Morocco: Sixteen-Year-Old Girl Commits Suicide After Being Forced to Marry Her Rapist According to Muslim Tradition
“RABAT, Morocco — The case of a 16-year-old girl who killed herself after she was forced to marry her rapist has spurred outrage among Morocco’s internet activists and calls for changes to the country’s laws.
An online petition, a Facebook page and countless tweets expressed horror over the suicide of Amina Filali, who swallowed rat poison on Saturday to protest her marriage to the man who raped her a year earlier.
Article 475 of the Moroccan penal code allows for the ‘kidnapper’ of a minor to marry his victim to escape prosecution, and it has been used to justify a traditional practice of making a rapist marry his victim to preserve the honor of the woman’s family.
‘Amina, 16, was triply violated, by her rapist, by tradition and by Article 475 of the Moroccan law,’ tweeted activist Abadila Maaelaynine.
Abdelaziz Nouaydi, who runs the Adala Assocation for legal reform, said a judge can recommend marriage only in the case of agreement by the victim and both families.
‘It is not something that happens a great deal — it is very rare,’ he said, but admitted that the family of the victim sometimes agrees out of fear that she won’t be able to find a husband if it is known she was raped.
The marriage is then pushed on the victim by the families to avoid scandal, said Fouzia Assouli, president of Democratic League for Women’s Rights.
‘It is unfortunately a recurring phenomenon,’ she said.’We have been asking for years for the cancellation of Article 475 of the penal code which allows the rapist to escape justice.’
The victim’s father said in an interview with an online Moroccan newspaper that it was the court officials who suggested from the beginning the marriage option when they reported the rape.
‘The prosecutor advised my daughter to marry, he said ‘go and make the marriage contract,’’ said Lahcen Filali in an interview that appeared on goud.ma Tuesday night.

‘Extraordinary and Unprecedented’: SWIFT Cuts Off Iran As Sanctions Vice Tightens
“BRUSSELS — Iran was largely cut off from global commerce on Thursday, when the company that handles financial transactions said it was severing ties with many Iranian banks – part of an international effort to discourage Tehran from developing nuclear weapons.
The action is meant to enforce European Union sanctions, as global financial transactions are impossible without using SWIFT, and will go a long way toward isolating Iran financially.
The Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication, or SWIFT, is a banking hub crucial to oil, financial transactions and other trades.
Because of its reach, SWIFT’s decision to cut off some 30 Iranian banks and subsidiaries could hinder not only banking but also the country’s lucrative crude oil industry and possibly hurt Iranian households that depend on remittances from relatives living abroad.
‘Disconnecting banks is an extraordinary and unprecedented step for SWIFT,’ said Lazaro Campos, chief executive of the company. ‘It is a direct result of international and multilateral action to intensify financial sanctions against Iran.'” Read more.

Muslim Gangs Terrorize Denmark, ‘With Islam Comes Fear, And With Fear Comes Power’
Unless something drastic happens, this will become commonplace in America in our lifetime …
By Soeren Kern – “More than 140 Muslim gang members were arrested in Denmark after they tried to raid a courthouse where two fellow Muslims are being tried for attempted murder.
The Muslims — all members of criminal street gangs that have taken over large parts of Danish towns and cities — were wearing masks and bullet-proof vests and throwing rocks and bottles as they tried to force their way into the district courthouse in Glostrup, a heavily Islamized suburb of Copenhagen, on March 6.
Police used batons and pepper spray to fend off the gang members, who were armed with an arsenal of 20 different types of weapons, including crowbars, darts, hammers, knives, screwdrivers and wooden clubs.
The trial in Glostrup involves two Pakistani immigrants accused of shooting and attempting to murder two fellow Muslims who belong to a rival gang. Police say the accused used a nine millimeter handgun to carry out the crime in Ballerup, a Muslim suburb northwest of Copenhagen. The trial began on February 28 and is scheduled to run through March 28.
The shooting was related to an escalating turf war between rival Muslim gangs from the Værebroparken housing estate in Bagsværd, a suburb of Copenhagen, and Nivå and Kokkedal in northern Zealand. Immigrant gangs are believed to be responsible for at least 50 shootings in and around Copenhagen during the past several months.
The recent violence is reminiscent of an earlier conflict between immigrant gangs and Danish gangs like the Hells Angels or the AK81 that left many people dead or wounded in Copenhagen and other Danish cities.

