Senior Cleric For American Muslim Group: The Punishment For Leaving Islam Is Death

Don’t forget, the best example for mankind said it, so that’s all there is to it. No ands, ifs, or buts. It’s all for peaceful purposes, you see. Since millions of Muslim Americans must therefore believe that anyone who leaves Islam should be put to death, I guess we’re off the hook since the overwhelming majority of us were never Muslim to begin with. Unless, of course, it’s true that according to Islam every child is born a Muslim. And here I was trying to look on the bright side, considering that only a few hundred thousand Muslims in America believe that infidels like me should be killed for offending them …

Sahih Muslim, Book 033, Number 6426, “The Prophet Muhammad said, ‘No babe is born but upon Fitra (as a Muslim). It is his parents who make him a Jew or a Christian or a Polytheist.’”

Hadith: Bukhari 9.84.57, “Muhammad said, ‘Whoever changed his Islamic religion, then kill him.’”

Center for Security Policy – “Dr. Hatem al-Haj, a senior committee member for the Assembly of Muslim Jurists of America (AMJA), confirmed in the below fatwa from July 2011 that the Islamic punishment for apostasy is death. A couple of things stand out to me about this fatwa.

First, this fatwa was taken down from AMJA’s website as far back as October 2011, along with other fatwas on the same topic, possibly in response to an article written by my colleague Andrew Bostom exposing the rulings in that same month. (See the fatwa on archive.org, while the link on AMJA’s website is broken.) So either AMJA changed their minds about the penalty for apostasy; or, more likely, they just don’t want non-Muslims seeing what they really think on controversial topics. If that’s the case, then what else are they not telling us?

Second, the question that leads to the fatwa is tellingly not asking what the ruling is on apostasy, but rather how to explain this ruling to others, including non-Muslims. While Dr. al-Haj confirms that the penalty for apostasy from Islam is death, he also recommends that when explaining this to others, you should start with the caveat that this is something which should only be carried out in a Muslim country through the court system.

AMJA likes to hide behind that caveat, but at the same time they encourage Muslims in the United States to use the American legal system in order to establish Islamic law (see here and here). So isn’t it fair to assume that Dr. al-Haj and AMJA would like to eventually make death for apostates the law of the land here in the United States as well?” Read more.

Palestinians Issue New Threat To Obama: ‘Insane’ Temple Mount Visit Would Offend Islamic Nations ‘All Over The World’

WND – “Despite there being no information President Obama plans to ascend the Temple Mount on his upcoming trip to Israel, Hamas last night stepped up its threats regarding Palestinian rumors the U.S. president may visit the sacred site.

‘Visiting of Obama with Israeli soldiers entering the Al Aqsa Mosque will actually touch the deep and the tender part of the Palestinian, Arabic and Islamic countries all over the world,’ Mahmoud al-Zahar, Hamas’s senior leader in the Gaza Strip, stated.

Zahar apparently was alluding to previous Palestinian and Arab rioting instigated after then-Prime Minister Ariel Sharon’s visit to the Temple Mount in 2000.

Zahar continued: ‘If he is looking to have this visit it means he is accepting Israel as a legitimate occupation, which is undermining his morality and his credibility. Jerusalem up to this moment and all of the Palestinian land is under occupation.’

The Hamas leader was speaking Sunday night on WABC Radio’s ‘Aaron Klein Investigative Radio.’

Zahar said his group doesn’t have ‘any hope of any results from his visit to the region.’

Asked if his expects Obama to open dialogue with Hamas during the president’s second term, Zahar replied, ‘Up to this moment there is no indication about this.

‘And if he is looking to have a negotiation or a dialogue about what is he going to speak? He will fail if he is going to believe we are a new example of Fatah, that we believe in talking just for talking,’ he said.

‘We are looking for real change in the attitude and the policy of America toward the state of the occupation of our land,’ Zahar continued.

Contacted by WND, neither Israel nor the Palestinian Authority say they have any information Obama plans to visit the Temple Mount amid Palestinian rumors that such a trip is in the works.

NASA: Something Unexpected Is Happening To The Sun, ‘The End Of 2013 Could Be A Lot Livelier Than The Beginning’

NASA Science – “Something unexpected is happening on the sun. 2013 is supposed to be the year of Solar Max, the peak of the 11-year sunspot cycle. Yet 2013 has arrived and solar activity is relatively low. Sunspot numbers are well below their values in 2011, and strong solar flares have been infrequent for many months.

