‘Egyptian Cleric Al-Zoghbi Discusses the Annihilation of the Jews on Judgment Day,’ MEMRI, n.d.:

Following are excerpts from an interview with Egyptian cleric Muhammad Al-Zoghbi, which aired on Amjad TV and post on the Internet on May 3, 2014:

Interviewer: The Prophet Muhammad said that one of the portents of Judgment Day is war on the Jews, their annihilation, or the eradication of their country. “The end of the Jews” is the theme of our program tonight, and how this country or entity will be annihilated. The hadith states that “Judgment Day will not arrive until the Muslims fight the Jews, and the Jews will hide behind the rocks and the trees, but the trees will say: ‘Oh Muslims, a Jew is hiding behind me, come and kill him’.”

We would like to pose some questions: Is this for real, or is it an allegory? Will the trees be talking just like I am talking to you? When will this battle take place, and who will command it? The Algemeiner – “Perception and reality continued to baffle Palestinian advocates on Thursday as the conflict between Israel and Gaza terrorist groups reached its third day.

Palestinians fired more than 100 rockets at major Israeli cities, including Beersheba, Rehovot, Jerusalem, and Tel Aviv. Israel, meanwhile, stepped up efforts to dismantle the terrorist infrastructure and leadership responsible for the attacks. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with his security cabinet late Thursday, saying the military campaign was going well and ‘more stages were expected.’

Slate reporter William Saletan, a critic of the Israeli government, nonetheless saw reality. Palestinian Islamic Jihad and Hamas started firing rockets at Israeli cities ‘well before’ Israel started bombing targets in Gaza, he wrote.

Israel has conducted more than 500 airstrikes as part of Operation Protective Edge since then, yet the death toll stands at around 80 Palestinians. Their deaths are tragic, but ‘you’d have to conclude that either Israel is failing miserably to kill people or, more plausibly, it’s largely trying not to kill them,’ Saleton wrote. He notes that Israel directly calls occupants of targeted buildings urging them to get out, and fires warning shots in an attempt to limit civilian casualties.

Yet, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas calls Israel’s strikes, which target rocket launch sites and terrorist leadership, ‘collective genocide.’

‘The charges are false,’ Saletan writes. ‘By the standards of war, Israel’s efforts to spare civilians have been exemplary.’

For Israel’s foes, ‘exemplary’ is not a concept they can handle. National Islamist groups are condemning Israel’s strikes while staying silent about Hamas’ rocket fire. Hussam Ayloush, executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) Los Angeles office, similarly absolves Hamas of responsibility for the violence. And, ignoring Israel’s attempts to minimize casualties, he lashed out on Twitter, with a ‘damn you’ post toward Israel and those who support ‘your filthy, criminal #Zionism.’

Hassan Shibly, Ayloush’s CAIR colleague in Tampa, similarly blasted Israel for not valuing ‘the lives of Palestinian children’ and said that Israel, ‘on an institutional level treats Palestinians worse than animals.’

Contrast that with the reality of the Hamas message this week. When it comes to the Israeli warning calls, a Hamas official went on the group’s Al Aqsa television to encourage people to stay in the buildings as human shields, the Israel Defense Forces reported, offering the video.” Read more.

Jihadi insurgents rampaging across Iraq have seized nuclear materials used for scientific research from a university in the country’s north.

Iraq sent an urgent letter to the United Nations appealing for help to “stave off the threat of their use by terrorists in Iraq or abroad.”

Nearly 88 pounds of uranium compounds were kept at Mosul University, Iraq’s UN ambassador told UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in the letter ­obtained on Wednesday.

“Terrorist groups have seized control of nuclear material at the sites that came out of the control of the state,” Mohamed Ali Alhakim wrote, adding that such materials “can be used in manufacturing weapons of mass destruction.”

“These nuclear materials, despite the limited amounts mentioned, can enable terrorist groups, with the availability of the required expertise, to use it separate or in combination with other materials in its terrorist acts,” said Alhakim.

Just as with ISIS’ seizure of chemical weapons facilities, Obama Inc, the UN and the media keep assuring us that there’s nothing to worry about.

A US government source familiar with the matter said the materials were not believed to be enriched uranium and therefore would be difficult to manufacture into a weapon.

‘Believed’. Nothing to worry about. I’m sure that a terrorist group with billions of dollars that specializes in suicide bombings won’t figure out a way to kill people with it.

