for the ouster of Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Salam Fayyad.

The protesters held up signs which read, ‘Go away Fayyad’ and ‘Abbas and Fayyad, your government does not represent us.’ The protesters were also joined by Hamas parliamentarians.

PA Arabs have been protesting over rising food and public transportation prices, and Wednesday’s protest came one day after a demonstration in Hevron, during which protesters burned a puppet made to look like Fayyad. Demonstrations also took place in Bethlehem and Ramallah.

Fayyad said with respect to the public protest that he understood the demonstrators’ frustrations and is aware of the economic difficulties facing the Palestinian Authority. He acknowledged the high rate of unemployment and the fact that the government financial safety net is not enough to help needy families.

Fayyad pledged to work vigorously to increase social assistance to the needy, but said that the economic problems of the Palestinian Authority are mainly due to external factors, such as the rise in food prices and the Israeli ‘occupation’ which prevents economic growth. He called on donor countries to fulfill their obligations to the PA and transfer financial assistance. He also said that financial aid is needed in Jerusalem, to support action against its ‘Judaization.’

The PA government currently faces its worst financial crisis since its 1994 establishment. The crisis has rendered the PA unable to pay employees their salaries or pay off debts it owes to private businesses.

Fayyad warned several months ago that the Palestinian Authority may soon fail financially and cease to exist.” Read more.

The Palestinian militant group has been isolated by Israel, the West — and, previously, by Egypt’s former autocracy — since it wrested control of this seaside territory in 2007. But with the rise of the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood, Hamas — a Brotherhood offshoot — sees new opportunity… Egypt has been urging Fatah [in the West Bank] and Hamas, bitter rivals, to form a unity government that could push for an independent Palestinian state…” Read more.
