ABC Australia – “Police say a large-scale anti-terrorism raid in Sydney this morning has foiled a plot to ‘commit violent acts’ in Australia, including a plan to behead a member of the public.

More than 800 officers launched the raids as part of Operation Appleby in suburbs across Sydney’s west and north-west, with a further 70 police involved in raids on properties in Brisbane’s south.

Police said 15 people had been detained in Sydney as part of the operation between NSW officers, the Australian Federal Police and ASIO.

Court documents are expected to reveal that the raids, at 25 different properties, were aimed at a cell which planned to behead a member of the public in Sydney.

The documents are expected to say that the plan involved snatching a random member of the public in Sydney, draping them in an Islamic State group (IS) flag and beheading them on camera.

Prime Minister Tony Abbott said he was briefed last night on the operation, adding that the intelligence received by police gave ‘not just suspicion’ but ‘intent’.

‘The exhortations, quite direct exhortations, were coming from an Australian who is apparently quite senior in ISIL to networks of support back in Australia to conduct demonstration killings here in this country,’ he said, using another acronym for IS.

‘That’s why the police and security agencies decided to act in the way they have.’

Mr Abbott will cut short his visit to Arnhem Land today to farewell RAAF crews heading to the Middle East and to attend security briefings on the terror raids in Sydney.

He said the operation commenced earlier this year and had interrupted a terrorist attack in Australia.

‘Police believe that this group that we have executed this operation on today had the intention and had started to carry out planning to commit violent acts here in Australia,’ he said.

‘Those violent acts particularly related to random acts against members of the public.’

Commissioner Colvin said the raids in Brisbane were not ‘directly linked’ to the raids in Sydney, but authorities were looking to see whether there were any links.

He said the Brisbane raids were linked to a similar operation in Queensland last week, when an Islamic bookshop was searched, and two men arrested.

NSW Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione said the raids reflected ‘the reality of the threat we actually face’.

‘You know it is of serious concern that right at the heart of our communities we have people that are planning to conduct random attacks,’ he said.” Read more.

ISIS Marked Christian Homes With “N” (Nasara in Arabic) To Identify The Home As Belonging To Nazarenes (Christians). These Homes Now Belong To The “Islamic State.”

AINA – “The Arabic language Alsumaria News is reporting that ISIS has ordered all Sunni businesses with Christian and Shiite partners to deliver the non-Sunni share of the business to the Islamic State. ISIS gave a two day deadline to comply with the order, else all assets would be confiscated.

According to the report, ISIS has a complete list of of businesses with Christian and Shiite partners.

ISIS is now charging tariffs on all goods entering the Nineveh Province. Goods deemed offensive to Islam are seized and destroyed.

In other news, ISIS has removed all clothes from department stores in Mosul and imposed the Afghan style of clothing on the city. ISIS has also segregated male and female students at the University of Mosul, changed the curriculum and renamed the Fine Arts college to ‘Text Decoration.'” Source – AINA.

ISIS Using Christian Homes In Mosul As Factories For Explosive Devices – “A number of Mosul residents have said that ISIS has turned Christians homes into factories for improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and car bombs. In interviews with ankawa.com, residents confirmed that ISIS are now searching for Christians homes containing hiding places and shelters, since they are expecting ground forces backed by the Iraqi government to begin clearing operations in the city.

A resident said ISIS is using a Christian home in the Hadbaa neighborhood for manufacturing IEDs. He sees them on a daily basis as they bring welding machines to the house and install various extensions to cars. Another resident said that many ISIS terrorists are using a house belonging to a Christian who used to work in the Nineveh Province as their headquarters, engaging in welding and blacksmith projects. World Watch Monitor – “What ISIS has done in Iraq, Boko Haram is doing in Nigeria, a Nigerian cleric says.

‘The news is really bad. When they attacked our hometown, we decided to vacate the place. In Michika and surrounding areas, soldiers were running away. Some of them were killed or wounded and lot of people were also running for their lives,’ Rev. Samuel Dali, President of the Church of the Brethren in Nigeria, told World Watch Monitor as he was on the run, a few metres from the Cameroon border.

