Nigeria: Muslim Extremists Killing Christians in Two States in Effort to ‘Cleanse’ Islamic Land, Entire Christian Families Among Those Killed

“MADALA, Nigeria, September 27 (CDN) — Muslim extremists bent on ridding Nigeria’s volatile middle region of Christianity killed five Christians in Niger state on Thursday (Sept. 22) and three others the previous week in the north-central state of Kaduna, including a 13-year-old girl, sources said.

Suspected militants from the Boko Haram Islamic sect in the Niger state town of Madala went to shops owned by Christians at a market at about 8 p.m., ordering them to recite verses from the Quran, eyewitnesses told Compass. If the Christian traders were unable to recite the verses, the gunmen shot and killed them, they said.

The sound of the gunshots compelled Christians to call police in nearby Suleja, and officers arrived to find five Christians had already been killed. Richard Adamu Oguche, a spokesman for the Niger State Police Command in the state capital of Minna, confirmed that five Christians had been killed.

He told Compass the attack was linked to members of the Boko Haram Islamic sect who have recently bombed Christian sites.

Killed in the Madala market attacks were Sunday Emmanuel, John Kalu, Uche Nguweze, and Oliver Ezemah. The identity of the fifth Christian was not immediately known as witnesses could not identify him.” Read more.

Iran Begins Large-Scale Production of New Cruise Missile Capable of Destroying Warships

“Iran says it’s started large-scale production of a domestically-developed cruise missile designed for sea-based targets and capable of destroying warships.

Defense Minister Gen. Ahmad Vahidi said an unspecified number of samples of ‘Ghader,’ or ‘Capable’ as the missile is called in Farsi, were delivered to the Revolutionary Guard’s navy, assigned to protect Iran’s sea borders. His remarks were reported by state TV on Wednesday.

The cruise missile has a range of 124 miles (200 kilometers). It can reportedly travel at low altitudes and has a lighter weight and smaller dimensions.

Iran’s growing arsenal is raising concerns, including its short and medium range ballistic missiles capable of hitting targets in the region such as Israel and U.S. military bases in the Gulf.

On Tuesday, the French envoy to the UN warned Iran on that it risks a military strike if it continues to develop its nuclear program.” Read more.

Oregon: ‘Outspoken Proponent of the Peaceful Aspects of Islam’ Charity Leader Sentenced to Nearly 3 Years in Prison for Supporting Terrorism

By JEFF BARNARD – “EUGENE, Ore. — The leader of the U.S. branch of a defunct Islamic charity was sentenced Tuesday to nearly three years in prison after being convicted of helping smuggle $150,000 to Saudi Arabia.

U.S. District Judge Michael Hogan said that while he has no doubt the money went to Islamic fighters battling the Russian army in Chechnya, as the prosecution maintained, there’s no proof directly linking Pete Seda to terrorism.

For that reason, Hogan said he wouldn’t apply the so-called ‘terrorism enhancement’ that could have sent Seda to prison for eight years. Instead, Hogan sentenced Seda to 33 months in prison, ordered him to pay the Internal Revenue Service $80,980 in restitution, and allowed him to remain free for 60 days before reporting.

Seda, also known as Pirouz Sedaghaty, is an Iranian-born U.S. citizen who ran the U.S. chapter of the al-Haramain Islamic Foundation based in Ashland. He worked in Ashland as a tree surgeon and was an outspoken proponent of the peaceful aspects of Islam. He was known for marching in the local July 4 parade with his camel.

Seda was convicted last year of tax fraud and conspiracy to defraud the government for helping Saudi Arabian national Soliman Al-Buthe convert a contribution from a doctor in England into traveler’s checks, which Al-Buthe took with him on a flight to Saudi Arabia without declaring it to authorities. Prosecutors have been unable to force Al-Buthe to return to the U.S. to face the same charges as Seda.

Acting U.S. Attorney Dwight Holton said federal prosecutors felt they had proven Seda’s connection to terrorism, but respected the court’s ruling and were satisfied with the sentence.” Read more.

“A 26-year-old Massachusetts man was arrested Wednesday and accused of plotting to blow up the Pentagon and U.S. Capitol using large remote-controlled aircraft laden with explosives, as well as attempting to assist Al Qaeda in attacking U.S. troops overseas.

