Syria: Christians Afraid To Go Out At Night Ask For Prayer, Armed Mob Attacks Monastery
“In the wake of a year of protests and violence, the volatile situation in Syria has brought great suffering to the entire population. Syrian Christians say their greatest need right now is prayer, according to Open Doors, an international ministry supporting persecuted Christians and religious freedom around the world.
The danger has prompted many churches across the country to meet only in daytime, many only on Sundays. On Fridays, the weekly Islamic day of assembly, many Christian schools now close. Because of rampant killing, theft and kidnapping of children, some parents have stopped sending their children to school. Syria also suffers a lack of fuel and electricity, an economy in shambles and few jobs.
‘Christians’ plights vary by place,’ said Dr. Carl Moeller, president and CEO of Open Doors USA. ‘Damascus Christians seem to have the fewest difficulties; in contrast, many Homs believers have fled what has become a war zone.’
Some Christians want to stay; others desperately seek to emigrate, said Moeller. Many say they simply cannot flee.
‘Many believers tell us that Syria is where they belong and will remain, even if that means dying there,’ he said.
More than 80 percent of Christians have fled Homs, the city where fighting is the worst. Looters have invaded the homes of those who have fled. At least one evangelical church has been attacked. Those who remain have limited means of safe transportation. Few attend church services.” Read more.
Syria: Armed Attack On Catholic Monastery – “For the first time in the history of the conflict in Syria, an armed attack has been made on a Catholic monastery, reported Vatican Radio on Saturday. About 30 armed men wearing masks attacked the monastery, founded by Jesuit from Italy Paolo dell’Olio. Attackers demanded money and weapons. According to the abbot, no one was killed or wounded. ‘However, it is strange that the attackers sought weapons in a monastery, known as a center of dialogue and reconciliation between Muslims and Christians,’ – said the monk. According to the Catholic Archbishop of Damascus, maronite Samir Nassar, the situation in the country is spiraling out of control as the armed opposition spreads its influence to different regions of the state.” Read more.
Sun Unleashes 5 Solar Eruptions in 2 Days
Space.com – “Things on the sun have certainly been heating up. Our closest star unleashed five solar eruptions in only two days last week, producing extraordinary northern lights displays for lucky skywatchers over the weekend.
The solar storms flared up between Feb. 23 and 24 and exploded from nearly all areas of the star, including the top, bottom, left and right sides of the solar disk as seen by space-based observatories, according to NASA scientists. In fact, four of these outbursts came within a single 24-hour period.
One of the eruptions churned out an impressive magnetic filament in the early hours of Feb. 24. This triggered the first of two coronal mass ejections (CMEs) that were blasted toward Earth. CMEs are massive eruptions of solar plasma and charged particles that can produce potentially harmful geomagnetic storms when the they hit Earth’s magnetic field lines.
Scientists closely monitor these events because the most powerful geomagnetic storms can disrupt satellites in orbit, cause communications interference, and damage other electronic infrastructure. But, one of the less harmful effects of geomagnetic storms is that they can amp up normal displays of Earth’s auroras (also known as the northern and southern lights).
The Feb. 24 eruption was captured in a video by NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory. The filament, which is visible in the extreme ultraviolet wavelength, shoots out from the sun, sending clouds of plasma into space.” Read more.
Obama: Sharia Enforcer
By Robert Spencer – “Madness has overtaken Washington, and the world. Every day this past week has brought fresh reports of more people murdered in Afghanistan over the burning of some copies of the Qur’an at Bagram Airfield. In response, every day new apologies come from American officials. Barack Obama, Leon Panetta, the commander of NATO troops in Afghanistan, General John Allen, and others have all issued abject apologies to Afghan President Hamid Karzai, the ‘noble people of Afghanistan,’ and everyone else in sight.
Even the most minor of officials are getting into the act: Peter Lavoy, acting assistant secretary of defense for Asia and Pacific security affairs, scraping the bottom of the barrel for a suitable object for his abject submission, apologized to Muslims in the Washington, D.C. area.
Some have rightly skewered Obama and his cohorts for their cowardice and eagerness to appease the Afghan mobs, especially as the death toll steadily mounts. No one, however, has noted the most remarkable aspect of this entire episode: the United States Government has, no questions asked, eagerly embraced Islamic law (Sharia) regarding the treatment of the Qur’an, and assured the Afghans that it will be enforced.
In his apology letter to Karzai, Obama said that the Qur’an-burning was ‘inadvertent,’ but that nevertheless ‘we will take the appropriate steps to avoid any recurrence, including holding accountable those responsible.’
