Though many ISIS fighters are well educated — its own leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, holds a PhD in Islamic studies from the University of Baghdad — I’m doubtful that many, if any, within ISIS have had any formal training to operate military aircraft. Then again, we don’t know what experience the surging number of foreign ISIS fighters — some holding Western passports — are bringing to the table, not to mention any number of defectors from the Syrian military who may have joined the ranks of their former enemy. All it takes is just one experienced pilot to wreak even more havoc than we’ve already seen …

By Eli Lake and Josh Rogin, The Daily Beast – “In its march to Baghdad, ISIS seized the heavy weapons of a modern army. Now, the jihadists are attacking Iraq’s biggest air base – and could soon be able to attack from the sky.

The Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham is threatening to take control of Balad Airbase, Iraq’s largest airfield and one of America’s most important military outposts during its occupation of the country.

Today, Balad still has plenty of vehicles and aircraft on the base that any terrorist group would covet, including Russian-made transport helicopters, surveillance planes, and a fleet of pickup trucks fitted with heavy machine guns.

Now, that airbase is coming under fire — and is in danger of falling into the hands of ISIS, according to U.S. intelligence officers, internal reports from Balad, and outside analysts. Reuters reported Wednesday that the base was now surrounded on three sides by insurgents and taking heavy mortar fire.

‘We assess the group continues to threaten the air base and Iraqi Security Force control of the air base as it moves south towards Baghdad,’ a senior U.S. intelligence official told reporters Tuesday.

Of course, even if ISIS were to gain control of Balad, there is no guarantee its fighters would know how to operate or maintain the aircraft that are stored there. But an ISIS takeover of Balad would be significant nonetheless. As NBC News reported Tuesday, Iraqi officers say without air support they are on an equal footing with ISIS fighters.

Jessica Lewis — the research director for the Institute for the Study of War and a former U.S. Army intelligence officer who served in Iraq — told The Daily Beast, ‘It would mean that ISIS can beat the best that the Iraqi Army can muster, not just the northern units that have been ignored. It would mean strategic defeat for the Iraqi Army.’

Lewis estimates that Balad and neighboring Taji base are likely some of the next targets of the ISIS campaign. ‘Both of these bases are critical military sites for the Iraqi Army. Neutralizing one or both would demonstrate that ISIS can beat the Iraqi Army strategically.'” Read more.

Running For Their Lives From The “Religion Of Peace”

This Day Live – “United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees has lamented that about 650,000 Nigerians have been displaced in many parts of the North as a result of the activities of the Boko Haram sect.

Representative of the body in Nigeria, Ms. Angele Dikongue-Atangana, said in an interview yesterday that an intelligence assessment carried out in May had blamed their displacement on the recent crises in the North-east region.

‘According to an intelligence assessment of North-eastern Nigeria, at least 650,000 persons have been displaced within the boundary of Nigeria. And what is of most concern to the UNHCR in Nigeria today are these internally displaced persons.’

She said her organisation was working hard to establish a regional office in Gombe that would take care of many of the internally displaced persons, adding that the international community and the UN systems in Nigeria are working jointly to provid protection and care for the affected persons.

The representative also disclosed plans by UNHCR to ensure efficient coordination and management of camps for those affected.

‘UNHCR will always support respective states in taking care of internally displaced persons.

‘This is one reason we want to establish an office in Gombe, to be able to cater for the needs of many displaced persons in this part of Nigeria,’ Dikongue-Atangana.” Source – This Day Live.

Daily reports of the terror group Islamic States of Iraq and Syria/Levant, or ISIS, advancing toward a caliphate in Iraq have supplanted equally horrific news from Nigeria, where Boko Haram slaughtered schoolboys and kidnapped girls to sell into slavery. All the while, terror attacks in the name of Islam have continued in China, where members of the Islamic sect known as Uighurs are suspected of mass stabbing attacks, and Kenya, where the Muslim terrorist group al-Shabaab murdered 48 people a week ago.

‘It is metastasizing worldwide because we are seeing radical Islam and groups organized across the world feeling empowered to bring back and resurrect an Islamic caliphate and establish Islam as they see it in their own eyes as it was practiced in the days of Muhammad,’ said Brigitte Gabriel, founder of Act! for America, and author of ‘They Must be Stopped: Why We Must Defeat Radical Islam and How We Can Do It.’