Rezwan Ferdaus of Ashland, Mass., was arrested Wednesday in Framingham after undercover FBI agents delivered weapons Ferdaus allegedly sought for the alleged plan. The stash included what he thought was 25 pounds of C-4 explosives, as well as three grenades and six fully-automatic AK-47 assault, a press release from the Department of Justice reads.

Ferdaus was arrested after he took the the materials and locked them in his storage unit, according to an affadavit that says the storage unit was rented under a false name in June.

The public was never in danger from the explosives, as undercover agents monitored the alleged plot and kept up frequent contact with Ferdaus, the press release read. More than 30 federal, state and local agencies in the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force worked together in the operation, including police departments in Worcester, Ashland and Framingham.” Read more.

Report: Iranian Navy Announces They Will Send Military Warships Close to the US Atlantic Coast

09/27/2011 Leave a comment

“TEHRAN (Reuters) – Iran raised the prospect on Tuesday of sending military ships close to the United States’ Atlantic coast, in what would be a major escalation of tensions between the long-standing adversaries.

‘Like the arrogant powers that are present near our marine borders, we will also have a powerful presence close to American marine borders,’ the head of the Navy, Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said, according to the official IRNA news agency.

Speaking at a ceremony marking the 31st anniversary of the start of the 1980-1988 war with Iraq, Sayyari gave no details of when such a deployment could happen or the number or type of vessels to be used.

The declaration comes just weeks after Turkey said it would host a NATO early warning radar system which will help spot missile threats from outside Europe, including potentially from Iran. The decision has angered Tehran which had enjoyed close relations with Ankara.

And it comes a few months after Iran sent warships through the Suez canal, after the fall of former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, the first time the Islamic Republic had deployed navy vessels in the Mediterranean.” Read more.

Iran just months away from nuclear bomb – “IRAN may be just six months away from developing a nuclear bomb, despite international attempts to thwart the program through sanctions and cyber attacks. Two years after an underground installation in the city of Qmo was revealed in a joint press conference by US President Barack Obama, French President Nicolas Sarkozy and former British prime minister Gordon Brown, Iran has significantly advanced its uranium enrichment program at the site… ‘We believe if Iran broke out now they could have a bomb in six months,’ said David Albright, a former weapons inspector who runs the Institute for Science and International Security in Washington. ‘They’ve done this right in front of our faces.’” Read more.

Israel Hits Back at Turkey as Tensions Soar, Foreign Minister Says Erdogan is a ‘Radical Islamic Extremist’

09/27/2011 Leave a comment

The fact that attacking Israel is a major, central feature in all of Erdogan’s speeches during his tours of Egypt, Libya and Tunisia speaks volumes in terms of why this man is as popular as he is …

By Abraham Rabinovich – “REPLYING for the first time to Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s almost daily tongue lashings of Israel, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu yesterday termed Mr Erdogan’s latest accusation – that Israel has killed hundreds of thousands of Palestinians — ‘outrageous’.

Israel’s outspoken Foreign Minister, Avigdor Lieberman, waded into the fray by declaring that Mr Erdogan’s administration was ‘a radical Islamic extremist leadership that supports and develops terror’.

Mr Erdogan’s attacks on Israel, which have included warnings of naval confrontations, ostensibly stem from Mr Netanyahu’s refusal to apologise for the killing of nine Turkish militants aboard an aid flotilla that attempted last year to break Israel’s naval blockade of the Gaza Strip.

Mr Netanyahu expressed sorrow for their deaths but declined to apologise for the use of force by Israeli naval commandos against men who attacked them with knives and metal staves as they descended from a helicopter.

He also rejected Mr Erdogan’s demand for a lifting of the blockade, which is intended to prevent rockets reaching Gaza by sea.

The Turkish leader began venting his fury after a UN committee, headed by former New Zealand prime minister Geoffrey Palmer, issued a report a month ago finding that, contrary to Turkey’s position, the Israeli blockade was legal, as was its boarding of the flotilla on the high seas. It faulted Israel for using excessive force, but acknowledged that the commandos who boarded the vessels were obliged to use force when attacked by the militants.

The Turkish leader ordered the termination of extensive defence contracts and other dealings with Israeli firms and recalled his ambassador to Tel Aviv. He also threatened to send warships to dispute Israeli claims to gas-rich underwater tracts in the eastern Mediterranean. No less ominous were his warning to send warships to protect Turkish aid vessels running Israel’s blockade of Gaza, an almost certain scenario for war, at least at sea.

