Hawaii: Avian Botulism Outbreak Kills At Least 67 Birds In Kahului
RSOE EDIS – “Wetland biologists and others involved in managing lands with associated wetlands have been notified by the Department of Land and Natural Resources’ Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) of a recent avian botulism outbreak affecting waterbirds on Maui. In just over a week, 67 birds have been found dead at Kanaha Pond Wildlife Sanctuary in Kahului including Hawaiian Stilt, Hawaiian Coot, and Hawaiian Ducks of adult and juvenile stages. The paralytic disease has killed adult birds on their nests, also causing the eggs to be lost. Because botulinum toxin can be produced in most wetlands, and transported to new wetlands by dead or dying waterfowl, landowners and managers, both public and private, are being asked to frequently survey their wetlands for sick and/or dead birds, remove any dead or dying birds from the wetland, and contact local DOFAW biologists for guidance. Earlier this year a botulism outbreak in Hanalei, Kauai resulted in over 300 sick and dead birds being collected by USFWS refuge staff. Additionally, numerous other botulism fatalities have also been reported at wetlands throughout the state. Botulism is a paralytic condition brought on by the consumption of a naturally occurring toxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. It is an intoxication rather than an infectious disease. Botulism, type C is commonly found in Hawaiian soils and is NOT dangerous to humans.
Particular environmental conditions in wetlands will sometimes allow this bacterium to produce botulinum toxin; the toxin is then accumulated in aquatic invertebrates. It is consumption of these toxic invertebrates by waterfowl that leads to mortality.” Read more.
Australia: Mystery Turtle Deaths Stump Scientists In North Queensland
The Telegraph – “THE mysterious death of 22 green turtles, a protected species, is puzzling experts in North Queensland.
The experts have not ruled out poisoning and even drowning as a cause.
The Department of Environment and Heritage Protection is investigating the deaths of the turtles found at Wunjunga Beach, about 100 kilometres south of Townsville.
The department’s director of threatened species, Wolf Sievers, said the vulnerable animals have been washing up on the beach for over a week.
‘It is very unusual for this many turtles to have stranded on one beach and we will be making every effort to establish what may have happened,’ Mr Sievers said.
Senior turtle expert Dr Ian Bell said that initial investigations found no injuries, no obvious signs of malnutrition or illness.
‘It’s a bit like turtle CSI, it’s all about ruling out possible alternatives,’ Dr Bell said.
‘We’re ruling out starvation. It doesn’t look like it’s any infectious type of disease, and it leaves us with two possibilities.
‘One is potential poisoning, and we’re also looking at the possibility of a drowning.
‘At this stage we really don’t know.'” Read more.
India: Authorities Order Investigation After Thousands Of Fish Die In Gomti River
“Authorities in Uttar Pradesh Monday ordered a probe into the death of thousands of fishes which have died in the river Gomti here.
The possible reasons that could have led to such largescale deaths, Jal Nigam officials said, would be looked into.
The deaths came to light when morning walkers and other residents who take bath in the river banks at Tuliyaghat saw thousands of fishes floating in the water.
No sooner did the news spread that fishermen jumped into the river with nets to gather them.
‘If true, this matter is serious and a thorough probe would be ordered into the death of the fishes,’ said Rajendra Kumar, chief engineer of the Jal Nigam unit.
Greens say that in the past few days the water level of the river had gone down considerably, leading to oxygen scarcity.
In the past weeks, there have been talks of water being released into the river by the Sharda canal but the depleting water level of the Gomti speaks otherwise.
Officials say that from time to time they check the oxygen levels in the river and it invariably comes around 5-6 miligram per litre, which is considered safe.
Fishes, they say, die after the oxygen level slips below the 3 mg per litre.
There is an immediate need for dredging in many parts of the river, official sources told IANS, but added that the Jal Nigam was ignoring this for a long time.” Source – daijiworld.com.

