AFP – “Bamako – The Mauritanian Hamada Ould Mohamed Kheirou, presumed leader of an armed Islamist group active in west Africa, has again threatened France with war in a video seen Tuesday by an AFP journalist.

‘We again declare war on France, which is hostile to the interests of Islam,’ Kheirou said in Arabic, wearing dark glasses and with his head wrapped in a turban. ‘The jihad [holy war] will be exported everywhere it is necessary and for God, we must be ready for anything.’

The video also showed images of three Westerners – a Spanish man and woman and an Italian woman – who were kidnapped late in October in a camp for Sahrawi refugees near Tindouf in southern Algeria.

That kidnapping was claimed by Kheirou’s Movement for Unity and Justice in West Africa, which then emerged as a breakaway group from Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM), which originated in Algeria and now has bases in northern Mali.

The last part of the video was concerned with the ideology of the group and its ambitions, particularly ‘to impose shari’ah [Islamic law] across the whole of west Africa.’ Young black fighters were shown calling for ‘pure and tough’ Islam.” Read more.

Yet another reminder of the division that exists within the kingdom of Islam. Under Barack Obama’s “leadership” America was wrong again and history will indeed judge this President’s leadership — in the word’s of John McCain — with “scorn and disdain”, and sooner rather than later.  Today’s attack is just one more step on Iraq’s road to Iran …

BAGHDAD (AP) — “A wave of bombings targeting Shiites in Iraq killed 72 people on Thursday, deepening sectarian tensions that exploded just after the last American troops left the country in mid-December.

The coordinated attacks targeting Shiites bore the hallmarks of Sunni insurgents linked to al-Qaida, although there was no immediate claim of responsibility.

The bombings began early in the morning when explosions struck two Shiite neighborhoods in Baghdad, killing at least 27 people. A few hours later, a suicide attack hit Shiite pilgrims heading to the holy Shiite city of Karbala, killing 45, said provincial official Quosay al-Abadi. The explosions took place near Nasiriyah, about 200 miles (320 kilometers) southeast of Baghdad. Hospital officials confirmed the causalities.

The blasts occurred in the run-up to Arbaeen, a Shiite holy day which marks the end of 40 days of mourning that follow the anniversary of the death of Imam Hussein, a revered Shiite figure. During this time, Shiite pilgrims from across Iraq make their way to Karbala, south of Baghdad.

Baghdad military spokesman Maj. Gen. Qassim al-Moussawi said the aim of the attacks is ‘to create turmoil among the Iraqi people.’ He said it was too early to say who was behind the bombings.

The new violence will only exacerbate the country’s political crisis pitting politicians from the Shiite majority who dominate the government against the Sunni minority, which reigned supreme under the dictatorship of Saddam Hussein.” Read more.

Shia villagers forced out by Sunnis in Indonesia – “Several hundred Shia muslims in Indonesia have been forced to flee their village after Sunni muslims set fire to several buildings. A total of 351 Shia are now being sheltered in a sports stadium after their mosque, religious school and three houses at Nangkernang in eastern Java were burned by Sunni people on Saturday. Those responsible reportedly threatened to kill the Shia villagers because they believe it is a heretical form of islam. Ruby Khalifa, spokeswoman for AMAN, the Asian Muslim Action Network, says this incident is part of a disturbing trend towards greater religious intolerance in Indonesia.” Source – ABC Radio Australia.

Sensing a dangerous and deepening division within the Islamic kingdom, Turkish Foreign Minister Davutoglu is travelling to Iran in an effort to mend the Shia and Sunni lines of demarcation. But even if “al-Mahdi” were to arrive tonight and bring the two branches of Islam together under the banner of one mind, any apparent alliance would still be temporary, for what disunites the kingdom of Islam today will ultimately continue to disunite the kingdom of Islam tomorrow. Those who understand the times in which we live already know that this kingdom will remain fundamentally divided right up until the time when Messiah returns to remove it from the earth forever and establish His own everlasting Kingdom …

Reuters – “ANKARA – Middle East powerhouse Turkey on Wednesday warned against a sectarian Cold War in the region and said rising Sunni-Shi’ite tensions would be ‘suicide’ for the whole region.

‘Let me openly say that there are some willing to start a regional Cold War,’ Foreign Minster Ahmet Davutoglu told state-run Anatolian news agency before heading to Shi’ite Iran.

‘We are determined to prevent a regional Cold War. Sectarian regional tensions would be suicide for the whole region,’ Davutoglu said, adding such effects would last for decades.

‘Turkey is against all polarizations, in the political sense of Iran-Arab tension or in the sense of forming an apparent axis. This will be one of the crucial messages that I will take to Tehran.’

Majority Sunni Turkey, which borders Iran, Iraq and Syria, has attempted to play a moderating role as rivals Shi’ite Iran and Sunni powerhouse Saudi Arabia jockey for influence in a region undergoing sweeping changes brought on by ‘Arab Spring’ popular uprisings.