By Sam Webb, Mail Online – “A terrorist organisation claiming responsibility for a number of attacks in Pakistan has apparently become the first foreign extremist group to pledge their allegiance to the Islamic State currently wreaking havoc across Syria and Iraq.

Tehreek-e-Khilafat has declared it will raise the flag of the Islamic State – formerly known as ISIS – above south Asia and Khurusan, an historical Islamic region comprising parts of Afghanistan, Iran, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

The move will be seen to bolster Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the leader of the Islamic State, who has garnered the nickname ‘the invisible sheikh’ due to his elusive nature.

Described as the world’s most wanted man, militants operating under Baghdadi’s control have spread terror through Syria and Iraq in an attempt to form a new Islamic state in the Middle East.

The Sunni fighters, responsible for the brutal slaughter of thousands, have vowed to expand the so-called caliphate to huge swathes of Europe and Africa.

Tehreek-e-Khilafat, affiliated with the Pakistani Taliban, said in a statement: ‘From today, Sheikh Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi shall consider Tehreek-e-Khilafat and Jihad mujahideen fighters of Pakistan as one of the arrows among his arrows which he has kept for his bow.

The statement, featured in the Daily Telegraph, added: ‘We are praying from the almighty Allah to give us chance in our lives to see the expansion of Islamic State boundaries toward the Sub­Continent and Khurasan region in order to hoist the flag of Islamic State here.’

The deadliness of Pakistani terror groups was brought home in March, when gunmen stormed Pakistan’s main court complex in Islamabad on Monday, cutting down fleeing lawyers before blowing themselves up in a rampage that killed 11 people.

It was the worst terror attack in years in the capital, which has largely been spared the violence raging in many parts of the country.” Read more.

By Dalit Halevi and Ari Soffer, INN – “The Islamic State, or ISIS, has responded to critics who have questioned why its leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi is not actively supporting Hamas in fighting Israel.

After capturing vast swathes of Iraq and Syria, ISIS declared the regions under its control as a ‘Caliphate’, or Islamic state, and appointed Baghdadi as ‘leader of the Muslims’. While many jihadists celebrated the announcement, others – including Al Qaeda, which ISIS broke off from last year – have criticized the move for a variety of reasons.

Since the recent escalation between Israel and Islamist terrorists in Gaza, some of those critics have questioned why a self-declared ‘Caliphate’ is not rushing to the aid of Muslims in the Hamas-controlled territory.

In a statement a spokesperson for the group, Nidal Nuseiri reaffirmed that conquering ‘Bayt el-Maqdis’ (Jerusalem) and destroying the State of Israel is central to the group’s ‘jihad’, or holy war.

However, he pointed out that ISIS has been taking a systematic approach in its campaign, and outlined six specific stages it said needed to be fulfilled before taking on Israel.

Some of those ‘stages’ – building a firm base for an Islamic state in Iraq, and using it as a springboard to wage war in Syria and Lebanon – have already been achieved. But he said a number of other criteria still needed to be fulfilled before challenging Israel directly.

Among them, Nuseiri said that the US – seen as Israel’s greatest ally – needed to be weakened politically and economically via attacks on the American mainland, as well as US interests in Muslim countries. Additionally, the existing ‘Islamic State’ needed to expand its borders to cover all of ‘Greater Syria’ (which would include Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Jorislamdan and possibly Gaza); such a state, he said, would then be in a position for a direct confrontation with Israel.” Source – INN.

Abu Omar, a Sunni jihadist fighting in Aleppo said, ‘If you think that all these mujahideen came from around the world to fight Assad, you are mistaken. All of them came here as it was foretold and promised by the Prophet. I’m sure Dimona is well protected on many levels, but Hamas apparently failed to consider the consequences of what would happen to them — not to mention their co-religionists down wind — if Dimona were somehow hit and damaged as intended. Given their love of death, they’d probably welcome it …

Flashback: 2009: Israel Fears Rocket Attack on Nuke Plant

Sky News – “Hamas militants have fired rockets towards the Dimona nuclear reactor facility, an Israeli military spokesman has said.

The official said three rockets were detected and the ‘Iron Dome’ defensive missile system was activated.

Writing on Twitter, the official said: ‘A few minutes ago, Palestinian terrorists in Gaza fired three rockets at Dimona. Two fell in open areas, Iron Dome intercepted the other.’

