Egypt: Tens of Thousands of ‘Protesters’ Demand Army Retreat From Power

04/20/2012 Leave a comment

Make no mistake about it, this protest is largely comprised of Islamists who want nothing less than full control of Egypt and its people, including the military …

By Shaimaa Fayed and Edmund Blair, Reuters – “Tens of thousands of Egyptians demanded on Friday that their military rulers stick to a pledge to hand over power by mid-year after a row over who can run in the presidential election raised doubts about the army’s commitment to democracy.

Two leading Islamist candidates, one representing the Muslim Brotherhood who was seen as the frontrunner, were among those disqualified this week from a vote that starts on May 23-24, drawing a storm of criticism from supporters and the candidates.

Khairat al-Shater, the Brotherhood’s former candidate, said his ejection showed the generals who have ruled since Hosni Mubarak was ousted last year had no serious intention of quitting. The movement is now fielding a reserve candidate.

‘We are all here to protect the revolution and complete its demands,’ said Sayed Gad, 38, a pharmacist and Brotherhood member. He had joined a protest which attracted both Islamists and liberals to a packed Tahrir Square in central Cairo, although the two sides were not united on all their demands.

A council of generals, who stepped in 14 months ago after mass demonstrations in Tahrir and elsewhere had sapped Mubarak’s power, has led Egypt through a turbulent transition punctuated by spasms of violence and frequent protests against their handling of the move to democracy.

The army says it will stick to its timetable to hand power to a new president by July 1 and has promised to oversee a fair vote. But some remarks from military officials suggesting the army might also seek now to have a new constitution in place before that handover – an impossibly tight deadline for many – has added to popular worries about the military’s ambitions.” Read more.

Flashback: Egypt: Muslim Brotherhood Takes on Egyptian Military – “You can forgive Egyptians for concluding that the Muslim Brotherhood cannot be trusted. After claiming that it is not trying to control parliament, that it favours consensus over monopoly and that it would not field a candidate in the presidential elections, Egypt’s most powerful political movement has broken all its promises… The movement’s brazen push for power is a dramatic departure from its decades-old approach of cautious…” Read more.

Turkey: Attacked Turkish Pastor Told to Accept Islam or Die, Joins Memorial Service for Slain Christians

04/19/2012 Leave a comment

Compass Direct News – “After a memorial service for three Christians who were murdered in Malatya, Turkey five years ago today, an Istanbul pastor who was attacked over Easter weekend said he’s experienced hostility from Muslims nearly all his life.

Semir Serkek, 58, pastor of Grace Church in Istanbul’s Bahcelievler district, said he personally knew Turkish converts to Christianity Necati Aydin and Ugur Yuksel and German Christian Tilmann Geske, who were brutally murdered by five young men in the southeastern city of Malatya on April 18, 2007.

‘I looked at their fate with some envy, because they were young and I am old, but they left – I have gone through many things,’ he said. ‘But they were so young, so young.’

On a day when memorial services were held for the three slain Christians in Malatya, Izmir and Elazig as well as the ones Serkek attended at both the Kozyatag Cultural Center and Gedikpasha Church in Istanbul, the pastor said the physical violence on him the evening (April 7) before Easter Sunday surprised him.

‘I’ve been verbally abused for being a Christian many times, but this was the first time I was hit, so this was surprising and made me sad,’ Serkek said.

Serkek was alone at Grace Church finishing preparations for the next day’s Easter celebration when at around 9 p.m. he heard frantic pounding at the door, he said. Opening it, he found four young men in their late teens who claimed they had questions and demanded to enter.

The men, whom Serkek said appeared to be about 18 years old, were agitated, and when he refused to let them in they used insulting language, he said. They threatened to kill him if he didn’t recite the Islamic testimony of faith.

‘This made me uneasy, and I told them that this was a church and they should come back in the morning,’ Serkek told Compass. ‘‘This is a Muslim neighborhood, what business does a church have here?’ they asked me, and told me again and again that if I didn’t accept the final religion I would die.'” Read more.

“The United States has warned its citizens in Nigeria that the radical Islamist sect Boko Haram may be planning attacks in the capital, Abuja.

The U.S. embassy issued an emergency message saying attacks could target hotels used by Westerners, but that the timing was unknown.

The alert said the Nigerian government was aware of the threat and ‘actively implementing security measures.’

The embassy cautioned citizens to be especially aware of their security near Nigerian government facilities, diplomatic missions, large gathering places, markets and places of worship.” Read more.

Country of Concern: ‘Pro-Islamist’ Turkey Suppressing Christian Worship

04/18/2012 5 comments

By Gary Lane, CBN – “ISTANBUL, Turkey — On April 18, 2007, three Christians were bound to their chairs, tortured, and stabbed repeatedly at a Bible print shop in Malatya — their throats slit.

