‘Grexit’: Bank Runs In Greece Are Only The Beginning, We Are Going To See Bank Runs All Over Europe

By Michael Snyder, ETF Daily News – “The bank runs that we are watching right now in Greece are shocking, but they are only just the beginning. Since May 6th, nearly one billion dollars has been withdrawn from Greek banks. For a small nation like Greece, that is an absolutely catastrophic number. At this point, the entire Greek banking system is in danger of collapsing. If you had money in a Greek bank, why wouldn’t you pull it out? If Greece leaves the euro, all euros in Greek banks will likely be converted to drachmas, and the value of those drachmas will almost certainly decline dramatically. In fact, it has been estimated that Greek citizens could see the value of their bank accounts decline by up to 50 percent if Greece leaves the euro. So if you had money in a Greek bank, it would only make sense to withdraw it and move it to another country as quickly as possible. And as the eurozone begins to unravel, this is a scenario that we are going to see play out in country after country. As member nations leave the eurozone, you would be a fool to have your euros in Italian banks or Spanish banks when you could have them in German banks instead. So the bank runs that are happening in Greece right now are only a preview of things to come. Before this crisis is over we are going to see bank runs happening all over Europe.

If Greece leaves the euro, the consequences are likely to be quite messy. Those that are promoting the idea that a ‘Grexit’ can be done in an orderly fashion are not being particularly honest. The following is from a recent article in the Independent….

“Whoever tells you a Greek exit would be no big deal is an idiot, lying or disingenuous,” said Sony Kapoor of the European think-tank Re-Define. Economists fear that a disorderly exit would prompt a huge run by investors on Spanish and Italian debt, forcing those countries to seek support from an EU bailout fund, which, with a capacity of just €500bn, is widely regarded as too small to cope with those pressures.

A Greek exit from the euro would not only result in a run on Spanish and Italian bonds, but it would also likely result in a run on Spanish and Italian banks.

If Greece is allowed to leave the euro, that will be a signal that other countries will eventually be allowed to leave as well. Nobody in their right mind would want their euros stuck in Spanish or Italian banks if those countries end up converting back to national currencies.

Fear is a powerful motivator. If Greece converts their euros back to drachmas, that will be a clear signal that all euros are not created equally. The race to move money into German banks will accelerate dramatically.

And a Greek exit from the euro is looking more likely with each passing day. Even the IMF is now admitting that it is a very real possibility….” Read more.

Muslim Brotherhood’s Dream: Create Islamic Caliphate And Give Allah’s Law The Power To Speak, ‘The Capital Of The Caliphate … Is Jerusalem’

By Chana Ya’ar, INN – “Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood is hoping that when the polls open in nine days, voters will bring in the era of the Islamic Caliphate.

‘We are seeing the dream of the Islamic Caliphate coming true at the hands of Mohammed Morsi,’ said cleric Safwat Higazy, speaking at a rally for the Brotherhood’s presidential candidate.

The TV preacher vowed from the podium before thousands at the stadium of an industrial city in the Nile Delta, ‘The capital of the Caliphate and the United Arab States is Jerusalem, Allah willing.’

In response, the crowd waved green Brotherhood flags, chanting, ‘The people want to implement Allah’s law.’

Morsi himself said at a rally at Cairo University this week, ‘We will not accept any alternative to Shari’ah… The Qu’ran is our constitution and it will always be so.’

But Morsi is running so far only in fourth place, in a field of 13 candidates whose first challenge will come during the May 23-24 polls. Ahead of him in popularity thus far are two former regime candidates and Abdel-Moneim Abolfotoh, a more moderate Islamist.

Abolfotoh, who was once a member of the Brotherhood, left the organization after he was blocked from running for president. He has said that a Christian has the right to be president, and that books promoting atheism should not be censored, is also supported by the more hard-line Salafists.

The harder-line Muslim Brotherhood leadership, rejected by its Salafist Islamic colleagues, has become much bolder since gaining control over the parliament.

The party demanded as the majority in parliament that the military allow it to form the next government.

The Brotherhood faction also balked at a World Bank loan taken by the parliament to improve the country’s broken sewage system, citing the interest involved, forbidden under Shari’a law.

The party has also called on the government to revoke a Mubarak-era law to allow women to seek a divorce from their husbands in Islamic courts.” Source – Israel National News.

