‘Utter Cruelty’: Reporter Documents Islamist Beheading In Syria, ‘The Crowd Began Cheering, Everyone Was Happy’

Jeremiah 5:29, “‘Should I not punish them for this?’ declares the LORD. ‘Should I not avenge myself on such a nation as this?'”

If the words of Jeremiah rang true against the rebelliousness of an unfaithful Israel, how much more will the Lord surely punish the wickedness of this “harlot”? Warning: The link following the excerpt contains images that may be extremely disturbing to some …

Psalms 94:3, 21, 23, “How long, LORD, will the wicked, how long will the wicked be jubilant? … The wicked band together against the righteous and condemn the innocent to death… He will repay them for their sins and destroy them for their wickedness; the LORD our God will destroy them.”

By Patrick Witty, TIME – “All wars are vicious, but the civil war in Syria seems every day to set new standards for brutality. As the fighting rages in its third year, increasing numbers of atrocities are committed by soldiers and fighters from forces loyal to the regime of President Bashar Assad, as well as armed rebels and Islamic militants from the numerous, loosely aligned groups opposing Assad. The violence is frequently sectarian in nature, with fighters claiming they act in defense of their faith, be it Sunni, Alawite, Shiite or any of the other sects that contribute to Syria’s religious landscape.

The perpetrators of atrocities themselves often use digital cameras or smartphones to photograph or film their acts of torture and murder, uploading the images to the Internet. These images and videos are used for propaganda, and their authenticity is often impossible to verify. It is very rare that a group of fighters from either side gives a professional photojournalist from a country outside Syria full and unfettered access to chronicle an atrocity as it unfolds. The images above are products of that access.

What follows is a harrowing series of photographs of Islamic militants publicly executing, by decapitation, a young Syrian in the town of Keferghan, near Aleppo, on August 31, 2013.

Because of the danger in reporting inside Syria, it was not possible to confirm the identity or political affiliation of the victim. Nor are we certain about the motivation of his killers. One eyewitness who lives in the area and was contacted by TIME a week after the beheadings said that the executioners were from ISIS, an Al-Qaeda franchise operating in Syria and Iraq.

TIME obtained the images exclusively from a photographer who was recently in Syria. This decapitation was the last of four executions he documented that day. TIME has agreed not to publish the photographer’s name,  to protect him from repercussions when he returns to Syria. What follows is an edited account of his experience:

The man was brought in to the square. His eyes were blindfolded. I began shooting pictures, one after the other. It was to be the fourth execution that day I would photograph. I was feeling awful; several times I had been on the verge of throwing up. But I kept it under control because as a journalist I knew I had to document this, as I had the three previous beheadings I had photographed that day, in three other locations outside Aleppo.

The crowd began cheering. Everyone was happy. I knew that if I tried to intervene I would be taken away, and that the executions would go ahead. I knew that I wouldn’t be able to change what was happening and I might put myself in danger.

I saw a scene of utter cruelty: a human being treated in a way that no human being should ever be treated. But it seems to me that in two and a half years, the war has degraded people’s humanity. On this day the people at the execution had no control over their feelings, their desires, their anger. It was impossible to stop them.

I don’t know how old the victim was but he was young. He was forced to his knees. The rebels around him read out his crimes from a sheet of paper. They stood around him. The young man was on his knees on the ground, his hands tied. He seemed frozen.

As everyone here is well aware, this goes on every day, somewhere in this world! It is beyond “disgusting,” beyond “morality” on any level!

At least in the days of past, this was done on a “chopping block” with a swift “stroke!” Why do these people insist on using the dullest blade they can find? It IS beyond my understanding!

AND then, ever since I read that these Muslims probably have nothing more than an I.Q. of between 50 & 70, perhaps that is the reason, they are nothing more than…imbeciles! TRUE, the leaders of these people have higher I.Q.’s (such as Blair & Obama) as they are “using” these other’s to do their “dirty work!”

I realized something tonight; there are two paths on which we could easily become ensnared, if we are not careful. The first path is one of an increasing hatred for Muslims, and the second is the road of ambivalence, we just hear, and read, so much about inhuman, Islamic atrocities, that we become desensitized. Both of these roads are spiritually dangerous.

Honestly, I’m not sure if I am able to love these people. I try to, out of obedience, but all too often I often catch myself wanting to kill them, or at the very least, wishing them dead. It frightens me sometimes to know that I harbor such thoughts. I don’t know what to do, I don’t even know what to pray for anymore.

Remember, Denise, Jesus said NOT to waste your Prayers or time on “swine!” You have “prayed” for them, delivered the message, and obtained help from other’s for these people. You have done everything that Jesus has taught us to do, if they still don’t hear, then you have done what has been asked and now you must “move-on” to those who will listen and truly NEED your “prayers” and NEED to hear the Word!

        Thank you bobby,
Today at sundown we begin the Feast of Yom Kippur, which is really a fast, it is also Shabbat. Liv 16: 29-32, commands Israel, (and also the strangers that are joined to her) to keep this day by fasting, praying, and by not working.

I know that many Christians don’t see a need to acknowledge, or to Observe this day, mainly because we have access to GOD continually, through Yeshua, and can repent all the time. We keep this day because GOD has commanded everyone to fast, and to pray on this day.

Do you remember the man that showed up at the wedding and did not have his wedding garment? Do you recall what happened to him? Not only was he not allowed access to the wedding, but he was bound and thrown into the lake of fire.

There is a Yom Kippur coming when Yeshua will complete the process of making atonement for our souls, before the Father, and we will be completely cleansed. At that time we will be given our white wedding garments. Until that day we are to keep the Feasts, and to keep watch for the arrival of the King. These Feast Days are rehearsals for the real day. I hope that this information will bless you.
