By PAUL VIEIRA and NIRMALA MENON, The Wall Street Journal – “Canadian police Thursday charged a Toronto man with uttering a threat and mischief, a day after a suspicious package was found in the complex that houses Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s offices.

Mohamoud Jimale was scheduled to appear in court Thursday, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police said in a statement. A police spokeswoman declined to comment further.

The statement said Mr. Jimale faces one count of uttering threats under Canada’s Criminal Code, which can incorporate an attempt to cause harm to a human, animal or property, and one count of mischief. Attempts to call a listed phone number for Mr. Jimale in Toronto were unsuccessful. An Ontario court official said Mr. Jimale was scheduled to appear before a judge Thursday afternoon.

Following the discovery Wednesday of the suspicious package, police evacuated the Ottawa office complex directly across the street from Canada’s main parliament buildings. Later, a special police team deemed the package not to be a threat, according to an Ottawa Police spokesman. At the time, police confirmed a man was taken into custody after being identified as a person of interest.” Read more.

Nigeria: Islamist Attacks Forcing Thousands Of Villagers To Flee Borno State

allAfrica – “The Adamawa government said at least 3,000 persons have arrived the state, fleeing recent Boko Haram attacks in neighbouring Borno state.

The government said it was worried with the daily influx of people from Borno state where violence has continued and locals are often targeted by Islamist Boko Haram.

The state commissioner for Border Integration, Hamza Bello, made the government’s position known during a condolence visit to Bitiku-Valti Village in Madagali Local Government Area to sympathise with victims taking refuge in the area.

Mr Bello said the Adamawa government was worried about the frequent influx of displaced persons now taking refuge in Madagali area of the state.

He said the Adamawa state governor, Murtala Nyako, had inaugurated a committee to take care of the displaced persons.

Part of the committee’s mandate is to register the refugees, ascertain their numbers, and to establish camps where the displaced can receive immediate assistance.

‘So far, no fewer than 3,000 people from Bama and Gwoza local government areas of Borno have been confirmed to have fled to Adamawa due to the fear of terrorists’ attacks,’ the commission said.

Also sympathising with the victims, the Speaker of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, Ahmadu Umaru, made a personal donation of an undisclosed amount of money to the displaced persons.” Read more.

Egypt: ‘Gangs’ Seize And Tax Christian Property, Crimes Against Christians ‘Becoming So Normal Now’

By Raymond Ibrahim, Jihad Watch – “The plight of Egypt’s Christian Copts, especially in Upper Egypt, continues unabated. According to a new Arabic report, during the last few days in Asyut, ‘criminal groups and gangs managed to acquire guns and weapons and, as usual, have attacked and abused the Christians to control their sources of income, including to finance their [the ‘gangsters’] activities. They forced Copts to pay large amounts of money as tax [jizya] in order not to steal and/or plunder their lands.

The El Fagr report points out that no one has done a thing to oppose these gangs: ‘they simply kill Christians and their families as happened in the village of Shameiya when two Copts refused to pay the tax: the gang killed them and this was repeated in many other villages belonging to the governorate of Asyut. It is becoming so normal now to watch as these crimes against Christians occur day by day and nothing is done.’

According to Hanna Grees Sorial, who has owned a piece of land for over 25 years now, with all the proper documents, members of these gangs recently seized his property and even built a fence around it, telling Sorial that he had to pay 100,000 Egyptian pounds (approximately $16,700 USD) if he wanted his land back.

Amazingly, the piece of land in question is just a few meters away from the police station. And Sorial did report the men, who were arrested only to be released quickly, as often happens in Muslim majority nations whenever Christians register a grievance.

Most recently, and by way of retaliation, the gang called him saying that, since he went to police, they are now demanding 800,000 Egyptian pounds to return his land; they also threatened to kill him and his family if he tried to report on them again.