The Daily Caller reported:

Klein also said Wright told him he “made it comfortable” for Obama to accept Christianity without having renounce his “Islamic background,” which Klein said he has on tape.

Klein says Obama originally sought out Wright to discuss community activism.

“Quickly the conversations turned from picking up garbage on the street and getting streetlights put up on street corners to political matters and religious matters,” Klein says. “And the Rev. Wright turned into really a substitute father figure, who guided Obama in the two major areas of his life.”

The first area was Obama’s identity — just who was he?

“Obama was steeped in Islam but knew nothing about Christianity,” Klein says.

Klein asked Wright if he converted Obama from being a Muslim into a Christian.

“He said, I don’t know about that. but I can tell you that I made it easy for him to come to an understanding of who Jesus Christ is and not feel that he was turning his back on his Islamic friends and his Islamic traditions and his understanding of Islam,” Klein says.

The second area was Obama’s political philosophy. Wright introduced Obama to Black Liberation theology.

By Caroline May – “The Department of Justice is being encouraged to follow in the footsteps of the FBI in cutting off all non-investigative ties to the country’s largest Muslim advocacy organization, the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR).

The Fiscal Year 2013 Commerce, Justice, Science Appropriations Bill, which passed the House on Wednesday, contains in its Committee Report (a separate public document that spells out how agencies are expected to spend the money allocated to them) a recommendation that Attorney General Eric Holder follow in the FBI’s footsteps and sever ties with CAIR:

Liaison partnerships.—The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) was listed as an unindicted co-conspirator in a case in which the Holy Land Foundation was found guilty of material support of a terrorist organization. The committee acknowledges the attorney general’s refusal to attend certain meetings knowing that CAIR officials would be present, as indicated in testimony before the committee on February 28, 2012. The committee understands that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has an existing policy prohibiting its employees from engaging in any formal non-investigative cooperation with CAIR. The committee encourages the attorney general to adopt a similar policy for all department officials.

In January 2009, the FBI ended its relationship with CAIR and its affiliates across the country due to the conviction of those involved in the Holy Land Foundation terrorist funding trial, in which CAIR was listed as an unindicted co-conspirator.

Virginia Republican Rep. Frank Wolf, the bill’s sponsor, explained to The Daily Caller that with the FBI’s policy already in place it makes sense for DOJ to follow suit.

‘The FBI has that policy now, and I think it’s a good policy — they were an unindicted co-conspirator in the Holy Land Foundation case. We also commend the attorney general for not meeting with them,” Wolf said. “We think it ought to be a policy. If the FBI has that policy, I think the entire Justice Department should have it.’

The DOJ declined to comment about the recommendation, though Wolf explained that they will likely apply the policy.

‘I expect they will comply [with the recommendation],’ Wolf said. ‘I’d be surprised if they didn’t comply.'” I wouldn’t be. Read more.

Thousands Amass In Jordan For Major Military Exercise

By Barbara Starr, CNN – “It couldn’t come at a more delicate time in the Middle East. No one will say it publicly, but the Eager Lion 2012 exercise – and the 12,000 multinational forces gathering in Jordan – are sending a not-so-quiet message to others in the region: they are ready for whatever comes.

From now until the end of May, one of the largest multinational military exercises the region has seen is taking place in Jordan. There are more than 19 nations, including the United States and a number of Arab and European allies, gathering to practice their combat skills, just in case.

Several U.S. military officials say while it’s not the primary intention, the exercise is meant to be noticed by Syria and Iran especially. The message: even with the United States out of Iraq, and winding up the war in Afghanistan, there is a formidable U.S. presence in the region, and other countries are capable of filling in the gaps.

The U.S. Navy already is keeping two aircraft carriers in the next-door Persian Gulf region, and stepping up the presence of minesweepers in those waters. The Air Force has sent half a dozen F-22 fighters to the United Arab Emirates. The Joint Special Operations Command has conducted several deadly drone strikes against al Qaeda in Yemen.

But Eager Lion is taking it one step further. Marines will train in southern Jordan on their amphibious landing and warfare skills. But there will also be a number of the most elite U.S. Special Operations troops, training with Jordanian special forces units in counterterrorism and other assault operations.

