Eight years ago, after Benedict XVI gave his controversial Regensburg address, most European commentators were shamefully timid in their response. Most refused to raise their heads above the parapet, preferring the coward’s option of not making any response at all. In the light of this continuing cowardly silence, it is timely to remind ourselves of the ugly face of Islamic fundamentalism.

At the darkened heart of radical Islam is what Bishop Nazir-Ali, the former Anglican Bishop of Rochester, has called a ‘dual psychology … of victimhood, but also the desire for domination.’ In my own homeland numerous new mosques have sprung up across the country, many of which are being staffed by fundamentalist clerics. Such extremism seems to flourish in the pluralistic climate of so-called multiculturalism and has contributed to the alienation of so many young Muslims from the society into which most of them have lived all their lives.

The alienation works in both directions with many Britons feeling alienated from their self-ghettoised Muslim neighbours. In a recent poll, one in five Britons stated their belief that ‘a large proportion of British Muslims feel no sense of loyalty to this country and are prepared to condone or even carry out acts of terrorism’ and more than half of those polled considered Islam a threat. These frightening figures caused the writer and historian Niall Ferguson to conclude, with characteristic candour, that a terrorist attack could be ‘the trigger for the next English civil war.’ Since Ferguson also stated that he suspected a terrorist attack as being ‘bound to happen … sooner or later,’ he was effectively saying that England has a loaded weapon pointed at its head, with the trigger poised.

The polarization of British society into mutually antagonistic factions has forced even the most dyed-in-the-wool pluralists to concede that multiculturalism has proved a dismal and destructive failure…

Even stranger than the sight of members of the Labour Party coming to their senses is the sight of Hollywood actors speaking words of prophecy. John Rhys-Davies, the actor who plays Gimli the Dwarf in Peter Jackson’s adaptation of Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings, spoke with ominous potency on the deeper meaning of Tolkien’s epic: ‘I think that Tolkien says that some generations will be challenged, and if they do not rise to meet that challenge, they will lose their civilization.’ Then, with that gift of ‘applicability’ which Tolkien himself proclaimed was the way in which his work should be read in relation to events in the world, Mr. Rhys-Davies drew some sobering conclusions…” Read more.

By Kennial Caroline Laia & Dyah Ayu Pitaloka, The Jakarta Globe – “Imprisoned terrorist convict Abu Bakar Ba’asyir has officially pledged his allegiance, or bai’at, to join the jihadist movement of a militant group known as the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, or ISIS, according to an official, who says that the list of Indonesian Muslim supporters for the radical movement only continues to grow.

‘We had already tightened prison security, but unfortunately they [met] in rooms we didn’t suspect [they would use],’ said Handoyo Sudrajat, the penitentiary directorate general at the Ministry of Legal and Human Rights Affairs.

Ba’asyir, the spiritual leader of the Indonesian terror network Jamaah Islamiyah, made his bai’at to ISIS with 23 other prisoners in a praying room of what was supposed to be the highly secured Pasir Putih penitentiary on Nusakambangan Island off Cilacap, Central Java.

Meanwhile, Habib Rizieq Shihab of the Muslim hard-line Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) denied that his organization had denounced ISIS.

‘The FPI has yet decide whether it will support or refuse the establishment of ISIS [in Indonesia],’ he was quoted as saying by Kompas.com, adding that FPI leaders would assess the rapidly growing Iraqi movement to decide whether it has deviated from Islamic teachings.

As ISIS garners more support in various pockets of Indonesia, anxiety has also escalated among its citizens over the jihadist movement gaining strength within the archipelago.

The Central Java government recently discovered that a local branch of ISIS’s has been active in Sempu, Malang, for at least a month. Calling themselves Ansharul Khilafah, the cell have reportedly been using a village mosque as their headquarters.

‘I was tagged about the establishment [of Ansharullah Khilafah] on Facebook, so my friends and I went [to the mosque]. There was a video screening and a sermon about ISIS. They handed out Al Mustaqbal magazines, brochures and vouchers for fried chicken,’ Malang resident Aji Prase told the Jakarta Globe.