AFP – “TEHRAN: Egypt’s Islamist president-elect, Mohamed Morsi, wants to ‘reconsider’ the peace deal with Israel and build ties with Iran to ‘create a strategic balance’ in the Middle East, according to an interview published by Iran’s Fars news agency on Monday.
The stated goals are certain to alarm Israel and its ally the United States as they adapt to the new direction Egypt will chart with Morsi at the helm.
They could also boost Iran’s influence in the Middle East at a time of heightened tensions between Tehran and the West.
‘We will reconsider the Camp David Accord’ that, in 1979, forged a peace deal between Egypt and Israel that has held for more than three decades, Morsi was quoted as telling a Fars reporter in Cairo on Sunday, just before his election triumph was announced.
He said the issue of Palestinian refugees returning to homes their families abandoned in the 1948 Arab-Israeli war and the 1967 Six-Day War ‘is very important’.
Morsi added though that ‘all these issues will be carried out through cabinet and governmental bodies because I will not take any decision on my own.’
Morsi also said he was ready to improve ties with Iran. The Islamic republic broke off diplomatic relations with Egypt in 1980, a year after Cairo signed the peace deal with the Jewish state.
‘Part of my agenda is the development of ties between Iran and Egypt that will create a strategic balance in the region,’ Morsi was quoted as saying.
Although Morsi resigned from Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood to take the top job, Israel is wary of his election, fearing his Islamist record could jeopardise the chilly peace it has long enjoyed with its huge neighbour.
Iran’s foreign ministry on Sunday welcomed Morsi’s triumph.” Read more.

AFP – “Palestinians in Gaza celebrated on Sunday, as Muslim Brotherhood candidate Mohamed Morsi was named winner of Egypt’s presidential election, with Hamas hailing a ‘historic moment.’
And the Palestinian Authority in charge of the West Bank issued its own congratulations to Morsi, who is set to become Egypt’s first post-uprising president.
Senior Hamas official Mahmud Zahar told AFP that the victory was ‘a historic moment and a new era in the history of Egypt,’ as Gazans cheered and fired volleys of celebratory gunfire in the streets of the Palestinian territory.
The Hamas Islamist movement that rules the Gaza Strip has long-standing ties with the Muslim Brotherhood, and grew from the Egyptian organisation that saw its candidate win 51.73 percent of the vote to defeat ex-prime minister Ahmed Shafiq.
Zahar called Morsi’s victory ‘a defeat for the programme of normalisation and security cooperation with the enemy,’ referring to Israel.” Read more.

