Why I Hate Religion, But Love Jesus || Spoken Word (Video)
By Jefferson Bethke – “A poem I wrote to highlight the difference between Jesus and false religion. In the scriptures Jesus received the most opposition from the most religious people of his day. At it’s core Jesus’ gospel and the good news of the Cross is in pure opposition to self-righteousness/self-justification. Religion is man centered, Jesus is God-centered. This poem highlights my journey to discover this truth. Religion either ends in pride or despair. Pride because you make a list and can do it and act better than everyone, or despair because you can’t do your own list of rules and feel ‘not good enough’ for God. With Jesus though you have humble confident joy because He represents you, you don’t represent yourself and His sacrifice is perfect putting us in perfect standing with God!”
Indonesia: 25 Volcanoes Now Under Alert or Watch Status for Showing Abnormal Activity
Padang, West Sumatra – “Twenty-five volcanoes in Indonesia are now showing abnormal activity or have been put on alert or watch status, presidential special aide Andi Arief said here on Saturday.
‘According to official data, 25 volcanoes are now under alert or watch status and they must be given priority with regard to disaster mitigation planning at district or city levels,’ he said at a workshop on journalists’ role in disaster management.
He said in West Sumatra there were two volcanoes that need to be closely watched, namely Mount Marapi and Mount Talang, as they are still under alert status.
Mount Marapi is located in Agam and Tanahdatar districts and rises 2891 meters above sea level, and Mount Talang (2597 meters above sea level) in Solok district was located around 40 kilometers from the provincial capital Padang.
Apart from the two volcanoes, the government and regional disaster management agencies were also giving priority attention to Mount Papandayan in West Java, Mount Karangetan and Lokon in North Sulawesi, Mount Ijen in East Java, Mount Gamalama in North Maluku, Mount Krakatau in Banten and Lampung and Mount Lewoloto in East Nusa Tenggara.” Read more.
Israel: Arab Minority Responsible for Majority of Murders and Attempted Murders
Here’s another plan. Revoke Israeli citizenship and deport any and all Arabs who refuse to abide by the rule of non-Islamic law to Gaza and the West Bank where they’re free to live under Sharia …
By Omri Efraim – “Crime rates in the Arab sector are a cause for concern as Ministry of Public Security figures reveal that in 2011 Arabs were involved in 67% of the murder cases and 70% of attempted murder cases.
In efforts to fight the soaring crime rates, Internal Security Minister Yitzhak Aharonovitch will on Sunday present ministers with a perennial plan to improve personal and community security within the Arab sector.
The data also revealed that Arabs were involved in 38% of aggravated assault cases as well as 36% of robbery cases and 52% of arson incidents. Nevertheless, the crime rates referring to the Arab sector have remained at a steady rate for years.
The plan which the Ministry of Public Security began to implement in recent months include civic and law enforcement efforts. Three special policing units, including detective and investigation units in Nazareth, Tayibe and the police station serving the Bedouin communities in the south were established.” Read more.
S&P Cuts Credit Ratings for Nine Euro Nations: Cyprus, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Austria, France, Malta, Slovakia and Slovenia
“Standard & Poor’s cut the credit ratings of nine European countries on Friday in a widely-anticipated move. Rumors that the downgrades were imminent had been circulating in various reports throughout the day.
S&P lowered its long-term rating on Cyprus, Italy, Portugal and Spain by two notches, and cut its rating on Austria, France, Malta, Slovakia and Slovenia by one notch.
‘Today’s rating actions are primarily driven by our assessment that the policy initiatives that have been taken by European policy makers in recent weeks may be insufficient to fully address ongoing systemic stresses in the euro zone,’ S&P said in a press release announcing the downgrade.
The credit-rating agency affirmed the current long-term ratings for Belgium, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Ireland, Luxembourg and the Netherlands.
U.S. stocks slumped earlier amid buzz about the possible downgrades, though finished well off their lows. European shares closed lower.
In December, S&P placed the ratings of 15 euro zone countries on credit watch negative — including those of top-rated Germany and France, the region’s two biggest economies — and said ‘systemic stresses’ were building up as credit conditions tighten in the 17-nation bloc.” Read more.
Alaska: Anchorage on Track for Snowiest Winter on Record
All the snow meant for the lower continental US and large portions of Canada must have somehow been rerouted to the land of the midnight sun …
By Associated Press – “ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Heavy snow fell in Alaska’s largest city Thursday, adding to what already has been the snowiest period for Anchorage since records have been kept.
