For the glory of “Allah” and the prophet of death. This wanton murder and mayhem is at the point today where it is near impossible for most of us to keep track of all the death and destruction. But there is One who is keeping record of every last detail …

BBC News – “Suspected militants have shot dead at least 39 people in an attack on a village in north-eastern Nigeria.

The attackers – believed to be from the Boko Haram group – destroyed the entire village of Mainok, about 50km (30 miles) west of the city of Maiduguri.

The incident took place late on Saturday, hours after two bomb blasts killed at least 50 people in Maiduguri.

Boko Haram has been conducting a four-year violent campaign to demand Islamic rule in northern Nigeria.

The morning after the latest attack, bodies were lying in front of the mosque waiting to be buried and buildings in Mainok were still on fire, the BBC’s Will Ross reports from Lagos.

An eyewitness described how the attack unfolded: ‘They started shooting everywhere, they started burning all the houses in the village.

‘I don’t think that there is any house that is standing in the village and they have killed at least 39 people in the village.

‘These people have guns – AK47, RPGs and so on and so forth, they can come and attack anybody and kill, including women and children, they kill everybody that can see them.’

Earlier two bombs exploded in a densely populated area of Maiduguri – a city which Boko Haram has often targeted.” Read more.

And indeed, Iranian spokesmen have been indulging in quite a bit of virulently hostile rhetoric toward the U.S. recently, belying the media and Obama administration insistence that Iran is ‘moderate’ now. Note that Rowhani says here: ‘We must be very careful in our calculations. Launching missiles and staging military exercises to scare off the other side is not good deterrence, although a necessity in its proper place.’ He does not, in other words, say ‘We must be very careful in our calculations. Launching missiles and staging military exercises to scare off the other side is not good moderate foreign policy, and completely contradicts the spirit of our new peace agreement with the U.S.’

Rowhani himself has dropped the mask at least once. Remember his tweet, later deleted: ‘Our relationship w/ the world is based on Iranian nation’s interests. In #Geneva agreement world powers surrendered to Iranian nation’s will.’

President Hassan Rowhani urged Iran’s military leaders on Saturday to let diplomacy prevail in dealing with potential foreign threats, in a clear reference to efforts to end the nuclear dispute and decades of hostile relations with the West, Reuters reported.

“It is very important to formulate one’s sentences and speeches in a way that is not construed as threat, intention to strike a blow,” Reuters quoted Rowhani as saying in a meeting with Iran’s top military echelon.

“We must be very careful in our calculations. Launching missiles and staging military exercises to scare off the other side is not good deterrence, although a necessity in its proper place,” the official IRNA news agency quoted him as saying.

He added: “A misfire could burst into flames and wreak havoc to everything.” Read more…

MEMRI – “On February 11, 2014, Iran celebrated Revolution Day, the 35th anniversary of the regime of the Islamic Revolution, against the backdrop of the start of permanent agreement nuclear talks between Iran and the superpowers, and of the ongoing struggle within Iran between the ideological stream led by Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, and the pragmatic stream led by Hashemi Rafsanjani, on the issue of how Iran should deal with the U.S. Revolution Day 2014 was marked by regime officials’ harsh anti-U.S. statements and by calls for maintaining Iranian hostility towards the U.S.

In two separate speeches, Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei stressed that the main enemy of the revolution was the U.S. and extolled fighting it as the revolution’s central value. He added that the 1979 takeover of the U.S. Embassy in Tehran was ‘an even greater revolution than the first one,’ that is, greater than the removal of the Shah and the seizure of power by Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini. Khamenei also called on Iranians not to be taken in by the U.S.’s overtures, and not to trust it, because its aim – that is, to topple the revolutionary regime – remains unchanged.

As part of the Iranian regime’s dismissal of the U.S. military threat, many of this year’s Revolution Day marches and demonstrations featured signs bearing the slogan in English, ‘We Are Eager For The Options On The Table,’ – a slogan praised by both Khamenei’s and Rafsanjani’s circles. Moreover, Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) naval commander Ali Fadavi stated that the U.S. would understand Iran’s might when Iran began to sink U.S. warships, with their crews of over 5,000. At the same time, Iranian Navy Adm. Rezai Haddad announced that an Iranian flotilla was en route to the Atlantic for ‘a first approach of U.S. maritime borders’[1] and that this was meant to be a ‘message’ for the U.S [2]

In his Revolution Day message, both Iranian Defense Minister Hossein Dehghan and Iranian Army chief of staff Hassan Firouzabadi stressed that Iran longs for the decisive battle with the U.S., in light of the latter’s threat to use the military option if the nuclear talks fail. In other speeches, government officials stressed that hostility towards the U.S. – ‘the Great Satan’ – would continue even if the nuclear issue were resolved, and that Iran’s smiles at the negotiating table were merely a tactical move aimed at obtaining Iran’s nuclear rights.

