Out of the seven different Arabic versions of the Qur’an, which one is the most correct?

God is spirit (John 4:24). But Jesus is the visible image of the invisible God. (Colossians 1:15).

John 1:1,14, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God … And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten [monogenēs] of the Father, full of grace and truth.”

Jesus is God who had come down to us and was manifested in the flesh and, “being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to His own advantage; rather, He made Himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to death — even death on a cross! Therefore God exalted Him to the highest place and gave Him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Philippians 2:6-11).

Jesus was humble. He did not need to boast about who He was. Instead, He demonstrated who He was on a number of occasions by claiming the authority to forgive sins (which only God can do – Mark 2:10), by accepting worship (which only God can receive – Matthew 14:33), by raising people from death to life (which only God can give – John 11:43), by promising eternal life to those who believe in His death and resurrection on the cross (which only God can promise – 1 John 2:25), by claiming to have existed even before Abraham and using the Divine Name of the “I AM” for Himself (which would have been blasphemous if He were not God – John 8:58). Jesus did not need to boast about who He was and say “I am God.” But if the Jews of His day understood full well the significance of what He had said and done, you should, too. Jesus said, “‘I and My Father are one.’ … The Jews answered Him, saying, ‘For a good work we do not stone You, but for blasphemy, and because You, being a Man, make Yourself God.” (John 10:30, 33).

Whether one is Christian or Muslim, we agree that we have all sinned and that the end result of sin is death (Romans 6:23). Sin separates us from God (Isaiah 59:2) and, since God is the Giver and Sustainer of life (Genesis 2:7), separation from Him means that eternal death in the Lake of Fire will inevitably follow (Revelation 21:8). But because of His love for you and I the God of Heaven came down to us (John 3:16), was born in the flesh (John 1:14), lived a sinless life (1 Peter 2:22; Hebrews 9:14), and though sinless He willingly bore the punishment of sin — death — upon Himself and died in our place upon a Cross so that we could live with Him forever (Philippians 2:5-8; Revelation 22:12). All you have to do is simply believe in your heart from this day forward the very thing that the teachings of Islam tell you to completely deny: The death and resurrection of the only begotten Son of the Living God (1 Corinthians 15:3-4). Then, and only then, can you be saved from eternal damnation.

This Truth is being shared with you today. What I’ve shared with other Muslim visitors I share with you as well, so please think about this very carefully. In light of the fact that even Mohammed himself did not know for certain what would happen to him in the afterlife, why should any Christian who knows beyond a shadow of a doubt that they are guaranteed eternal life through faith in the Jesus of the Bible give up the Christian faith of Jesus for the Islamic faith of Mohammed which we know will guarantee us nothing? You, too, can have the same guarantee that we as Christians share. All you have to do is believe in and put your faith and trust in Jesus Christ, and Him crucified. Seek the Lord while He may be found, for today is your day to truly become a believer, and tomorrow may be too late. Would you be willing to pray with an open heart and ask God to guide you to His truth, even if that truth is found in the Jesus of the Bible, and not in Islam?

Hi Shami Javed, thank you for visiting. The conclusion you’ve come to is all-too indicative of Islam’s misconception regarding the Sonship of Christ and the Triunity of God and is one of the fundamental problems within Islam: It does not even understand what Christians believe. This is because Mohammed never really understood Christianity at all himself. What is the “highest place” in your view? Would it not be the throne of God?

First, please be aware that the term “son of God” in the Bible does not mean “biological” son of God. The term “son of God” is an anthropomorphism and is intended to be understood in a figurative sense, not in a wooden literal sense. It is a metaphor to describe a relational identity. In John 3:16, Jesus is called the only “begotten” son of God (the Greek word monogenēs) which means “unique” or “one of a kind.” As Christians, we are all called God’s children (Matthew 5:9; Romans 8:16; Galatians 3:26; Galatians 4:5-6; Ephesians 1:5, etc.) But this term is an analogy to describe our relationship to our Heavenly Father. We are not literal biological “sons” and “daughters.” Even the angels are called “sons of God” in the Bible (Job 1:6; 2:1; 38:7). Adam is also called the son of God as well (Luke 3:38). But Jesus is called the only “unique” son of God in Scripture for a very good reason. In the Old Testament, before Jesus came as a child into this world, He appeared before His people as the “Angel of the Lord.” He revealed Himself in the burning bush that spoke to Moses on Mount Sinai. He appeared before Joshua as the Commander of the Hosts of Heaven. And in the New Testament He is the eternal “Word of God” — called the “unique son of God” — because He is God in the flesh and there is no one else like Him.