Five years have now passed since the Malatya murders, an incident that was perhaps the most tragic and brutal murder of Christians in modern-day Turkey.

Today, believers are facing increased persecution and the country is gradually moving away from secularism.

‘You see everyday is April 18. Everyday I have to live without him,’ widow Susanne Geske told CBN News on the one year anniversary of her husband’s murder.

Five suspects went on trial for killing the men, but there is still no conviction…

Church attendance dropped immediately after the Malatya incident. And although attendance is now growing again, so are the number of attacks against Christians.

The Protestant churches of Turkey documented 12 attacks in 2011. This included the beating of Christians for sharing their faith with Muslims.

No one has been prosecuted for any of these crimes, putting Turkey on the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom’s list of ‘countries of particular concern’ (CPC) for the first time.

Nina Shea, one of the commissioners supporting that move, said the Turkish government is suppressing Christian worship, and as a result Christian numbers are dwindling.

‘They comprise 0.15 percent of the entire population of Turkey,’ Shea said. ‘They are very frail, and we’re going to see them vanish in our lifetime if Turkey doesn’t lift its dense web of regulations and give them religious freedom.’

Turkey’s ambassador in Washington called the CPC designation ‘politically motivated.’

Middle East analyst Walid Phares is not surprised by the persecution of Christians in Turkey. He said Prime Minister Erdogan has been shifting away from a pro-NATO, pro-Western position to a ‘pro-Islamists, more anti-Israel and slightly anti-Western attitude.'” Read more.

Israel Develops New Weapons for Next War with Hezbollah

Space Daily – “Amid a flurry of warnings that Lebanon and Hezbollah will be hammered in any new conflict, the Israeli military unveiled a new 120mm tank shell said to be able to penetrate reinforced targets, including in populated areas.

‘Such a capability — to accurately target terrorists hiding inside homes — is believed to be crucial for the army as it faces future conflicts with Hezbollah and Hamas, both terrorist groups which embed themselves within civilian infrastructure,’ The Jerusalem Post reported.

In the same edition, the daily’s military correspondent, Yaakov Katz, quoted senior defense officials as saying that ‘Israel will attack Lebanese government targets during a future war with Hezbollah.’

This blitzkrieg, it says, would be triggered by retaliatory attacks on Israel by the heavily armed, Iranian-backed Shiite movement if Israel launches pre-emptive strikes against Iran’s nuclear facilities.

The report was headlined ‘Lebanese targets fair game in war with Hezbollah’…

Israeli newspapers have reported how the army, still smarting from being fought to a humiliating standstill by Hezbollah’s outgunned irregulars in 2006, plans to deploy special units go after the Hezbollah is in the elaborate defense networks they’ve constructed since 2006.

Last week, the army rehearsed dropping ammunition and other supplies, even Humvees, from Lockheed Martin C-130 transports to ‘forces operating deep behind enemy lines.’

Newspapers reported that Israeli troops will be equipped with new miniature backpack radars with a range of only a few miles to detect hostile forces on the ground.” Read more.

U.S. Commander Warns North Korea Over Nuclear Test, ‘We Are Considering All Options’ Including a Surgical Strike on Nuke Sites

04/18/2012 1 comment

Korea JoongAng Daily – “A senior U.S. military officer said yesterday all options are on the table to counter North Korea’s armed provocations, including a surgical strike on its nuclear facility.

Admiral Samuel J. Locklear, the commander of the U.S. Pacific Command, visited Korea for the first time since he assumed the post in March. During the visit, Admiral Locklear met with the National Defense Ministry press corps and spoke about a wide range of issues including North Korea’s latest rocket launch and the possibility of a nuclear test, as well as the U.S.-South Korea military alliance.

He expressed skepticism about the communist regime’s true long-range missile capability.

Following the North’s failed launch of a long-range rocket, which exploded only minutes after liftoff Friday, speculation has risen that Pyongyang will conduct a third nuclear weapon test. The North conducted its first nuclear test in October 2006, three months after a long-range missile test. In April 2009, the North also launched another long-range rocket and carried out the second nuclear test a month later.

Admiral Locklear said the United States is paying close attention to the possibility of the North’s nuclear test. Asked if a surgical strike on the nuclear test facilities is being discussed in the United States, commander said, ‘We are considering all options,’ but he added it would be inappropriate for him to comment specifically on future military operations.

‘It’s true that in the past the North Korean government has followed this type of missile launch with further provocations,’ he said.” Read more.

Mali: Christian Missionary Abducted by Suspected Islamists in the North

BBC – “A Swiss woman has been abducted in the rebel-held northern Malian city of Timbuktu, officials and residents say.

The woman, a Christian missionary in her 40s called Beatrice, was taken from her house by armed men, residents said.