Many of the attacks are from Al Qaeda splinter groups or loose affiliates seeking to spread the message of Shariah law and hatred of the West. What the terrorism hierarchy loses in central coordination, it more than makes up for in global reach.

‘People splinter off and create their own factions, like ISIS,’ said Kamran Bokhari, vice president of Middle Eastern and South Asian Affairs for geopolitical analysis firm Stratfor, and author of ‘Political Islam in the Age of Democratization.’ ‘It’s really about power — everyone wants a payday.’

Recent months have seen extremists Boko Haram and ISIS on the attack, seemingly one-upping one another in terms of brutality. Both of those groups reportedly broke ties with Al Qaeda, in part because their tactics were too extreme even for the terror organization that launched the 9/11 attacks.

ISIS, which shares the goal of toppling Iraq’s government with Sunni fighters, has reportedly alienated its brothers in arms with it sheer viciousness. Decapitating government soldiers, shooting Christians point blank and implementing strict Shariah law in conquered territory, the group seeks to establish an Islamic caliphate in the historic region known as the Levant. They have taken over the major Iraqi cities of Mosul and Tikrit, and are bent on capturing the Shiite holy cities of Karbala and Najaf and the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.

Boko Haram has proven equally atrocious, incinerating young boys after locking them in a school and kidnapping young Christian girls and forcing them to convert to Islam. Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan has said the group is responsible for killing 12,000 and leaving another 8,000 permanently injured. More than 200 schoolgirls remain missing after being kidnapped in April, and on Monday, local reports said it had seized 60 women and girls, as well as more than 30 boys in villages in Borno State, in the nation’s northeast.

Earlier this month, Boko Haram was blamed for killing hundreds of people in a massacre in northeastern Nigeria along the border with Cameroon, and deadly car bombs have frequently rocked the Nigerian capital of Abuja in recent months.

ISIS is also know as the Islamic State of Iraq and the Sham. ‘Sham,’ or ‘Greater Syria,’ refers to Cyprus, Palestine, Jordan, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Israel and southern Turkey.

ISIS also is known as DAASH, the Arabic acronym for al-Dawlah al-Islamiyah fi al-Iraq wa-al Sham.

The Sunni militant group, which has taken over much of the Sunni region of Iraq, could leave the Shia-dominated region of the country and head toward Jordan and Turkey.

Lamb said that in Iraq alone, some 6 million Iraqi Sunnis recently have become supportive of the ISIS lightning strikes in the Sunni portion of the country.” Read more.

ISIS Fighter Shows Captured Iraqi Soldier To The Camera Before Their Execution

By Tarek Fatah, Toronto Sun – “The world is ablaze in an orgy of jihadi terror and war in the lands of Islam and no one seems to know what to make of it, let alone how to resolve the crisis.

The brutality of this mayhem was best captured in a deeply disturbing video released on the Internet by jihadis fighting for the ‘Islamic State of Iraq and Syria’ (ISIS).

It shows a bearded, young ISIS fighter in full battle gear posing for the camera with a decapitated head in his hand.

On cue from the cameraman, the jihadi fighter lifts the head, turns towards it and says, ‘Hello, my name is John.’

Both men then break into laughter, after which the cameraman derisively remarks, ‘Why doesn’t John look like he died of natural causes?’

The decapitated head is then thrown to the ground as another ISIS man can be heard off camera joking: ‘This guy died of natural causes by a knife … It cut his throat’, to which the cameraman guffaws, ‘Natural causes — the mujahedeen … Natural cause for an apostate,’ before chanting the Islamic battle cry, ‘Allah O Akbar.’

This desecration of a dead body is not an isolated incident.

Just last year the Taliban were filmed playing football with the decapitated heads of beheaded prisoners — fellow Muslims.

And while much of the Islamic community is in a state of denial, blinded to the atrocities being committed by their co-religionists across the globe, the rest of the world watches in shock.

In Kenya and Nigeria Islamists are targeting Christians while in Iraq and Pakistan they are killing Shia Muslims, who Saudi-funded clerics have designated as ‘Kaffirs’’, non-believers in Islamic disguise whose founders, they falsely claim, were Jews.

The apologists among us claim these atrocities are not part of the Islamic rules of war, but that does not withstand scrutiny.

The fact is, no less a person than the grandson of Prophet Muhammad was beheaded in battle by fellow Muslims on Oct. 10, 680. His decapitated head was paraded in the streets of Damascus.