It does not “make sense” only if you accept the erroneous teachings of the Qur’an, teachings which grossly misrepresent what Christianity teaches in this regard. Due to Mohammed’s misunderstanding of what followers of Jesus Christ believed and practiced, Islam teaches that the Christian belief of the Trinity is a polytheistic teaching of “three gods”, characterized as the “Father”, and the “Son” and the “Virgin Mary.” Not only does the “Virgin Mary” have nothing to do with the Trinity (it is the Holy Spirit, not Mary), we believe in One God only and One God that is Triune. Not three gods. To use an analogy to illustrate this, let’s consider a star. When we observe our sun, for example, we observe three distinct things: light, heat, and a flame. Yet, the light is the sun. The heat is the sun. The flame is the sun. Although these three are distinct, do we orbit three stars, or only one? Likewise, the Father is called God in Scripture (Philippians 2:11), and so is the Word made flesh whom we now call the unique “Son of God” (John 1:1,14; Colossians 2:9), and so is the Holy Spirit (Acts 5:3-4). Even though there is a clear distinction, there is only One God. It is the Word of God that came down to us, born in a manger, grew to be a man knowing His mission was to sacrifice Himself on a cross and take the punishment of our sin upon Himself. This is how a man who was manifested by God is also God in the flesh.

I’m curious to know how you feel about the fact that the universe itself exists as a “Trinity” of time, space and matter, which are themselves comprised of past-present-future, length-width-depth, and solid-liquid-gas? Scientific discoveries have demonstrated that the nature of the universe exists as a “Trinity of Trinities”. Are these the “fingerprints” of God, as it were? I say Yes.

In a book titled “The Jewish Trinity” by Yoel Natan, the author demonstrates how Moses and other Bible writers wrote strikingly and often about the Triune nature of God and about the deity of the Messiah. In his review, Roswell T. Bonovitz, Professor Emeritus of Biblical Languages, points out how “Gravity was always there, but it took a Newton to discover it. Lightning was always electrical. It took a Franklin to recognize it, and a Steinmetz to tame it, and an Edison to light up our lives with it. The fact is now indisputable that the Jews in Jesus’ day believed in the Triune God. The proof was always there in the Bible. Many theologians even suspected it. But it took Yoel Natan to dig it out and prove it beyond dispute… our Hebrew forebears understood and worshipped the Holy Trinity as clearly as the writers of the Apostles’ Creed… All the evidence has been there staring us in the face for two millennia.” And indeed, it has. As Deuteronomy 6:4 declares, “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD.” Literally translated, “Hear, O Israel: Yahweh and our Elohim are a united one.” The Old Testament demonstrates a plurality in the Godhead that is a united One, and this distinction is reaffirmed in the New Testament: “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him” (John 14:23). Again, out of the seven different Arabic versions of the Qur’an, which one is the most correct? Let’s simply compare two versions alone briefly. Below is a copy of a random page from one of the Qur’ans in question. You can see the variant readings listed in the margin. Which is the most accurate? Approximately two thirds of the verses of the Qur’an have some type of variant, which total approximately 4000 variants. Out of the 4000 examples, which reading is the most correct?

Let’s think about what you are saying, Shami. What you are suggesting is that the Bible was, at some time, the true Word of God, but then you suggest that God was unable to protect His Word from corruption because it had “been changed through human hand” many times. Please answer this for me: Is God not All-Knowing and All-Powerful? You and I would both agree that, yes, He is. If God is indeed Omniscient and Omnipotent then is He not more than able to protect His Word from corruption? Of course He is. The Qur’an itself even claims that “none can change His Words: for He is the one who heareth and knoweth all” (Sura 6:115-116). So if the Bible was His Word at some time in the past, and if “none can change His Words” then either the Bible remains His Word, or the Qur’an is wrong. Which is it? The Bible itself even made it clear that His word would be preserved “from this time on and forever” by the Prophet Isaiah:

Isaiah 59:1, “‘As for me, this is my covenant with them,’ says the LORD. ‘My Spirit, who is on you, will not depart from you, and my words that I have put in your mouth will always be on your lips, on the lips of your children and on the lips of their descendants — from this time on and forever,’ says the LORD.”

Moreover, if the Bible was somehow superseded by the Qur’an as Islam teaches, then why is it that even Muslim archaeologists acknowledge there are many aberrations that exist in old Qur’anic texts? They admit that pieces of the earliest Qur’ans known to exist were clearly written over even earlier, washed-off versions, suggesting an evolving text rather than simply the Word of Allah as revealed in its entirety to Muhammad. When it comes to the Bible, however, archaeological discoveries confirm that Biblical manuscripts and fragments dated even hundreds of years before Mohammed are virtually identical to the canonized Biblical texts we have today. When Muhammad recited the Qur’an, he clearly stated that he did not believe that the Bible was corrupt at that time and called upon Christians to adhere to the Scriptures that they had already possessed. But this begs the question: Since the Scriptures we have today are the same Scriptures that Christians had even well before the time of Mohammed, when do you believe the Bible could have possibly been corrupted, who corrupted it, and how was it corrupted?

