For peaceful purposes, perhaps? He was apparently hearing “threatening and abusive voices” in his head before slaughtering the helpless teen and needed them to stop. No word yet on what those voices said, but I have a couple of ideas about what they included …

Manchester Evening News – “A teenage gap-year student was knifed to death in the street in broad daylight by a ‘laughing’ stranger in Manchester, a jury has heard.

Kieran Crump-Raiswell, 18, was heading to look for a job when Imran Hussain, 27, walked up to him and ‘without warning’ stabbed him four times in the chest, Manchester Crown Court was told.

Witnesses to the shocking scene in Whalley Range said Hussain appeared to be ‘sniggering’ as he ran to his car and drove off, jurors heard.

The killing was the second of two street assaults committed on total strangers within 12 days in January.

Mature student Hussain, from Bracknell, Berkshire, drove from his student flat in Coventry on January 4 and punched a man in the face in Nottingham and ran off.

On January 16, he travelled up to Manchester from Coventry.

Peter Wright QC, prosecuting, said: ‘It is the prosecution case that on this occasion, fortified by the apparent ease at which a stranger could be attacked, this time he travelled to Manchester armed with a knife and intending to kill someone.’

Hussain drove around Whalley Range and Chorlton in the early afternoon for around a hour.

‘He was driving around the area, stopping and then carrying on,’ he said. ‘We say he was now looking for a suitable victim.’

Hussain parked his vehicle in Upper Chorlton Road and then got out with a knife as his victim walked along nearby, he continued.

Mr Wright said: ‘Kieran crossed the road and then entirely without warning he approached him and he stabbed him to the front and back of his chest four times before running off.’

He said the defendant initially denied involvement in either of the incidents when he was arrested days later.

But he ‘changed his tune’ when the evidence against him began to unravel.

Hussain went on to claim he had been hearing ‘threatening and abusive voices’ and that he travelled to the two cities to confront them.” Read more.

Palestinian Jihadist Group Claims Credit For Arizona Wildfire That Killed 19 Firefighters

Even if they are not responsible, the fact that Islamic jihadists can so easily take credit for events that have resulted in mass death and destruction should be no surprise. Islam is, after all, symbolized in Scripture as a man called Death …

By DAVID BARNETT, The Long War Journal – “A Palestinian jihadist group, Masada al Mujahideen, recently claimed credit for ongoing wildfires in Arizona in a statement posted to jihadist forums today. The statement, titled ‘Masada al-Mujahideen Fulfilled its Promise and Attacked America Again After the Expiration of the Period with Fires that Achieved Historic Results,’ was obtained and translated by the SITE Intelligence Group.

‘We had previously announced an unconventional war against the occupation state of Israel, and then we escalated this war to reach its main supporter, America, so that it receives a major share of it, which will destroy their flora and fauna, with permission from Allah and then with our hands,’ the group said.

The statement further said that the group targeted the United States ‘in order to make it clear and to make it know we can reach it when we warn it, and to make it certain that our hands don’t just reach it but also strike it.’

The group warned that the attacks ‘will not be the last…if America does not respond to our demands.’ The statement boasted that 19 firefighters had been killed in the fires.

Contrary to the claims of Masada al Mujahideen, authorities have said that they believe the fires were started as a result of lighting.

Today’s statement was not the first highly dubious claim by the jihadist group related to fires in the US. In January 2012, the group claimed credit for wildfires in Nevada.

According to SITE, in addition to claiming responsibility for fires in the US, the jihadist group has claimed credit for more than a dozen fires in Israel since 2010.” Read more.

Egypt: Islamist Group Calls Upon Supporters To ‘Take To The Streets’ After Friday Prayers, Morsi Supporters Clash With Police

By Gil Ronen, INN – “There is fear in Egypt that bloodshed will take place on Friday, the first Friday after the military deposed elected Islamist president Mohammed Morsi following demonstrations by millions of citizens.

The Egyptian Islamic Coalition, headed by the Muslim Brotherhood, called on supporters to take to the streets after the Friday prayers and hold huge rallies. Citizens were asked told to “demonstrate peacefully and say ‘no’ to the army’s arrests and ‘no’ to the military coup.

The Coalition said it was time ‘to break the collusion with corrupt figures from the period of the Mubarak regime.’

