Darkness Falls On Egypt – Thanks, Obama

05/16/2012 1 comment

By Joel Richardson – “On Jan. 31, 2011, the first day protests began in Egypt, in an WND article titled, ‘What’s next in the Middle East,’ I predicted precisely what we are now seeing unfold in Egypt. Don’t get me wrong – I am no prophet, but as I said then, and continue to believe, if one simply has a solid understanding of what the Bible says about the future of the region, as well as a solid understanding of the religious and geopolitical landscape of the Middle East, then this was a no-brainer. Unfortunately, the Obama administration, and the entirety of the mainstream media, missed this one by a full 180 degrees.

Literally hours after the protests began in Egypt, President Obama called for an ‘orderly transition’ to democracy there, stopping just shy of demanding President Mubarak step down, but making it clear that his days were numbered.

Only days later, Obama even praised the Egyptian revolutionaries.

Later, Obama spoke directly to Mubarak and personally demanded that his resignation take place ‘within days.’

Obama then stepped out into the foyer of the White House and declared to the world that Mubarak’s departure must ‘begin now.’

Finally, after the resignation of one of the United States and Israel’s longest, strongest and most important allies in the region, President Obama declared:

“The people of Egypt have spoken. Their voices have been heard. and Egypt will never be the same. … By stepping down, President Mubarak responded to the Egyptian people’s hunger for change, but this is not the end of Egypt’s transition. It’s the beginning.”

How is it that the president of the United States could get it so wrong, while mere commentators like myself and Glenn Beck, who are regularly mocked as absolute lunatics by the mainstream media, got it so right?

On the day the revolution began, I made the following prediction: Read more…

Thousands Amass In Jordan For Major Military Exercise

05/15/2012 Leave a comment

By Barbara Starr, CNN – “It couldn’t come at a more delicate time in the Middle East. No one will say it publicly, but the Eager Lion 2012 exercise – and the 12,000 multinational forces gathering in Jordan – are sending a not-so-quiet message to others in the region: they are ready for whatever comes.

From now until the end of May, one of the largest multinational military exercises the region has seen is taking place in Jordan. There are more than 19 nations, including the United States and a number of Arab and European allies, gathering to practice their combat skills, just in case.

Several U.S. military officials say while it’s not the primary intention, the exercise is meant to be noticed by Syria and Iran especially. The message: even with the United States out of Iraq, and winding up the war in Afghanistan, there is a formidable U.S. presence in the region, and other countries are capable of filling in the gaps.

The U.S. Navy already is keeping two aircraft carriers in the next-door Persian Gulf region, and stepping up the presence of minesweepers in those waters. The Air Force has sent half a dozen F-22 fighters to the United Arab Emirates. The Joint Special Operations Command has conducted several deadly drone strikes against al Qaeda in Yemen.

But Eager Lion is taking it one step further. Marines will train in southern Jordan on their amphibious landing and warfare skills. But there will also be a number of the most elite U.S. Special Operations troops, training with Jordanian special forces units in counterterrorism and other assault operations.

The exercise is part of the overall U.S. military strategy to support Jordan as that country grows increasingly concerned about the unrest across its northern border with Syria. Jordanian officials are especially concerned about the potential for Syria to forces tens of thousands of its Palestinian refugees into Jordan, as well as Syrians escaping the fighting.

There is concern in a worst case scenario that the Syrian regime could lose control of some of its chemical or biological weapons stocks and they could somehow illicitly come into Jordan.

So a major portion of the exercise will also be devoted to training together on dealing with refugee flows and managing a chemical or biological weapons crisis.

But publicly, Jordanian officials say the exercise is not about their neighbor to the north.

‘This has nothing to do with Syria. We respect the sovereignty of Syria. There is no tension between the Syrians and us. Our objectives are clear.’ Major General. Awni el-Edwan, Chief of staff of the Jordanian Operations and Training Armed Forces. ‘No forces will be deployed north of the 32nd parallel. The exercise is not connected to any real world event.’

Officials quietly acknowledge all U.S. military training in the region now could be useful in the event of action against Iran.” Read more.