“The ACT Supreme Court has overturned a will created on the basis that ‘one boy is equal to two girls’ and therefore sons should get double the inheritance of daughters.
Fatama Omari challenged the legitimacy of the will of her mother, Canberra woman Mariem Omari, saying she had not known what she was doing when she signed it in January 2002 – two months before she moved to a nursing home.
As one of five daughters, Fatama Omari received just a half share of the estate according to the will, while her three brothers received a full share each.
Master David Harper said the will followed a precedent for Muslims, and Imam Adama Konda confirmed during the hearing that ‘the standard expectation is that a Muslim will leave full shares to sons and half shares to daughters’.
‘He said that one boy is equal to two girls,’ he said.
Master Harper ruled that the will was invalid, but only because she was likely suffering dementia at the time she signed it – not because it was otherwise invalid.
He said she had not understood what she was doing when two of her sons took her to a friend to execute the will in January 2002.
‘This is so notwithstanding that if it had not been for her dementia, she might well have decided to make a will in the same or similar terms,’ he said.
Master Harper said that several witnesses remembered Mariem Omari saying she wanted her will to be created in accordance with the Muslim faith.” Read more.

Veterans gathered Tuesday afternoon to protest in front of the Lake County Democratic Party headquarters, where the flag — featuring Obama’s face in the blue section where the stars normally go — was flying beneath a traditional American flag. The confrontation ended after party chairwoman Nancy Hurlbert took the flag down, according to the Sentinel.The protest started after Don Van Beck, a Korean war veteran and executive director of the Veterans Memorial at Fountain Park in Leesburg, Fla., snapped several pictures of the flag and distributed them to others. He told WFTV-TV seeing it made his blood boil.
‘I can‘t describe how upset was because you just don’t do that to the American flag,’ he told the station.
The group demanded Hurlbert remove the flag, saying it was a violation of the federal flag code that prohibits any ‘marks, insignia, letters, words, figures, designs, picture or drawings of any nature,’ the Leesburg Daily Commercial reported. According to the Sentinel, Hurlbert said she would look into the issue but didn’t take the flag down right away. A short while later, she conceded and removed it.” Read more.

The investigation found that the ‘disposal process’ of the Korans was improper but was not a malicious act intended to show disrespect for Afghans or Islam.
The probe was conducted by the International Security Assistance Force and the Afghan Ministry of Defense.
‘It did find that there were some U.S. personnel who did improperly treat these religious texts, including some of their supervisory personnel,’ said Navy Capt. John Kirby, a Pentagon spokesman. ‘And it recommended that they be reviewed for potential disciplinary action.’

Modiin Energy and Adira Energy discovered an estimated 128 million barrels of oil and 1.8 trillion cubic feet of gas in their Gabriella and Yitzhak licenses, in shallow water less than 15 miles northwest of Tel Aviv.
Officials called the find ‘significant’ and added, ‘Surveys conducted in recent months found oil in the target strata. The potential oil reservoir is 128 million barrels of oil, and the contingent reserves are an additional 120 million barrels.’
‘Bottom line, there is oil. It’s 100 percent. Secondly, the quantities are commercial,’ said Tzachi Sultan, controlling shareholder of Modiin.
The Gabriella license is near shore in shallow water. ‘At a time of soaring oil prices, this is good news for IDB, Modiin, Adira, said Chaim Gavriella, CEO of the IDB holding company that owns most of Gabriella’s shares.