If it was ‘inadvertent,’ why does Obama intend to hold them accountable? Accidents will happen. If he is going to adopt Sharia to the extent that he thinks that anyone should be held accountable for this at all, is he going to adopt Sharia punishments for this ‘crime’ as well? Will he have the U.S. soldiers whom he finds to be responsible for the Qur’an-burning beheaded?
If not, why not?
If burning the Qur’an is now a crime for Americans, and we are thus now subject to Islamic law, how much Sharia are we under? To what extent have we capitulated? Where does Obama draw the line, if anywhere?
Will there be Read more…
Obama: ‘Son of Islam’?
By Raymond Ibrahim – “Many in the media are indignant with Reverend Franklin Graham, head of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association. Invited on ‘Morning Joe’ last Tuesday to discuss Christian persecution, Graham was asked whether he thought President Barack Obama was Christian or not. Although Graham concluded that Obama ‘has said he is a Christian, so I just have to assume that he is,’ he appeared skeptical, suggesting Obama’s policies disagreed with Christian principles, thus earning the full ire of much of the fourth estate.
Graham, however, was absolutely right to say that, ‘under Islamic law, the Muslim world sees Barack Obama as a Muslim, as a son of Islam’: according to Sharia law [Islamic religious law, which regulates all parts of a Muslim’s life], if one’s father is Muslim, one automatically becomes Muslim. The reason behind last week’s church attack in Egypt, when thousands of Muslims tried to torch a church and kill its pastor, is that a Christian girl fled from her father after he converted to Islam: she did not want to be Muslim, and was rumored to be hiding in the church. This is not the first time in recent months that churches have been attacked on similar rumors.
In short, Sharia law’s position is that anyone born to a Muslim father is a Muslim—with the death penalty should they seek to apostatize: the 34-year-old Iranian pastor sentenced to death simply for converting to Christianity is just the most visible example.
Because of this automatic passage of religion from father to son, and because Obama attended a madrassa (Muslim religious school during his youth in Indonesia), many Muslims are convinced that Obama is a ‘secret’ Muslim. In a Forbes article, ‘My Muslim President Obama: Why members of the faith see him as one of the flock ,’ writer Asma Gull Hasan elaborates:
[S]ince Election Day, I have been part of more and more conversations with Muslims in which it was either offhandedly agreed that Obama is Muslim or enthusiastically blurted out. In commenting on our new president, ‘I have to support my fellow Muslim brother,’ would slip out of my mouth before I had a chance to think twice. ‘Well, I know he’s not really Muslim,’ I would quickly add. But if the person I was talking to was Muslim, they would say, ‘yes he is.’ …. Most of the Muslims I know (me included) can’t seem to accept that Obama is not Muslim. Of the few Muslims I polled who said that Obama is not Muslim, even they conceded that he had ties to Islam…. The rationalistic, Western side of me knows that Obama has denied being Muslim, that his father was non-practicing, that he doesn’t attend a mosque. Many Muslims simply say back, ‘my father’s not a strict Muslim either, and I haven’t been to a mosque in years.’ Obama even told The New York Times he could recite the adhan, the Islamic call to prayer, which the vast majority of Muslims, I would guess, do not know well enough to recite.
Read the entire article, which is more eye-opening than the author probably intended.
Another reason many Muslims believe Obama is a Muslim (and a reason Ms. Hasan’s article understandably omits) is that, under the Read more…
Turkey Bans Civilian Israeli Planes From Its Airspace
By Zohar Blumenkrantz, Haaretz – “Turkey has restricted the use of its airspace to Israeli cargo flights, marking another step in the deterioration of the bilateral relations between the two nations.
Turkey has begun banning Israeli flights carrying ‘dangerous materials’ from using its airspace, Haaretz learned on Sunday.
The ban effects El Al and CAL cargo flights carrying materials designated as ‘dangerous.’ This designation includes most of the cargo flights in and out of Israel, as it doesn’t include only explosives, but also any flight carrying batteries and even perfume, which are flammable and require special storage procedures.
From now on, Turkey is requiring that it be notified about flights of this type at least 10 days in advance, so that they may review whether or not to approve them.
The new move is causing substantial financial damage to Israeli airlines, as most Israeli flights, and all those flying to the Far East, regularly use Turkish airspace, and are now being forced to use longer flight routes that circumvent Turkey.
The two companies have contacted the Civil Aviation Administration of Israel, demanding Israel reciprocate with comparable restrictions on Turkish flights, which currently use Israeli airspace freely.” Read more.