Iranian Military Officials: ‘The Americans Will Know [Iran’s True Power] When Their Warships, With Over 5,000 Aboard, Sink During A Confrontation With Iran’; We Are Prepared With Ballistic Missiles, Swift Boats, And Mines; ‘The Iranian Nation Will Hand Them [The Americans] A Crushing Defeat’

In a February 11, 2014 interview with the Fars news agency, Defense Minister Hossein Dehghan said: ‘The Defense Ministry is working to ensure that the Iranian people are armed and ready to confront any enemy threat. Yesterday’s successful test of Iranian-made ballistic missiles was also a crushing response to the nonsense of the American officials who frequently threaten Iran. It is a clear answer to their military option. The Defense Ministry and the Iranian nation are always ready [for battle], and Iran will welcome it if the Americans again put themselves to the test and face the consequences. The Americans will again be defeated, just as they were in the [1980-1988] Iran-Iraq war. If they implement their nonsense [i.e. their threats], the Iranian nation will hand them a crushing defeat.’[3]

The next day, February 12, Iranian Chief of Staff Hassan Firouzabadi told Fars: ‘Iran is prepared for the decisive war against the U.S. and the Zionist regime.’ He added, ‘Iran has been making plans, conducting maneuvers, and preparing its forces for this battle for years now.’[4]

Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) naval commander Ali Fadavi threatened that in battles at sea, his forces would sink American warships: ‘The Americans can spot swift boats, sea mines, and anti-ship missiles but they cannot grasp axioms such as… ‘God, the Islamic Revolution, and the Supreme Leader [Khamenei].’ On the chest of the IRGC is the [Koran] verse that clearly says that the use of measures against the infidels and the enemies must be promoted. The Americans notice only some of our capabilities; only on the battlefield will they fully internalize the bulk of our capabilities. The Americans will know [Iran’s true power] when their warships, with over 5,000 aboard, sink during a confrontation with Iran, and when they have to search the depths of the sea for their bodies.’[5]” Read more.

By Adamu Adamu, Associated Press – “Suspected Islamic militants killed dozens of students in a pre-dawn attack on a northeast Nigerian college, survivors say, setting ablaze a locked hostel and shooting and slitting the throats of those who escaped through windows. Some were burned alive.

Adamu Garba said he and other teachers who ran away through the bush estimate 40 students died in the assault that began around 2 a.m. Tuesday at the Federal Government College Buni Yadi. It is a co-ed school about 45 miles south of Damaturu, the capital of Yobe state, and difficult to communicate with because extremists last year destroyed the cellphone tower there.

Soldiers still are gathering corpses so he could not give an exact number of dead, said military spokesman Capt. Eli Lazarus.

Garba, who teaches at a secondary school attached to the college, said the attackers first set ablaze the college administrative block, then moved to the hostels, where they locked students in and started firebombing the buildings.

At one hostel, he said, ‘students were trying to climb out of the windows and they were slaughtered like sheep by the terrorists who slit their throats. Others who ran were gunned down.’ He said students who could not escape were burned alive.

He spoke to the Associated Press in Damaturu, where he and several other teachers had made their way.

Tuesday’s attack brings the toll from attacks blamed on Boko Haram to more than 300 civilians killed this month alone.” Read more.

NOW – “More than 136,000 people have been killed since the beginning of the Syrian conflict in March 2011, with January one of the bloodiest months on record, an NGO said Saturday.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a monitoring group based in Britain, said the toll now stood at least 136,277 people killed.

Among those are 47,998 civilians, including more than 7,300 children, the group said.

‘January was among the bloodiest months since the beginning of conflict,’ Observatory director Rami Abdel Rahman said.

‘We in the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights will continue to call on all actors on the international stage to do their humanitarian and moral duty to press for the Syrian file to be referred to the International Criminal Court,’ the group said in a statement.

The group said it sought ‘the trial of the murderers of the Syrian people, and those who have collaborated with them.’

The Observatory’s last toll, at the end of December, stood at 130,433, but fierce fighting between rebels and the regime, as well as between rebels and jihadists, has claimed nearly 6,000 lives since then.

The group said at least 31,629 opposition fighters, including more than 8,000 jihadists, had been killed since the start of the conflict.

On the regime side, 53,167 soldiers and militiamen were killed, along with 271 members of Lebanese Shiite movement Hezbollah and 338 members of other foreign Shiite brigades fighting alongside the government.” Read more.
