By Jack Moore, International Business Times – “A prominent Nigerian reverend has revealed Islamist terror group Boko Haram destroyed over 180 churches in the West African country following its capture of towns and villages in the north-eastern states of Borno and Adamawa.

Reverend Gideon Obasogie, the director of Catholic Social Communication of Maiduguri Diocese in Borno State, said the group’s seizure of territory in both states has seen 185 churches torched and over 190,000 people displaced by their insurgency.

In his statement, Obasogie said Boko Haram’s ‘ransacking and torching’ of churches had forced priests to leave their homes for two months while displaced civilians were still unable to return to their towns and villages.

He added the destruction of churches was ‘sad, heart-aching and potentially dangerous to the territorial integrity and common good of Nigeria.’

‘It is over 30 days now that our church communities in Gulak, Shuwa, Michika, Bazza were ransacked by the callous attacks of the Boko Haram terrorists,’ the statement said.

‘Our priests are displaced, while citizens…are counting their losses and regrets as they have been reduced to the status of Internally Displaced Persons [IDP]. Where is the freedom?’

‘Life is really terribly difficult. We are waiting eagerly to go back home, even as it is obvious that we are going to [have to] reconstruct our looted and burnt houses and ecclesial structures.

The source told al-Masalah ‘Unidentified armed men assaulted a home belonging to a Christian family in the area of the al-Aamel neighborhood in southwest Baghdad and killed a mother and her three sons. By Jack Moore, IBT – “Christians in Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley have begun arming themselves in preparation for an Isis (now known as the Islamic State) offensive as it seeks to expand its territorial control outside of Syria.

Up to 3,000 militants from the Islamic State and other jihadists occupy the mountain range between Lebanon and Syria near the Sunni town of Arsal.

As IS seek to grab land outside of the mountain caves and farms they currently control, Christian volunteers have now created village defence forces to protect against the Sunni militants who have taken up to 21 Lebanese soldiers and policemen hostage.

‘We are a minority and we are under threat by the jihadists,’ Rifaat Nasrallah, a commander of the volunteer guards in the Greek Catholic town of Ras Baalbek, said.

‘It wasn’t the idea of anyone in particular,’ Nasrallah says of the formation of defence units. ‘The whole village felt in danger so we all agreed it was necessary.’

‘We don’t shoot if we see someone or something moving in the mountains,’ said one of the watchmen. ‘We just call the Army and they investigate.’

Ras Baalbek has a population of 15,000 and is  separated from the flashpoint town of Arsal by a range of hills.

‘Imagine if Islamic State makes it into Ras Baalbek and they crucify a Christian. It will set Lebanon alight,’ a western diplomat in the Lebanese capital of Beirut, speaking on condition of anonymity, told The Times.

Here’s an update on this story. How on earth could a young boy living in Australia have been instilled with such hatred by the time he reaches his teenage years? Look no further than the Muslim community itself, where a parent can proudly give their children posters calling for the beheading of non-Muslims and the authorities do nothing, where a Muslim preacher can publicly pray for the slaughter of non-Muslims and the authorities do nothing, where a Muslim lecturer can openly threaten the non-Muslim way of life, and the authorities do absolutely nothing.  We shouldn’t be shocked when the fecklessness of those sanctioned with the protection of Western society encourages, emboldens and empowers the type of recklessness seeking to destroy it …

By Ashlee Mullany, The Daily Telegraph – “A TEENAGE boy who screamed threats to ‘slaughter the Christians’ outside a school in Sydney’s west has been charged with intimidation and offensive conduct.

Police allege the 14-year-old boy from Wentworthville was sitting in the passenger seat of a car when he yelled the abusive comments while waving a flag outside Maronite College of the Holy Family in Harris Park last Tuesday.

Onlookers were left shaken and terrified after a nun told police the boy was waving a flag that resembled the IS flag and had threatened to ‘slaughter the Christians.’

College spokesman Joseph Wakim said at the time the school community was shocked but stressed no students were around when the threats were made and the incident was an isolated one.

Police later visited the school to speak to students and review CCTV footage of the incident.

Yesterday, police from the Rosehill local area command arrested the 14-year-old boy and charged him with intimidating a school staff member and offensive conduct.

‘Just before 4pm on Tuesday, a small red car, with two male occupants, drove past a school on Alice Street at Harris Park,’ a police statement read.

‘It’s alleged a 14-year-old boy sitting in the front passenger’s seat, yelled abuse out of the window while holding a flag.’

By Daniel Williams, The Washington Post – “In the part of his Sept. 10 speech on confronting the Islamic State that probably drew the least attention, President Obama mentioned the need to help Christians and other minorities, expelled from cities and villages in northern Iraq, return from where they came. ‘We cannot allow these communities to be driven from their ancient homeland,’ he said.