Flashback: Turkey Installing New Military Tech That Will Allow Warplanes and Ships to Target Israel as the Enemy – “In yet another sign of the deterioration in Israel-Turkish ties, Turkey’s Star Gazete reported Tuesday that the military is installing new technology that will allow warplanes and ships to target Israeli vessels. Previously, Turkish planes, ships and submarines used American technology, which automatically classified Israeli equipment as ‘friendly.’ The new system, developed in Turkey, will allow the Turkish military to decide which targets to label as friendly. The switch was pioneered by Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s regime.” Read more.
Flashback: Turkey: Israel No Longer A ‘Friend’, ‘It’s Time For Israel To Pay The Price’, Israeli Ambassador and Diplomats Expelled – “Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu announced on Friday that following Jerusalem’s adamant refusal to apologize over the 2010 Gaza flotilla raid, Ankara will be downgrading its diplomatic relations with Israel and suspending key military agreements. In a dramatic turn of events, Turkey announced that it was expelling Israeli Ambassador Gabby Levy from Ankara. Davutoglu said Turkey’s diplomatic representation in Israel would be further reduced to second-secretary level. In accordance, all lower Israeli diplomatic personnel above the second-secretary level have also been expelled.” Read more.
Report: Internet Radicalizes US Muslims Quickly, Example of Recent Convert to Islam is ‘A Harbinger, Not an Outlier’
By Shaun Waterman, The Washington Times – “Young American Muslims can become radicalized online very quickly and with few warning signs, becoming potential terrorists before federal agencies can identify them, a new congressional report warned Monday.
Zachary Chester, a 22-year-old Virginia man now serving 25 years for terrorism crimes, took less than two years to transform ‘from an average American kid to a hardened supporter of terrorist organizations,’ according to a study of his case by staff from the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.
The bipartisan report analyzes his prolific online writing and correspondence with staff investigators after his guilty plea October 2010 to three terrorism-related felonies. The charges included attempting to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization through his efforts to join al-Shabab, the al Qaeda affiliate in Somalia.
‘Chester represents a growing breed of young Americans who have such comfort and facility with social media that they can self-radicalize to violent Islamist extremism in an accelerated time period, compared to more traditional routes to radicalization,’ the report said.
Chester, who converted to Islam after graduating high school in 2008, is ‘a harbinger, not an outlier,’ according to the report.” Read more.
Flashback: ‘What Are You Waiting For?’ – Al-Qaeda Calls on US Muslims to Buy Guns and Start Killing Americans – “If an event were to occur in the world that would be eschatologically pivotal for Muslims this would be sure to awaken any radical elements within the Muslim population, regardless of where they live, and even radicalize some of those who were previously considered ‘moderate’. The arrival of al Mahdi, for example, could become the ‘triggering event’ that has the potential to precipitate a sudden surge in Islamic terrorism all over the globe. If we are complacent into believing that any such scenario could never happen or is highly unlikely, we don’t need to look far before we come face to face with the sobering reality that Islamic terrorist cells are, today, already forming within our own borders.” Read more.
France: Muslim Father Douses 23-Year-Old Daughter with Gasoline, Tries to Set Her On Fire for Having a Jewish Boyfriend and Being ‘Too Emancipated’
By Matthew Warren – “A man was being held by police on Monday after allegedly trying to set fire to his grown-up daughter in central Paris.
Le Parisien newspaper reported that the man sprayed teargas in the young woman’s face and then covered her in petrol on Saturday evening.
The father was apparently annoyed that the woman planned to go out with a group of friends that evening and considered her ‘too emancipated’.
The newspaper quoted a source describing him as a ‘Muslim fundamentalist.’
The 23-year-old daughter has a room in a building in the city’s 11th arrondissement, close to the Place de la Bastille.
The 49-year-old man went there at around 11.30pm on Saturday evening and started arguing with her in the hall of the building.
He then attacked her with the teargas and poured petrol over her head and face, after which he pulled out a lighter, causing her to scream.
‘She managed to grab the lighter from his hands while passers-by heard her screams,’ said a source close to the inquiry. ‘The man quickly made a run for it.’
The woman told police her father had been harassing her for several weeks. ‘She explained he was unhappy that she had a Jewish boyfriend,’ said the source.
Police caught up with the man on Sunday and are questioning him in connection with attempted murder.” Read more.
‘There is no room for personal freedom in Islam’ – “Hazem Saleh Abu Ismail, Egypt’s presidential candidate and a vocal supporter of the Muslim Brotherhood, has said that there is no room for personal freedom in Islam. In a recent television interview translated and reported by Jihad Watch, Ismail said that being a Muslim is like being a member of the military, where one has to go by a dictatorial code of conduct. ‘If you claim that Allah considers it your personal freedom, show me your reference? Nobody has ever said that – except for people have no understanding of Sharia,’ Ismail said.” Read more.