The National Weather Service predicted a snowfall of 8-16 inches, with the city’s upper Hillside neighborhoods expected to get the bulk of the snow.
It began snowing shortly before midnight. The heaviest snow was expected between 3 a.m. and noon.
‘It’s snowing pretty good right now,’ forecaster Christian Cassell said at 4:30 a.m. Thursday at the Anchorage weather service office. The snow had been intermittent but the rate was increasing.
‘We still expect a decent amount of snow,’ Cassell said.
Anchorage schools were open Thursday, but some school bus routes were canceled because of whiteout driving conditions. It mainly affects students living south of Anchorage and buses that must use the Seward Highway.
The weather service counts a snow year from July to June. From July 1 through Tuesday, Anchorage has received 81.3 inches of snow. Meteorologist Shaun Baines said that makes it the snowiest period for Anchorage since records have been kept.
If the pace keeps up through the last snows in either April or May, Anchorage is on track to have the snowiest winter ever, surpassing the previous record of 132.8 inches in 1954-55, Baines said.
About 150 miles to the southeast of Anchorage, the Prince William Sound community of Cordova has already been buried under 172 inches of snow since Nov. 1 and is trying to dig out from recent storms.
Another 4 to 7 inches could fall Thursday, Baines said.” Read more.
“Tim Tebow’s Fire”: John Parr Re-records “St. Elmo’s Fire” in Honor of Denver Broncos Quarterback Tim Tebow
Here’s a little something to go along with this story. Inspired by Tim Tebow, British musician John Parr has decided to re-record his 1985 hit song “St. Elmo’s Fire” in honor of the Denver Broncos quarterback. Parr begins by singing, “Growing up, gotta keep your eye on the ball”. This is something that Tebow has done exceptionally well, not only in terms of football, but where it truly matters: Faith …
Jesus – Savior or Prophet? It Matters!
By Jack Smith
Suppose you knew where it was, but you knew you would never have it; and, suppose you knew that others would. Would you help them along? Would you tell them about it, or would you keep it to yourself? Would you hide it from them, or even lie about the treasure itself? After all, if you can’t have it, why should they?
The Treasure is Jesus Christ. The one who will never know Him is the Prince of Darkness; and, he has decided to keep as many people away from the Treasure as he possibly can. Islam is one of his methods of doing so.
1 John 2:1-2 states, “My little children, I am writing these things to you that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world.” The word “propitiation” is translated from the Greek word, “hilasmos,” meaning, “. . . the ‘propitiation’ affected by the sacrificial death of Christ on the cross, whose atoning work eradicated the sin of human beings and appeased the wrath of God.” (Quoting, Stephen D. Renn, Expository Dictionary of Bible Words: Word Studies for Key English Bible Words Based on the Hebrew and Greek Texts, (Peabody, MA: Hendrickson Pub., 2005), s.v. “PROPITIATION,” WORDsearch CROSS e-book.). Thus, the death of Jesus Christ, the sinless, perfect, eternal, Lamb of God, provides the platform whereby forgiveness is offered to every human being on the face of the earth. His death ”propitiates” or satisfies the requirements of a holy and just God who cannot ignore sin, but provides the Lamb of sacrifice, Himself, and thereby satisfies the standards of righteousness He has placed upon Himself. Forgiveness is guaranteed by God, not because God is merciful, compassionate, and loving (although He is all of these things), but because Jesus has “purchased” salvation for the entire world (Galatians 3:13, 1 Peter 1:18). Salvation is a gift that must be “claimed”; one that must be Read more…
Denver Broncos’ Tim Tebow Wins With 316 Yards at 31.6 Yards Per Completion
Divine intervention? Maybe not. Coincidence? Could be. But after this game I still can’t help but to shout out a heartfelt “Amen” …
Update: According to John Ourand of Sports Business Journal, Tebow’s final quarter-hour overnight rating which included the winning score (8:00-8:15) was, yes, a 31.6. That’s three “3:16’s”. Divine intervention? Could be. Coincidence? Maybe not …
Romans 8:28, “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.”
“(NewsCore) – Tim Tebowed and Denver rose as one.
