Egyptian Convert Flees Potential Dangers in Syria
“ISTANBUL, April 21 (CDN) — A father and daughter who fled Egypt to Syria after spending two and a half years in hiding for becoming Christians have arrived in France and yesterday applied for asylum there, human rights advocates said.

He and his daughter, 17-year-old Dina Mo’otahssem, arrived in Paris from Syria on March 30 after having fled to Damascus on Feb. 22 in the wake of the revolution in Egypt that deposed then-President Hosni Mubarak.” Read more.

Nigerian President: Violence After Muslim Lost Election “Was Not a Spontaneous Reaction”
“Indeed it wasn’t, on many levels. As with the rampages in Afghanistan and Pakistan that used the Qur’an burning in Florida as a pretext (which, ironically, wound up burning untold numbers of Qur’ans in the process), the inclination toward violence was already there, waiting for another excuse to make a show of force and abuse non-Muslims. And as with those ‘protests,’ we have seen that even the flimsiest of pretexts will do. If it is not one excuse du jour, it might be the next day’s ‘provocation’ or ‘humiliation.’
These incidents would not happen — and would not keep happening — if not for an able and willing populace, and pre-existing hatred and intolerance of non-Muslims.
Here, of course, there is another angle. It is quite reasonable for President Jonathan to surmise that many Muslims in the north were poised and ready to let loose once the votes were counted. The election results show the Muslim candidate didn’t stand a chance, but that didn’t matter: if the Muslims could win the election, Islamic law could advance that way. If they lost, they would attempt to advance Islamic law the old fashioned way, demanding concessions through violence and threats.” Read more.

By DINA ALSHIBEEB – “Islamists in southern Egypt are continuing their protests against the appointment of a Coptic Christian as governor, and have vowed not to stop until he was removed from office, The Associated Press reported on Tuesday.
The ultraconservative Salafis began their protest on Friday in Qena against the new governor, Emad Shehata Michael, who, they fear will not properly implement Islamic law. Muslim Mobs Kill At Least 100 Christians, Burn Over 40 Churches in Northern Nigeria
“International Christian Concern (ICC) has learned that Muslim rioters have killed more than 100 Christians and burned down more than 40 churches in an attack that began yesterday in response to the election of Jonathan Goodluck, a Christian, as president of Nigeria. The rioters even destroyed the homes of many Muslims who supported President Jonathan Goodluck.
The Muslim attackers allege that the election was rigged and General Muhammadu Buhari, a Muslim presidential candidate, is the rightful winner. Yet, impartial observers have called this election the fairest in decades. According to the Commonwealth observers’ report, ‘The elections for the National Assembly and the Presidency were both credible and creditable and reflected the will of the Nigerian people.’
According to ICC sources, it is difficult to know the full extent of the damage. The casualties could be much higher as the attacks took place over many of the 12 Muslim majority states in northern Nigeria.” Read more.

Iraq: Islamists Calling for the Complete Extermination of Christians in the Country
“Iraq (MNN) ― More Christians have been fleeing Iraq in recent months than ever before.
Carl Moeller with Open Doors USA says extremists are calling for the complete extermination of believers in the country.
‘We’ve been calling this a ‘religicide’–which is the systematic destruction and elimination of a religious group simply for being that religious group. And we see this now unfolding in a very shocking way,’ says Moeller.
The number of Christians in Iraq has dropped dramatically in the last few decades, dropping from 850,000 believers in 1991, to 550,000 believers in 2003, to 345,000 believers in early 2010. Now perhaps less than 250,000 Christians call Iraq home, a number which includes those who have been permanently displaced from their homes.” Read more.
Clinton Warns Intolerance Threatens to Hijack Arab Revolutions and Spread Extremism
By Matthew Lee – “BERLIN — U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton is warning that rising intolerance toward women and religious minorities threatens to hijack democratic transitions around the Arab world and spread violent extremism.
Clinton told an award ceremony in the German capital on Friday that she was disturbed by recent developments in post-revolt Egypt in which women and Coptic Christians were singled out for attacks and abuse. She said such incidents test the unity of pro-democracy demonstrators whose peaceful protests ousted Egypt’s authoritarian president and could fracture the reform movement.
Clinton said she feared similar backsliding elsewhere in the Mideast…” Read more.
