ANP/AFP – “Police in the Kenyan capital Friday said they have arrested two suspects who were allegedly planning suicide attacks, and also seized six explosive vests and other arms and ammunition in an overnight raid.

‘These suspects wanted to use these arms to harm innocent Kenyans during Sunday church services,’ a police officer involved in the raid told AFP.

He said two other suspects still at large were being hunted by police.

Nairobi deputy police chief Moses Nyakwama Ombati said the two suspects detained, both Somali nationals by birth and naturalised Kenyans, were arrested at a house in the Eastleigh area of the city, known as Little Mogadishu.

He said the suicide vests seized were wired up to mobile phones complete with batteries and were therefore ready for use.

Local law enforcement authorities are stepping up patrols around Coptic Christian houses of worship to deter those who might target them because the producer of an anti-Muslim movie that sparked unrest in the Middle East has ties to the religion.

And unlike Muslims, who whine after every Muslim terrorist attack that they now have to live in fear, American Copts have justifiable reasons to be afraid of violence.

Saad says Coptic migration increased after the 1967 war with Israel, and in the 1970s when Anwar Sadat ruled Egypt. The period saw a rise of fundamentalist Islam, culminating in Sadat’s assassination in 1981. His successor, Hosni Mubarak, clamped down on Islamists, and Egypt’s approximately 8.5 million Copts were relatively safe during the next three decades — though the community did face violence and pressure. But ever since the ouster of Mubarak in 2011, and the subsequent rise of the Islamist Muslim Brotherhood as a political force, there has been a steady increase in Coptic emigration to the U.S. and elsewhere.

“Numbers have greatly increased over the past 18 months since the so-called Arab Spring,” Saad said. “We are seeing tens of families in every church every month.”

Jews are also afraid, even though Sam Bacile, who falsely claimed to be Jewish, was not Jewish at all.

The Wiesenthal Center, which regularly denounces anti-Semitic activities around the world as it documents the Holocaust and hunts down Nazi war criminals, urged the media to avoid casting the video as an Israeli or Jewish product.

By GREG TEPPER, The Times of Israel – “Al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri on Thursday released an audio recording hailing the ‘blessed’ September 11 terror attacks as ‘the greatest blow’ America had ever suffered. He also asserted an Islamic duty to ‘liberate’ every inch of Muslim lands, and called upon Muslims to ‘purify’ their countries of corrupt leaders during what he termed a period of ‘American weakness.’

Muslims should ‘topple the western proxies’ left in their countries ‘and especially the Saud clan and the gulf sheiks in the Arabian peninsula,’ he declared.

Al-Zawahiri also urged Muslims to capture citizens of countries that fight Muslims in order to hold them as hostages and force the release of Muslim prisoners.

In comments translated by the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI), al-Zawahiri commemorated the ‘blessed raids’ in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania. He also noted ‘defeats’ suffered by the United States in recent years in Afghanistan, Iraq and through the demise of ‘four of its collaborators in the Arab world’ – references to the fall of leaders during the Arab Spring.

Al-Zawahiri said the 9/11 attacks were launched due to the ‘Zionist-crusader occupation of Muslim lands, and especially of Palestine.’ The attacks were carried out ‘to confront the modern crusader campaign, which aims to make us disintegrate, so it could more easily devour us, one piece after another.’

‘One cannot rely on the governments in the liberation of Palestine and the defense of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, because these governments are incapable of doing so, and in so many cases, they assist Israel in its aggression,’ he said.

He also said the Islamic nation is capable of defeating the ‘Zionist-Crusader enterprise…in the heart of the Islamic world and especially in occupied Palestine, like it defeated this enterprise…in Iraq and Afghanistan, and like it managed to deliver the greatest blow in the history of America, on its own land, changing American history and destroying its economy.’