In a tour of Egypt, Libya and Tunisia, his attacks on Israel were a central feature of all his talks.” Read more.

Indonesia: Suicide Bomber Attacks Packed Indonesian Church, Victims Respond … With Forgiveness

09/27/2011 Leave a comment

“Jakarta – A suicide bomber attacked a packed Indonesian church Sunday wounding at least 27 people, some critically, and sending terrified worshippers rushing out into the streets in panic.

The morning bombing in the city of Solo, in Central Java, was the latest in a spate of attacks on minority religious groups in the world’s most populous Muslim-majority nation.

Solo, a city of 500,000, is the home of militant Islamist spiritual leader Abu Bakar Bashir, who was jailed in June for 15 years for funding a terrorist group that was planning attacks against Westerners and political leaders.

Kristanto, a worshipper, said he and his wife were getting ready to leave at the end of the service at the Bethel Injil Church when the bomb rocked the building.

‘I was about to head home when a very loud explosion shocked me. A crowd of people from inside the church rushed to the streets,’ he told AFP.

‘They were screaming and very hysterical. The peaceful Sunday has quickly become a chaotic situation.'” Read more.

Victims of suicide attack respond by forgiving bomber – “… Paul Estabrooks with Open Doors says the reasons behind the attacks may be complicated, but essentially it’s a matter of Muslim extremist agendas. ‘The strong Muslim community — and especially the extremist group among them — wants to establish Sharia law throughout the island,’ explains Estabrooks. ‘They see the church as the biggest stumbling block in the way of their plan.’ … Believers are traumatized and in need of prayer for healing, but just two days later some are already responding with Christ’s grace. One of the injured victims, Hari Daniel Restono, told Open Doors that he forgives the bomber. ‘A young, 17-year-old injured victim of this terrible explosion says that he’s already forgiven the bomber because he thought that what he was doing was the right way to practice his religion,’ says Estabrooks. This kind of forgiveness may open doors to share Christ’s love and the message of salvation.” Read more.

Iran’s Watch on Christians Intensifies, Says Open Doors USA

09/27/2011 1 comment

By Alex Murashko – “The Iranian government’s tracking of Christians in Iran has intensified over the last several months, according to Open Doors USA, an organization that provides help to persecuted believers in Jesus worldwide.

In Iran, Christians gather in house churches, which are being increasingly discovered. Members are then subjected to various forms of harassment, including imprisonment, job termination and separation from family.

Open Doors estimates that there are 350,000 Christians from a Muslim background living in Iran. The country’s current regime lost credibility following the turmoil of the 2009 elections, and in an effort to distract attention from continuing protests, it is increasingly lashing out against Christians, Open Doors USA leaders say.

Michael Wood, an American who works in the Middle East office of Open Doors USA, told The Christian Post that the house church movement in Iran is one of the fastest growing in the world. However, the Iranian government is doing its best to squelch the movement, he said.

‘Over the last few months they have made a really strong attempt to undermine what’s going on in the house church movement. They are tearing apart meeting places. If they find out somebody has been involved in a house church group they are arrested or really intimidated,’ Wood said. ‘They are listened to on their cell phones. Houses will be broken into and Bibles and Christian material will be confiscated.'” Read more.

Iran: Imprisoned Christian Pastor Will Not Return to Islam and Renounce Christ, Execution Set For As Early As September 29

Hebrews 13:3, “Remember those in prison as if you were their fellow prisoners, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering.”

Sahih Bukhari 52:260, “… The Prophet [Mohammed] said, ‘If somebody discards his [Islamic] religion, kill him.” (Hadith)

John 16:2b, “… the time is coming when those who kill you will think they are doing a holy service for God.”

By Stefan J. Bos – “RASHT, IRAN (Worthy News) – A young pastor of Iran’s largest house church movement has told an Iranian court he will not ‘recant’ his faith in Christ despite facing execution as early as Thursday, September 29, for abandoning Islam, church sources said.

Pastor Youcef Nadarkhani of the Church of Iran was asked by the Gilan provincial court in the city of Rasht to ‘repent’ ahead of his next hearing Tuesday, September 27. However Nadarkhani declined, according to comments obtained by BosNewsLife.

‘Repent means to return. What should I return to? To the blasphemy that I had before my faith in Christ?,’ the 34-year-old church leader asked during his first hearing Sunday, September 25.