Poll: Majority of Mississippi’s Likely GOP Voters Believe Barack Obama is a Muslim

Seems like many in the “Magnolia state” believe that there’s a “rotten apple” in the White House. Public Policy Polling released the results of a recent poll on Monday revealing that a majority of likely GOP voters in Mississippi believe that President Barack Obama is a Muslim. When Republicans in Alabama were asked, “Do you think Barack Obama is a Christian or a Muslim, or are you not sure?” 45% answered “Muslim,” 41% answered “not sure,” and only 14% selected “Christian.” In Mississippi, a full 52% believed Obama was “Muslim,” 36% selected “not sure,” and just 12% believed he was “Christian.”
It is no secret that Obama has repeatedly claimed to be a Christian. But a quick review of his behavior and policies during his first term as President is leading many to believe that he is behaving more like the adherent of another faith, as one who appears to despise acknowledging the Judeo-Christian God yet seems to have little issue with the god of Islam, exemplified by the fact that he has pandered to Islam in his willingness to flood America with Muslim immigrants while largely ignoring Christians seeking asylum and fleeing Muslim persecution. He placates to Islamists and Sharia Law, which has done absolutely nothing to advance peace or security. In fact, terrorism in America has increased under Obama’s “leadership”, yet he seems to think that it’ll go away if he pretends it doesn’t exist.
This behavior corresponds with why he has treated Israel – the only true democracy and proven ally in the Middle East – more like an enemy while treating Israel’s enemies more like a friend. The Necessity of Anti-Sharia Laws
By Robert Spencer – “Louisiana, Arizona ,and Tennessee have already passed legislation restricting the use of foreign law in state courtrooms, and twenty-one other states are considering similar laws. These statutes are designed to halt the use of Islamic law, sharia, by American judges — a measure that many see as necessary, since sharia has already been involved in cases in twenty-three states. Many see this as an alarming encroachment upon First Amendment protection of religion; however, anti-sharia laws do not actually infringe upon religious freedom at all, and they become more urgently needed by the day.
In the March issue of First Things, law professor Robert K. Vischer equates anti-sharia laws with recent intrusions upon the religious freedom of Christians, such as laws that now require ‘pro-life pharmacists to dispense the morning-after pill’ and ‘Christian adoption agencies to place children with same-sex couples, and religious entities to pay for their employees’ contraceptives.’ He asserts that ‘[t]he recent spate of ‘anti-Sharia’ initiatives is just the most politically popular example of such threats’ to religious freedom.
This is a widespread misapprehension. The Associated Press recently noted that critics of anti-sharia laws view the drive to pass them as an ‘unwarranted campaign driven by fear of Muslims.’ In criticizing an anti-sharia amendment to the Oklahoma state constitution that gained seventy percent of the vote in a state referendum but was later struck down, Daniel Mach, director of the American Civil Liberties Union’s Program on Freedom of Religion and Belief, said:
This amendment did nothing more than target one faith for official condemnation. Even the state admits that there has never been any problem with Oklahoma courts wrongly applying religious law. The so-called ‘Save Our State Amendment’ was a solution in search of a problem, and a blatantly discriminatory solution at that.’
Ryan Kiesel of the ACLU’s Oklahoma branch declared: ‘No one in Oklahoma deserves to be treated like a second-class citizen. This proposed amendment was an affront to the Constitution and everything it stands for.’ The Muslim writer Reza Aslan hysterically and inaccurately charged that ‘two-thirds of Americans don’t think Muslims should have the same rights or civil liberties as non-Muslims.