Iran: Authorities Arresting Christians in Multiple Cities, Including Ailing 78-Year Old Woman in Esfahan
Mohabat News – “The security authorities of Iran have taken action against the growth of Christianity and house church movement in Iran and have arrested many believers in different cities of Iran. In this connection, a 78 year old Christian lady has also been arrested in Esfahan.
According to reporters of Iranian Christian news agency, Mohabat News, Ms. Giti Hakimpour, a Christian minister who resides in Esfahan was arrested in her flat by security authorities.
The security authorities raided Ms. Hakimpour’s home at 6:00 a.m. on February 22, 2012, at the same time as the attack on Mr. Hekmat Salimi’s home. They arrested and transferred her to an unknown location.
Ms. Hakimpour, who is 78 years old, is a member and minister of St. Luke’s church in Esfahan. She was living on her own in an apartment. Witnesses saw both police and private cars parking down below her flat from 6 in the morning.
Knowledgeable sources told Mohabat News, the intelligence officers initially interrogated her in her flat. Then they arrested her, thoroughly searched her apartment and confiscated some of her personal belongings.
Eyewitnesses said the officers were there for three hours until 9:00 a.m. and then took Ms. Hakimpour with them. No information is available concerning her whereabouts and health condition at the time of publishing this post. She has no relatives inside Iran. However, the news of her arrest has caused a wave of anxiety among her relatives living outside Iran. The Iranian Christian community calls on Iranian authorities to release her and take measures to exonerate her of any charges.
It has been reported that she had not been in a good health the night before her arrest and was using some medicines because of the knee replacement surgery she had undergone. Also the doctor had ordered that she should not be stressed and that she needs to be under special care. So, holding her in custody without basic facilities could cause her difficulties. The responsibility of life and any possible health problems for this elderly lady rest directly on Iranian authorities.” Read more.
Tennessee: Mysterious Horse and Cattle Deaths Baffle Detectives in Maury County
By Nick Beres – “MAURY COUNTY, Tenn. — Horses are dying and now cattle as well and detectives in Maury County have been at a loss to explain how or why it is happening.
First, seven seemingly healthy horses turned up dead last week at a Hampshire farm in Maury County. The state performed a necropsy and released the results.
‘They ruled that it’s undetermined. The cause of death cannot be determined at this time. It is a mystery. We don’t know what happened,’ said Detective Terry Chandler with the Maury County Sheriff’s Department.
Now Detective Chandler is investigating more deaths: Two dead cows at a farm across from the one where the seven horses were found. And he’s consulting with police looking into more mysterious horse deaths in Dickson and Giles county.
Chandler said there is no evidence anyone is intentionally harming the animals.
He said they have not ruled out the possibility the livestock died from eating contaminated hay or a poison plant. It’s possible the toxins were not detected by the state testing.” Source – NewsChannel5.com.
USA Today: Some Experts Warning of Economic Devastation Ahead by 2014
Seems like reps in Wyoming are the only ones right now concerned enough to prepare in advance of any eventuality. If Rabbi Jonathan Cahn is right, however, central banks around the world will likely kick the can down the road just a little bit more, until it can be kicked no farther in 2015. See video following the article below …

By Adam Shell – “NEW YORK – Behind the mainstream Wall Street happy talk about more stable financial markets and an improving economy are grim warnings of tough times ahead from a small cadre of doomsayers who warn that the worst of the financial crisis is still to come.
Harry Dent, author of the new book The Great Crash Ahead, says another stock market crash is coming due to a bad ending to the global debt bubble. He has pulled back on his earlier prediction of a crash in 2012, as central banks around the world have been flooding markets with money, giving stocks an artificial short-term boost. But a crash is coming in 2013 or 2014, he warns. ‘This will be a repeat of 2008-09, only bigger, when it finally hits,’ Dent told USA TODAY.
Gerald Celente, a trend forecaster at The Trends Research Institute, says Americans should brace themselves for an ‘economic 9/11′ due to policymakers’ inability to solve the world’s financial and economic woes. The coming meltdown, he predicts, will lead to growing social unrest and anti-government sentiment, a U.S. dollar with far less purchasing power and more people out of work.
Celente won’t rule out another financial panic that could spark enough fear to cause a run on the nation’s banks by depositors. That risk could cause the government to invoke ‘economic martial law’ and call a ‘bank holiday’ and close banks as they did during the Great Depression.