Most foreigners fled Timbuktu after Tuareg and Islamist rebels seized the town early this month in the aftermath of a military coup.

The kidnap comes amid concern the area could offer a safe haven to an al-Qaeda branch operating in the country.

Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (Aqim), the network’s North African wing, has links to the Islamist rebels. The group is already holding 13 Westerners.

‘Beatrice, a Swiss national, was abducted this Sunday at Timbuktu by armed men,’ local official Mohamed Ould Hassen told AFP.

One resident of the town told the news agency that they saw six armed men take the woman.

‘They shouted ‘Allah Akbar’ [God is great],’ the resident added.” Read more.

Islamist North Sudan Declares Christian South Sudan An ‘Enemy State’

04/17/2012 4 comments

It was only a matter of time …

Sudan Tribune – “(KHARTOUM) – The Sudanese national assembly on Monday adopted a resolution designating the country’s southern neighbour as an enemy state in the latest sign of escalation between the two sides.

‘We consider the government of South Sudan an enemy and Sudanese state institutions must treat it as such,’ according to the text read by Kamal Obeid who chairs the defense and security committee in parliament.

The legislative body’s speaker Ahmed Ibrahim al-Taher also announced that his country wants the ruling party in South Sudan toppled by any means necessary.

‘We declare that we will confront the [Sudan People Liberation Movement] SPLM until we end its rule of the South, and will work to gather our resources to realize this aim,’ al-Taher said.

‘We are in a battle that does not finish with the recovery of Heglig, but with an end to the danger that comes from South Sudan’ he added.

It remains unclear what implications the decision will carry as the power to declare war lies with the president according to the constitution. Only then can the parliament endorse it according to the 2005 constitution.” Read more.

Islamic Extremists Attacking Christians, Sikhs in South Asia

04/17/2012 Leave a comment

By Stoyan Zaimov, The Christian Post – “Reports of Islamic extremists attacking people of others faiths in India and Pakistan have been growing in recent years, resulting in beatings and even beheadings.

On March 30, at a Christian church in the West Bengal state of India, a 65-year-old woman widow was beaten after Islamist extremists forced their way into the church, Compass Direct News reported. The 11 or so members of the church were attacked simply for gathering and worshipping Christ, and the Islamists called them “pagans” as they continuously kicked and beat them.

In the same area of Nutangram earlier in March, a 22-year old woman was driven from her predominantly Muslim village after she thanked Christ for being healed from an illness – apparently, even her Muslim parents joined in the subsequent attack by Islamists who wanted her and her beliefs out of the village.

The religious persecution is reportedly just as bad in neighboring Pakistan, where Christians are targeted even by government authorities. Currently, a Christian mother of five, Asia Bibi, is on death row for allegedly blaspheming the name of the prophet Muhammad two years ago, an accusation filed by co-workers at a field she was working on.

Bibi insists all she was doing was defending her Christian faith, but has been jailed nonetheless – and even if the Pakistani court finds her not guilty and releases her, many Islamic leaders have placed a bounty on her head …” Read more.

New York: Islamic Terrorists ‘Prepared to Strap Bombs to Their Bodies and Walk Into Crowded New York Subway Cars’, Were Only Days from Attack

04/17/2012 Leave a comment

If terror-linked Islamist front groups like CAIR and ISNA get their way — fully supported by their leftist enablers and fully empowered by the politically correct ineptitude of the Obama Administration — then “passionate” Muslims like Adis Madunjanin and his “brothers-in-arms” would have a much better chance of accomplishing their goal to kill themselves and everyone else around them for the sake of Allah. If we succumb, they’ll succeed …

By Sebastian Smith, AFP – “NEW YORK — The high-profile trial began of a man accused of being part of a New York trio that was only ‘days’ from launching suicide bombs in the city’s crowded subway to take revenge for the US war in Afghanistan.

The trial in Brooklyn features New York immigrant Muslims who became radicalized in the feverish post-9/11 atmosphere and allegedly became homegrown terrorists with a plan to cause carnage in America’s biggest city.

Federal prosecutor James Loonam opened by pointing across the courtroom at defendant Adis Medunjanin, 27, and calling him an Al-Qaeda ‘terrorist.’

Loonam detailed how in September 2009 Medunjanin, along with two former New York high school friends, put final touches on a plan to bomb either the subway, Times Square, or another packed location.

‘Three men were prepared to strap bombs to their bodies and walk into crowded New York subway cars that were filled with innocent people,’ Loonam said. ‘These men came so close, within days of carrying out this attack, before they were stopped.’

Gesturing at Medunjanin, who wore a suit, the prosecutor said: ‘One of those Al-Qaeda terrorists is inside the courtroom right now.’

Medunjanin, a Bosnian whose family fled to the United States during the war with Serbia in the 1990s, is charged with nine terrorism-related counts.