Unfunctionally Nutty: Outrage as Syria Stays on UN Human Rights Body
In addition to this senseless decision, the “we-seek-to-be-Sharia-compliant-and-never-hurt-Muslim-feelings” United Nations has called upon the US military to punish the Qur’an burners for their “grave mistake.” It has appointed “let’s-turn-South-Korea-into-a-sea-of-fire” North Korea to head a conference on disarmament. It has appointed “let’s-stone-even-pregnant-women-to death-for-adultery” Iran to its Commission on the Status of Women. I think it’s high time for “still-equipped-with-a-smidgen-of-common-sense-and-dignity” countries to do what should have been done long ago and withdraw all funding for this useless organization. Otherwise, they might consider doing something else completely cockeyed, such as praising Libya’s “charged-and-wanted-for-war-crimes” dictator Muammar Gaddafi and his regime for its exceptionally good human rights record. The UN’s education, science and culture agency voted to keep Syria on its human rights committee, despite protests from the US and the UK. Syria will keep its seat on the Unesco board and human rights panel. The vote was 35 for, eight against, with 14 abstentions and one absent at the meeting in Paris today.
Hillel Neuer, executive director of the Geneva-based UN Watch, said: ‘For Unesco to keep President Bashar al-Assad on a human rights committee while his regime mercilessly murders its own people is simply immoral, indefensible and an insult to Syria’s victims. While today’s text rightly condemns Syria’s violations — a welcome first for Unesco — the promised call to oust the regime from Unesco’s human rights panel has been completely excised.’
‘We’re left with words, but no teeth. By maintaining Assad in a position of global influence on human rights, Unesco today is sending absolutely the wrong message. It an unconscionable insult to the suffering people of Syria.
‘The world squandered a golden opportunity to expose the Assad regime’s lack of legitimacy. Politics simply trumped human rights, with too many Unesco diplomats fearing that if Syria were removed for its violations, many of them would be next.'” Read more.

UK: Vandals Desecrate Memorial Garden in Essex Dedicated to British Troops Who Died In Afghanistan
By ANGELLA JOHNSON AND POLLY DUNBAR – “A memorial garden for British troops killed in Afghanistan has been desecrated by vandals who struck at a military chapel in Essex.
A plaque in honour of seven soldiers who lost their lives in 2007 was smashed to pieces and a wooden cross destroyed.
News of the attack comes after The Mail on Sunday last week revealed how an armed mob in Libya had filmed themselves desecrating the war graves of more than 150 British servicemen at Benghazi.
The latest outrage happened in the memorial garden in the grounds of the chapel of The Royal Anglian Regiment in Warley, Brentwood.
The garden was built in honour of nine soldiers from the regiment who died during the same tour five years ago. Lance Corporal Darren George, a member of the regiment who was 22 when he became the first British casualty of the Afghan war in April 2002, has a plaque devoted to him inside the chapel.
Last night, his widow Sarah condemned the vandalism, which left pieces of the memorial scattered across the ground along with flowers from a wreath.
‘I couldn’t believe it when I heard,’ she said. ‘It’s disgusting that anybody would do something as nasty as that. I hope the police find whoever did it. The timing was just so callous.’
Essex Police last night confirmed that they were aware of the damage. Retired Royal Anglian Major Tony Jones, 59, who oversees the chapel, said: ‘The damage was mindless thuggery, as far as I can see. They snapped the plaque in half. I feel sad about it.
‘We have never had problems before but it is the only memorial site we have out in the open. We will be replacing it – some local people have already offered to pay for it.’” Read more.

“A US soldier in Afghanistan has killed at least 16 civilians and wounded five after entering their homes in Kandahar province, senior local officials say.
He left his military base in the early hours of the morning and opened fire in at least two homes; women and children were among the dead.
Nato said it was investigating the ‘deeply regrettable incident’.
Anti-US sentiment is already high in Afghanistan after US soldiers burnt copies of the Koran last month.
US officials have apologised repeatedly for the incident at a Nato base in Kabul, but they failed to quell a series of protests and attacks that killed at least 30 people and six US troops.
Local people have reportedly gathered near the base in Panjwai district to protest about Sunday’s killings, and the US embassy is advising against travel to the area.
Lt Gen Adrian Bradshaw, deputy commander of Nato-led forces, said he was unable to ‘explain the motivation behind such callous acts’, adding that ‘our thoughts and prayers are with those caught in this tragedy’.” Read more.
