By John Rondy – “MILWAUKEE, Wis (Reuters) – A powerful storm system that moved through the nation’s midsection over the weekend caused what may be a record-breaking seven tornadoes in Wisconsin, officials said Monday.

‘It’s one of the most significant tornado outbreaks in April,’ said Rich Mamrosh, meteorologist for the National Weather Service. He said if confirmed, the number of Sunday night storms may have broken a record for a single day in April in the state — the previous record was six.

Mamrosh said a strong low pressure system moved from South Dakota to northern Wisconsin Sunday, moving warm, moist air into the state, which was followed by a cold front, producing the storms.”  Read more.

“The Japanese government’s nuclear safety agency has decided to raise the crisis level of the Fukushima Daiichi power plant accident from 5 to 7, the worst on the international scale.

The Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency made the decision on Monday. It says the damaged facilities have been releasing a massive amount of radioactive substances, which are posing a threat to human health and the environment over a wide area.

The agency used the International Nuclear and Radiological Event Scale, or INES, to gauge the level. The scale was designed by an international group of experts to indicate the significance of nuclear events with ratings of 0 to 7.”  Read more.

“ISIOLO/MANDERA, 6 April 2011 (IRIN) – Thousands more heads of livestock have died in Kenya’s arid Northeastern province as La Niña drought conditions worsen and water shortages become more acute.

Drought monitoring and assessment reports indicate that the hardest-hit areas are Marsabit, Moyale and Mandera. Livestock farmers in the three regions have lost more than 17,000 animals since January, according to officials from the Kenya Red Cross Society (KRCS) and the government’s Arid Lands and Resource Management Project (ALRMP).

Mass deaths of livestock began in February, but the average daily loss of animals has risen in the last three weeks as crucial water sources dried up. Many of the remaining water sources are contaminated, leading to increased incidents of water-borne diseases such as typhoid, amoeba and diarrhoea.” Read more.

Local residents don’t have that answer, but they did report the finned casualties to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. One of them, Stephenie Dobson, reported the oddity to the Courier and sent along a photo on Facebook.

Sweden Plans to Deport Former Imam Who Converted to Christianity

“If anyone changes his religion, kill him” (cf. Bukhari vol. 9, bk. 84, no. 57).  What is wrong with many Western countries?  Are they that ignorant of the fact that it is an automatic death sentence for anyone who converts from Islam to another religion?  We should all be doing everything in our power to save this man and others like him, not deporting him back to a country where genocide against Christians is taking place on a daily basis.

By James Heiser – “A former imam who converted to Christianity is facing extradition from Sweden to his native Iraq, where he may face imprisonment or death for his “apostasy” from Islam. According to an article at Dagen.se (translated by Google):

A former imam, who lives in Karlskoga and who converted to Christianity must be deported to Iraq, the Administrative Court of Appeal has decided.

Bengt Sjoberg, local politician from Filipstad and heavily involved in refugee issues, said that the former Imam [had] been baptized in the Baptist church in Karlskoga and openly share[d] [his] faith with others. ‘This is absolutely horrible. This is a genuine conversion and many of us can testify that there is a man who lives as a Christian.'” Read more.

Another Strong Earthquake Strikes Japan; Fukushima Nuke Plant Evacuated

04/11/2011 Leave a comment

“SENDAI, Japan — A strong new earthquake rattled Japan’s northeast Monday as the government urged more people living near a tsunami-crippled nuclear plant to leave, citing concerns about long-term health risks from radiation.

The magnitude 7.0 aftershock came just hours after people bowed their heads and wept in somber ceremonies to mark a month since a massive earthquake and tsunami that killed up to 25,000 people and set off a crisis of radiation leaks at the nuclear plant by knocking out its cooling systems…

Japanese officials said the quake was a 7.0 magnitude, but the U.S. Geological Survey said it measured magnitude 6.6.”  Read more.

Arab League to Appeal for Gaza ‘No-Fly Zone’

04/10/2011 Leave a comment

It was only a matter of time before the Arab League, hot off the heels of their success in convincing the UN Security Council to implement a no-fly zone over Libya to protect the al Qaeda-linked rebels, would set their sights on Gaza.  So let me get this straight — the Arab League wanted al Qaeda-supported rebels protected, and now they want a second terrorist organization, Hamas, protected too?  Am I missing something here?

By William EDWARDS – “AFP – Arab League chief Amr Mussa said on Sunday the organisation will ask the UN Security Council to impose a no-fly zone over Gaza, which Israel has pounded with air strikes in response to rocket fire.

Mussa told an emergency meeting of Arab League ambassadors that ‘the Arab bloc in the United Nations has been directed to ask for the convention of the Security Council to stop the Israeli aggression on Gaza and impose a no-fly zone.’

Israeli and Palestinian officials were on Sunday floating a ceasefire to end fighting in the coastal strip where Israeli air strikes have killed at least 18 people since Thursday.” Read more.