The quiet has led some observers to wonder if forecasters missed the mark. Solar physicist Dean Pesnell of the Goddard Space Flight Center has a different explanation:

‘This is solar maximum,’ he suggests. ‘But it looks different from what we expected because it is double peaked.’

Conventional wisdom holds that solar activity swings back and forth like a simple pendulum. At one end of the cycle, there is a quiet time with few sunspots and flares. At the other end, Solar Max brings high sunspot numbers and solar storms. It’s a regular rhythm that repeats every 11 years.

Reality, however, is more complicated. Astronomers have been counting sunspots for centuries, and they have seen that the solar cycle is not perfectly regular. For one thing, the back-and-forth swing in sunspot counts can take anywhere from 10 to 13 years to complete; also, the amplitude of the cycle varies. Some solar maxima are very weak, others very strong.

Pesnell notes yet another complication: ‘The last two solar maxima, around 1989 and 2001, had not one but two peaks.’ Solar activity went up, dipped, then resumed, performing a mini-cycle that lasted about two years.

The same thing could be happening now. Sunspot counts jumped in 2011, dipped in 2012, and Pesnell expects them to rebound again in 2013: ‘I am comfortable in saying that another peak will happen in 2013 and possibly last into 2014,’ he predicts.

Another curiosity of the solar cycle is that the sun’s hemispheres do not always peak at the same time. In the current cycle, the south has been lagging behind the north. The second peak, if it occurs, will likely feature the southern hemisphere playing catch-up, with a surge in activity south of the sun’s equator.” Read more.

Suspected Islamist Gunmen Attack Church In Libya’s Benghazi, Christian Leaders Assaulted

Reuters – “Gunmen attacked an Egyptian Coptic church in the eastern Libyan city of Benghazi, assaulting two priests, the official LANA news agency quoted the foreign ministry as saying on Sunday.

The foreign ministry said it ‘strongly condemned Thursday’s attack on the Egyptian church … and the aggression towards Father Paul Isaac and his assistant by the irresponsible armed men,’ LANA quoted a foreign ministry statement as saying.

It did not elaborate on the attacks but said an inquiry committee involving the interior, defense and justice ministries had been formed and had ‘taken the necessary measures to secure the church and its occupants’.

It expressed ‘deep concern’ over the attack, saying it was ‘contrary to the rules’ of Islam and international human rights laws.

Libya’s small Christian community has expressed fears over Islamist extremism as the government struggles to impose its authority over armed groups which have refused to lay down their weapons since the 2011 war that ousted Muammar Gaddafi.

In December, an explosion at a building belonging to a Coptic church in Dafniya, close to the western city of Misrata, killed two Egyptian men and wounded two others.

Last month, four foreigners were arrested in Benghazi on suspicion of being Christian missionaries and printing books about Christianity.” Read more.

Jihad-286x275By JOHN GRIFFING, WND – “A leader for the Texas branch of the Council on American Islamic Relations has told a crowd at a rally for Islam that members of the faith really shouldn’t be bound by American law.

‘If we are practicing Muslims, we are above the law of the land,’ said Mustafa Carroll, the executive director of the Dallas-Fort Worth CAIR branch, a keynote speaker as the recent rally.

The event was a rally in Austin, a part of the nationwide effort to hold ‘Muslim Capitol Day’ events.

CAIR itself has been under investigation for its documented ties to terrorist organizations in the past. Some details revealed by Daniel Pipes are that:

  • CAIR funded the Holy Land Foundation, which was used to funnel money to Hamas. President Bush shut down Holy Land Foundation, which CAIR called ‘unjust’ and ‘disturbing.’
  • CAIR denied Osama Bin Laden was behind 9/11, even though Bin Laden said so on camera.
  • CAIR demanded removal of a billboard in Los Angeles in 1998 that described Osama bin Laden as ‘the sworn enemy,’ saying that this description was ‘offensive to Muslims.’ [Osama had by this point released his Declaration of War on the United States.]
  • CAIR called the conviction of the 1993 WTC bombers ‘a travesty of justice.’
  • CAIR called the conviction of Omar Abdel Rahman, the blind sheikh who planned to blow up New York City landmarks, a ‘hate crime.’
  • CAIR labeled the extradition order for suspected Hamas terrorist Mousa Abu Marook ‘anti-Islamic’ and ‘anti-American.’