Obama got that wrong. Christians, of whom around 120,000 have taken refuge in Iraqi Kurdistan, will not be going home even if their tormentors suddenly disappear.

I spent 10 days talking with Christian refugees in Irbil, the capital of the northern autonomous region of Kurdistan, this month, and they are adamant they will not be returning to Mosul and nearby towns on what is known as the Nineveh Plain.

It is not simply that these Christians have gone through tremendous trauma. It is not only because they lost everything, including their homes and businesses, and in some cases spent days and even weeks in detention while being badgered to convert to Islam, where they saw babies taken from mothers’ arms to be held for ransom and busloads of young people ferried off into the unknown.

Nor is it because their neighbors, in Mosul but especially in the countryside, welcomed and even joined fighters from the Islamic State, pointed out the homes of minorities and let them know which ones were wealthy.

No, it is because, for Christians in Iraq, the past three months have been the climax of 11 years of hell. We Americans have short memories (that goes for you, too, in the ‘Bush Was Right’ crowd), but it’s worth noting that Christians began having serious problems within a year after the fall of Saddam Hussein in 2003. Sometimes it was the work of al-Qaeda, sometimes Sunni insurgents pining for the return of Sunni control of Iraq. Sometimes it was Shiite militias fighting the Sunnis but finding time to persecute Christians.

First came assaults on stores that sold alcohol. Then, in August 2004, bombs were placed outside five churches in Baghdad and Mosul. Eleven people died. Two more churches were bombed in November, and Christians began to flee to Kurdistan, Jordan and Syria. Since then, at least 60 churches in the country have been bombed. The latest was in Baghdad on Christmas Day last year.

Priests and bishops became particular targets, in order to deliver a message to their flock that no one is safe. In Mosul in June 2007, gunmen shot dead a Chaldean Catholic priest and three deacons because the priest refused to convert to Islam. The next year gunmen kidnapped Mosul’s Chaldean archbishop, Paul Rahho, and killed his driver and two bodyguards. The abductors stuffed Rahho into the trunk of a car, from where he was able to call a colleague by mobile phone and instruct the church not to pay ransom. He was found dead a few days later in a shallow grave.good

Attacks on lay Christians were continuous. Women received threatening messages demanding that they stop working. Families received death threats attached to demands for money called ‘daftar,’ slang for $10,000. Children were taken and held for ransom. Both Sunni and Shiites, though busy with what amounted to a civil war, found time to attack and expel Christians from the Baghdad suburb of Dora.

There are so many parallels of 1938 all over again. Not that there are a huge number of Christians remaining, but why not make it official for any who do? Christians can’t buy. Christians can’t sell. In fact, it is forbidden for Christians to even own anything. So now, to sink its iron teeth further in the fruit of its labor, Christians are officially forbidden from attending schools. Considering the Islamic State’s new regressive 7th century standards, however, everyone would be much smarter staying home anyway …

AsiaNews – “For the first time in history, Iraqi Christians who always had a ‘high standard of education’ in the region, are being deprived of the right to study and cannot attend schools. This represents a further threat to the survival of the minority, not only in Iraq but throughout the Middle East, because there is not the risk that an entire generation ‘will not be educated’, which is a ‘very bad sign’.  The warning comes from Msgr. Shimoun Emil Nona, Chaldean Archbishop of Mosul, in the north, the second most important city in the country and first city to fall into the hands of the militia of the Islamic State.

Interviewed by AsiaNews, the prelate confirms that ‘currently children from many of the refugee families’ as well as ‘children who live in Christian areas’ cannot start the school year. ‘There are about 700 schools scattered between Erbil, Ankawa and Zakkho – he explains – but they are hosting displaced people and are full. In other non-Christian areas  the lessons have begun, but not here’. Moreover in the areas occupied by the Islamic Caliphate the curriculum has been changed to promote Islam and the Koran.

Msgr. Nona was the first to raise the alarm of the danger posed by the advance of the Islamists after the conquest of Mosul, where about 500 thousand people – Muslims and Christians – fled in early June to avoid being forced to convert to Islam.  It was also where the militants founded their caliphate and imposed sharia. In cities and in areas on the Nineveh plain that are under the control of the Islamic State schools have reopened. However, under the instruction of their leader the curriculum has changed to ban history, geography and literature; students must study Arabic and the Muslim religion and are forbidden to speak of the Republic of Iraq or Syria, only of the Caliphate.