He said there was a need to establish an Islamic state that will follow a ‘godly path’ and that will renounce secularism and democracy, which believes in brotherhood among Muslims and in the unity of Muslim lands, doing away with borders that were created by colonial powers. This state will consider its duty the ‘liberation’ of ‘every inch of Muslim land, from the Caucuses to Zanzibar, from Afghanistan and Kashmir to East Timor and the Philippines, and from east Turkestan to Andalusia.’ That state will believe that the ‘liberation of Palestine’ is a duty incumbent upon all Muslims…” Read more.

Al Qaeda in Yemen Urges Muslims to Kill U.S. Diplomats Over Film – “The Yemen-based branch of al Qaeda urged Muslims to step up protests and kill more U.S. diplomats in Muslim countries after a U.S.-made film mocking the Prophet Mohammad which it said was another chapter in the ‘crusader wars’ against Islam. ‘Whoever comes across America’s ambassadors or emissaries should follow the example of Omar al-Mukhtar’s descendants (Libyans), who killed the American ambassador,’ the group said …” Read more.

“WASHINGTON (AP) — Federal authorities have identified a Coptic Christian in southern California who is on probation after his conviction for financial crimes as the key figure behind the anti-Muslim film that ignited mob violence against U.S. embassies across the Mideast, a U.S. law enforcement official told The Associated Press on Thursday.

The official said authorities had concluded that Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, 55, was behind ‘Innocence of Muslims,’ a film that denigrated Islam and the prophet Muhammad and sparked protests earlier this week in Egypt, Libya and most recently in Yemen. It was not immediately clear whether Nakoula was the target of a criminal investigation or part of the broader investigation into the deaths of U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans in Libya during a terrorist attack.

Attorney General Eric Holder confirmed Thursday that Justice Department officials were investigating the deaths, which occurred during an attack on the American mission in Benghazi.

The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss an ongoing investigation, said Nakoula was connected to the persona of Sam Bacile, a man who initially told the AP he was the film’s writer and director. But Bacile turned out to be a false identity, and the AP traced a cellphone number Bacile used to a southern California house where it located and interviewed Nakoula.” Read more.

Flashback: Egypt: Islamist Organizations Distribute Leaflets Calling For The Killing Of All Christians Who Will Not Convert To Islam – “According to today’s issue of El Fegr, ‘Elements of terrorist, jihadi organizations distributed leaflets today inciting for the killing of Copts in Suez, Ismailia, and Upper Egypt, promising them [Copts] a tragic end if they do not return to the truth.’ An image of a copy of the letter appears on El Fegr’s website. Titled ‘An Urgent and Important Notice,’ it begins by calling on ‘all brothers and sisters’ to ‘kill or physically attack the enemies of the religion of Allah—the Christians in all of Egypt’s provinces, the slaves of the Cross, Allah’s curse upon them…’ It proceeds to promise a monetary reward for whoever helps ‘achieve Allah’s rights against his enemies.’” Read more.

Al-Qaeda Leader Ayman Al-Zawahiri: “It is absolutely out of the question that the US will defeat the spirit of Jihad in the Islamic nation – the same spirit that defeated the US in the battlefield, as well as in the war of ideas. The strength of Al-Qaeda lies in its message to the Islamic nation and to the oppressed in this world. The message is: Rise against the global order of injustice, against international arrogance, and against worldwide theft. Rise against the polytheist [Christian] regime, which worships materialism, power, interests, and pleasure. By Moataz Nadi, Egypt Independent -“Several Coptic leaders voiced concerns about what they called discriminatory policies of President Mohamed Morsy, warning of increasing emigration among the country’s largest minority.

Medhat Kelada, head of the European Union of Coptic Organizations for Human Rights, said Sunday that nobody should cast doubts on Copts’ patriotism and added that while Morsy pardoned Islamist detainees who faced criminal charges, he has not pardoned any Copt who was imprisoned in a sectarian or political case.

He added that what is happening under Morsy’s rule does not differ much from what happened under former President Hosni Mubarak.

In an interview with Al Arabiya satellite channel that was later published on its website, Kelada said Copts are being uprooted in several places in the country and that a report on the issue has been prepared.