He is accused of traveling to Pakistan in 2008 in a failed attempt to join the Taliban to fight against US forces in Afghanistan, then entering the bomb plot on his return home, and finally trying to use his car to cause bloodshed in a desperate last act before his arrest.

He has pleaded not guilty. His lawyer, Robert Gottlieb, said Medunjanin was only a passionate Muslim who wanted to go to Afghanistan because he was outraged by the US drone bombing of civilians and abuses in US military prisons.” Read more.

Egypt: Former Mubarak Intelligence Chief Warns Against War with Israel if Brotherhood Wins Presidential Election

04/16/2012 Leave a comment

There’s a very good reason why the Muslim Brotherhood was banned under Hosni Mubarak. Just don’t remind the current US administration. Reality would jolt President Obama out of a willingly blissful slumber …

By Elad Benari, INN – “A day after he was barred from the Egyptian presidential race, the country’s former intelligence chief warned Sunday against a win by the extreme Muslim Brotherhood.

Former intelligence chief Omar Suleiman, who was appointed by ex-President Hosni Mubarak as vice president in the dying days of his administration, was one of ten candidates who were barred from running in the May election on Saturday.

The Presidential Elections Commission (PEC) excluded Suleiman allegedly on the basis of the geographical distribution of the signatures on his candidacy registration, according to the daily Al-Masry Al-Youm.

The regulations call for a candidate’s application to include a minimum of 1,000 signatures from 15 separate governorates in order to qualify for the race.

On Sunday, according to a report on IDF Radio, Suleiman expressed his fear that Israel will have to invade the Sinai Peninsula if the Muslim Brotherhood ends up winning the presidential election.

The report cited an interview Suleiman gave to an Egyptian newspaper and in which he said, ‘I fear that incorrect judgments will push us into confrontations with Israel. The Sinai may become an area from which rockets are fired into Israel and the parties may be drawn into war.'” Read more.

Flashback: ‘Egypt will never be the friend, partner or ally of the Zionist entity which we consider as the first enemy of Egypt’ – “It’s amazing what ‘freedom’ has brought to Egypt. Rejecting $1 billion in US aid would almost be laughable, if the possible implications were not so serious. Last month the Muslim Brotherhood had apparently come to the conclusion that it was Halal to extort the United States by threatening, for all intents and purposes, to wage war against Israel if America cut off aid to Egypt. Now they’re threatening to reject it all together, and all this while making it loud and clear that Egypt will ‘never be the friend, partner or ally of the Zionist entity’, even moving to halt all gas exports to ‘the first enemy of Egypt’. It almost seems to me like the Islamists are itching for that war after all.” Read more.

‘One World… One Way… One God’: Islamic Conference Concludes Islam is the Key to Peace

04/16/2012 1 comment

What a shocker. The Dubai International Peace Convention pulls a Joe Biden and concludes that the global problem of Islamic terrorism can only be solved … with more Islam. Yes, while humming John Lennon and dreaming of freedom, please be advised that only the teachings of the whoever-changes-his-Islamic-religion-then-kill-him prophet of the “religion of peace” is the only way to truly give peace a chance. What the conference doesn’t outright tell you, of course, is that this “peace” can only be achieved when the world is “cleansed” of Jews and Christians, and all then submit to the rule of Islam …

Qur’an Sura 8:12b, “… terrorize and behead those who believe in scriptures other than the Qur’an.”

Qur’an Sura 3:85, “And whoever desires a religion other than Islam, it shall not be accepted from him, and in the hereafter he shall be one of the losers [in hell].”

Qur’an Sura 4:89, “Have no unbelieving friends. Kill the unbelievers wherever you find them.”

By Ahmed Shaaban – “Concluding three days of lectures and activities, the second edition of the Dubai International Peace Convention affirmed that Islam is the key to peace much sought after these days.

Altogether 150,000 people of different nationalities and religions attended the 16 lectures delivered by 12 scholars and spiritual gurus during the event.

The world congress, held under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE, is aimed to create a climate of intellectual cooperation and share the teachings of Islam in order to guide the world towards peace.

Dr Hamad Al Shaibani, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for World Peace, said the convention has been a wonderful platform for leading thinkers in the Muslim world to come together. ‘They have had a massive impact in raising awareness of our main objective, and we are delighted to have brought together different races and religions under one roof to create an interactive environment that perpetuates our vision of peace.’

Brotherhood in Islam’, the ‘status of women in Islam’, ‘Muhammad (PBUH) — the ambassador of peace’, ‘One world… One way… One God’, ‘action plan to achieve world peace’, the ‘role model for peace’, ‘how to build a peaceful family’, ‘the solutions for global crisis’, ‘peace in the light of the Holy Quran’, and ‘Peaceful coexistence… myth or reality’ were some of the issues spotlighted during the convention.” Read more.