CAIR also had on its advisory board Siraj Wahhaj, an unindicted co-conspirator in the attempted 1993 WTC bombings. It was the same Siraj Wahhaj who was asked to deliver the ‘Juma,’ or invocation at the Democratic National Convention for President Obama. He also once remarked, ‘It is my duty and our duty as Muslims to replace the U.S. Constitution with the Quran.’

According to the website about the event, Muslims from around Texas went to the Capitol in Austin to ‘promote civic and political activism throughout the wider Muslim community.’

The organization reported, ‘One major issue discussed was the recent House and Senate bill proposals involving the implementation of ‘anti-Shariah’ legislation, where the First Amendment rights and freedoms of Muslims would ultimately be hindered.’

Critics allege that Shariah prohibits other faiths from free exercise when enforced, and would actually invalidate the American First Amendment, unless practitioners were Muslim.

Carroll’s statement was similar to a statement made by CAIR Chairman Omar M. Ahmad, who is on record saying, ‘Islam isn’t in America to be equal to any other faith, but to become dominant. The Quran…should be the highest authority in America, and Islam the only accepted religion on earth.’

Bright Comet Pan-STARRS Intensifies Over The Australian Sky

Observers in the southern hemisphere report say they can see Pan-STARRS with the unaided eye in the evening sunset sky. Carl Gruber photographed the comet on March 2nd over the city lights of Melbourne, Australia:

‘Despite bad light and smog pollution, the comet’s nucleus was clearly visible to the naked eye as well as a small part of the tail,’ says Gruber. Light curves show the comet is approaching 2nd magnitude, about as bright as the stars of the Big Dipper.

Several important dates are approaching. On March 5th, Comet Pan-STARRS makes its closest approach to Earth (1.09 AU), followed on March 10th by its closest approach to the sun (0.3 AU). As Comet Pan-STARRS passes the sun, solar glare will make it difficult to see even as the nucleus vaporizes and brightens. By March 12th and 13th, the comet will reappear in the sunset skies of the northern hemisphere not far from the crescent Moon; think photo-op! Close Shave: Newly Found Asteroid To Pass Within Moon’s Orbit On March 4, 2013

By NANCY ATKINSON, Universe Today – “A newly found asteroid will pass just inside the orbit of the Moon, with its closest approach on March 4, 2013 at 07:35 UTC. Named 2013 EC, the asteroid is about the size of the space rock that exploded over Russia two and a half weeks ago, somewhere between 10-17 meters wide (the Russian meteorite is estimated to be about 15 meters wide when it entered Earth’s atmosphere). 2013 EC was discovered by the Mt. Lemmon Observatory in Arizona on March 2. . There is no chance this asteroid will hit Earth.

2013 EC will come within 396,000 kilometers from Earth, (246,000 miles, or around 1.0 lunar distances, 0.0026 AU.

The Moon’s distance from the Earth varies between 363,104 km (225,622 miles) at perigee (closest) and 406,696 km (252,088 miles) at apogee (most distant point).

Gianluca Masi from the Virtual Telescope Project had a live view of the asteroid when it was about twice the distance of the Moon, and a replay of that webcast is available below.

‘That we are finding all these asteroids recently does not mean that we are being visited by more asteroids,’ Masi said during the webcast, ‘just that our ability to detect them has gotten so much better. Our technology has improved a lot over the past decades.’

Plagues of locusts? Meh. US Secretary of State John Kerry just announced that he’ll be handing over $250 million to Egypt in support of it’s beautiful democratic future, so all is well. Or is it? …

By STUART WINER, The Times of Israel – “An enormous swarm of locusts is plaguing Egypt, in a development that agricultural authorities admitted they failed to predict.

Egyptian Agricultural Minister Salah Abad Almoman said the swarm, comprising an estimated 30 million insects, descended on Giza, near southern Cairo, where it is causing great damage.

‘The armed forces and the Egyptian border units are trying to battle the swarm with various means at their disposal,’ Almoman said, according to a report in Maariv, but the report did not detail what action was taken. The minister appealed to local residents to refrain from attempting to deal with the ravenous horde themselves.

‘I ask the families living in the area afflicted with the swarm to not light car tires,’ he said. ‘It doesn’t drive the locusts away, it only causes damage, and it could start a fire that will take human life.’