‘We see some kind of threat of that magnitude,’ Celente, publisher of The Trends Journal newsletter, warned in an interview.” Read more.

Israeli Intelligence Reports Warn of Increased Palestinian Violence, Third Intifada in 2012
By Barak Ravid – “The stalled peace process and instability in the Middle East are liable to push the Palestinians in the West Bank to turn increasingly violent toward Israel, the Foreign Ministry said in its annual intelligence assessment.
The assessment also states that a potential Israeli military operation in Gaza would generate a severe response from Egypt.
The ministry’s intelligence report, which was presented a few weeks ago to the ministers in the security cabinet, runs more than 50 pages. Parts of the report were obtained by Haaretz, including the sections relating to the Palestinians, ties with Jordan and Egypt and the Iranian nuclear issue.
The assessment puts forth a scenario of a third intifada breaking out during 2012, either as a result of a Palestinian Authority leadership decision or as a popular uprising influenced by the wave of revolutions in the Arab world.” Read more.
New Intifada Gains Upper Hand on IDF Restraint – “Violence by Arabs from Haifa to Be’er Sheva has grown into new full-blown Intifada, but so far the IDF is holding fire despite deaths in the recent past in the same circumstances . The increasing violence is forcing the IDF to heighten its presence on the highways, and terrorists, already used to de facto control, may escalate their attacks. Dozens of daily rock-throwing attacks on highways in Judea and Samaria were recorded the past week, causing massive damage to cars, light injuries and near death.” Read more.
Qassam Rockets Fall on Southern Israel – “A new day, a new week, and Gaza terrorists began their near-daily routine of firing short-range Qassam rockets at southern Israel on schedule as usual Sunday morning… The Color Red incoming rocket alert siren, which activates the moment a missile is sensed, gives people in the region about 15 seconds in which to drop whatever they’re doing and race for cover. It is impossible to know when the next one will be launched, nor where it will land and whether or not will explode. Because Qassams are relatively ‘primitive’ and cannot be narrowly aimed, they are especially deadly as the trajectory cannot be predicted – thus an entire region is placed on alert each time one is launched.” Read more.
For Religious Minorities in the Middle East – With Friends Like Obama, Who Needs Enemies?!
I’m really starting to like this guy …
By Rick Santorum – “President Obama has an amazing ability to make Jimmy Carter’s foreign policies look good.
Opposition to imperfect allies and support of radical Islamists has resulted in the almost-extinction of religious freedom for religious minorities – from the Copts in Egypt to the defenseless women and children who were slaughtered in Homs, Syria – in the Middle East.
Another example is the devolving situation in Iraq. President Obama was so committed to fulfilling an arbitrary campaign promise to get our troops out of Iraq that he ignored the advice of his senior military officials about the consequences of establishing a firm withdrawal date and about how long it might take before Iraq was ready to manage the situation on their own. As a result, Al-Qa’ida is resurgent, Iran’s influence is greater than ever, religious tensions between Sunni and Shi’a are increasing, the existential threat facing Iraq’s indigenous minority communities has never been greater, and our ability to affect the situation there is weaker now. Recent coordinated car bomb attacks are just the latest in a string of such events since the start of the new year, and they portend many more violent assaults to come.
The departure of our military forces has once again left a security vacuum that is bound to be filled by someone, and all those with the means to vie for that space will do so, whether Sunni insurgents, terrorists like Al Qa’ida, security forces controlled by the ruling Shi’a political establishment, and in parts of the country even Kurdish Peshmerga. These machinations undermine institutionalizing the rule of law, protecting minority rights, or developing the economy and infrastructure, let alone advancing American interests in that country and the region.
The most vulnerable people in this situation also happen to be the ones most aligned with our values and interests. These are Iraq’s besieged Christians – the Chaldeans, Assyrians, Syriacs and Armenian Orthodox communities. The role their faith has played in developing their worldview is far more in keeping with America’s values than any other constituency in the country or the region. Moreover, because these communities have an ethic that places a premium on education, entrepreneurship, and peaceful co-existence and respect for others, they have constituted a disproportionately large part of the upper-middle class, they have historically contributed far more to the country’s economy than their numbers would suggest, and they have been the most trusted elements of Iraqi society. They also have a much greater respect for the value of the rule of law, they were the ones who came along side our military, diplomats, and contractors to provide translation services and cultural advice.
With the departure of our forces and the recent announcement of the Obama Administration that we will also be reducing our embassy staff by 50 percent because it is now too dangerous for our diplomats there we are effectively abandoning both Read more…