Coptic lawyer Mamdouh Ramzy said 100,000 Copts have applied for emigration to the US, and others have applied to go to Scandinavian countries. He added that changes to the demography of Egypt will have extremely dangerous repercussions.

Ramzy also rejected foreign intervention in the affairs of Egyptian Copts, calling instead for the full implementation of the principle of citizenship in Egypt.

Meanwhile, reports have circulated about the Netherlands Embassy accepting applications for asylum by Copts, but the embassy responded by explaining that there is no special policy with regards to Coptic applicants. The embassy said Egyptian Christians who already reside there may apply for asylum and their cases will be investigated to see if a genuine threat exists and warrants asylum.

Coptic thinker Kamal Zakher said the Netherlands did not take such a step out of love for Egyptian Copts and added that if the US takes a similar step, it would not be doing so out of love, either.” Read more.

By Ahiya Raved, ynet – “The Nazareth Magistrate’s Court has sentenced Sheikh Nazem Abu Salim Scapa to three years in prison and 18 months probation for incitement to violence and terror and supporting terror organizations.

The court said Scapa’s Friday sermons at the Shihab al-Din mosque in the city inspired two terror cells to attack Jews and Christians. One of the gangs has also been charged with murdering cab driver Efim Weinstein in 2009.

Scapa, 47, has served as the imam of the Shihab al-Din mosque for the past 15 years, but he delivered sermons in other mosques as well – including the al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem’s Old City. He was arrested in November 2010.

‘This is one of the more serious cases ever discussed in Israel’s courts,’ said Judge Lily Young-Gefer on Tuesday. ‘Had the defendant’s activity not been stopped his followers’ terrorist activity would have expanded further.’…

In April, Judge Young-Gefer mentioned that one of Scapa’s sermons called for ‘violent acts of vengeance (beheadings) against those who have dishonored the prophet (Muhammad). This was no abstract call to annihilate the heretics, but a direct call for violence against anyone who dishonors the prophet and Muslims.’

The judge said the imam’s publications encouraged the ‘highest and most dangerous level’ of violence. Scapa urged his followers to ‘slaughter and fight,’ according to Young-Gefer.” Read more.

“Washington, D.C. September 7 (International Christian Concern) – Al Shabab, an Al Qaeda-linked terror group in Somalia, has sought to rid the region of Christians and is specifically targeting Christian converts from Islam. Many Somali Christians, having fled persecution in their homeland, have found little security in neighbouring East African countries. Even in the Christian-majority country of Kenya, radical Islam is steadily gaining numbers and influence.

Two months ago, three Christian converts from Islam returned to their homeland to attend a university in Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu. The men, whose identities have been concealed for their protection, had been working in Ethiopia and converted to Christianity in 2005. Upon their return, however, people grew suspicious when the men were not seen praying at the local mosque.

‘One of our fellow students jokingly questioned us about why we were not serious about attending prayers at the mosque,’ recalled one of the men. ‘I kept quiet and the discussion ended. Three days later is when we were attacked.’

On June 25, six armed Al Shabab militants entered the Christians’ home and opened fire. The Christians were found by neighbors and were rushed to the hospital. All three suffered gunshot wounds and, after spending a week in the hospital, they determined it was no longer safe to live in Somalia. The men crossed the southern border into eastern Kenya joining thousands of other displaced Somalis in refugee camps in Dadaab.

Local sources told ICC that Al Shabab had been closely monitoring the men for months. ‘New arrivals outside of Somalia are monitored by Al Shabab because they are considered to support western ideologies, including foreign religions, and they are viewed as sympathizers to the West,’ said a Somali journalist in the area. ‘That is why they were victimized.’

The men’s plight is one among many acts of violent extremism that has targeted the Somali Christian community in recent months. In a similar case, a Christian family fled Buula-barde, a village in central Somalia, after receiving death threats in May. ‘The extremists began sending threatening messages to their mobile phones to recant their faith or face execution,’ …” Read more.