The exercise is part of the overall U.S. military strategy to support Jordan as that country grows increasingly concerned about the unrest across its northern border with Syria. Jordanian officials are especially concerned about the potential for Syria to forces tens of thousands of its Palestinian refugees into Jordan, as well as Syrians escaping the fighting.

There is concern in a worst case scenario that the Syrian regime could lose control of some of its chemical or biological weapons stocks and they could somehow illicitly come into Jordan.

So a major portion of the exercise will also be devoted to training together on dealing with refugee flows and managing a chemical or biological weapons crisis.

But publicly, Jordanian officials say the exercise is not about their neighbor to the north.

‘This has nothing to do with Syria. We respect the sovereignty of Syria. There is no tension between the Syrians and us. Our objectives are clear.’ Major General. Awni el-Edwan, Chief of staff of the Jordanian Operations and Training Armed Forces. ‘No forces will be deployed north of the 32nd parallel. The exercise is not connected to any real world event.’

Officials quietly acknowledge all U.S. military training in the region now could be useful in the event of action against Iran.” Read more.

China: Roads Blocked, Houses Collapse, Farmland Destroyed As Violent Hailstorm Kills 40 In Northwest China

ANN – “A brief but violent hailstorm in China’s north-west has killed 40 people.

The local government says in just one hour, the torrential downpour killed residents and left dozens more injured or missing.

Tens of thousands of people have been forced to flee from their homes after rain and hail battered Min county on Thursday.

Authorities have dispatched large numbers of tents and beds to the stricken area, but they have conceded many people still need relief supplies.

Xinhua news agency reported the storm ‘wreaked havoc’ on all of the county’s 18 townships and affected more than two-thirds of its 450,000 residents

“Roads were blocked, houses collapsed, farmland was destroyed, and the power supply and telecommunications services were disrupted by the extreme weather,” the agency said, quoting Xu Guangyao, a senior county official.

Bridge collapse

A bridge in Hunan province has also collapsed after days of torrential rain across the country.

It is not known how many people were on the bridge when it buckled and fell into the river.

Fire department official Su Tao told Xinhua that witnesses say they saw people falling into the water when the bridge collapsed.

He says firefighters have not rescued anyone yet but some people have managed to climb ashore.

Hailstorms in the central province of Hunan have killed six people and left one missing, according to statistics released by the Ministry of Civil Affairs.

Since May 8, hailstorms have struck across the province, affecting 3.42 million people, the ministry said.

About 64,000 people have been relocated to safer areas and 7,600 houses have collapsed.” Source – Australia Network News.

General Stubblebine details in his riveting video the amounts of radioactive materials that will be propelled across the Pacific and across the United States if the Fukushima reactor structures (especially Spent Fuel Pool Number 4) collapse. With over 15,000 ‘spent fuel rods’ on the site, the Fukushima reactors have accumulated one of the largest stockpiles of these dangerous, intensely radioactive materials on the planet. No remediation work is being done at the site; there is no official remedial planning or disaster preparation. No private remediation, or public discussion of the need for it, is permitted by the Government of Japan under its new suppression of nuclear discussion laws.

The Natural Solutions Foundation joins seventy Japanese NGOs(1) in calling upon the Secretary General of the United Nations and Prime Minister of Japan last month to coordinate emergency action to shore-up critical structures now at imminent risk of collapse. It has been variously estimated(2), that a relatively mild earthquake (i.e., 5.0 or greater on the Richter Scale) will collapse the previously damaged Spent Fuel Rod holding tank of Unit No. 4, containing 85 times the amount of radioactive Cesium137 contained in Chernobyl’s now-entombed reactor. An estimated 1Million Europeans are believed to have died as a direct result of that radiation emission following the nuclear explosion of Chernobyl.

The US Government’s statistics document an excess death rate of 20,000 US residents, mostly healthy infants, in the first 9 months following the multiple nuclear events at Fukushima.” Read more.

Greece Faces Big Debt Payment Tuesday, European Leaders And Financial Markets Braced For Greece Exit From Euro

“Financial markets are hastily making preparations for a Greek exit from the euro after a day of political and economic turmoil ended with Europe’s policy elite admitting for the first time that it may prove impossible to keep the single currency intact.

With attempts in Athens to form a government after last week’s election looking increasingly doomed, European leaders abandoned their taboo on talking about the possibility that Greece might have to leave the euro.