Al Ahram explained that the Coalition is an umbrella group that unites 40 Islamic movements, parties and organizations. It is headed by the Muslim Brotherhood and its polical party, the Freedom and Justice party.” Read more.

Muslim Brotherhood Announces It Wants Nothing To Do With Military’s New ‘Civilian Government‘ – “‘We declare our complete rejection of the military coup staged against the elected president and the will of the nation,’ the Brotherhood said in a statement that the group’s senior cleric Abdel-Rahman el-Barr read to Morsi’s supporters staging a days-long sit-in in Cairo. ‘We refuse to participate in any activities with the usurping authorities,’ it said. There are fears of a violent backlash from Islamists against the army move, particularly from hard-liners, some of whom belong to former armed militant groups. Supporters Of Deposed Morsi Clash With Police And Military Near Cairo University – “Violence in Egypt has been renewed, some 24 hours after elected president Mohamed Morsi was deposed by the military. Egyptian media reported that there were clashes Thursday afternoon between supporters of Morsi and security forces at A-Nahda, near Cairo University. Several protesters climbed atop military armored personnel carriers and called out slogans against the military council that deposed Morsi. Security forces fired in the air to disperse the crowd. Sudan: Islamic Leader Calls For More Decisive Action Against Christians As Muslims Convert To Christianity

For this “Religion of Peace” leader, raiding Christian bookstores, destroying churches, bombing Bible schools, arresting, beating, threatening to crucify and bury Christians alive isn’t working well enough to stem the tide of converts to Christianity. ICC – “An Islamic leader has rebuked his government for not taking decisive action against Christians operating ‘boldly’ in the country, typifying the disturbing response of Islamic leaders to the growth of the Church in Sudan.

On May 14, Ammar Saleh, the chairman of the Islamic Centre for Preaching and Comparative Studies, bemoaned the increase in apostasy, the growth of the Church and the alleged failure of the state to protect Islam from the double threats of Christianity and Atheism.

Saleh pointed out the disturbing decline in people’s interest in converting to Islam, stating that it was non-existent. He argued that anyone who believes there’s growth in Sudan’s Islamic faithful is ‘living on Mars,’ drawing attention to increasing proselytizing and an exodus of Muslims to Christianity.

Taking Khartoum as a pattern of things, he pointed out that aggressive missionary work resulted in 109 ‘apostates’ who abandoned Islam and turned to faith in Christ. He also added that cases of apostasy and atheism are on the rise, while authorities are negligent in addressing the issue. He expressed concern over the way the figures were rising in a ‘continuous’ and ‘scary’ fashion, especially with the presence of atheists and homosexuals.

Although Islamic law has not yet been fully implemented, Saleh derided his government for neglecting the issue of apostasy, appealing to official bodies and the community to take a stand against the ‘Christianization’ of Sudan and find a long-term solution to the problem. He also stated that the government’s efforts to curb the rise of Christianity were timid as compared to the efforts of missionaries to lead people to Christ.

In response to his comments, Open Doors USA Spokesman, Jerry Dykstra, says, ‘The bad news is that he wants to put more pressure on the government and the army to crack down on the Christians there. But the good news is that many there are coming to Christ. It’s been difficult for them obviously, but they are growing in numbers’…

In February, at least 55 Christians linked to the evangelical church in Khartoum were detained without charge. On Feb. 18, the cultural center of the Sudan Presbyterian Evangelical Church in Khartoum was raided by the National Intelligence and Security Services. Three people were arrested and several items were confiscated, including books and media equipment, according to Charisma News.

Churches are being forced to close down, foreign workers are being kicked out of the country and Christians are constantly pressurized by the government and society in all kinds of ways, so much so that the recent increase in Christian persecution in Sudan moved the country from being ranked 16th on the 2012 Open Doors World Watch List to 12th in 2013.” Read more.

NASA’s Hubble Telescope Snaps ‘Comet of the Century’ Fireworks

By Tariq Malik, Space.com – “The Comet ISON shines like a cosmic skyrocket in a new video from the Hubble Space Telescope as the icy wanderer, which some astronomers have billed as a potential ‘comet of the century,’ streaks through our solar system at a staggering 48,000 mph.