When the court told him to return ‘to the religion of your ancestors, Islam’ Nadarkhani replied: ‘I can not.’

The Court said however that Youcef Nadarkhani, whose first name is also spelled as Yousef, has ‘Islamic ancestry’ and therefore ‘must recant his faith in Jesus Christ,’ trial observers said.

Yet, fellow Christians following the trial described Youcef Nadarkhani as ‘being happy [with] his faith strong.'” Read more.

Iran Just Months From Nuclear Bomb, Turkish Premier Signals Joint Operation With Iran and Calls For Azerbaijan To Join Them Against Israel

It’s not difficult to figure out who Erdogan and Ahmadinajad would just love to team up against next.  They’re just signing up as many nations to bring with them as possible on the offensive of all offensives …

Psalm 83:2-4, “For behold, Your enemies make a tumult; And those who hate You have lifted up their head. They have taken crafty counsel against Your people, And consulted together against Your sheltered ones. They have said, ‘Come, and let us cut them off from [being] a nation, That the name of Israel may be remembered no more.'”

“IRAN may be just six months away from developing a nuclear bomb, despite international attempts to thwart the program through sanctions and cyber attacks.

Two years after an underground installation in the city of Qmo was revealed in a joint press conference by US President Barack Obama, French President Nicolas Sarkozy and former British prime minister Gordon Brown, Iran has significantly advanced its uranium enrichment program at the site.

The latest report from the International Atomic Energy Agency concludes that Iran has not only boosted production but upgraded the level of enrichment from 3.5 per cent to almost 20 per cent and has installed more sophisticated centrifuges, which it is moving to the bunker in Qom, apparently to protect them from airstrikes.

Low-enriched uranium is used for nuclear power, which Iran insists is the purpose of its program.Weapons-grade uranium is about 90 per cent enriched.

‘We believe if Iran broke out now they could have a bomb in six months,’ said David Albright, a former weapons inspector who runs the Institute for Science and International Security in Washington. ‘They’ve done this right in front of our faces.'” Read more.

Turkey to Azerbaijan: Stand with us against Israel – “The Turkish ambassador to Azerbaijan called on Baku to stand beside Ankara in its diplomatic struggle against Israel and “reconsider” its relations with the Jewish State, a Persian-language US-based website reported on Sunday… Azerbaijan has become an important strategic asset for Israel’s security and foreign affairs. In 2010, the trade between the two countries totaled more than $2 billion – double than the trade between Azerbaijan and Turkey.” Read more.

Turkey Predicts Alliance With Egypt as Regional Anchors – “A newly assertive Turkey offered on Sunday a vision of a starkly realigned Middle East, where the country’s former allies in Syria and Israel fall into deeper isolation, and a burgeoning alliance with Egypt underpins a new order in a region roiled by revolt and revolution. The portrait was described by Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu of Turkey in an hourlong interview before he was to leave for the United Nations, where a contentious debate was expected this week over a Palestinian bid for recognition as a state. Viewed by many as the architect of a foreign policy that has made Turkey one of the most relevant players in the Muslim world, Mr. Davutoglu pointed to that issue and others to describe a region in the midst of a transformation. Turkey, he said, was ‘right at the center of everything.'” Read more.

UNSC to Consider Palestinian Bid on Monday 9/26/2011

09/25/2011 Leave a comment

“The UN Security Council is due to consider the Palestinians’ bid for UN membership next Monday, September 26th . The Palestinian National Administration Head Mahmoud Abbas handed over his request to recognize Palestine’s independence and grant it full UN membership rights to the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Friday.

Abbas also urged Israel to resume bilateral talks. The Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said, for his part, that peace is achieved through talks, rather than resolutions.

The quartet of international mediators in a Middle East settlement, namely Russia, the United States, the European Union and the United Nations also urged Israel and the Palestinians to start talks without delay. The Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said earlier that Russia would vote for the recognition of Palestine’s independence at the United Nations, but would prefer the Palestinian problem to be resolved through reaching a consensus.

The UN Security Council will examine the Palestinians’ request to recognize their state as sovereign on September 26. The information comes from Chairman of the Security Council Nawaf Salam.

On Friday, Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas sent UN Head Ban Ki-moon an official request to recognize his Autonomy as an independent and sovereign state and grant it membership in the UN.

If the Palestinians fail to secure UN membership the General Assembly may still grant them the observer-state rights which will allow Palestine to sue Israel in the International Criminal Court.” Read more.