Shares, oil, and the euro were all sold heavily on Monday in anticipation that anti-austerity parties would garner support in a second Greek election likely to be held next month, bringing the row between Greece and its European creditors to a climax.

Critical talks are scheduled to continue in Athens between all party leaders, although President Karolos Papoulias’s decision to prolong the negotiations came despite widespread signs the talks were heading towards collapse. He has until Thursday, when the Greek parliament reconvenes, to broker a deal.

The British chancellor, George Osborne warned that the prospect of Greece crashing out of the euro was damaging economies across Europe.

Uncertainty over the future of struggling eurozone nations was having a ‘real impact’ on growth, he said…

Markets are braced for figures due out on Tuesday to show that the eurozone is officially in a double dip recession, and fear that the events of the past few days will intensify the slump.” Read more.

Greece Faces Big Debt Payment Tuesday: Now What? – “As if the Greek situation wasn’t messy enough, a missing paragraph from a key legal document is throwing a wrench into a debt deadline. Greece has a 436 million euro principal repayment due Tuesday. So far, the country has not decided what to do. Under normal Greek-debt contracts, if Greece doesn’t pay, it would have only a seven-day grace period. But experts who have pored over all of this have found that one of the key paragraphs from the normally boiler-point language is missing. As a result, Greece will have a 30-day grace period, leading to the possibility of an extended, ‘Will they?’ or ‘won’t they?’ drama.” Read more.

Egypt: Increasing Number Of Egyptians Want To Ditch Peace Treaty With Israel, Model Its Government After Saudi Arabia

Sadly, this thirst may be one of the reasons why the Muslim Brotherhood’s own “[Say Good-Bye To] Freedom and [Anything But] Justice Party” continues to receive the highest support rating from the Egyptian people …

By Patrick Goodenough, CNS News – “(CNSNews.com) – As Egyptians prepare to vote for their first post-Mubarak president next week, the antipathy towards Israel espoused by the frontrunners aligns with the findings of a new survey, in which 61 percent of Egyptian respondents favor abandoning the Egypt-Israel peace treaty, up from 54 percent a year ago.

The poll, by the Pew Global Attitudes Project, also finds a small decline among Egyptians in favorable views of the United States – now just 19 percent – while 61 percent of respondents said the billions of dollars the U.S. gives their country in military and economic aid has a ‘mostly negative’ impact.

Asked their views on Egyptian-U.S. ties, 38 percent indicated the relationship should be more distant, 35 percent said it should remain as it is now, and 20 percent said it should be closer.

Among other findings:

–On the role of religion in government, 61 percent chose Saudi Arabia as the preferred model. (Turkey came in at 17 percent).

–Asked whether Egypt’s laws should strictly adhere to the Qur’an, 60 percent said yes while 32 percent said it should follow the values and principles of Islam and only six percent said laws should not be influenced by the teachings of the Qur’an.

— Seventy percent of respondents viewed the Muslim Brotherhood favorably, down from 75 percent in 2011. The Muslim Brotherhood’s political wing, the Freedom and Justice Party, also received the highest support rating among political parties, 56 percent.” Read more.

Syria: Remaining Christians Fear Possible Islamist Rule, Would Be ‘Expelled From The Country In One Day’ If Assad Falls

“Christians living in conflict-torn Syria are afraid that their community would fall victim of religious extremism if President Bashar al-Assad regime collapses and Islamists come to power.

‘I am afraid that we will suffer bad times,’ a member of Damascus’s Christian community, who identified himself as Jorge, told RIA Novosti.

A full-fledged civil war will break out in Syria if Assad’s enemies and their western supporters continue efforts to topple the president, he continued.

‘If the regime falls…, Islamists will come to power,’ Jorge said, adding that Islamists ‘wrongly believe that we support the current regime,’ and for that reason they will complicate the life of Christians.

‘Sunni Muslims who predominate Syria think that if President Assad’s regime representing the interests of the Alawi minority falls, they will live better. But I personally think that they are wrong. Syria is a secular state and its people, including Muslims, will not like it if the new power starts thrusting orthodox Islamic norms of moral and behavior on them,’ he added.

According to Jorge’s opinion, extremist forces rather than liberals would come to power in Syria.

Another Syrian, an engineer from Homs, said on conditions of anonymity that he is sure that if Assad’s regime falls, Christians will be ‘expelled from the country in one day.'” Read more.