The new Comet ISON video, which NASA released Tuesday (July 2), is a time-lapse view created from images of the comet obtained using the Hubble telescope on May 8. At the time, the comet was about 403 million miles (648 million kilometers) from Earth and crossing between the orbits of Jupiter and Mars. NASA officials likened the comet’s extreme speed to a skyrocket on the Fourth of July.

‘The movie shows a sequence of Hubble observations taken over a 43-minute span and compresses this into just five seconds,’ NASA officials explained in a video description. ‘The comet travels 34,000 miles in this brief video, or 7 percent of the distance between Earth and the moon. The blue hue of ISON in the new video is actually a false-color view of the comet as it appeared through the Wide Field Camera 3 on the Hubble Space Telescope.

Mississippi: Red Tide, Low Oxygen Blamed As 80+ Tons Of Dead Fish Wash Ashore Southern Coast

WLOX – “Eighty tons of dead fish and there’s still more. On Wednesday crews with the Harrison County Beach Authority were back cleaning up the dead fish from Monday’s Jubilee fish kill.

The Jubilee left thousands of dead fish floating in the Mississippi Sound mostly between Long Beach Harbor and the Biloxi Small Craft Harbor. Several people got in the water to scoop up an easy catch. But, beach vendors say the fish kill is also an easy way to hurt busy.

‘Fifteen-feet of just straight fish floating out in the water and by midday they all washed out onto the shoreline. So when our customers saw that they kinda, they all decided to leave. It smelled pretty bad. Your eyes were burning if you were down here. You kinda hurt your respiratory system. You could feel it tingling,’ said beach vendor Damien Mckeown.

Harrison County Sand Beach Director Chuck Loftis says crews will be back out Thursday to clean up the left over fish found primarily inbetween Debuys Road and the coliseum. All the fish are going to a landfill.” Source – WLOX.

Researchers Blame Red Tide, Low Oxygen Blamed For ‘Jubilee’ Fish Kill – “Researchers now know what caused a widespread fish kill along the beaches of South Mississippi Monday. Thousands of dead fish started washing ashore in Harrison County, Hancock County, and Cat Island in the early morning hours.The Department of Marine Resources says one reason is low oxygen levels, due to the warm water. Several samples also pointed to Red Tide algae blooms in the Mississippi Sound that can deplete the oxygen and clog the gills of fish.” Read more.

Syria: 15-Year-Old Christian Girl Systematically Raped By Islamist Rebels, Muslim Cleric Declares Rape Lawful In Islam

Agenzia Fides – “Mariam was a 15-year-old Christian from Qusair, a city of the governorate in Homs, 35 km south of the capital. The city, which had become a stronghold of the Syrian rebels, was reconquered by the troops of the regular army at the beginning of June. Mariam’s story – sent to Fides thanks to the report of two Catholic priests – is a sign of the brutality of the conflict and the extreme vulnerability of religious minorities. Mariam’s family was in town when militants linked to the jihadist group ‘Jabhat al-Nusra’ conquered and occupied it.

While her family was able to escape, Mariam was taken and forced into an Islamic marriage.

Fides sources point out that, through social networks, the fatwa was widespread in Syria produced by Yasir al-Ajlawni – A Salafi sheikh of Jordanian origin, resident in Damascus – who declared lawful, for opponents of the regime of Bashar al-Assad, rape committed against ‘any non-Sunni Syrian woman.’ According to the fatwa to capture and rape Alawi or Christian women is not contrary to the precepts of Islam.

The commander of the battalion ‘Jabhat al-Nusra’ in Qusair took Mariam, married and raped her. Then he repudiated her. The next day the young woman was forced to marry another Islamic militant. He also raped her and then repudiated her. The same trend was repeated for 15 days, and Mariam was raped by 15 different men. This psychologically destabilized her and made her insane. Mariam, became mentally unstable and was eventually killed.

‘These atrocities are not told by any International Commission’ say to Fides two Greek-Catholic priests, Fr. Issam and Fr. Elias who have just returned to town. The two are collecting the cry’s and complaints of many families. ‘Who will do something to protect civilians, the most vulnerable?’ they ask. As reported to Fides, the two have just celebrated a Mass to consecrate again the Catholic church of St. Elias in Qusair.

Days earlier, a letter was circulated in al-Minya, which has a very large Coptic population, calling on Copts not to join the protests, otherwise their ‘businesses, cars, homes, schools, and churches’ might ‘catch fire.’

