By Giulio Meotti, INN – “‘The number of persecuted Christians in the world is 150 million.’ There are many other figures, terrifying and dramatic, in the pages of the ‘Blackbook of the plight of Christians in the world’, a unique initiative of French scholars and coordinated by journalist Samuel Lieven. Snapshots of a global and amorphous war.

In particular, there is a disconcerting statistic: ’80 percent of the acts of religious persecution in the world are directed against Christians.’ How many victims? The Center for the Study of Global Christianity brings the average of one hundred thousand Christians killed each year for their faith throughout the last decade. An average of five Christians every minute.

Yesterday, in Pakistan, two Christians, including a pregnant woman, were burnt alive in the brick kiln where they worked. It was a pogrom with the participation of four hundred Muslims.

Haim Korsia, Chief Rabbi of France, cries out his reaction in the face of the spread of hatred against Christians, and establishes a comparison with the destruction of Eastern Sephardic Jewry:

‘Where are the Jewish communities once so rich of Aleppo, Beirut, Alexandria, Cairo or Tripoli? Where are the schools of Nehardea and Pumbedita in Iraq? And where is the flourishing of Judaism in Esfahan and Tehran? In our memory. Driven out, killed, decimated, persecuted and exiled, the Christians of the East are personally experiencing the same plight as the Jews with whom they have lived for so long and have seen leaving those places’.

The NGO Open Doors declared that the persecution in Iraq has reached ‘biblical proportions’. Tuesday, in Rome, the annual report of Aid to the Church in Need was also presented. It told that of the 20 countries in the world where religious freedom is virtually absent, 14 are Muslim, and the others military or communist dictatorships, such as North Korea.

We are facing what Habib Malik of Stanford University calls ‘the final phase of the regional decline of Christians.'” Read more.

Abu Mus ‘ab al-Maqdisi, a leader in the Islamic State, said in a statement titled ‘Advice to Egypt’s Mujahidin [jihadis],’ published on websites linked to the ‘caliphate,’ that ‘It is necessary to take the battle to Cairo, until the Sinai is safeguarded from the apostates [reference to Egyptian government] and becomes a rear base [qaeda] to expand the jihad from.’

He added that ‘You have a good example in the Islamic State when it was bombing Baghdad on a daily or weekly basis with car bombs and other operations.’

He also called on jihadis in Egypt to ‘target the Copts,’ the nation’s indigenous, Christian minorities: ‘For targeting them, following them, and killing them is one of the main ways to serve the cause of our virtuous male and female hostages of the tyrants.'” Source – Jihad Watch.

Flashback’: Christians Are Being Tortured, Slaughtered In The Sinai Just For Being Christians – “… this Christian man from the African country of Eritrea is going by ‘Philip,’ but that’s not his real name. CBN News covered his identity for his protection. ‘In some cases, we were tortured simply because we were Christians,’ he told us, his chest trembling slightly as he spoke… Shorham has documented more than 1,300 cases of torture in the Sinai. Those survivors, like Philip, made it to Israel. But most of the cases of torture are not documented. ‘They torture them in horrible methods, like hanging upside down from the ceiling, like using electric shocks, like burning them on their bodies,’ Shorham said …” Read more.

Among other Islamic attacks, a Christian church that had stood Iraq for 1,800 years — a church that was erected less than 200 years after Christ — was reportedly torched by the Islamic State, according to countless news agencies, including Al Arabiya.

Islamic State jihadis also stormed and took over an ancient monastery in northern Iraq. St. Behnam monastery had stood since the fourth century and was one of Iraq’s best-known Christian landmarks. It was built by an Assyrian king as a penance for executing his children Behnam and Sarah for converting to Christianity.

The jihadis expelled its few monks; they said, ‘You have no place here anymore, you have to leave immediately.’ The monks pled to be allowed to save some of the monastery’s ancient relics, but the jihadis refused and ordered them to walk miles along a deserted road with nothing but their clothes.

The Islamic State issued a July 19 deadline for Mosul’s Christians either to convert to Islam or face execution. Islamic State members also singled out Christian homes by placing the Arabic letter for ‘N’ — based on the Arabic word Nasara, or ‘Nazarenes,’ the Koran’s pejorative for Christians — on the sides of their homes. The result, in the words of Patriarch Louis Sako, is that, ‘For the first time in the history of Iraq, Mosul is now empty of Christians.’