‘We are worried about the [existence of ISIS], which is notorious for its brutal force and violence. They won’t hesitate to kill anyone who doesn’t fall in line with [their ideology]. We don’t want Malang to be its headquarters, because this would only bring violence here,’ he added.

In a mere week the militant group’s influence has reportedly spread to several other areas of Central Java, particularly Solo. A number of media portals have reported scores of Surakarta Muslims pledging their oath to ISIS.” Read more.

By Joe Kovacs, WND – “More claims of divine intervention are being reported in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, with an operator of Israel’s Iron Dome missile-defense system saying he personally witnessed ‘the hand of God’ diverting an incoming rocket out of harm’s way.

Israel Today translated a report from a Hebrew-language news site, which noted the Iron Dome battery failed three times to intercept an incoming rocket headed toward Tel Aviv last week.

The commander recalled: ‘A missile was fired from Gaza. Iron Dome precisely calculated [its trajectory]. We know where these missiles are going to land down to a radius of 200 meters. This particular missile was going to hit either the Azrieli Towers, the Kirya (Israel’s equivalent of the Pentagon) or [a central Tel Aviv railway station]. Hundreds could have died.

‘We fired the first [interceptor]. It missed. Second [interceptor]. It missed. This is very rare. I was in shock. At this point we had just four seconds until the missile lands. We had already notified emergency services to converge on the target location and had warned of a mass-casualty incident.

‘Suddenly, Iron Dome (which calculates wind speeds, among other things) shows a major wind coming from the east, a strong wind that … sends the missile into the sea. We were all stunned. I stood up and shouted, ‘There is a God!’

‘I witnessed this miracle with my own eyes. It was not told or reported to me. I saw the hand of God send that missile into the sea.’

‘Their God changes the path of our rockets in mid-air, said a terrorist,’ was the headline in the July 18 edition of the Jewish Telegraph.

It was a partial quote from Barbara Ordman, who lives in Ma’ale Adumim on the West Bank.

Her exact quotation was: ‘As one of the terrorists from Gaza was reported to say when asked why they couldn’t aim their rockets more effectively: “We do aim them, but their God changes their path in mid-air.’

She opened her piece by noting: ‘In October 1956, [Israeli Prime Minister] David Ben Gurion was interviewed by CBS. He stated: ‘In Israel, in order to be a realist, you must believe in miracles.’'” Read more.

“Everyone Like Him Will Have The Same End”: Muslims Behead Christian After Forcing Him To Deny Christ And Salute Mohammed As Allah’s Messenger

“Convert to Islam or you will be beheaded” is one of the messages being communicated to Christians throughout much of the Muslim world today. But conversion, it seems, guarantees nothing. Here is a man who was a Christian and had been guaranteed the promise of eternal life through faith in Christ — right up until he denied Him. Now, I can assure you that some will claim that a Christian can never lose their salvation and, since this man denied Christ before his beheading, he could not have been a true believer to begin with. But if “once-saved-always-saved” were a Biblical teaching, then what point was God making when the Holy Spirit inspired the writer of Hebrews to warn believers against drifting away, against departing from the faith, against disobedience and apostasy (Hebrews 2:1-4; 3:12-14; 4:11; 5:11-6:6)?  Why would  Jesus have implied that names can be blotted from the Book of Life (Revelation 3:5)? Why does 1 Timothy 4:1 teach us that “in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils”? It does not stand to reason that one can depart from the faith if they never held to the faith in the first place.

To the surprise of some, Jesus explicitly taught against the idea of “once-saved-always-saved” in Luke 8:11-15. According to Christ Himself, to believe is to be saved (8:12), but He said there would be those who only “believe for a while” (8:13) and, as such, are only saved for awhile. They had a faith that was during a time, but not a faith that was enduring time. If they were to die while they still believed they would go to heaven, even though they would have later fallen away in a “time of temptation” if they had lived. The man in this report, sadly, gave in to the temptation that he might live if he denied Christ and repeated the Beast’s “Shahada” for conversion to Islam. Now he has died in denial of the only One who could have saved his soul.