During the weekend of Sept. 6-7, Boko Haram militants took over Dali’s hometown of Michika, in Adamawa State, on Nigeria’s eastern border. Recent territorial gains made by Boko Haram in the northeast, he said, signal the end of his home and of the church in that part of the country, Africa’s most populous.

In Iraq, The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, or ISIS, swept across the country’s north in June, forcing hundreds of thousands of people, about a quarter of them Christian, fleeing from their homes. Hundreds have been killed. Whole towns have essentially emptied of Christians and non-Sunni Muslims, and their places of worship have been destroyed or occupied.

The situation in the parts of northeast Nigeria overrun by Boko Haram is similar, Dali said.

‘We have lost almost everything,’ he said. ‘Most of our churches have been destroyed and our pastors are scattered all over. Our members have fled and some of them killed. That’s what we have tried to prevent from happening.’ The Church of the Brethren is known locally as Ekklesiyar Yan’uwa a Nigeria, or EYN Church.

And, as in Iraq, Nigerian Christians are on the run, Dali said.

During the weekend attacks, dozens of cars loaded with people and luggage formed a long queue. Many, he said, were confused, and didn’t know where to go. Some are thinking of crossing the border to Cameroon, while others planned to reach relatives and friends elsewhere in Nigeria.

In recent weeks, thousands have already crossed the border as the insurgents have overrun several major towns, notably Bama, the second-largest city of Borno State with about 270,000 inhabitants and just 45 miles away of Maiduguri, the state capital.

Despite government assurance that Maiduguri is safe, traditional elders — a forum made up of retired civilian and military officials — have told Nigerian news media that Boko Haram has surrounded the capital …” Read more.

By Barbara Boland, CNS News – “Amnesty International released a 26-page report ‘that provides harrowing new evidence’ of the Islamic State’s ‘ethnic cleansing on a historic scale,’ the ‘systematic targeting of ethnic and religious minorities,’ along with dozens of eyewitness accounts of gruesome mass executions within Iraq.

Survivors recount horrific massacres of men and boys by Islamic State fighters in northern Iraq and the Sinjar region. Women and children are captured, enslaved, raped or sold into sexual slavery. Thousands, feared to have been abducted, have not been heard from again. Over 830,000 people have been driven from their homes in fear of their lives.

‘The Islamic State is carrying out despicable crimes and has transformed rural areas of Sinjar into blood-soaked killing fields in its brutal campaign to obliterate all trace of non- Arabs and non-Sunni Muslims,’ Donatella Rovera, Senior Adviser to Amnesty International said Tuesday.

The report states that minorities that have lived together in the Ninevah province for centuries, like the Assyrian Christians, Turkmen Shi’a, Shabak Shi’a, Yezidis, Kakai and Sabean Mandaeans, have been threatened with death if they do not convert to Islam. When they refuse to convert, there have been mass executions of men and boys, while women and girls have been abducted. There are reports that they have been sold into sexual slavery or forced into marriage.

Here is the account of eyewitness Hawwas Hashem, who had hidden himself nearby Qiniyeh in June:

“After hours of clashes with the IS militants who were attacking our village we were overpowered and fled toward the mountain. Many of us stopped in Qiniyeh; there had been no clashes there and we thought we would be safe. There were many families, men, women and children. Hundreds all together. The IS men left and after a while they came back with several vehicles. Four of the vehicles surrounded the house where I was with my family.

“I ran away and hid in a nearby hill. From there I could see what was happening. It was early afternoon – broad daylight. They brought all the people out of the houses and divided the men from the women and children. They put the women and children in vehicles and drove away and marched the men and some young boys to the wadi nearby. They made them kneel or crouch along the edge of the wadi, and shot them in the back. I counted about 67 who were killed and some others survived and ran away after the IS militants left. Then I ran away from the hill to Mount Sinjar.”

