By Michael Carroll, Herald – “A CONFESSED Turkish killer of two Irish women asked for reporters to be banned from his trial because media reports were ‘depressing him’.

THE request came shortly after the defendant, former waiter Recep Cetin, admitted the charges of murdering Marion Graham and Kathy Dinsmore, both 53 and from Newry, Co Down, in August 2011, at the Fifth High Criminal Court in Izmir, Turkey.

Recep Cetin, appearing in court alongside his alleged accomplice father, Erup Cetin, appealed for the media to be banned because of the effect reports were having on his mental health.

He complained he was being treated like, ‘a Christian, an atheist or communist’ in the trial.

‘I am a Muslim. My father is innocent, yet he has been in prison for one and a half years. Camera records show my father was not at the scene,’ he added…

Cetin claimed he was suffering from depression because of media coverage of the case and called for the court to remove reporters from the courtroom.

‘I have read reports claiming I cut off the victim’s heads,’ he said.

‘I murdered them, that is true. But the media has reported false allegations.’

Despite his admission of guilt, Cetin defended his father and denied that he had any involvement in the double murder.

‘I swear to this country, to this nation, that whatever my father says is true. I am guilty and my guilt is a sufficient punishment for me,’ he said.” Read more.

By Raphael Ahren, The Times of Israel – “Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday described Zionism as a ‘crime against humanity’ on par with anti-Semitism and fascism.

Speaking in Vienna at a United Nations event devoted to dialogue between the West and Islam, Erdogan decried rising racism in Europe and the fact that many Muslims ‘who live in countries other than their own’ often face harsh discrimination.

‘We should be striving to better understand the culture and beliefs of others, but instead we see that people act based on prejudice and exclude others and despise them,’ Erdogan said, according to a simultaneous translation provided by the UN. ‘And that is why it is necessary that we must consider — just like Zionism or anti-Semitism or fascism — Islamophobia as a crime against humanity.’

The Turkish leader’s comments, made at the official opening of the fifth UN Alliance of Civilizations Global Forum, drew harsh criticism from UN Watch, a Geneva-based watchdog group monitoring anti-Israel bias and human rights abuses at the organization.

‘Erdogan’s misuse of this global podium to incite hatred, and his resort to Ahmadinejad-style pronouncements appealing to the lowest common denominator in the Muslim world, will only strengthen the belief that his government is hewing to a confrontational stance, and fundamentally unwilling to end its four-year-old feud with Israel,’ UN Watch said in a statement.

The group also criticized UN chief Ban Ki-moon — ‘who was present on the stage yet stayed silent’ — for not condemning Erdogan’s remarks.

‘We remind Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon that his predecessor Kofi Annan recognized that the UN’s 1975 Zionism-is-racism resolution was an expression of anti-Semitism, and he welcomed its repeal,’ the statement said.

UN General Assembly Resolution 3379, which was adopted by a vote of 72 to 35 (with 32 abstentions), stated that ‘Zionism is a form of racism and racial discrimination.’ Due to US pressure, it was revoked in 1991.” Read more.

By David Lev, INN – “An Israeli Arab group, ‘The Al-Aqsa Heritage Institute,’ on Thursday issued a statement demanding that Israel halt its plans to bring more Jews to the Kotel (Western Wall) – which, the group claims, is holy not to Jews, but to Muslims.

In fact, the group says, Israel is ‘defiling the holiness of the site’ by conducting Jewish prayers there.

In Jewish tradition, the Kotel is the outer retaining wall of the Holy Temple, which stood on the Temple Mount, approximately at the same location as the Al-Aqsa Mosque. When the Holy Temple was destroyed nearly 2,000 years ago, Jews were prohibited from worshipping on the Mount, first by the Romans and then by the Muslims, and proscribed from doing so by Jewish law – and adopted the Kotel as a place of prayer, as it was the closest place to the Holy Temple as the could get.

In Islamic legend, however, the Kotel is a Muslim site – famous as the wall that Muhammad used to tie up his donkey when he ascended to heaven on his ‘night journey’ from the Temple Mount. The ‘Buraq Wall,’ as Islamist groups call the Kotel, is a part of the Temple Mount, and thus has the same status for Muslims as the Al-Aqsa Mosque, or the other holy places in the area.

In a statement this week, the group said that ‘the Buraq Wall, west of the Al Aqsa Mosque, is one of the main objectives of the Israeli occupation. As a result, more than 10 million Israelis and tourists violated the holiness of the site during 2012, this according to the occupying police force. The occupiers are proud of this large number, and say in fact that they want to double the number of visitors within a few years,’ the statement said.

‘Such plans endanger Al-Aqsa by making it a target for direct Israeli occupation,’ the statement said. ‘The Al-Buraq Wall along with the entire area around Al-Aqsa, including the Mugrabi neighborhood (the term used by the group for the Jewish Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem), destroyed in 1967, is holy Muslim land, and an inseparable part of the Al-Aqsa property,’ the statement added.” Source – INN.

Alerta Digital (Translated) – “Swedish police are investigating a case of animal abuse after a photo published on the net where four men appeared with the severed head of a cat. One held the animal’s head while another was carrying a knife and the cat’s body.

After leaving the photo on the net, new images have been revealed where you can see how the cat is skinned by a man with a large knife and standing proudly with the cat’s head.

Östergötland police were investigating the case, but it finally went to Nykoping. According to a police report, the man with the cat’s head has been identified as a citizen of Vagnhärad, Sweden. The only one identified is the prime suspect of animal cruelty because the picture was published.

Following the identification, the portal has been exposed to reveal the identity of the four men involved through their social profiles on Facebook.

According to the website, who holds the animal’s head by the name of Hamza Tchaki, of Tunisian origin. At his side, holding the knife appears Youssef Ben Ali, while the left is Kuorbam Uomama with a baseball cap. Finally, the man who is at the bottom of the photo is Firas Mani. They are all Tunisian govern.

Cruelty Toward Animals Is A Good Indicator Of Future Cruelty Toward People – “According to a 2001-2004 study by the Chicago Police Department, as reported by The Humane Society, ‘Of those arrested for animal crimes, 65 percent had been arrested for battery against another person.’ 65 percent is an overwhelming majority and, surprisingly or not, this statistic is not one of a kind. The Humane Society lists many more documented and researched cases that share similar figures. For example, ‘of 36 convicted multiple murderers … 46 percent admitted committing acts of animal torture as adolescents’ or ‘of seven school shootings that took place across the country between 1997 and 2001, all involved boys who had previously committed acts of animal cruelty.’ All of these statistics echo a similar morbid message: cruelty toward animals is a good indicator of future cruelty toward people.” Read more.