To all brothers and sisters in the Lord, may this serve as a reminder that we MUST abide in Christ Jesus and endure till the very end, even unto death. When we do, we are guaranteed that He, too, will abide in us, for when we are in Him no one can pluck us out of His hand. May God have mercy on this man’s soul …

By Leonardo Blair, Christian Post – “A Christian man in Syria recently had his head brutally hacked off by Islamic militants after being forced to deny his faith and salute Mohammed as ‘the messenger of God’.

The incident was caught on video for the world to see and broadcast as a warning to ‘everyone like him’.

In the video that was posted to YouTube with translated captions, the helpless Christian man is surrounded by armed militants wearing masks and he is heard reciting as instructed: ‘There is no God but God and I testify that Mohammed is the messenger of God.’

An apparent leader in the group of militants is then heard instructing the group: ‘No one will shoot him now, do you understand? He will not be killed by shooting because it is merciful for him.’

‘He will be beheaded because he is Kaffir, non-Muslim, sided [with] the government and was not praying at all. Everyone like him will have the same end, beheading,’ said the militant.

A militant armed with a machete then grabs the defenseless man by the hair and begins to cut his head from his body as the group cries ‘Allahu Akbar…there is no God but God.’

The 2014 report from the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom highlights Syria among several countries where being a Christian can be extremely hazardous due to terrorist and extremist Muslim threats.” Read more.

Serious Spillover: Thousands Flee Lebanon Town As Troops Battles Syrian Militants

The Muslims are marching towards Lebanon, and they’re attacking and killing … other Muslims. Evidently the last portion of Sura 48:29 has been cancelled out, like so many other verses throughout the “timeless” Qur’an …

By Bassem Mroue, Associated Press – “Thousands of Lebanese civilians and Syrian refugees crammed into cars and pickup trucks fled a town in eastern Lebanon Monday as troops battled al-Qaida-linked militants from neighboring Syria who overran the border region in the most serious spillover into Lebanon of the three-year conflict next door.

The fierce fighting in Arsal, now in its third day, has killed 17 Lebanese soldiers and compounded fears that tiny Lebanon is fast becoming a new front in its neighbor’s conflict. The government rushed reinforcements to the scene, including dozens of armored personal carriers, tanks and elite troops, suggesting fighting was about to worsen.

The civilian exodus came in the early morning hours during a relative lull in fighting and just a few hours later the bombardment around the town of Arsal had reached an intensity of three shells every minute.

‘We call on the Lebanese army to strike with an iron first,’ said Mohammed Hojeiri, who fled Arsal with his family packed in an SUV Monday. ‘Those gunmen are terrorizing civilians.’

The clashes in Arsal, a predominantly Sunni town of 40,000 whose population has almost tripled because of the presence of Syrian refugees and rebels, could worsen already bubbling sectarian tensions in Lebanon. The town is wedged between Syrian government-controlled territory and Lebanese Shiite villages sympathetic to Lebanon’s premier Shiite militia, Hezbollah.

The Syrian government, which is battling a largely Sunni insurgency, has the support of Hezbollah.

Though the army has only said it is fighting ‘armed terrorists,’ without naming them, the government has linked the conflict regional developments, where an al-Qaida breakaway group known as the Islamic State has declared a self-styled caliphate in border areas straddling Iraq and Syria…

Lebanon’s state-run news agency said the rebels were looting homes and shops in Arsal and a resident on the outskirts told The Associated Press that the militants were committing ‘atrocities’ and shooting at people attempting to flee.

‘The rebels feel protected by the civilians there,’ he said, confirming there was widespread looting with rebels taking over civilian homes to use as military posts.” Read more.

Philippines: Terrorist Organization Pledges Allegiance To ISIS Caliphate, “We Pledge To Obey Him … And To Value Him More Than Anyone Else”

By Maria A. Ressa, Rappler – “The Islamic State (IS), formerly known as ISIS or the Islamic State in Syria and Iraq or ISIS, is expanding its recruitment on social media in the Philippines.

