By Christopher Atkins, Bleacher Report – “Two Somali suicide bombers blew themselves up accidentally in a failed attack on the weekend’s World Cup qualifier between Ethiopia and Nigeria in Addis Ababa, the Ethiopian government has revealed.

According to Reuters’ Aaron Maasho, via the Calgary Sun, the incident occurred in the Bole district of the city around 5km from the stadium where Sunday’s match was to be played.

The detonation took place at a residential property about one hour before the match was due to kick off, with three suspects detained at the scene. The area is home to a small Somali refugee population.

Per the Calgary Sun’s report, government spokesman Shimeles Kemal said:

They were Somali nationals and plotted to carry out a suicide attack disguised as fans on either the stadium or areas where large crowds gathered to watch the game.

Heavy police presence must have caused their nervousness and state of agitation which led to the detonation that caused their own death.

The report suggests that football shirts, explosives, grenades and firearms were discovered at the scene.

While there has been no claim of responsibility thus far, Somali Al-Shabaab rebels have promised to exact revenge on Ethiopia for sending troops into Somalia to fight Al-Qaeda militants, the Calgary Sun reports.

Just last month, following an Al-Shabaab siege on a shopping mall in Kenya, Ethiopia’s opposition group Medrek warned that the country could face ‘large-scale attacks’ from Somali rebels, per the Sudan Tribune.

It is not the first time that a sports event has been a target for terrorists, with this year’s Boston Marathon and the Munich Olympic Games two notable past instances of sports being at the centre of such an incident.” Read more.

By Ari Soffer & Ege Berk Korkut, INN – “Two Turkish university students were arrested at the site of the Majdanik Death camp, after giving Nazi salutes to a group of Israeli students and shouting ‘Heil Hitler’.

The two, identified by Turkish media as Mehmet A. and Mesut T., were arrested after members of the Israeli group filed charges, and are being detained for promoting fascist propaganda – a crime punishable by up to three years imprisonment in Poland.

But the pair protested their innocence, saying that although they appreciate that their actions were offensive, they had only meant it as a joke, according to Today’s Zaman

‘All we wanted was to take a couple of pictures [posing making the salute] as memories from the camp. We did not know it was a crime in Poland,’ claimed Mehmet A.

Mehmet said Polish police confiscated both of their passports, as well as a camera, and kept them in custody for two days before questioning them at the prosecutor’s office, following which they were released pending charges.

Anti-Semitism in Turkey is a growing problem, which some analysts blame on the ruling Islamist AKP party, whose own leading officials have actively engaged in anti-Semitic rhetoric.

By Vasudevan Sridharan, International Business Times – “Russia has foiled a deadly terror attack at one of its chemical facilities which could have killed ‘hundreds of people’, officials in Moscow said.

Russian officials have apprehended two Islamic extremists, who have been planning to launch an attack on the chemical storage facility in the central Kirov region.

The duo, aged 19 and 21, are said to be influenced by the Wahahbi school of Islam and hail from the restive North Caucasus region.

‘The action was planned in order to influence the decisions of the authorities and international organisations,’ said a statement from the investigators, according to the state-run RIA Novosti.

The suspects were planning to bomb the storage facility for more than a month, said officials.

Travelling from Moscow, the men occupied an abandoned house in Kotelnich to plot their attack.

While taking the men into custody, authorities have found extremist texts, a large cache of home-made explosives and fake passports.

It is unclear when the suspects were detained. The investigators have not released their names.

The chemical facility in Kirov stores tonnes of poison gases such as VX, sarin and Soman for disposal.” Source – IBT.

CBS News – “British law enforcement agencies averted a plot to orchestrate a large-scale terror attack similar to the assault on Kenya’s Westgate mall, an official said Monday.

Police were questioning four men in their 20s on suspicion of terrorism after they were detained Sunday in pre-planned, intelligence-led raids.

A British security official said the men were planning a shooting spree akin to the Westgate attack in Nairobi, in which at least 67 people died.

The official – who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media on the record – said it was not clear how advanced the planning was but that any attack was not imminent.

Metropolitan Police did not identify the suspects or say what, if any, charges, they may face. But in a series of statements, the force said the men were all British nationals between the ages of 25 and 29, with roots in Turkey, Pakistan, Algeria and Azerbaijan.

The force confirmed that the London police firearms unit took part in the arrests. British police rarely carry weapons and their involvement suggested concern that men might have been armed.

Dramatic CCTV footage has emerged of one of the arrests, in which counter-terror police are seen tackling a suspect on the street in an upscale west London neighborhood.” Read more.

When the Prophet Daniel wrote that Antichrist would intend to “change” or “make alterations” to times and law, it is quite clear that the “law” was a direct reference to the desired implementation and subjugation of Sharia Law upon all non-Muslims, regardless of where they lived. But seeking to make changes to the “times” was likely not referring to switching Greenwich Mean Time with Mecca Time or replacing the Gregorian calendar of Christianity with the Hijri calendar of Islam. It is becoming increasingly apparent that the alteration of “times” is a direct reference to something we’re witnessing this very day both inside and outside the Muslim world: the rewriting of history …

By Joe Herring & Dr. Mark Christian, American Thinker – “Many are familiar with the concept of revisionist history — the rewriting of past events to reflect a particular bias — but there is a contemporary example that receives far too little attention in our American media, that being the history of Jews in the Middle East.

Palestinian apologists have made a major industry out of creating a past for themselves by distorting the archeological record.  What cannot be distorted is ignored, and what cannot be ignored has, in some cases, been destroyed.  Not surprisingly, this particular form of historical reconstruction invariably finds the lowly Jew to be an interloper in the Middle East — not only now, but throughout all of discernable history.

One such apologist, Mr. Maen Rashid Areikat, ‘honored’ our fair city of Omaha, Nebraska recently when he spoke at the invitation of the Global Studies Conference at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.  Mr. Areikat is the director-general at the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) Negotiations Affairs Department and a close advisor of Mahmoud Abbas.  He is presently the chief representative of the PLO delegation to the United States.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recently described Iranian leader Hassan Rouhani as ‘a wolf in sheep’s clothing.’  He might wish to apply that description to Areikat, a man for whom the phrase may well have been coined.

Mr. Areikat’s message is a simple one.  Jerusalem belongs to the Palestinians and, by extension, to Islam.  Of course, his message has far fewer sharp edges when he delivers it to non-Muslims.  He adopts a folksy, world-weary tone when calling for a Palestinian state, as if he has been single-handedly standing up to the recalcitrant Israeli leadership, and while desperate for help, he remains too humble to ask.

In an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal last year, Areikat presented the case that a Palestinian state is in Israel’s best interests.  He championed the preferred narrative of the anti-Israeli left with a deftness born of mindless repetition, repeating the long-debunked argument that the Jewish claim to Jerusalem is no stronger than that of the Palestinians.  He goes on to contrast the ‘brutal’ Israeli occupation of the West Bank and Gaza against the Palestinian Authority’s altruistic efforts to normalize relations.

When he is not as guarded in his speech, Areikat reveals the white bone of Islamic inflexibility.  Asked in an interview if the Jews ever had a Temple in Jerusalem, he demurred, saying Read more…