Syria: Jihadists Seize Christian Village, Expel Its Residents – “Armed jihadist seized control of Qastal al-Burg village on Thursday, May 10, and ordered its 10 Christian families to leave, according to a report published by UPI on its Arabic language website. A resident of the village, who did not wish to be identified, said ‘armed jihadist (expiatory) group came to the village and ordered us to leave our homes empty handed.’ The armed group, he further stated, ‘have exercised their control over all the houses, and occupied the church and made it as their command control center.’ Qastal al-Burg village is in the province of Hama and is 48 kilometers northwest of Hama.” Source – AINA.

New Proof Of Iran Nuclear Arms Program No Surprise To Israel, Casts More Doubt On Iran’s Nuclear Denials

By Ryan Jones, Israel Today Magazine – “The Associated Press at the weekend published a graphical rendering of what appears to be a pressure chamber used to test nuclear weapons. It reported that the drawing was provided by a high-ranking official from a country tracking Iran’s nuclear program, and that the image allegedly depicts facilities located inside the Parchin military base near Tehran.

A former deputy director general at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) told the AP that the drawing closely resembles a photograph he recently saw of a pressure chamber at Parchin.

Iran refused to comment on the drawing, and continued to insist that it is not developing nuclear weapons. And while the new evidence strongly suggests otherwise, Defense Minister Ehud Barak said the pressure chamber diagram is nothing new.

‘This diagram is part of the information known to all leading intelligence agencies in the free world for some time,’ Barak told Israel Radio. The Israeli did indicate that he hopes the publication of the diagram will get more countries on board with serious efforts to halt Iran’s nuclear program.

Late last week, Iranian opposition group Mujahadeen Khalq warned in a report published by Germany’s Die Welt that while Iran teases the West with hopes of a diplomatic solution, the Islamic Republic is rushing full steam ahead to develop an atomic bomb.” Read more.

Flashback: Iran: Spiritual Leaders Declare Use Of Nuclear Weapons As Lawful Under Sharia – “‘The spiritual leaders of the ultra-conservatives [in Iran] have accepted the use of nuclear weapons as lawful in the eyes of shari’a. Mohsen Gharavian, a disciple of [Ayatollah] Mesbah Yazdi [who is Iranian President Ahmadinejad’s spiritual mentor], has spoken for the first time of using nuclear weapons as a counter-measure. Iran: 60 Scientists And Engineers Actively Working To Develop Nuclear Weapons, Claims America Has Abandoned Israel

By Nicholas Vinocur and Fredrik Dahl – “(Reuters) – An exiled Iranian opposition group said on Saturday that Iran has some 60 scientists and engineers involved in a concerted and expanding programme to develop nuclear weapons under defence ministry auspices.

However, diplomats say the National Council of Resistance of Iran has had a spotty record with allegations about Iran’s nuclear work since exposing a secret uranium enrichment plant at Natanz in 2002. A top U.S. nuclear expert said the NCRI report, like previous ones, should be treated with great scepticism.

Its latest report, whose details could not be verified, appeared timed to encourage a tougher line at talks with Iran the U.N. nuclear watchdog will have in Vienna on Monday and Tuesday and six world powers will hold in Baghdad on May 23.

But it clashed with the assessment of U.S. and Israeli intelligence officials that Iran has not decided whether to ‘weaponise’ its enrichment programme. Tehran says it is refining uranium solely for peaceful energy.

In the six-page report shown to Reuters, the Paris-based NCRI cited sources in Iran’s government and military as saying some 60 scientists were pursuing bomb-relevant research in 11 agencies operating clandestinely under defence ministry control.

‘Information … shows that the clerical regime has expanded the organisation responsible for nuclear weapons development,’ the report said. ‘This finding reveals a complete and elaborate, and highly … secret research structure and a network for procurement of the required parts and equipment.'” Read more.

Iran boasts U.S. has abandoned Israel – “Iranian outlets have been claiming recently the United States has been forced to bow before Iran on its nuclear program, demonstrating the West’s abandonment of Israel and paving the way for the Islamic regime to annihilate the Jewish state. While restating that Iran will demand ever more in the upcoming second round of talks with the 5+1 nations to be held this month in Baghdad, the Iranian media are now boasting that Israel has been abandoned by its allies and is in a dire bind.” Read more.