Texas: Mysterious Mass Death Of Cattle Prompts Federal Investigation
“(CBS News) ELGIN, Texas – A mysterious mass death of a herd of cattle has prompted a federal investigation in Central Texas.
Preliminary test results are blaming the deaths on the grass the cows were eating when they got sick, reports CBS Station KEYE.
The cows dropped dead several weeks ago on an 80-acre ranch owned by Jerry Abel in Elgin, just east of Austin.
Abel says he’s been using the fields for cattle grazing and hay for 15 years. ‘A lot of leaf, it’s good grass, tested high for protein – it should have been perfect,’ he told KEYE correspondent Lisa Leigh Kelly.
The grass is a genetically-modified form of Bermuda known as Tifton 85 which has been growing here for 15 years, feeding Abel’s 18 head of Corriente cattle. Corriente are used for team roping because of their small size and horns.
‘When we opened that gate to that fresh grass, they were all very anxious to get to that,’ said Abel.
Three weeks ago, the cattle had just been turned out to enjoy the fresh grass, when something went terribly wrong.
‘When our trainer first heard the bellowing, he thought our pregnant heifer may be having a calf or something,’ said Abel. ‘But when he got down here, virtually all of the steers and heifers were on the ground. Some were already dead, and the others were already in convulsions.’
Within hours, 15 of the 18 cattle were dead.” Read more.
Pakistan: Taliban Captures, Beheads Seven Pakistani Security Personnel
The Express Tribune (Pakistan) – “The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has announced to an already-stricken population of Pakistan that it beheaded the seven Pakistani security personnel that it had kidnapped on June 21 in Laddah, South Waziristan. Its spokesman has proclaimed that ‘the heads of the slain soldiers would soon be produced before the media’. He also denied the army claim that it had killed 10 terrorists; he said only two had actually died. The TTP also enriched itself with the weapons captured from the army personnel.
The tragedy of South Waziristan goes on. This was the place where we made our first mistakes. We are now more focused on the villainies of the US and the Nato, whom we are denying passage into Afghanistan, and are busy ‘reinterpreting’ the Taliban as paid killers of the US, while sheltering some of them as they cross the Durand Line and kill Americans getting ready to depart the region after being defeated. If this is a victory, it is killing us. We are appeasing our tormentors by making ‘adjustments’ at all levels — judicial, political, economic and military.
In March 2004, militants ambushed an army convoy near the village of Sarwakai, close to Wana in South Waziristan. A dozen soldiers were found at the site and the decapitated bodies of a number of others who had been taken prisoner by the assailants were found near the area days later. The army went in to take the killers to task. Zahid Hussain, in his book, The Scorpion’s Tail, writes:
‘The clerics of the powerful Lal Masjid mosque in Islamabad issued a fatwa declaring the resistance in Waziristan a jihad and called on the people to not give Islamic burials to the soldiers killed while fighting the tribesmen. In obedience to the clerics, many parents of the soldiers refused to receive the bodies of their sons. Public opinion in the region turned more hostile toward the military. The operation also angered some individuals within the officer corps and several Pashtun officers were court-martialled for refusing to fight’.” Read more.

By John Scheerhout, Manchester Evening News – “A victim of the child sex grooming scandal that shocked the country has spoken of her relief after its ‘vile’ mastermind was finally unmasked.
Shabir Ahmed, 59, can today be named as the leader of the group of Asian men who raped, abused and exploited vulnerable teenage girls in Rochdale.
He was jailed last month for 19 years alongside nine other members of the gang.
But his identity has remained a secret for legal reasons – until now.
Ahmed can finally be named after being convicted of 30 counts of rape against a young girl in a separate case.
Police said the victim had been ‘systematically’ raped during a ‘horrific’ campaign of abuse that lasted many years.
Ahmed, of Windsor Road, Oldham, had denied the allegations but was found guilty at Manchester Crown Court.
He claimed the girl had made up or imagined her ordeal – and smirked as the jury rejected his lies.
One of Ahmed’s victims in the original grooming case said his public naming-and-shaming had finally brought her some closure.
The girl – who was herself raped by Ahmed after he plied her with vodka above the Tasty Bites takeaway in Heywood – said: ‘I’m just glad people can know who he is and what he’s done. He’s just such an evil man. I know what he’s done to me – it’s obvious now from this second trial that he’s been doing this for years and ruined a lot of lives.
‘If anybody deserves to spend the rest of their lives in prison, it’s him. I’m just relieved it’s all over – it’s some kind of justice.’
Her father, who watched from the public gallery as Ahmed was convicted in the latest case, said: ‘He is horrible, evil – the vilest, most perverted individual.'” Read more.