Amnesty Inernational reports that witnesses indicate up to 80-85 men and boys ‘were shot dead on the edge of the village of Qiniyeh [and] many more are reported to have been killed in smaller groups further away from the village…’

Armenpress – “The perpetrators of the Turkish genocide of Armenians and other Christians at the beginning of the 20th century did not act out of concern for some nation state but simply behaved as mandated by their bloodthirsty god. Armenpress reports that this was published by the Turkish poet Serkan Engin in the article titled ‘Genocide in the name of Allah’. The situation last week for these East Jerusalem Christians is only a foretaste of what is coming. From Zechariah’s perspective above, it is possible that he was prophesying about the eastern portion of Jerusalem that includes the “Old City” that was built around 1000 years before Christ. The Old City, also known as the City of David, was the entire city of Jerusalem up until about 1860. The Western Wall is there, as is the Church of the Holy Sepulchre along with the Dome of the Rock and al Aqsa Mosque. It is near where Jesus was crucified and is the spiritual homestead of the Judeo-Christian faith.

Jews, Christians and Muslims all now reside within the Old City. Today, however, Muslims make up the overwhelming number of residents. And as we are being regularly reminded, these residents have become increasingly “radicalized” and lawless, filled with a fomenting hatred of Jews and even Christians. In light of Zechariah 14, we can therefore expect to one day witness an “intifada” unlike any other. Perhaps a triggering event of some sort will spur the Muslim population to immediately rise up, to possibly then be joined by others either coming from or coming through the West Bank, taking over much of the Old City. ‘Palestinian Christians Report Suffering In Israel, Gaza,’ BosNewsLife, August 31, 2014:

GAZA/JERUSALEM (BosNewsLife) – Palestinian Christians in Israel and across the border in Gaza were facing more difficulties Sunday, August 31, after being forced out of a church in Jerusalem, while in Gaza they were among those rebuilding their lives after weeks of death and destruction.

Pastor Steven Khoury said after seven years of threats and and attacks by hard-line Muslims he was forced out of his Palestinian Calvary Baptist Church in East Jerusalem.

The congregation, part of Holy Land Missions, moved out of their building in the Shofat area of Jerusalem in July after Islamists threatened their landlord, Christians said.

On Sunday, August 31, they were still for a safer and more permanent place to meet.

Pastor Steven Khoury linked the troubles to their decision to moved into the building in a predominantly Muslim area in 2007….

Sources within the Chaldean Patriarchate told AsiaNews that yesterday Sunni fundamentalists tortured and killed a Christian man in Bartala, a small predominantly Syriac town in the Niniveh Plains that has been occupied by Jihadists for the past few weeks. He was part of a small group who did not flee when the place was overrun.

According to reports from a witness, the martyr – as the Patriarchate calls him – was a man of 43, Salem Matti Kourki. He died yesterday after being brutally beaten and tortured by terrorists for refusing to convert to Islam.

One of Salem’s relatives said that the victim could not flee with his family when Islamists entered the town of Bartala on 8 August because he suffered from heart disease.

He was holed up in his home for more than three weeks, eating and drinking what had been stockpiled in the house.

Yesterday, after he ran out of food and water, he went out to find some food. However, he was stopped at an IS checkpoint in front of the Church of the Virgin Mary, in the city centre, and was immediately arrested. IS fighters tried to convert him by force to Islam but he refused outright.

The fundamentalists beat and tortured him causing his death, then dumped his body in the street, which was found a few hours later by local residents, who took him and buried him.

A funeral service will be held on Friday at the Oum El Nour Syriac Orthodox Church in Ankawa, a Christian suburb of Erbil, in Iraqi Kurdistan, to honour the memory of the martyr Salem.

Meanwhile, more Christians are dying in Iraq’s capital, Baghdad.

According to reports from Mgr Pius Qasha Khoury, from the Syrian Catholic Church of Mansour/Baghdad, one of his parishioners was killed by a car bomb, which exploded in the Bayaa area, at 9 pm yesterday.

The prelate explained that the young martyr, Fadi Nabil Ibrahim Abbush, was born in 1994 and was in the second stage of college, studying accounting.