In the words of Sorial: ‘the gangs abuse Christians because we are a peaceful minority; we hate violence and they use that against us, seizing our money to buy weapons and to finance their atrocities against the poor and innocent ones.'” Source – Jihad Watch.

Syria: Bombs Planted Inside One Of The World’s Oldest Churches

By Colin Freeman, The Telegraph – “Bombs have been planted in the confessional box of one of the world’s oldest churches in a Syrian town hailed as the country’s last remaining centre of religious tolerance, Syria’s most senior Christian leader has disclosed.

On a visit to London to highlight the persecution of Christians in the civil war, Patriarch Gregorios III said the two devices were found at the Cathedral of Constantine and Helen in the rebel-held town of Yabroud.

Not only is the church one of the oldest in the world, but it lies in a town where Christians and Sunni Muslims have so far resisted efforts by al-Qaeda-affiliated rebel groups to drive a wedge between them.

As The Telegraph reported on a visit to Yabroud earlier this month, a self-appointed local council has tried to keep both foreign jihadists and local mafia gangs at bay, as well as government forces. Only last week the Syrian army shelled the church.

The Patriarch said that early on Tuesday morning, two remote controlled bombs were discovered planted in the church, one of them in the confessional box. Challenging the town’s image of harmony, he also claimed that local Christian families had been asked to pay a monthly protection tax of $35,000 by local ‘armed groups’.

‘Yabroud is under the control of armed groups, and Christians are asked for protection money, yet in spite of this, there are these bombs being placed in the church,’ he said.

He added that in the event of a rebel victory in the country’s civil war, life for Christians could get even harder because of the hardline Islamist elements in the anti-government ranks.” Read more.

Survey: Growing Number Of Danish Citizens Believe They Are Too Tolerant Of Muslims

The Copenhagen Post – “The public debates over banned Christmas trees, halal meat at schools and cashiers wearing headscarves appear to have made the Danish population more wary about giving their Muslim neighbours cultural concessions.

According to a new survey by market researcher TNS Gallup, carried out for Berlingske newspaper, every third non-Muslim Dane is under the impression that Denmark is too tolerant of its Muslim minority population.

Jens Peter Frølund Thomsen, a political science professor at Aarhus University, said that the most surprising thing about the survey was how little the Danish mentality has shifted, even though the Muslim immigrants arrived years ago.

‘The demands of assimilation weigh heavily on the Danish public,’ Thomsen told Berlingske. ‘We have a very ethnocentric culture and when people speak of integration in Denmark, they’re really talking about assimilation.’

Danes right to protect values

Mehmet Necef, a lecturer at the Institute of Middle East Studies at the University of Southern Denmark and the co-author of the book ‘Er Danskerne racister?’ (‘Are Danes Racist?’), argued that Danes are right to guard their values.

‘A decision to only serve halal-butchered meat is a failure because initiatives that cater specifically to a certain group will generate considerable irritation in the other group,’ Necef told Berlingske.

Necef pointed to the survey findings that showed that even 20 percent of people who vote for left-wing party Enhedslisten believe that the Danes are too tolerant of Muslims.

‘There is even irritation amongst people who have a positive view on Muslims and immigrants,’ Necef said.” Read more.

By Ali Salim, Gatestone Institute – “With every Middle East country at each other’s throat, the Arab-Muslim world is uncertain of its fate. Some of its totalitarian regimes were toppled in the so-called Arab Spring but they have yet to be replaced by stable governments; the battle for the future of the Middle East is still being fought. The real question is whether the young people, representatives of moderate Islam and secular Arabs who initiated the Arab Spring, will be able to keep the region from being taken over by Islamists seeking to promote their own agendas, and to prevent it from being engulfed by a fundamentalist form of Islam.

