“Tripoli (AsiaNews) – Benghazi-based rebels took Brega over night. The town, which is 740 km east of Tripoli, is the country’s main oil hub. The National Transitional Council (NTC) called the fall of the city its greatest victory since the war against Gaddafi began. However, doubts remain about rebel intentions. Human Rights Watch (HRW) has accused them of retaliatory violence against pro-Gaddafi regime civilians.

In a recent report, HRW said rebels looted and torched homes in towns that had fallen under TNC control. In villages south of Tripoli, Gaddafi loyalists were beaten, their houses set on fire.

Tiziana Gamannossi, an Italian businesswoman in Tripoli, told AsiaNews that the rebels’ push is causing fear in the civilian population. ‘The rebels threatened me and some of my aides at a checkpoint between Tripolitania and Cyrenaica,’ she said. ‘They seize women to get money, forcing men to get out of their cars to bargain.’

In her view, NATO is funding and arming violent groups that lack any training or code of honour. ‘Gaddafi’s soldiers committed crimes but they did not harm me, letting me to do my job even though the Italian government is involved in military operations.'” Read more.

The headless corpse, the mass grave and worrying questions about Libya’s rebel army – “The streaks of blood, smeared along the sides of this impromptu mass grave suggested a rushed operation, a hurried attempt to dispose of the victims. Who the men were and what happened to them, close to the Libyan rebels’ western front line town of Al-Qawalish in the Nafusa Mountains, remains unknown. But the evidence of a brutal end were clear. One of the corpses had been cleanly decapitated, while the trousers of another had been ripped down to his ankles, a way of humiliating a dead enemy. The green uniforms were the same as those worn by loyalists fighting for Col. Muammer Gaddafi in Libya’s civil war.” Read more.

“Tehran, 20 July (AKI) – Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has threatened to destroy the United States and Israel if put on the defensive.

‘Resistance will continue until Iran sends its enemies to the morgue,’ he said on his website, making a reference to the US and Israel who he said are ‘on the verge of collapse and gasping for their last breathes.’

Ahmadinejad may have been reacting to news from Iranian state media that Iran brought down a U.S. ‘spy drone’ flying near its Fordo nuclear enrichment plant in Qom province.

State-run Press TV didn’t say when the incident happened. US officials said there were unaware that a US unmanned aircraft was downed, according to news reports.

The Islamic Republic, Ahmadinejad said on his website ‘is the region’s greatest military power.'” Source.

By Tim Marshall – “To lunch with Israel’s Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon where the talk is of little other than the proposed United Nations vote on full recognition of a Palestinian state as proposed by President Abbas.

The Minister opens with ‘The way to end the conflict is not unilateral action, they must not change the rules of the game’ . He continued ‘ It would be confrontational because it’s against the agreements we have made. By breaking the agreements they also release us from the agreements’.

The vote may not happen. Many countries oppose it knowing it would be only symbolic and could lead to violence. But President Abbas has boxed himself in. If there is no vote, the pent up frustrations of Palestinians could erupt against both the Israelis and the Palestinian leadership. If there is a vote, and nothing changes, the same could happen.

Mr Ayalon warned against a third intifada. ‘If there is violence they will lose all their achievements on the ground. Were the last two intifadas to their advantage? I don’t think so’. Behind that statement is the truth that there has been an economic boom in the West Bank albeit one built somewhat on sand. There are new hotels, cafes, restaurants and businesses. These would all likely be smashed if there was another round of fighting.” Read more.

Jailed Palestinian leader Barghouti calls for mass rallies to back UN statehood bid – “Jailed leader Marwan Barghouti has called on Palestinians to stage mass rallies in September in support of a diplomatic bid to gain UN membership for a state of Palestine. Barghouti, a figure widely respected among many Palestinians, said taking the statehood quest to the United Nations was part of a new strategy that would open the door to ‘peaceful, popular resistance’… Israel is wary that the September bid could serve as a trigger for protests inspired by uprisings across the region.” Read more.

What else does the oh-so-angry West expect when they’ve allowed the Iranians to get away with everything they have ever said or done? …

By Julian Borger – “Western capitals have reacted angrily to an announcement by Iran that it is installing more advanced centrifuges in a uranium enrichment plant with the aim of accelerating its nuclear programme.

‘The installation of new centrifuges with better quality and speed is ongoing,’ Ramin Mehmanparast, the Iranian foreign ministry spokesman, told reporters at his weekly press briefing.