Thus this church attack is part of the price Egypt’s Christians had to pay to protest Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood.  Time will only tell what other attacks Egypt’s harried Copts will pay down the line for participating in the ousting of an Islamist president.” Source – Raymond Ibrahim.

Muslim Brotherhood Enraged After Egyptian Military Ousts Islamist President Morsi, Suspends Constitution

By Abigail Hauslohner, William Booth and Sharaf al-Hourani, The Washington Post – “CAIRO — The Egyptian military removed President Mohamed Morsi from power Wednesday and suspended the constitution in moves it said were aimed at resolving the country’s debilitating political crisis.

In a televised address to the nation after a meeting with a group of civilian political and religious leaders, the head of the powerful armed forces, Gen. Abdel Fatah al-Sissi, said the chief of Egypt’s constitutional court ‘will assume the presidency’ on an interim basis until a new presidential election is held. Sissi said the interim president will have the right to declare laws during the transitional period.

The announcement came as huge crowds of pro- and anti-government protesters massed in the streets of Cairo and the army deployed armored vehicles. In the afternoon, a top adviser to embattled Morsi had declared that a military coup was underway and warned that ‘considerable bloodshed’ could ensue.

Up until the announcement, the Egyptian military had denied that it was staging it a coup. According to the official Middle East News Agency, top commanders were backing Muslim and Christian religious leaders, youth representatives and the head of a liberal opposition alliance in jointly presenting a ‘roadmap’ for a political transition.

The plan is the result of an emergency meeting between military and civilian leaders, including top Muslim and Coptic Christian clerics and opposition leader Mohamed ElBaradei, the state-run news agency reported.

Without mentioning Morsi by name in a heavily anticipated eight-minute speech at 9 p.m. Wednesday night, Sissi said the military had responded to the people’s demands in an act of ‘public service.’

‘The armed forces have tried in recent months, both directly and indirectly, to contain the internal situation and to foster national reconciliation between the political powers, including the presidency,’ Sissi said. But those efforts had failed, he said. The president, he added, ‘responded with negativity in the final minutes.’

In a meeting with ‘religious, political and youth symbols,’ the military accepted a ‘roadmap that will achieve a strong Egyptian society that does not alienate any of its children or strains, and ends this division,’ Sissi said.

The announcement sparked cheers and celebration among Morsi opponents packed into Cairo’s Tahrir Square.

But in eastern Cairo, supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood, an entrenched Islamist movement that backs Morsi, erupted in angry chants following Sissi’s speech, and stones started flying.” Read more.

By Richard Engel, Charlene Gubash and Erin McClam, NBC News – “CAIRO — An adviser to Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi said Wednesday that a military coup was underway, that tanks were on the move outside Cairo and that communication with the president had been cut off.

As a military deadline came and went for Morsi to step aside, the army took control of state television, and boisterous crowds opposed to the regime cheered and danced in Tahrir Square.

Representatives of the Muslim Brotherhood, which supports Morsi, also said that some of its leaders had been rounded up and arrested.

Al Hayat TV: President Morsi Under ‘House Arrest’ – “Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi is reportedly under house arrest after the military ultimatum expired Wednesday, reports Al Hayat TV. Morsi’s spokesman denied the report, according to ABC News, but word of the house arrest provoked cheers in Tahrir Square. This comes as Egypt’s military moved to tighten its control on key institutions before their afternoon ultimatum expired. The military stationed officers in the newsroom of state television on the banks of the Nile River in central Cairo. Troops were deployed in news-production areas.” Read more.

On Sunday, June 23rd, a young man and his family were verbally and physically assaulted (with an iron rod) by five Muslim men. During the assault, the Muslim men did the Nazi salute while screaming ‘Heil Hitler, we should have burned you all and finish the job in ’40. Dirty Jew, I will burn your house with you and your sons in it.’ The rest of their remarks were even more obscene.

This story began when a young Jewish man, concerned for the safety of some children attempting to cross the street in front of his house (while a neighbor was racing his motocycle up and down that street), asked the neighbor, who was Muslim, to wait and stop. The neighbor tried to run the young man with his motocycle. The young man’s family came to his rescue and four other Muslim assailants then joined in and assaulted all of the family members. One young Jewish woman ended up with a broken wrist.
