Times.am – “Today [the] head of the Armenian science department of ‘Noravanq’ educational foundation, expert on Turkey Alistakes Simavoryan and expert of the same foundation Vahram Hovyan met journalists and referred to the topic of religious intolerance against Christians in Turkey.

According to A. Simavoryan now 120,000 Christians live in Turkey now and 59,000 of them are Armenians. There are also sects in Turkey, for example, [Jehovah’s Witnesses] and Mormons. There are Armenians among them as well.

As the expert noted Turks are afraid that their country may become a Christian state, but according to him [this] is not possible. According to the speaker Turkey will lead anti-Christian politics in coming 30-40 years as well and it will be especially directed to the Armenian Community.

‘The social inquiries in Turkey show that 40% of the population does not want to live with [a] Christian neighbor. And 58% of [the population] does not want to live with [a Jewish] neighbor’, Simavoryan noted.

Expert also noted that [the] Armenian community is on the eve of vanishing in Turkey as a result of [Christian intolerance]. According to him [the] media is very active in this issue. ‘Every action by the Christian Church is presented as [a] negative action. Even the churches are presented as terrorist organizations’.

Expert of the ‘Noravanq’ foundation Vahram Hovyan announced … that the attacks and pressure against Christians are held both by the government and by the Turk extremists.” Source – Times.am.

The assault took place yesterday morning, while the faithful gathered for Sunday celebrations. On May 17, coinciding with the feast of the Ascension of Jesus, the place of worship was attacked, during which the fundamentalists hurled stones and bags full of urine against the faithful…

Local witnesses report that yesterday – on the arrival of the Faithful – a group of extremists blocked access to the ‘Church Street’, forcing people to abandon their motorcycles and cover the last part of the journey to the place of worship on foot . The police were deployed around the perimeter of the building, to allow the smooth running of the function, but a crowd of about 400 extremists ‘surrounded’ the area and started to rant against members of religious minority.

Among the fundamentalist group there were not only men but also women and children. After the threats came blows. The crowd began to throw water, sewage, used oil, mud, rotten eggs, sticks and other blunt objects. A ‘brutal’ attack aggravated by the presence of a swarm of ‘infiltrators’ who has passed the cordon of officers and attacked the faithful of the Christian community the ‘from within’.

Reached by AsiaNews, the Rev. Palti H. Panjaitan Sth – head of the Protestant community Hkbp Filadelfia – emphasized that ‘what scares us most is that the number of police was so small compared to the angry mob.’ He adds that ‘it is clear that they did not have the strength to repel the attackers’ and journalists, activists and lawyers who fight in defence of human rights can do nothing either.” Source – AsiaNews.it.

By Nahro Farid, Ishtar TV – “Bartella, Nineveh Plains – A small argument led to an all-out assault against a Christian cafe owner in the Assyrian town of Bartella on Saturday night.

Eyewitness described the terror that lasted almost an hour in the small town of 20,000, which began after an argument by a group of Muslim outsiders.

The group of people, who were believed to have come from a nearby village, were at the cafe to watch the European club football final match between Chelsea and Bayern Munich.

The group left the cafe but to only return with guns and began to fire at all directions in Bartella. After entering the cafe, the gunmen began to destroy everything in the cafe.

Despite the ongoing Muslim destruction of churches and the slaughter of Christians – including many murdered during worship services – the U.S. Agency for International Development claims that the misunderstandings make it difficult to administer aid programs.

USAID, therefore, has launched a program titled Project PEACE – an acronym for Programming Effectively Against Conflict and Extremism.

PEACE says it will hire contractors to help the agency analyze the ‘true’ causes of conflict and consequently provide more effective humanitarian and conflict-resolution assistance, according to planning documents that WND located via database research.

The cost of Obama’s new ‘knowledge generation, dissemination and management’ initiative is $600 million.

Mohabat News – “In addition to the increased restrictions against Iranian Christian converts, the Ministry of Intelligence has now ordered the leaders of the central AOG church in Tehran to compile a list of the names and National ID numbers of its members and submit it to the security authorities.

According to Iranian Christian news agency, Mohabat News, reports from Tehran indicate that leaders of the central AOG church of Tehran asked their congregation in Sunday May 6 service to voluntarily present them with a list of their names and National ID numbers so that they submit the list to the officials. This reveals the identity of Christian converts and enables security authorities to record detailed information about the Christians.

It is clear that such a decision by the leaders of the AOG church, is a result of pressures the security authorities have been imposing on them. This seems to be a precautionary move by the security organizations to identify Christians and possibly use the information later to arrest Christian converts and watch the activities of the church even more closely, especially to prevent them from receiving new people. Such orders by security authorities make Christians’ relationship with their church riskier than ever.

This security move by Iranian authorities reveals that even after cancelling the Farsi services in some churches, they have not been successful in reducing the number of Christian converts and the trend by other people to attend the church. In recent months, organizers and operational groups of the Ministry of Intelligence ordered the last two churches in Tehran still holding Farsi services, to cancel these services. However, this has not stopped Christians from attending church services and illustrates the failure of all these repressive plans and threats which were designed to deal with spread of Christianity in Iran.” Read more.

Flashback: Iranian Authorities Arrest Two More Christian Converts, One Family Taunted To ‘Ask Jesus Christ To Come’ And Save Daughter – “A number of plain clothes security officers raided the homes of two Christian converts in Tehran simultaneously and arrested them. The mother of one of the detained Christians asked, ‘Where are you taking my daughter?’ But the authorities ironically replied, ‘Ask Jesus Christ to come and release her’ … The security authorities, among whom were plain clothes agents, entered the homes without showing any warrant and arrested the two Christians without providing any explanation. As Easter, one of the highest Christian holidays, comes in April, Christian persecution in Muslim nations—from sheer violence to oppressive laws—was rampant: In Nigeria, where jihadis have expressed their desire to expunge all traces of Christianity, a church was bombed during Easter Sunday, killing some 50 worshippers; in Turkey, a pastor was beaten by Muslims immediately following Easter service and threatened with death unless he converted to Islam; and in Iran, Easter Sunday saw 12 Christians stand trial as ‘apostates.’

The persecution of Christians has come to regions not normally associated with it. As in Nigeria, Muslim militants are now also running amok in Timbuktu, Mali—beheading a Christian leader and threatening other Christians with similar treatment. Sharia law has been imposed, churches are being destroyed, and Christians are fleeing Timbuktu in mass.

Azerbaijan: A church in the Muslim-majority nation has ‘become the first religious community to be liquidated by a court since the country’s harsh new ‘Religion Law,’ requiring all previously registered religious institutions to re-register, came into force in 2009. Greater Grace Protestant Church in the capital, Baku, ‘was stripped of its registration at a 15-minute hearing on 25 April. The decision, which was made in the absence of any church representatives, makes any activity by the church illegal and subject to punishment.’