Radical Islam may have been weakened but it is still a force. The revolution of the young reformists against the Shah of Iran was exploited by the Shi’ite Ayatollahs to take control of Iran. Turkey’s democratic government was overthrown as Erdogan established himself as its Islamist dictator. In the Palestinian Authority-administered territories, Hamas, a branch of the Muslim Brotherhood, rose up against the PA, took over the Gaza Strip, and now eyes the West Bank and awaits the chance to pounce. Islamists almost took over Egypt, but praise to Allah (S.W.A.T.), were defeated at the last moment. Fortunately, the Muslim Brotherhood regime of Mohamed Morsi was terminated by the Egyptian army, commanded by the Minister of Defense, Gen. Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.

Past experience has shown that as soon as the Islamists are in control they change the democratic laws and institutions that allowed them to gain power; they are no longer interested in change or willing to accept opposition of any sort. It soon becomes clear that they cannot solve their country’s problems; their only desire is to exercise complete political and religious control, and the desperate, faltering masses continue to suffer as before. Eventually, with no help in sight, some will turn to more extreme forms of Islam, praying to Allah (S.W.A.T.) to save them from their hopeless plight, while others, disappointed by the Islamist regime, will abandon religion altogether.

Exposed by the media to the achievements of the West, the masses of the Middle East thirst for change and desire the quality of life enjoyed by the rest of the world. The Islamist movements, on the other hand, especially those that grabbed political power, desire the total alienation of their citizens from the West. Progress, freedom, human rights, a thriving economy, security and democracy are all trademarks of a competing religion, Christianity, while the Arab and Muslim world, despite its oil, land and water, remains mired in the shifting sand dunes of backwardness and reaction.

The values of the Judeo-Christian world and the attendant success of its economies and societies threaten the foundations of the Islamic faith and its universal mission, which to us feels as if it has failed, lags behind the rest of the world and deals only in bloodshed. From an Islamic point of view, such a failure is completely unacceptable. In addition, the mere existence and economic and military success of the Jewish State of Israel and what can be seen on television as its genuine democracy present a terrible challenge to radical Islam: for Islam, the Jews are not a nation but a collection of bits and pieces that have no right to a state of their own, to be condemned to eternal division and humiliation for rejecting the words of Allah (S.W.A.T.). Islam represents the one and only true, relevant and timely religion; there is no need for any other.

Therefore, as far as radical, fundamentalist Islam is concerned, the success of the West in general and of the Jews and Israel – the West’s ‘imperialist branch’ – in a flourishing state in the heart of the Middle East, all seem to contradict and cast into doubt the mission and rightness of Islam. The success of the West is unbearable, so the Islamists have declared a war to the death against it and against Israel.

The meeting focused on the conflict in Egypt and Syria and an altercation broke out between a Brotherhood member and jihadist leader Mohammad al-Miqdad, and the latter asked the Brotherhood not to publicly denounce the actions of the jihadists.

The jihadists discussed their plans to start moving Syrian and Iraqi jihadists into Egypt in order to carry out terror operations there after the Eid al-Adha festival, which falls on Tuesday.

Obama Praises Islam For Setting ‘Powerful Example’ On How To Work Together And Address Common Challenges

President Obama lauds Islam for setting a “powerful example” but failed to provide any real ones himself. The truth of the matter is that Islam has done little but keep the Muslim world spiritually desolate in an 8th century Arabian culture while seeking to terrorize and subdue all others. US President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle today greeted Muslims across the world on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, lauding their faith for setting a ‘powerful example’ on how to work together to address common challenges.

‘As our Muslim neighbours and friends gather for Eid celebrations, Muslim Americans are among the more than three million pilgrims joining one of the world’s largest and most diverse gatherings, which serves as a reminder of the shared roots of the world’s Abrahamic faiths,’ Obama said in a statement.

Contrary to the claim of Muslim apologists like Barack Hussein Obama, Islam has never been and will never be an “Abrahamic faith.” There is only one faith of Abraham, and it is belief in YHWH and His Promise — Jesus Christ who was crucified — the very thing that Islam completely denies …

Galatians 1b-8a, 14, 16, “Before your very eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed as crucified… Abraham ‘believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.’ Understand, then, that those who have faith are children of Abraham. He said that Muslims around the world who are joining in offering their assistance to those suffering from hunger, disease and conflict to commemorate Eid, is a powerful example of the positive role that faith can play in motivating communities to work together to address shared challenges.

