The Anti-Semitic Bizarro World Of Turkey’s Prime Minister Erdogan
By Joel Richardson – “In early October, when a single mortar shell launched from Syria missed its target and reached Turkey’s borders, Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan, was enraged.
In referring to the mere possibility of an attack launched from within Syria, Erdogan declared, ‘If there is a terror operation, if an irritant, emerges, then intervention would be our most natural right.’
And just this last month, when terrorists from the Kurdish Workers Party (PKK) launched a series of attacks against Turkish targets, Prime Minister Erdogan swiftly utilized his ‘right’ to respond. When he was done, in the space of just over a couple weeks, 500 Kurds had been killed.
Why, then, is Erdogan not willing to cede similar rights to Israel after she is relentlessly attacked by Hamas?
Consider the depth of hypocrisy here. As of Monday morning, by the time Israel finally responded to the recent rounds of Hamas’ attacks, they had already sustained over 850 jihadi rocket attacks launched into Israel. While the Israeli Iron Dome anti-missile batteries were able to effectively shoot down over 300 rockets heading straight for Israeli neighborhoods, a few dozen were able to penetrate the Iron Dome, landing in civilian areas.
Last week, when one of these missiles penetrated the roof of a family home in Kiryat Malachi (a sister city to Los Angeles) three Israelis were killed.
Surely Israel would now possess the same ‘right’ to respond that Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan has so forcefully claimed and used himself to defend his own country. One would think. But what is clear is that in Erdogan, we are not dealing with a rational player.
Consider just a few of Erdogan’s rabidly delusional anti-Semitic comments made over just the past few days.

“(Reuters) – Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan described Israel on Monday as a ‘terrorist state’ in carrying out its bombardment of Gaza, underlining hostility for Ankara’s former ally since relations between them collapsed in 2010.
His comments came after nearly a week of Palestinian rocket attacks on Israel and Israeli air strikes on the Gaza Strip. An Israeli missile killed at least 11 Palestinian civilians including four children in Gaza on Sunday.
‘Those who associate Islam with terrorism close their eyes in the face of mass killing of Muslims, turn their heads from the massacre of children in Gaza,’ Erdogan told a conference of the Eurasian Islamic Council in Istanbul.
‘For this reason, I say that Israel is a terrorist state, and its acts are terrorist acts,’ he said.
Ties between Israel and Turkey, once Israel’s only Muslim ally, crumbled after Israeli marines stormed an aid ship in 2010 to enforce a naval blockade of the Palestinian-run Gaza Strip. Nine Turks were killed in clashes with activists on board.” Read more.

By Barbara Starr – “Three U.S. Navy amphibious warships are returning to the eastern Mediterranean to remain on standby in the event they are needed to assist Americans leaving Israel in the coming days, according to two U.S. officials.
The officials stressed an evacuation remains an extremely remote possibility and the Obama administration is not currently planning for one. Americans who wish to leave the region now are able to do so using commercial airlines.
But the decision to send the ships even if the event is such a remote contingency underscores the growing concern about where the Israel-Gaza conflict could be headed.
‘This is due diligence. It is better to be prepared should there be a need,’ one official said Monday. Both officials said the ships would be used only for assisting Americans and not for any combat role.
The most immediate impact will be on the ships’ crews and the estimated 2,500 Marines on board. They had been scheduled to return to Norfolk, Virginia, just after Thanksgiving; their homecoming will now be delayed several days depending on events, the officials said.
The ships involved are the USS Iwo Jima, the USS New York and the USS Gunston Hall.” Read more.

By FARES AKRAM, JODI RUDOREN and ALAN COWELL, The New York Times – “GAZA CITY — The top leader of Hamas dared Israel on Monday to launch a ground invasion of Gaza and dismissed diplomatic efforts to broker a cease-fire in the six-day-old conflict, as the Israeli military conducted a new wave of deadly airstrikes on the besieged Palestinian enclave, including a second hit on a 15-story building that houses media outlets. A volley of rockets fired from Gaza into southern Israel included one that hit a vacant school.
Speaking at a news conference in Cairo, where the diplomatic efforts were under way, the Hamas leader, Khaled Meshal, suggested that the Israeli infantry mobilization on the border with Gaza was a bluff on the part of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel.
‘If you wanted to launch it, you would have done it,’ Mr. Meshal told reporters. He accused Israel of using the invasion threat as an attempt to ‘dictate its own terms and force us into silence.’
Rejecting Israel’s contention that Hamas had precipitated the conflict, Mr. Meshal said the burden was on the Israelis. ‘The demand of the people of Gaza is meeting their legimitate demands — for Israel to be restrained from its aggression, assassinations and invasions, and for the siege over Gaza to be ended,’ he said.
Mr. Netanyahu met with top ministers Monday evening and Israeli media said they discussed the next steps in the Gaza conflict, including the possibility of a truce. Israeli officials declined to comment on those reports.
The Hamas Health Ministry said Monday evening that a total of 107 people had been killed since Wednesday morning, when Israeli airstrikes began, following months of Palestinian rocket fire into Israel.” Read more.