The problem with Islam in this regard is that it makes a claim while providing absolutely no evidence whatsoever in support of it, and still does so even in the face of all the evidence that contradicts Islam’s claim and supports the Biblical text. That is a very shaky foundation upon which to build the religion of Islam.

The Bible taught all of these things, and much much more, hundreds of years before the Qur’an/Hadiths. Why should we believe the Qur’an when it obviously plaigiarizes certain details from the Bible?

Here’s something else that the Bible taught hundreds of years before the “prophet” Mohammed:

Matthew 7:15, “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.”

1 John 2:22b, “… He is antichrist who denies the Father and the Son.”

1 John 4:1, “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world.”

2 Thessalonians 2:9-10, “The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved.”

2 Corinthians 11:14-15, “But I am not surprised! Even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. So it is no wonder that his servants also disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. In the end they will get the punishment their wicked deeds deserve.”

Again, as Christians we have been forewarned by the Apostle Paul in 2 Corinthians 11:4 against accepting the teachings of those who “preach another Jesus” or “another gospel” than that which we have already been given by the Apostles of Biblical Scripture. Whether it be the Jesus and teachings of Mormonism, or the Jesus and teachings of Jehovah’s Witnesses, or the Jesus and teachings of Islam, they all fall well short of the Jesus and teachings of the historic Christian faith that was delivered to the saints. In fact, if anyone “or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed” (Galatians 1:8-9). Yet according to Islam, the angel “Gabriel” gave another gospel to Mohammed which, instead of rejecting, he decided to accept.

Jesus forewarned His believers that “false prophets will appear and deceive many people” who would even “perform great signs and miracles to deceive even the elect — if that were possible” (see Matthew 24:11,24). The Apostle Paul calls them “counterfeit miracles” or “lying wonders” in his epistle to the believers in Thessalonica (2 Thessalonians 2:9) whereby many would be deceived — not just a few, but a large number of people who would be lead down a road of serious theological error by the false teachings, false signs and false miracles of false prophets. Have you wondered why Islam teaches that the Qur’an itself is a “living miracle”? Or why it is taught that Mohammed’s war victories and his ascent into Heaven during the “Night Journey” were “great signs”? Questioning these “great signs and miracles” and viewing them through the lens of critical thinking is paramount to questioning the “Word of Allah” to the Islamic mindset, evidenced by the fact that the history of Islam itself has been one of anti-intellectualism whereby Muslims are discouraged from asking difficult questions about Mohammed or about the Qur’an and its teachings. Why would this be, unless it has something to hide?

Why have you chosen a bad book like the Qur’an that contains provable scientific and even historical errors? For example:

* Science has shown us that the sun does not set in a spring of murky water, yet the Qur’an says otherwise (Sura 18:86).

* Science has confirmed that the earth is spherical, yet the Qur’an says otherwise (Sura 2:22, 15:19, 50:7, 78:6-7, 88:20).

* Science discovered that the stars are not close to us, yet the Qur’an says otherwise (Sura 37:6).

* Science discovered that the earth did not exist before the creation of the universe, yet the Qur’an says otherwise (Sura 2:29).

* Science discovered that male sperm comes from the testicles, not from between the backbone and the ribs, yet the Qur’an says otherwise (Sura 86:6-7).

* Science discovered that flesh is formed before bones, yet the Qur’an says otherwise (Sura 23:14).

In addition to these scientific errors, how could Allah have made historical errors? For instance, the Qur’an mentions Jesus’ mother Mary as being the sister of Moses and Aaron and the daughter of Imran. “The Qur’an has confused Jesus’ mother with Aaron’s sister because both of them carry the same name, though there are several centuries between them. The Qur’an indicates that Mary (Christ’s mother) had a brother whose name was Aaron (chapter 19:28) and a father whose name is Imran (chapter 66:12). Their mother was called ‘the wife of Imran’ (chapter 3:35) which eliminates any doubt that it confuses Mary, mother of Jesus, with Mary, sister of Aaron.

Muslim scholars acknowledge what happened and they are confused and fail in their desperate attempts to justify this grave error. Their contradictory interpretations fail to help them to find a solution to this dilemma.” Read more here.

Shami, how can you in good conscience declare a book that is proven to have evolved throughout the centuries and that has been proven to be in err both scientifically and historically to be “unchanged” and “eternal” and “true”? We can go on and on, but the serious issues that I’ve outlined above alone — embarrassing textual issues and errors that Muslim apologists are forced to somehow reinterpret, rationalize and otherwise explain away — all beg the question: What else is the “holy” Qur’an wrong about?