On July 23, a video of senior Abu Sayyaf leader Isnilon Hapilon along with masked men was posted on YouTube. Hapilon carries a reward of up to $5 million from the US Rewards for Justice Program. He was indicted in the District of Columbia for ‘terrorist acts against United States nationals and other foreign nationals.’ The FBI says he was ‘the deputy or second in command for the foreign terrorist organization, the Abu Sayyaf.’

The propaganda video begins with still photos establishing the notoriety of Hapilon: his encircled photo on posters of most wanted terrorists from the United States, which include al-Qaeda’s leaders. Al-Qaeda’s symbolic black flag, which is being used by extremist groups in more than 20 countries around the world (including the foreign fighters of ISIS), peppers the opening montage.

In the video clip that lasts a little more than 6 minutes, Hapilon, wearing a black gown, links arms with men, most of whom hide their faces. Using a combination of his native dialect, Yakan, and Arabic, Hapilon and his men swear allegiance or ‘bay’ah,’ an oath, to IS and its head, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.

‘We pledge bay’ah to Caliph Sheikh Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi Ibrahim Awwad Al-Qurashi Al-Husseini for loyalty and obedience in adversity and comfort,’ says Hapilon, reading from a sheet of paper. The men, ostensibly members of the Abu Sayyaf, linking arms with him in the video recite the oath after him.

‘We pledge to obey him on anything which our hearts desire or not and to value him more than anyone else,’ Hapilon leads the men. ‘We will not take any emir other than him unless we see in him any obvious act of disbelief that could be questioned by Allah in the hereafter.'” Read more.

New ISIS Caliphate Magazine Promotes The Mass Murder Of Their Enemies

Where have we heard that before? …

By Kerry Picket, Breitbart – “The Islamic terrorist group known as the ‘Islamic State in Iraq and Syria’ (ISIS) is making itself more visible in the West now. Newsweek is reporting Pro-ISIS demonstrators calling for ‘death to Jews’ in the Netherlands.  German news outlets reported ISIS supporters in Saarbrucken hung the ISIS flag from a balcony of a private home for several weeks. The flag was only recently removed.

The terrorist organization just released an online magazine called ‘Dabiq’ for its English readership for Ramadan. In the magazine, ISIS justifies stoning women for adultery and mass executions of their enemies, while touting their compassion and generosity with orphans and the impoverished.  Additionally, ISIS goes after only one American politician — Senator John McCain (R-AZ), for a June 12 floor speech of he delivered about ISIS:

“…the crusader John McCain came to the Senate floor to rant irritably about the victories the Islamic State was achieving in Iraq. He forgot that he himself participated in the invasion of Iraq that led to the blessed events unfolding today by Allah’s bounty and justice.”

McCain had this to say:

“I come to the floor this morning with great sorrow and great concern and even deep alarm about the events that are transpiring rapidly in Iraq. ISIS the most extreme, Islamist organization – radical terrorist organization – now controls at least 1/3 of Iraqi territory and is rapidly gaining more. The areas of Fallujah, Mosul, Tikrit, they are on the outsides of Samarra… with these victories ISIS controls a swath of territory that stretches from the Syrian-Turkish frontier in the north, down the Euphrates river, all the way down to the Iraqi city of Fallujah just forty miles west of Baghdad.

And of course, hourly they are experiencing greater gains while the Iraqi military and police seem to be dissolving before our very eyes. ISIS social media published pictures of their fighters demolishing the sand berm, which hitherto marked the border between Syria and Iraq – an interesting symbolic gesture.

They also released… ISIS released footage of large numbers of weapons and armored military vehicles being received by members in Eastern Syria, confirming fears that the looted weapons would fuel the insurgency on both sides – both Syria and Iraq. Sources in the Syrian city of Hasakah confirmed that large numbers of trucks – conveys of trucks – arrived late on Tuesday and were met by senior ISIS figure Omar al-Checheni.

The Daily Star – “Somalia’s Al-Shabab insurgents said they had assassinated a lawmaker in Mogadishu as he left prayers at a mosque Friday, the fifth MP killed this year in a string of attacks.