‘We have announced it and the agency [the International Atomic Energy Agency] has full supervision of them. They are fully aware that Iran’s peaceful nuclear activity continues to progress. This is another confirmation of the Islamic republic’s successful strides in its nuclear activities.’

However, France said Iran’s move – which Tehran claims could triple the rate at which it enriches uranium – confirmed suspicions that the Iranian nuclear programme had ‘no credible civilian application’. The French foreign ministry said: ‘Iran has just given in to another provocation by announcing the imminent installation of next generation centrifuges.’

‘This is a new violation of six security council resolutions and 10 resolutions by the council of governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency [IAEA].'” Read more.

Iran claims to have shot down a US spy plane over nuclear site – “Iran has shot down an unmanned U.S. spy plane over its Fordu nuclear site, a state-run website reported Wednesday, a day after it confirmed it was installing a new generation of advanced uranium enrichment centrifuges. ‘An unmanned U.S. spy plane flying over the holy city of Qom near the uranium enrichment Fordu site was shot down by the Revolutionary Guards’ air defense units,’ MP Ali Aghazadeh Dafsari was quoted as saying by the Youth Journalists Club, affiliated to Iran’s state TV.” Read more.

This 73% is not relegated to only young active male jihadists, either.  And I would venture to guess that the number of Palestinian Muslims who want to see the Jews annihilated would be even higher if we were to factor out the number of Palestinian Christians who may have been included in this survey …

Because you harbored an ancient hostility and delivered the Israelites over to the sword at the time of their calamity, the time their punishment reached its climax, therefore as surely as I live, declares the Sovereign LORD, I will give you over to bloodshed and it will pursue you. Since you did not hate bloodshed, bloodshed will pursue you.’”

By Andrew G. Bostom – “Data have just been released from a survey completed this week which confirm the implacable, murderous irredentism of Israel’s Palestinian Muslim ‘peace partners.’

American pollster Stanley Greenberg performed what is described as an ‘intensive, face-to-face survey in Arabic of 1,010 Palestinian adults in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.’

Here are the salient, pathognomonic findings:

First, a mere 73% of the Palestinians surveyed agree with the annihilationist dictates of this canonical hadith (the words and deeds of Islam’s prophet Muhammad which have a weight often equal to the Koran), quoted in the Hamas Covenant.

As characterized in the hadith, Muslim eschatology — end of times theology — highlights the Jews’ supreme hostility to Islam. Jews are described as adherents of the Dajjâl — the Muslim equivalent of the Anti-Christ — or according to another tradition, the Dajjâl is himself Jewish. At his appearance, other traditions maintain that the Dajjâl will be accompanied by 70,000 Jews from Isfahan, or Jerusalem, wrapped in their robes, and armed with polished sabers, their heads covered with a sort of veil. When the Dajjâl is defeated, his Jewish companions will be slaughtered — everything will deliver them up except for the so-called gharkad tree, as per the canonical hadith (Sahih Muslim, Book 41, Number 6985) included in the 1988 Hamas Covenant (in article 7). The hadith– which ¾ of those surveyed agree should be acted upon — is cited in the Covenant as a sacralized, obligatory call for a Muslim genocide of the Jews:” Read more.

Gaza and the West Bank: 31 Opportunities for Statehood Squandered in Favor of Genocide – “There is an eerie déjà vu about an unmistakable and oft-repeated process in the Arab–Israel conflict. The process started in 1937 and has repeated itself with minor variations many times over the subsequent 74 years. The process is as follows: Arabs go to war with Israel, promising Israel’s destruction and the annihilation of its Jews. Israel wins the war and offers peace. Arab leaders reject Israel’s peace offer, renew their promises of destruction and annihilation; and after a while they go to war again, and lose again, and Israel again offers peace. Repeat this process 31 times and you have the history of the Arab-Israel conflict in a nutshell.” Read more.

Israeli Doctor Saves Life of 4 Month Old Palestinian Boy, Mother Then Says She Would Be Proud if He Grew Up to be a Suicide Bomber – “… And even after the funding has been secured and the transplant performed, Mohammed’s mother, Raida, makes a statement that calls into question all the efforts to save his life. As she and the filmmaker, Israeli TV reporter Shlomi Eldar, discuss the status of Jerusalem, Raida says she would be proud to see her son grow up to be a suicide bomber. ‘Even the smallest infant, younger than Mohammed, to the oldest person, we’ll all sacrifice ourselves for Jerusalem,’ she says. Asked by a dumbfounded Mr. Eldar whether she would let Mohammed become a shahid, or martyr, if he recovers, she replies, ‘Absolutely.