Egypt: Increasing Number Of Egyptians Want To Ditch Peace Treaty With Israel, Model Its Government After Saudi Arabia

05/14/2012 1 comment

I guess the tombstone of that “dead and buried” peace treaty is preventing the people of Egypt from carrying out one of their greatest collective wishes. Sadly, this thirst may be one of the reasons why the Muslim Brotherhood’s own “[Say Good-Bye To] Freedom and [Anything But] Justice Party” continues to receive the highest support rating from the Egyptian people …

By Patrick Goodenough, CNS News – “(CNSNews.com) – As Egyptians prepare to vote for their first post-Mubarak president next week, the antipathy towards Israel espoused by the frontrunners aligns with the findings of a new survey, in which 61 percent of Egyptian respondents favor abandoning the Egypt-Israel peace treaty, up from 54 percent a year ago.

The poll, by the Pew Global Attitudes Project, also finds a small decline among Egyptians in favorable views of the United States – now just 19 percent – while 61 percent of respondents said the billions of dollars the U.S. gives their country in military and economic aid has a ‘mostly negative’ impact.

Asked their views on Egyptian-U.S. ties, 38 percent indicated the relationship should be more distant, 35 percent said it should remain as it is now, and 20 percent said it should be closer.

Among other findings:

–On the role of religion in government, 61 percent chose Saudi Arabia as the preferred model. (Turkey came in at 17 percent).

–Asked whether Egypt’s laws should strictly adhere to the Qur’an, 60 percent said yes while 32 percent said it should follow the values and principles of Islam and only six percent said laws should not be influenced by the teachings of the Qur’an.

— Seventy percent of respondents viewed the Muslim Brotherhood favorably, down from 75 percent in 2011. The Muslim Brotherhood’s political wing, the Freedom and Justice Party, also received the highest support rating among political parties, 56 percent.” Read more.

Syria: Remaining Christians Fear Possible Islamist Rule, Would Be ‘Expelled From The Country In One Day’ If Assad Falls

“Christians living in conflict-torn Syria are afraid that their community would fall victim of religious extremism if President Bashar al-Assad regime collapses and Islamists come to power.

‘I am afraid that we will suffer bad times,’ a member of Damascus’s Christian community, who identified himself as Jorge, told RIA Novosti.

A full-fledged civil war will break out in Syria if Assad’s enemies and their western supporters continue efforts to topple the president, he continued.

‘If the regime falls…, Islamists will come to power,’ Jorge said, adding that Islamists ‘wrongly believe that we support the current regime,’ and for that reason they will complicate the life of Christians.

‘Sunni Muslims who predominate Syria think that if President Assad’s regime representing the interests of the Alawi minority falls, they will live better. But I personally think that they are wrong. Syria is a secular state and its people, including Muslims, will not like it if the new power starts thrusting orthodox Islamic norms of moral and behavior on them,’ he added.

According to Jorge’s opinion, extremist forces rather than liberals would come to power in Syria.

Another Syrian, an engineer from Homs, said on conditions of anonymity that he is sure that if Assad’s regime falls, Christians will be ‘expelled from the country in one day.'” Read more.

A resident of the village, who did not wish to be identified, said ‘armed jihadist (expiatory) group came to the village and ordered us to leave our homes empty handed.’ The armed group, he further stated, ‘have exercised their control over all the houses, and occupied the church and made it as their command control center.’ Qastal al-Burg village is in the province of Hama and is 48 kilometers northwest of Hama.” Source – AINA.

Nearly 100,000 Christians so far have fled from Homs and other cities being targeted by government forces, but it is no longer just to escape the crossfire. Now, more reports are revealing that a new wave of persecution is deliberate and growing… ‘It is over; we can’t get back what we lost,’ said one discouraged Christian refugee here in Jordan. ‘It will never be the same anymore for me or my family. New Proof Of Iran Nuclear Arms Program No Surprise To Israel, Casts More Doubt On Iran’s Nuclear Denials

By Ryan Jones, Israel Today Magazine – “The Associated Press at the weekend published a graphical rendering of what appears to be a pressure chamber used to test nuclear weapons. It reported that the drawing was provided by a high-ranking official from a country tracking Iran’s nuclear program, and that the image allegedly depicts facilities located inside the Parchin military base near Tehran.

A former deputy director general at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) told the AP that the drawing closely resembles a photograph he recently saw of a pressure chamber at Parchin.

Iran refused to comment on the drawing, and continued to insist that it is not developing nuclear weapons. And while the new evidence strongly suggests otherwise, Defense Minister Ehud Barak said the pressure chamber diagram is nothing new.

‘This diagram is part of the information known to all leading intelligence agencies in the free world for some time,’ Barak told Israel Radio. The Israeli did indicate that he hopes the publication of the diagram will get more countries on board with serious efforts to halt Iran’s nuclear program.