The Ezzedine Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, said it ‘launched three M75 rockets at Dimona’. The rockets have a range of about 80km (50 miles).

The strike attempt comes after the Israeli military has said it has shot down rockets fired by Palestinian militants at other areas, as Israel’s major air offensive over the Gaza Strip approaches its third day.

A spokesperson for the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) said at least eight rockets sent from Gaza were intercepted over Tel Aviv, Ashdod and Ashkelon on Wednesday.

Israel said a rocket hit the city of Zichron Yaakov on Wednesday afternoon, which is some 120km (75 miles) from Gaza, representing the longest-range rocket strike by Hamas on the state to date.

The IDF claims at least 48 missiles, sent by Hamas, which controls Gaza, ‘struck Israel’ since midnight.

Other locations targeted included Beersheva and Sderot in the south, Rishon Lezion, and Hadera in the north – 60 miles from Gaza.

In total, more than 300 rockets have been fired at Israel since the military launched Operation Protective Edge began on Monday night.

The release of the video coincides with the firing of hundreds of rockets by Hamas from Gaza targeting cities across Israel including Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, and the northern city of Haifa.

Fatah, the party of Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, formed a Palestinian unity government with Hamas in May, though experts on the region say that the partnership is already all but dead.

‘For all intents and purposes the unity government is done,’ said the Foundation for Defense of Democracies’ Jonathan Schanzer. ‘I don’t see unity, cooperation between Hamas and Fatah looks dead, and no one is even talking about whether the unity government is functioning.

By Raymond Ibrahim, Islam Translated – “I just spent the better part of the day reading and listening to sermons by the leaders and jihadis of the new ‘caliphate’ in Mesopotamia, the Islamic State (formerly ‘Islamic State of Iraq and Syria’).

I did so in the vain hopes of learning something ‘new.’

But it was absolute déjà vu — taking me back to a decade ago, when I was reading and translating the Arabic writings and speeches of al-Qaeda leaders Osama bin Laden and Ayman Zawahiri, as collated in The Al Qaeda Reader.

Now as then, it’s the same Koran verses; the same hadiths of Islamic prophet Muhammad waging and praising jihad; the same threats of hellfire for the munafiqun (hypocrites or lukewarm Muslims); the same carnal rewards in the now or hereafter for those who join the ‘caravan’ of jihad.

Consider for instance the following opening words of a recently released short video from the Islamic State titled, ‘There is No Life Without Jihad’:

If you wish to know the way to glory and power, to goodness, security and joy, you must learn that there are no rights without jihad, no justice without jihad, no dignity without jihad, no security without jihad, no future without jihad, no life without jihad, no life without jihad.

After this rather hackneyed opening, one Abu Muthana, a jihadi from Britain, appears quoting some more of the usual Koran verses, hadiths, and ulema, in this case, Imam Qurtubi, who wrote that ‘jihad gives life.’  Finally he summarizes the goal of the jihad — in case anyone is still not sure — namely, to fight until ‘the law [Sharia] of Allah is implemented and the caliphate restored.’

To reiterate, there is little new or original in the videos and communiques from the Islamic State.  Just static Islamism.

If one turns to the speeches of other Islamic and jihadi groups around the world—from the African groups such as Boko Haram (Nigeria) and al-Shabaab (Somalia), to Asian groups such as Abu Sayyaf (Philippines) and the Islamic Movement (Uzbekistan)—it’s the same thing, same themes, same scriptures, same quotations, same exhortations, same condemnations.   Only their temporal circumstances and vicissitudes of victory or defeat differ.

While the Western mentality, so used to seeing and hearing about the ‘latest’ or ‘newest’ fad, may deem the Islamist approach as static or insipid, it is, quite the contrary, immensely effective for its purposes, and thus dangerous.

Consider: It’s the same exact message — of supremacism, hate, and violence, capped off with divine sanctioning — repeated over and over again, from a myriad of sources and organizations, all of which claim authority.

One can think of few better ways to brainwash and indoctrinate young and impressionable minds—to the point that they eagerly embrace death, including through suicide (AKA “martyrdom operations”).

Nor is this message of jihad, conquest, and death-to-the-infidel, limited to the verbiage that transpires among terrorist organizations; instead, this sort of rhetoric has spread far and wide, thanks to Read more…