The Times of Israel – “Israeli special forces are deployed in Gaza searching for hidden rockets and weapons, the Sunday Times reported on Sunday, amid fears that a desperate Hamas might affix chemical weapons to its remaining long-range Fajr-5 missiles.
According to the report in the London weekly, which was not attributed to any source, the commandos are looking for missiles hidden underground, a favorite tactic of Hamas.
As Gaza terrorists over the weekend targeted Tel Aviv, a concern for Israeli officials is the threat that Hamas may fit chemical warheads on its long-range Fajr-5 missiles, the newspaper said, quoting an unnamed defense source.
‘Hamas might go for a desperate attempt to launch rockets with chemical warheads if the worst came to the worst,’ the source said.” Read more.

Canada: ‘I’ve Never Heard Of This Many Swans Being Found Dead In One Place And At One Time’
By Dan Dakin, St. Catharines Standard – “The Ministry of Natural Resources has been called in to investigate why 14 swans died over the weekend in Martindale Pond.
The swans were discovered by a rower near Henley Island, who called the Lincoln County Humane Society.
‘We picked up 13 dead swans Monday morning and another one was dropped off by a member of the public,’ said LCHS executive director Kevin Strooband. ‘This is very unusual for us to come across and because of that it raises flags. So we automatically investigate.’
Because of their orange and black beaks, the birds were most likely mute swans, which breed in the wild and are far more common than trumpeter or tundra swans.
Wild animals fall under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Natural Resources, so it will be their responsibility to follow up once they reopen after being closed Monday for Remembrance Day, Strooband said.
There’s no initial indication what may have happened to the birds, but an Ontario swan expert called the deaths ‘very unusual.’
‘I’ve never heard of this many swans being found dead in one place and at one time.’ said Harry Lumsden, an Aurora man who used to work for the Ministry of Natural Resources and is now involved with the Trumpeter Swan Restoration program.
He said because the deaths are so unusual, the ministry will likely send a few of the birds to the Canadian Cooperative Wildlife Health Centre at the University of Guelph for a post-mortem examination.” Read more.
Thousands Of Birds Drop Out Of The Sky In England, ‘It Was A Harrowing Sight’

Fishermen have reported seeing hundreds of common migratory birds plunging to the deaths in the past week.
‘While fishing about 10 miles south of Portsmouth, we witnessed thousands of garden birds disorientated, land on the sea and most drowning,’ one boat skipper told Britain’s Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB).
‘Species included goldcrests, robins, thrushes and blackbirds. The sky was thick with garden birds. I estimate I saw 500 birds die and that was just in our 300-yard sphere.
‘On the way home we just saw dead songbirds in the water: it was a harrowing sight.’
RSPB conservation director Martin Harper said the scale of the deaths was shocking and could affect the survival of the bird species.
Experts believe the birds fell victim to a combination of fog and heavy winds as they travelled across the north sea from Scandinavia.” Read more.

By Tim Reid – “SANTA MONICA, Calif (Reuters) – Two leading U.S. economists expressed deep pessimism on Friday that politicians in Washington will be able to strike a deal to rein in America’s soaring national debt.
Sheila Bair, the former chairman of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, and Stephen Roach, a veteran economist at Yale University’s School of Management, also said the Federal Reserve was creating another catastrophic financial bubble with attempts to stimulate the economy through its policy known as quantitative easing.
The two were speaking at a conference on global risks sponsored by the Rand Corporation and Thomson Reuters, at Rand headquarters in Santa Monica, California.
Bair, who stepped down as head of the FDIC in July 2011, said the Federal Reserve’s policy of pumping money into the economy, combined with an unprecedented period of historically low interest rates, was creating ‘the mother of all bond bubbles.’
Bair said she believed the United States was heading for a financial crash on the scale seen when the housing market collapsed six years ago, but this time because of investors who were looking for higher and riskier returns in other asset classes.
Roach called the Federal Reserve policy of low interest rates and quantitative easing a ‘ticking time bomb that keeps on ticking.’
The two spoke as congressional leaders in Washington met with Obama to try to find common ground on taxes and spending that will allow them to head off a looming ‘fiscal cliff’ that could push the U.S. economy back into recession.
About $600 billion worth of tax increases and spending cuts begin to kick in on January 1 unless Congress can find a way to replace them with less severe deficit-reducing measures before then.” Read more.