Late last week, Iranian opposition group Mujahadeen Khalq warned in a report published by Germany’s Die Welt that while Iran teases the West with hopes of a diplomatic solution, the Islamic Republic is rushing full steam ahead to develop an atomic bomb.” Read more.

Iran: 60 Scientists And Engineers Actively Working To Develop Nuclear Weapons, Claims America Has Abandoned Israel

05/14/2012 Leave a comment

By Nicholas Vinocur and Fredrik Dahl – “(Reuters) – An exiled Iranian opposition group said on Saturday that Iran has some 60 scientists and engineers involved in a concerted and expanding programme to develop nuclear weapons under defence ministry auspices.

However, diplomats say the National Council of Resistance of Iran has had a spotty record with allegations about Iran’s nuclear work since exposing a secret uranium enrichment plant at Natanz in 2002. A top U.S. nuclear expert said the NCRI report, like previous ones, should be treated with great scepticism.

Its latest report, whose details could not be verified, appeared timed to encourage a tougher line at talks with Iran the U.N. nuclear watchdog will have in Vienna on Monday and Tuesday and six world powers will hold in Baghdad on May 23.

But it clashed with the assessment of U.S. and Israeli intelligence officials that Iran has not decided whether to ‘weaponise’ its enrichment programme. Tehran says it is refining uranium solely for peaceful energy.

In the six-page report shown to Reuters, the Paris-based NCRI cited sources in Iran’s government and military as saying some 60 scientists were pursuing bomb-relevant research in 11 agencies operating clandestinely under defence ministry control.

‘Information … shows that the clerical regime has expanded the organisation responsible for nuclear weapons development,’ the report said. ‘This finding reveals a complete and elaborate, and highly … secret research structure and a network for procurement of the required parts and equipment.'” Read more.

Egypt: Muslim Brotherhood Presidential Candidate Declares ‘Death In The Name Of Allah Is Our Goal’

Proverbs 8:35-36, “For he who finds Me finds life And obtains favor from the LORD. But he who sins against Me injures himself. All those who hate Me love death.”

Yes, this is the same Muslim Brotherhood that officially endorsed Barack Obama’s own chosen “faith adviser.” If this death-loving candidate wasn’t what the Obama Administration had in mind when they said they were perfectly satisfied with a Muslim Brotherhood win in Egypt, then what on earth were they expecting? …

“Egypt’s Constitution should be based on the Koran and Sharia law, presidential candidate from the Muslim Brotherhood Islamist movement Mohamed Morsi said.

‘The Koran is our constitution, the Prophet is our leader, jihad is our path and death in the name of Allah is our goal,’ Morsi said in his election speech before Cairo University students on Saturday night.

Today Egypt is close as never before to the triumph of Islam at all the state levels, he said.

‘Today we can establish Sharia law because our nation will acquire well-being only with Islam and Sharia. The Muslim Brothers and the Freedom and Justice Party will be the conductors of these goals,’ he said.

The Muslim Brotherhood Islamist group has been banned in Egypt for decades before being legalized following the ouster of President Hosni Mubarak in last year’s popular uprising, and has since emerged as a powerful political force.

The first round of Egypt’s presidential election is scheduled for May 23-24. The presidential campaign starts on April 30 and finishes at midnight on May 21.

The president will be elected for a four-year term.” Source – The Voice of Russia.

Flashback: ‘A Serious Intellectual Failing’: Obama Embraces Islam – If Islamism Is OK For Egypt, Why Not America? – “The Obama administration is doing its utmost to promote the fortunes of the Islamist parties in Egypt. A State Department official declared that with the rise of these radical groups after the Arab Spring, ‘people who once might have gone into al Qaeda see an opportunity for a legitimate Islamism.’ They see this as a victory. The problem is, so do the terrorists. Last year, the White House began peddling the line that the uprisings in the Middle East were a repudiation of the al Qaeda model of seeking change through terrorism. The argument was that while America opposed violent extremism, the rise of nonviolent radical movements was just fine, and even commendable.” Read more.

Nigeria: Seven Killed In Christian Village After Suspected Islamists Set Fire To Home, Shoot Those Running Outside To Flee The Flames

By Areeb Hasni, The News Tribe – “Abuja: At least seven people were brutally killed in central Nigeria when gunmen set fire to a home in a Christian village, violently divided by faith, and shot those who ran outside to flee the flames, media reported on Thursday.

According to reports the killings that took place late Wednesday night happened in the village of Tahoss, said Mark Lipdo, who runs a Christian advocacy group known as the Stefanos Foundation.