‘This was a legitimate target, and he was killed on the orders of Allah,’ Al-Shabab spokesman Abdiaziz Abu Musab told AFP, adding that the Al-Qaeda-linked insurgents were ‘preparing to kill all the other MPs.’

Gunmen opened fire from a car in a drive-by shooting in the center of the city before racing off, witnesses said. ‘Sheikh Adan Madeer was shot and killed in central Mogadishu by gunmen, the gunmen then fled,’ witness Abdisalan Mohammad said.

Madeer was chairman of the parliamentary finance committee. ‘He returned from a mosque near his house … when two gunmen shot him dead. Now we are preparing his burial,’ relative Nur Mohammad said.

Al-Shabab fighters fled fixed positions in Mogadishu three years ago and have since lost most large towns to a 22,000-strong U.N.-backed African Union force, fighting alongside government soldiers. But they still hold sway in vast swathes of the rural hinterland from which they regularly launch guerrilla raids.

Recent Al-Shabab attacks in Somalia have targeted key areas of government and security forces in an apparent bid to discredit claims by the authorities and AU troops that they are winning the war. Last month Al-Shabab launched an assault on the presidential palace using similar tactics deployed in an attack on the same fortified compound in February.

In May, the Islamist insurgents also launched a similar attack against the national parliament. Al-Shabab spokesman Musab said the extremists were targeting MPs as they had ‘authorized the deployment of foreign troops in Somalia and were a pillar of the apostate government.'” Read more.

The Sunni Muslim extremist group formerly known as ISIS (Islamic State in Iraq and Syria) is using social media websites like Twitter and Facebook and video upload sites like YouTube and LiveLeak.com to strike fear across the Middle East as it wages its brutal campaign to create a caliphate that extends from northern Africa to Iraq.

In its most recent video, Islamic State fighters are shown executing dozens of men in the Iraqi city of Tikrit, according to a description posted on Twitter. The five-minute clip, culled from a longer propaganda video, shows the militants packing their victims into a caravan of trucks and transporting them to a field, where they force the men to lie face-down on the ground as a militia member shoots them one-by-one, execution style, with an AK-47.

The same video shows other men being dragged to the edge of a large body of water, shot point-blank in the back of the head and then thrown in.

‘The Islamic State is a social media master,’ Ryan Mauro, a national security analyst with the Clarion Project, told FoxNews.com. ‘They know these videos get them attention – but more importantly, they are seen by IS and like-minded jihadists as proof of success.

‘The videos are also an intimidation tactic. The Iraqi government is launching counterattacks, and these videos may dissuade Iraqi soldiers from participating and Iraqi civilians from cooperating with the government.’

Mauro says the videos are a haunting reminder to Iraqis of how dangerous the Islamic State is.

‘The videos reflect an unpleasant reality for Iraqis who oppose IS. Even if the Iraqi forces push IS back, it’s questionable whether they will hold that territory, and IS supporters will stay behind. Iraqis look at the videos and know that could be them.’

The Daily Star (Lebanon) – “The Syriac Orthodox bishop of Mount Lebanon and Tripoli George Saliba Wednesday denounced Muslims as enemies of Jesus, accusing them of a history of violence and oppression against Christians.

‘What is happening in Iraq is a strange thing, but it is normal for Muslims, because they have never treated Christians well, and they have always held an offensive and defaming stand against Christians,’ Elnashra.com reported Saliba as saying in a radio interview.

‘We are not calling for armament and war; we don’t have the capacities,’ Saliba said. ‘We used to live and coexist with Muslims, but then they revealed their canines [teeth].

‘They are the enemies of Christ and they do not differ from the Jews in terms of treating Christians.’

The bishop accused Muslims of centuries of violence against Christians, condemning the attacks on the Christians of Iraqi Mosul.

‘[They don’t] have the right to storm houses, steal and attack the honor of Christians,’ Saliba said. ‘Most Muslims do this, the Ottomans killed us and after that the ruling nation-states understood the circumstances but always gave advantage to the Muslims.’

Saliba also said Muslim generations are raised on bad feelings against Christians, saying this applies to the majority of Muslims.