Egypt Election Result: Muslim Brotherhood’s Mohammed Morsi Wins
Mohammed Morsi has been declared the official winner of Egypt’s presidential election. It was a lose-lose situation overall, however, for the future of Egypt, particularly the Christian community. If Ahmed Shafiq would have been declared the winner, there would have been trouble in the streets today. Although presidential powers have been neutered recently by the ruling military council, an Islamist win is bad news for the future of Egypt and its people. Trouble may not come today, but tomorrow is another story …
The Presidential Election Commission announced that Mohammed Morsi, head of the Brotherhood’s political front, the Freedom and Justice Party, won a narrow but clear victory. There is no appeal.
The declaration by the commission’s chairman, Farouq Sultan, a judge close to ex-President Mr Mubarak, relieves immediate concern at the possibility of widespread unrest by Islamists and secular revolutionaries, who had feared the win would be given to Mr Morsi’s opponent, Ahmed Shafiq,a retired general and Mr Mubarak’s last prime minister.
The Brotherhood’s own count of published polling station figures had given Mr Morsi a 52-48 per cent win, a judgement agreed by most independent newspapers and observers. Final election figures from the commission reflected a similar score. Dr Shafiq won more than 12 million votes and Dr Morsi more than 13 million. Turnout was 51 per cent.
In advance of the declaration, troops and police flooded the streets of the capital to protect public buildings in case of disorder. The army had threatened a ‘firm response’ to any sign of trouble.
The result is a remarkable achievement for the Islamists, who emerged from decades of persecution to seize a seemingly unassailable position in Egypt’s politics after the overthrow of Mr Mubarak. A month ago, they were in control of the first freely elected parliament, were set to dominate the comittee drawing up a new constitution, and their candidate had led the first round of voting in the presidential elections.
Following recent decrees, the military interim rulers, the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF), dissolved parliament following a separate ruling by Mr Sultan in his other role as head of the constitutional court, reserved its powers to itself, and gave itself a veto over any new constitution.” Read more.
The Truth About Gog And Magog

But it is also one of the most controversial and widely misunderstood prophecies. Throughout the Church today, a vast number of Christians believe that Ezekiel 38 and 39 predicts a Russian-led invasion of Israel in the last days. Ever since the release of the Scofield Reference Bible, this view has been echoed in dozens upon dozens of prophecy books, in thousands of end-time sermons, and today in countless online end-time discussion forums and articles. I cannot understate how well-established and influential the Russian-Gog view is. Consider for example, the comments made by then-Gov. Ronald Reagan in 1971, to a room full of state legislators:
‘Ezekiel tells us that Gog, the nation that will lead all of the other powers against Israel, will come out of the north. Biblical scholars have been saying for generations that Gog must be Russia. What other powerful nation is to the north of Israel? None.’
But how do so many many Christians arrive at this idea? What is the primary basis for such a belief? This view is rooted in the fact that ‘Gog,’ the leader of the Ezekiel’s prophesied invasion, is from the land of ‘Magog,’ which is most-often claimed as a reference to Russia.
If one Googles the terms ‘Gog and Magog’ and ‘map,’ numerous maps created by various prophecy ministries or teachers will pop up. I’ve included several below. Take note of where Magog is always located…” Read more.

Report Suggests Ahmed Shafiq To Be Declared Egypt’s President
If true, this will be yet another seismic event, and one that will this time be the catalyst to ferment the chaos of Cairo. If the seeds of yet another revolution begin to sprout it’ll be interesting to see how Egypt’s military responds, not to mention what America’s pro-Islamist Obama Administration and Islamic states such as Turkey and Iran have to say …

By Elad Benari, INN – “Egypt’s electoral body is set to announce Ahmed Shafiq as the country’s new president on Sunday, local government sources claimed on Friday.
According to a report on the website of the Egyptian newspaper Al-Ahram, Western diplomats in Cairo also said they have heard similar predictions from Cabinet members over the last three days.
A source in the current government told the newspaper that Shafiq will be declared the winner with 50.7 percent of the vote.
Sources at the Presidential Electoral Commission would not confirm to the claims of a Shafiq win.
Shafiq, who was deposed President Hosni Mubarak’s last prime minister, repeated on Thursday his claim of victory in weekend runoff elections.
He accused the Muslim Brotherhood, whose candidate ran against him, of ‘playing games’ to put pressure on election authorities before announcement of the official results. He also accused the group of striking ‘backdoor deals’ with outside powers to sway the results and urged world capitals not to interfere.
The Brotherhood also declared soon after the election that its candidate, Mohammed Morsi, had won.” Read more.

In a televised statement issued as tens of thousands of Brotherhood protesters poured into Tahrir Square in central Cairo, SCAF warned that the military and police would respond ‘firmly’ to attempts to ‘harm public and private interests’.