Lipdo said that the gunmen, suspected to be from the Muslim Fulani herdsmen who roam the pasturelands of the plateau, targeted one specific family in their attack.

Local police spokesman Samuel Dabai said that he visited Tahoss and saw the corpses. Dabai said police had begun an investigation into the attack.

The attack represents the latest killings spiraling out of unrest between Christians and Muslims living around the city of Jos, an area that has seen thousands killed in the last decade in fighting. That violence continues to go further and further out into rural villages, a potential sign that killings could again rage out of control.” Read more.

US Officials Said To Be Fearful Of Looming Israeli Strike On Iran

05/11/2012 2 comments

By Ron Friedman, Times of Israel – “US officials fear the unity government established earlier this week signals an impending Israeli attack on Iran, Channel 10 News reported Thursday evening.

According to the report, officials are holding marathon talks in Washington out of concern that an Israeli attack on Iran’s nuclear program may take place before the US presidential elections in November.

Undisclosed Washington sources told Channel 10 that they worry Kadima was offered a place in the coalition to shore up support for a preemptive attack aimed at halting the Islamic Republic’s nuclear drive, and that Kadima chairman Shaul Mofaz would approve of such an attack.

The report added that the US officials believe early Israeli elections would have kept the F-15s at bay, but are now genuinely concerned that with political backing, there is little to stop Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu from ordering the attack.

In a joint press conference held Tuesday, Netanyahu and Kadima leader Shaul Mofaz said they saw eye-to eye on a slew of issues, including Iran. In the past Mofaz has been a vocal critic of the notion of Israel striking Iran’s nuclear sites on its own, but Netanyahu and Defense Minister Ehud Barak are both believed to favor an early strike.

Having gone to sleep with expectations of September elections, Israelis woke up to a new political reality Tuesday morning, learning that overnight, Netanyahu and Mofaz signed a deal to form a unity government.” Read more.

Israel’s new submarines geared at tackling rising Mideast threats, from the sea – “With all the attention in recent days given to short-term political developments, an event with long-term implications for regional strategic balance almost escaped serious attention. Last Thursday, the high command of the Israeli Navy took part in the delivery ceremony of INS Tanin, Israel’s fourth Dolphin submarine, at Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft shipyard in Kiel, Germany. Most of the foreign media reports tend to focus on the rumored special tubes which may also be used by nuclear-tipped missiles. This was the focus of Gunter Grass’ poem on Israel’s dark plans to annihilate the Iranian population. But the real significance of the new submarines Israel is receiving from Germany, three in all, is the huge boost it will give to Israel’s long-range strategic capabilities.” Read more.

Egypt: Christian Father Fights For Daughter Abducted By Islamists, ‘Become A Muslim And We’ll Spare Your Life’

05/10/2012 Leave a comment

“Washington, D.C. May 8 (ICC) – “‘We don’t know if our daughter is still alive,’ Magda told ICC during a recent visit to Egypt. ‘We haven’t seen or heard from her in five years… Her kidnapper called us and said she was dead and buried.’

Mary disappeared in June 2007, but to her mother, Magda, it feels like only yesterday that she was sleeping peacefully in her own bed under the loving care of her parents. For those who lose a child, as Magda had, the pain never goes away.

‘There were no warning signs. There was nothing we could do, but the guilt doesn’t go away. If only we could have known [what would happen],’ Magda explained while fighting back tears.

The abduction took place on an ordinary Thursday evening. After school, Mary went out with friends for pizza and a movie. While sipping cocoa at a restaurant, Mary began to feel dizzy and sick. ‘You go ahead and go home,’ said Nahla, a Muslim girl. ‘The rest of us want to go to the cinema.’ Nahla was new to Mary’s group of friends; they had only known her a few weeks.

Mary left the group to catch a bus home alone. This was the last time her friends would see her. No one knows what happened next, but Mary was gone.

Mary’s friends and parents believe Nahla had something to do with it; perhaps she was an accomplice to Mary’s abductors who put drugs in Mary’s drink. Although this suspicion has yet to be confirmed, after Mary’s disappearance, Nahla was nowhere to be found.

Mary’s parents stayed up throughout the night waiting anxiously for their daughter’s return. Mary’s father filed a report at the police station the next morning. He stayed at the station the entire day, determined to see that an investigation was being carried out. Late that afternoon, the police told him they had found his daughter.

Mary was escorted along with several other women into the station by four men in Islamic dress with long beards. The men were Salafis, a group that follows the strict doctrine of Wahhabi Islam from Saudi Arabia. Mary was covered head to toe in a burka. ‘[My husband] recognized her by her shoes,’ Magda told ICC.