In response to the Islamic State’s latest atrocities against Iraq’s Christian minorities, the Syriac Orthodox Bishop of Mount Lebanon and Tripoli, George Saliba, denounced not just the Islamic State but Muslims in general for their long ‘history of violence and oppression against Christians’:

What is happening in Iraq is a strange thing, but it is normal for Muslims, because they have never treated Christians well, and they have always held an offensive and defaming stand against Christians…. We used to live and coexist with Muslims, but then they revealed their canines [teeth]…. [They don’t] have the right to storm houses, steal and attack the honor of Christians. Most Muslims do this; the Ottomans killed us and after that the ruling nation-states understood the circumstances but always gave advantage to the Muslims. Islam has never changed…

Islamic organizations responded by denouncing the Syriac bishop’s words as ‘hateful’ and Islamophobic, demanding an apology.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also made some telling remarks concerning the plight of Christians, especially in those Mideast countries the U.S. is involved in. Sex Slaves: Islam’s Spoils Of War

By Johnlee Varghese, International Business Times – “In a rather shocking revelation, it has been found that Islamic State militants have been selling Yazidi and Christian girls as young as one to nine years of age for a price of $172 in Iraq.

Activists working ‘secretly’ out of Iraq haveleaked a ‘price list’ of the ISIS slave markets, from where men can buy Yazidi and Christian women as ‘sex slaves.’

According to a report published by Iraqi News, ISIS has imposed these ‘price controls’ over the sale of women and spoils of war, including cattle as the market lately has experienced a down-turn.

It also stated that those disobeying the diktat ‘would be executed.’

On the price list, the youngest is a mere one-year-old girl, while the oldest is 50.

The price for the girls between one- and nine-years is the highest, followed by Yazidi or Christian girls between the ages of 10 and 20, priced at $130.

Women between the ages of 20 and 30 were being sold for $86; a 30 to 40 year was being sold for $75 and 40 to 50 year old women were listed for sale at a price of $43.

The barbaric group that has full-fledged slave markets both in Mosul, Iraq and Raqqa, Syria; has even gone to the extent of justifying its kidnapping of women as sex slaves citing Islamic theology.

‘One should remember that enslaving the families of the kuffar — the infidels — and taking their women as concubines is a firmly established aspect of the Shariah, or Islamic law,’ the group had said in an online magazine report, reported CNN.

In the price list translated from Arabic, the ISIS says: ‘In the name of Allah, most gracious and merciful. We have received news that the demand in women and cattle markets has sharply decreased and that will affected Islamic State revenues as well as the funding of the Mujaheddin in the battlefield. We have made some changes. Below are the prices of Yazidi and Christian women.'” Read more.

Agence France Presse – “A Franciscan priest and 20 other Christians have been seized by the Nusra Front in a village in northwestern Syria, the Franciscan mission to the Holy Land said Tuesday.

‘On the night of October 5th, Father Hanna Jallouf of the Custody of the Holy Land, parish priest at Qunyeh, Syria, was taken by some brigades linked to Jabhat Al-Nusra,’ a statement from the Custody of the Holy Land said.

Following their capture, an unspecified number of Franciscan nuns had taken refuge with the villagers, it said.

Qunyeh is a village of several hundred people in Idlib province, and lies some eight kilometers from the Turkish border.

According to top Franciscan official Father Pierbattista Pizzaballa, Custos of the Holy Land, the 62-year-old priest was seized along with 20 villagers.

‘He has been kidnapped,’ he told AFP in Jerusalem, expressing deep concern over the fate of the priest, a Syrian who has worked in Qunyeh for 12 years after a posting in the Jordanian capital, Amman.

‘They are accusing them of being collaborators’ with the regime of Syrian President Bashar Assad, he said, insisting that this was not true.

‘We don’t know what to do. We don’t know with whom to talk, we’re totally unable to get in touch with anyone,’ added Pizzaballa, the guardian of the Catholic Church’s sites in the Holy Land.

According to a source linked to the Franciscan Order in Aleppo, Nusra rebels had forced their way into the convent and ‘looted everything.'” Read more.