Davutoglu is expected to hold talks in Tehran later on Wednesday on Iran’s nuclear program and developments in neighboring Iraq and Syria.” Read more.

Flashback: Saudi King Calls for the Formation of a Sunni Arab Super State Into One Unified Diplomatic and Military Confederation – “King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia formally called for the formation of a Gulf Union on a backdrop of regional unrest and growing tensions with rival Iran. ‘I ask today that we move from a phase of cooperation to a phase of union within a single entity,’ Abdullah said during his address at the opening session of the six-member Gulf Cooperation Council conference in Riyadh.” Read more.

Not only is Obama naive in his attitude and engagement with the Muslim Brotherhood, he is also naive when it comes to anything that has to do with Islam and America’s own national security.  Frankly speaking, addle-brained incompetence married to political correctness has weakened the effectiveness of federal agencies tasked with the responsibility of protecting the American people at home, and relying on the hope that an attack will be unsuccessful because a bomb fails to detonate isn’t good enough.  If, God forbid, a major terror attack were to happen again on American soil, one of the very first things that a responsible mainstream media should examine under a microscope is not the mind of a disturbed “peanut-butter-and-jelly” jihadist wannabe who “misunderstands” Islam, but rather the policies of the Oval Office’s current occupant …

By Tzvi Ben Gedalyahu – “Israel’s National Security Council thinks that President Barack Obama is naïve in his attitude towards the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood, which stated Sunday it can’t fathom the idea of recognizing Israel.

Dr. Rashad Bayumi, the Brotherhood’s number two leader, said on Sunday, ‘No Muslim Brotherhood members will engage in any contact or normalization with Israel.’

President Obama has asked the Muslim Brotherhood’s leading jurist, Yusuf al-Qaradawi, to mediate secret talks between the United States and the Taliban, according to The Hindu newspaper. The jurist previously has called for killing U.S. soldiers in Iraq and has vowed that Islam ‘will conquer Europe [and] will conquer America,’ whether by force or by the spread of radical Islam.

In early 2010, when American foreign policy experts could not imagine that the radical Muslim Brotherhood would emerge as the most powerful political force in Egypt, President Obama dismissed the party as a ‘faction,’ adding that ‘they don’t have majority support in Egypt. But they’re well organized. There are strains of their ideology that are anti-U.S.’

Less than a year afterwards, the Brotherhood has emerged as the winner of the first three rounds of legislative elections in the post-Mubarak period. Its closest contender represents the even more radical Salafist Muslim sect.

Last summer, the official Obama administration policy changed from shunning the Muslim Brotherhood to ‘engaging’ it. Last month, Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Senator John Kerry met in Cairo with top members of Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood.” Read more.

Reuters – “A young man dressed as ‘Father Frost’ – the Russian equivalent of Father Christmas – was stabbed to death in Tajikistan on Monday in an attack police believe was motivated by religious hatred, two police sources said.

A crowd attacked 24-year-old Parviz Davlatbekov and stabbed him with a knife as he visited relatives in the early hours of Monday dressed as Father Frost, who by tradition brings Russian children presents at New Year. Russian cultural influence remains strong in Tajikistan, a former Soviet republic.

“We have witness statements that say the crowd beat Parviz and stabbed him with a knife, shouting: ‘You infidel!’,” one of the sources told Reuters.

The second source said religious hatred was being investigated as the motive for the crime, which occurred in the capital Dushanbe.

Tajikistan is officially secular, although the vast majority of its 7.7 million people are Muslims. Authorities have cracked down on religious freedoms in the last few years and jailed dozens of people for membership of Islamist groups.

President Imomali Rakhmon has ordered students at foreign religious schools to return home and told his security services to tighten control over religious education and mosques in Tajikistan, which he says are often used to foment radicalism.” Read more.

Dr. Refaat al-Saeed, leader of the Tagama’ Party [the socialist ‘Rally’ party], said that both the Muslim Brotherhood and the Salafis violated the law during elections by using religious slogans, although the Elections Committee did not bother to reprimand or punish any of them. They utilized mosques and used unprecedented, underhanded, and devious propaganda in their elections campaign. They also deceitfully portrayed the [Coptic] Church as backing the Egyptian Bloc to turn people against the Bloc.

He added: ‘We need to be careful, as the Muslim Brotherhood will be become much more savage after elections.’

During a phone call with Life Today talk show, Dr. Saeed added: ‘A niqab-wearing woman affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood had fifteen IDs collected from other women in her neighborhood and used them to vote 15 times. The Brotherhood even claimed that a particular candidate had died—and went so far as to pray al-Fatiha for his soul outside the polling station—until this candidate went to the polling stations to prove to his constituents that he is still alive.’

The leader of the Tagama’ Party said that the Muslim Brotherhood played a dirty game in these elections and should be reprimanded, especially for opening the ballot boxes and fiddling with their content yesterday in the De La Salle School—and still the Elections Committee took no action against them.” Source – Coptic Solidarity.