“Shared challenges” that Islam itself is often responsible for. The Islamic world is ravaged by war, by deprivation, by desert and famine and starvation and pestilences, conditions that are true both physically and spiritually, both literally and figuratively. Because of “Sharia lawlessness” the “Religion of Peace” is typified by widespread destruction and disparity, and any number of recent headlines bear this out all too well. In Sudan, for example, slavery is explicitly permitted and tens of thousands of Christians are held in bondage, taken as slaves and face starvation because of Sharia laws instituted by an Islamist government. In Mali, 4.6 million people are threatened with starvation following Islamist advances in the north. In Somalia, Islamists deprive 1.3 million people of food, clean water and health care after banning humanitarian aid. In Chad, children starve to death as Islamic “doctors” with “healing gifts from Allah” throw common sense to the wind. Islamists are killing aid workers in Pakistan for trying to save lives with “un-Islamic” polio vaccines. Nigeria faces famine because most of the farmers in the north are threatened by Islamist attacks seeking to impose Sharia Law upon all. As Islamists engage in an all-out war to oust Bashar Al-Assad and implement an Islamist state in Syria, a flesh-eating parasite dubbed the “Aleppo Boil” sweeps across the country while famine grips a desperate, war-weary population. Khouri, The Daily Star (Lebanon) – “An article and map in The New York Times’ Sunday edition two weeks ago examined the possibility that current upheavals may cause some Arab states to break up into smaller units. Written by the veteran foreign correspondent Robin Wright, the article created lively discussion among Middle East-focused circles in the United States, and in the Middle East it sparked wild speculation that it evidenced a new plan by Western powers, Israelis and others of evil intent to further partition large Arab countries into many smaller, weaker ones. The title of the article, ‘How 5 Countries Could Become 14,’ naturally fed such speculation, as did the immediate linkage in millions of Arab minds of how British and French colonial officials in 1916-1918 partitioned the former Ottoman lands of the Levant into a series of new countries called Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Iraq and Israel, while their colonial handiwork had also created new entities that ultimately became independent countries such as Kuwait, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and others.

Wright’s article explored the possibility that Libya could fracture into three units, Iraq and Syria into five units (of Druze, Kurds, Alawites, Sunnis and Shiites), Saudi Arabia into five units, and Yemen into two units. Syria might trigger such fragmentation across the region in stressed multisectarian societies. Most critics of the article and map were horrified by the possibility that foreign powers may once again be at work redrawing the map of the Middle East, reaffirming two of the greatest lived traumas that have long plagued the Arab world: the ability and willingness of external powers to meddle deeply and structurally in our domestic condition, and the total inability of vulnerable, helpless Arab societies to do anything about this.

I understand the harsh reactions by Arabs who fear another possible redrawing of our map by foreign hands, but I fear that this is not really the bad news of the day; the really bad news is the state of existing Arab countries, and how most of them have done such a terrible job of managing the societies that they inherited after 1920.

The horror map is not the one published in the NYT two weeks ago; it is the existing map and condition of the Arab countries that have spent nearly a century developing themselves and have so little to show for it.

‘Once-In-A-Decade Event’: Monster Typhoon Set To Pummel Fukushima, Japan

By Joe Kovacs, WND – “Packing heavy rains and winds up to 125 miles per hour, a monster typhoon called a ‘once-in-a-decade event’ by the Japan Meteorological Agency is on track to pummel the Tokyo area, home to the crippled Fukushima No. 1 nuclear plant.

‘It is the strongest typhoon in 10 years to pass the Kanto region (Tokyo and its vicinity),’ Hiroyuki Uchida, the weather agency’s chief forecaster, told a news conference.