An Mosul elementary school teacher of mathematics and Arabic states that ‘we are in 2014, but it seems have regressed 14 centuries.’ 95% of the 2,450 schools in the area – Mosul and Nineveh Plain – are in the hands of the Islamists, who have forbidden mixed classes and have closed the Faculty of Law, because ‘conventional law is no longer in force.’ Rigid rules, imposed by force, are increasingly arousing the impatience of the local population. If at first people saw them as liberators from a central government (under former Shiite Prime Minister al-Maliki) regarded as the oppressor, today 98% of the people – as reported by an academic in Mosul – ‘would like to see them gone as soon as possible’.

The archbishop of Mosul, who is also a refugee Ankawa, in Iraqi Kurdistan, cannot confirm this radical change of attitude towards the Islamic state and the distortion of the curriculum at the hands of the militia. He admits however, to ‘having heard similar rumors’, and there is a good chance that ‘they are true.’ There are still some Christians in the city, but ‘very few’ who live ‘isolated’ and ‘in danger’ because ‘anything could happen to them’.” Read more.

Qur’an Sura 4:95, “Not equal are those believers [Muslims] who sit (at home) and receive no hurt, and those who strive and fight in the cause of Allah with their goods and their persons. Allah hath granted a grade higher to those who strive and fight with their goods and persons than to those who sit (at home) …”

According to Sura 4:95, Muslims who do not fight are inferior to Muslims who do. To fight “with their goods and their persons” is violent, physical warfare, evidenced by the fact that those who fight with their goods and their persons “slay and are slain” (Sura 9:111). According to Qur’an Sura 61:10-12, which was given in battle, “Allah” will forgive the sins of those who fight with their goods and persons. Forgive them how? “The sword is the key of heaven and hell; a drop of blood shed in the cause of Allah, a night spent in arms, is of more avail than two months of fasting or prayer: whosoever falls in battle, his sins are forgiven” (The “Prophet” Mohammed). According to Islam, the Islamic State is therefore not violating its teachings. It is putting them into practice. And the only way for the Islamic State to truly have nothing to do with Islam as Obama suggests is, ironically enough, if the Islamic State were to suddenly stop murdering, raping and pillaging for the cause of “Allah” and his idolatrous “prophet.” And that is something that will never happen …

By Paul Sperry, Investor’s Business Daily – “President Obama’s notion that the Islamic State is ‘not Islamic’ and that ‘no religion condones killing’ doesn’t square with the army of Muslims that the terror group is attracting. The CIA figures as many as 31,500 Muslims have joined IS.

It’s hard to believe there’s more than 30,000 serial killers in the world, including at least 2,000 in the West, and they’re all suddenly flocking together in search of victims. In the entire U.S., there are at most 50 active serial murderers by FBI estimates.

Clearly, something else is motivating all these Muslims, yet Obama insists it’s not their faith.

‘He is wrong,’ said Islamic scholar Dr. Muhammad Zareef.

‘They are true Muslims fighting in the cause of Allah,’ he added in an interview. ‘The Quran makes it very clear that a good and faithful Muslim has every reason to kill non-Muslims. ISIS and other groups like them take these verses into their hearts.’

The forbidden truth is, the Islam that IS practices is firmly rooted in Islamic scripture and sanctioned by Islam’s most influential scholars, says Zareef, who studied Islamic law for eight years after growing up in a devout Muslim home in the Mideast. Now living in the U.S., he became a reformer after 9/11.

‘One of the things that disturbed me most was the Quran made it very clear the only assurance of going to heaven is if a Muslim kills an infidel (unbeliever) in jihad or dies in jihad,’ he said, citing Surahs 2:190-193; 5:33-34; 8:39-41; 9:20; 9:29; 9:111; 9:123; 22:58-59; and 47:1-4, among other verses.

‘Muslims are instructed to use warfare to defend and promote Islam,’ explained Zareef, author of ‘Allah’s Plan for Muslims.’ ‘All unbelievers are regarded as being at war with Allah and his religion; therefore, they deserve to die. Muslims have permission to kill all who don’t believe in Allah.’

Jihadists, he says, are following the example of the Muslim prophet set forth in Al-Bukhari book 52 of the Hadith, a sacred text supplementing the Quran. They ‘are trying to honor Prophet Muhammad’s speech and the Quran verses by killing non-Muslims,’ he said. ‘And if I, as an ordinary Muslim, say anything against such violence, they will treat me the same way as they do non-Muslims.’

Zareef says the Quran ‘encourages terrorism’ against infidels, citing Surah 2:216, 243-244; 3:157-158; 4:74; 8:12; 9:5; and 47:4-6, while repeatedly directing jihadists to ‘smite at their necks.'” Read more.