Two armed policemen stood by, watching the father’s every move. When he called Mary by name, a Muslim man hit her in the face. There was no answer.

Then he tried to grab his daughter, but she was quickly taken away by the police. The father yelled after her while struggling desperately to free himself from the grip of the police officers who were holding him down. It was no use. Mary was forced in the back of a van and driven away.

‘I went back to the police station that night with my son,’ Magda said. ‘They cursed us and humiliated us. They treated us very badly.’

The parents soon began receiving threatening e-mails and phone calls. ‘Become a Muslim and we’ll spare your life,’ one caller said. ‘Pay a £6,000 ransom or your daughter is dead,’ said another. One caller told Magda that Mary had been killed and buried.

‘Look at me. I’m dying inside,’ Mary’s father told BBC. ‘Jesus Christ gave me my daughter. He gave her to me, not to them.'” Read more.

‘Jihad! Jihad!’: The New Face Of Egypt’s Political Landscape

05/10/2012 Leave a comment

By Raymond Ibrahim, Frontpagemag.com – “Considering Egypt’s presidential elections take place later this month, last weekend’s Islamist clash with the military could not have come at a worse time.

First, the story: due to overall impatience—and rage that the Salafi presidential candidate, Abu Ismail, was disqualified (several secular candidates were also disqualified)—emboldened Islamists began to gather around the Defense Ministry in Abbassia, Cairo, late last week, chanting jihadi slogans, and preparing for a ‘million man’ protest for Friday, May 4th.

As Egypt’s Al Ahram put it, ‘Major Egyptian Islamist parties and groups—including the Muslim Brotherhood, the Salafist Calling and Al-Gamaa Al-Islamiya—have issued calls for a Tahrir Square demonstration on Friday under the banner of ‘Saving the revolution.’ … Several non-Islamist revolutionary groups, meanwhile, have expressed their refusal to participate in the event.’ In other words, last Friday was largely an Islamist protest (even though some in the Western media still portray it as a ‘general’ demonstration).

There, in front of the Defense Ministry, the Islamists exposed their true face—exposed their hunger for power, their unpatriotic motivations, and their political ineptitude. For starters, among those leading the protests was none other than Muhammad al-Zawahiri, a brother of al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri, and a seasoned jihadi in his own right, who was only recently acquitted and released from prison, where, since 1998, he was incarcerated ‘on charges of undergoing military training in Albania and planning military operations in Egypt.’

Before the Friday protest, Zawahiri appeared ‘at the head of hundreds of protesters,’ including ‘dozens of jihadis,’ demonstrating in front of the Defense Ministry.’ They waved banners that read, ‘Victory or Death’ and chanted ‘Jihad! Jihad!’—all punctuated by cries of ‘Allahu Akbar!’ Likewise, Al-Gamaa Al-Islamiya—the group responsible for slaughtering some 60 European tourists in the 1997 Luxor Massacre—was at the protests. Even the so-called ‘moderate’ Muslim Brotherhood participated.

Two lessons emerge here: 1) an Islamist is an Islamist is an Islamist: when it comes down to ideology, they are one; 2) Violence and more calls to jihad are the fruits of clemency—the thanks Egypt’s Supreme Council of Armed Forces (SCAF) gets for releasing such Islamists imprisoned during ousted President Hosni Mubarak’s tenure.” Read more.

Lebanon: Daughter Of Shiite Cleric Physically And Psychologically Tortured For Converting To Christianity

05/10/2012 1 comment

“A Lebanese priest who baptized a Muslim woman has been kidnapped and released.

The daughter of a Shiite cleric ‘said she was physically and psychologically tortured by her father for converting to Christianity three years ago, although she is a 24-year-old adult,’ said Maronite Catholic Bishop Simon Atallah of Baalbek. ‘I have received an unconfirmed report that she had recently fled to an unknown destination after her father forced her to marry someone.’

The kidnappers thought that Father Walid Gharious knew the woman’s whereabouts and later released him. The nation’s president condemned the kidnapping.

According to the prelate, the kidnapped is part of an escalating pattern of violence against local Catholics.

‘Last Wednesday, unknown assailants fired gunshots at the house of a priest from the Kairouz family in the town of Nabha, and a similar incident occurred on Sunday before the start of the municipal elections, when shots were fired at the Our Lady Church in Nabha,’ he said.” Source – Catholic Culture.