‘It is expected to have a great impact on the traffic systems in the metropolitan area during commuting hours,’ he said.

The storm is causing atomic concerns since the plant has seen a rash of radioactive water spills in recent months, trying to keep its melted reactor cores cool.

The Wall Street Journal says many are ‘worried about what will happen to the plant and the thousands of tons of radioactive water stored in tanks there.’

‘We are making preparations for proper management of contaminated water,’ said a spokesman for Tokyo Electric Power Co. ‘We will patrol places that could have inflows of water (from the storm).’

He indicated cables and hoses have been bundled together, while ground and offshore works have been stopped, as the brunt of the storm hits on Wednesday.

According to Agence France-Presse, the power company announced 114 gallons of polluted water had spilled from a tank as workers tried to remove rainwater dumped at the plant by recent typhoons.

‘It has admitted contaminated water may well have flowed into the sea,’ AFP reported. ‘Japan’s atomic watchdog summoned the president of TEPCO for a public dressing-down for sloppy standards at the plant after the incident. The nuclear plant was badly damaged by the tsunami that hit in March 2011. Critics say it remains in a fragile state and at the mercy of extreme weather or other natural hazards.'” Read more.

Syrian Rebels Desecrate Churches, Replace Crosses With The Black Flag Of Al Qaeda

By Alissa Tabirian, CNS News – “A Syrian rebel group affiliated with Al Qaeda desecrated two Christian churches in Northern Syria late last month, replacing their crosses with the symbolic black flag of jihad.

The rebels also destroyed relics, painting and statues allegedly in response to the city’s anti-sectarian protests against the jihadist Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

‘We in the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights strongly condemn such sectarian actions that contradict the Syrian people’s demands in justice, freedom, democracy and equality,’ the group said.

Dubai-based al-Aan TV broadcast exclusive footage of members of the ISIS attacking the al-Shuhada Armenian Orthodox Church, also known as the Martyrs’ Church,  and the Sayida al-Bishara Catholic Church in the Islamist-held city of Raqqa.

The video, posted on YouTube, shows a jihadist on the roof of the church throwing a crucifix to the ground below, where it is kicked by an onlooker.

The conflict between U.S.-backed rebel groups and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, which has so far resulted in about 100,000 casualties, has also had grave consequences for the country’s vulnerable Christian minority.

Although Christians in Syria have been hesitant to take sides in the ongoing civil war, they are considered sympathetic to Assad, making them targets for rebel-led violence.

By Todd Starnes, Fox News – “Several dozen U.S. Army active duty and reserve troops were told last week that the American Family Association, a well-respected Christian ministry, should be classified as a domestic hate group because the group advocates for traditional family values.

The briefing was held at Camp Shelby in Mississippi and listed the AFA alongside domestic hate groups like the Ku Klux Klan, Neo-Nazis, the Black Panthers and the Nation of Islam.

A soldier who attended the briefing contacted me and sent me a photograph of a slide show presentation that listed AFA as a domestic hate group. Under the AFA headline is a photograph of Westboro Baptist Church preacher Fred Phelps holding a sign reading ‘No special law for f***.’

American Family Association has absolutely no affiliation with the controversial church group known for picketing the funerals of American servicemembers.

‘I had to show Americans what our soldiers are now being taught,’ said the soldier who asked not to be identified. ‘I couldn’t just let this one pass.’

The soldier said a chaplain interrupted the briefing and challenged the instructor’s assertion that AFA is a hate group.

‘The instructor said AFA could be considered a hate group because they don’t like gays,’ the soldier told me. ‘The slide was talking about how AFA refers to gays as sinners and heathens and derogatory terms.’

The soldier, who is an evangelical Christian, said the chaplain defended the Christian ministry.

‘He kept asking the instructor, ‘Are you sure about that, son? Are you sure about that?’’ he said, recalling the back and forth.

Later in the briefing, the soldiers were reportedly told that they could face punishment for participating in organizations that are considered hate groups.” Read more.