The Broncos quarterback’s 80-yard touchdown pass to receiver Demaryius Thomas on the first play of overtime against Pittsburgh both clinched Sunday’s game and wrote another improbable chapter in Tebow’s book of clutch plays to win high-pressure games.
His performance also borrowed a little magic from another famous book.
The devout Christian’s stat line in Sunday’s game mirrors the numbering of the Biblical passage that Tebow at times had painted on to his black eye paint during his career at the University of Florida — John 3:16.
The passage reads, according to the New American Standard Bible, ‘For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.‘
Officially, Tebow passed for 316 yards against the Steelers, completing 10 of 21 pass attempts — meaning he passed for 31.6 yards per completion.
After his final pass was caught and brilliantly taken downfield by Thomas, Tebow shrugged off three bad weeks — when he threw for just one touchdown and four interceptions — and took a knee and prayed in his classic style.
‘First and foremost, I just want to thank my savior, the Lord, Jesus Christ,’ Tebow said at the postgame press conference. ‘I am so thankful for the platform God has given me.'” Read more.
Justin Bieber: ‘I’m a Christian, I Believe in God, I Believe That Jesus Died On a Cross for My Sins’
Amen to that! If God can work in mysterious ways, this would even include using someone like Justin Bieber to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Whowouldathunkit? …
Romans 5:6-8, “For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
1 John 4:9-10, “This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.”

By Meaghan Murphy – “Justin Bieber has made a lifelong commitment to Jesus Christ – with a tattoo.
The 17-year-old ‘Baby’ singer was spied on a Los Angeles beach on Jan. 5 sporting a large portrait of the Son of God on his left calf.
The black ink portrait, which is approximately about 5” tall, appears to be inspired by an illustration for ‘The Mysteries of the Crown of Thorns,’ written by a Passionist Father in 1879.
While not quite of legal age (California law states that tattooing of minors is prohibited ), this isn’t Bieber’s first tattoo. He now has three tats in his growing collection, including ‘Jesus’ written in Hebrew on his rib cage and a tiny bird on his left hip.
‘I’m a Christian, I believe in God, I believe that Jesus died on a cross for my sins,’ Biber told the Associated Press in 2010. ‘I believe that I have a relationship and I’m able to talk to him and really, he’s the reason I’m here, so I definitely have to remember that. As soon as I start forgetting, I’ve got to click back and be like, you know, this is why I’m here.'” Source – Fox News.
Sweden: Wave of Violence and Shootings in Malmo Puzzles Swedish Police
Is what is happening now in Malmo, Sweden somehow related to this? Nothing at this time suggests that it is, but we can’t ignore the fact that where there are large populations of Muslims, there is often a higher rate of rapes and other violent crimes. No matter what the cause is, it needs to end …
By LOUISE NORDSTROM – “STOCKHOLM (AP) — A new wave of execution-style shootings in Sweden’s third largest city has left police puzzled, raising concerns that Malmo has become a magnet for gang-related killings.
On Thursday dozens of police took to the streets in the southern Swedish city of 250,000 to try calm the public and to collect tips about the attacks, which come only a year after a suspected serial shooter was arrested there.
‘We’ve never experienced anything like this before. It’s exceptional that there have been so many murders in such a short period of time,’ police spokesman Lars-Hakan Lindholm said. ‘People are worried of course and want to talk about it.’
In less than six weeks, five people have been shot dead in execution-style killings, prompting local police to ask for back-up from national investigators and for Malmo Mayor Ilmar Reepalu to call on the country’s justice minister to implement tougher gun laws.
Sweden’s gun control laws are fairly strict. Penalties for possessing illegal arms typically involve fines or up to one year in prison, but serious breaches of the law can result in a four-year sentence.
Lindholm said that due to the fast escalating death-toll police presence has now been bumped up by about 30 extra officers in the city on weekdays and by around 40 on the weekends. Malmo is an eclectic city, where about 40 percent of its residents are first- or second-generation immigrants.
The latest murder occurred on Tuesday, when a man in his late 40’s was shot dead in broad daylight on an open street near his Malmo home.
Two days earlier, a 15-year-old boy was killed in the midst of the Malmo New Year celebrations.
‘They’re almost like executions,’ Lindholm said of the killings, but noted that there are still no suspects in the slayings and police remain baffled to what the motives might be.” Read more.
Flashback: Losing Malmo: Sweden Surrenders Their Third Largest City … to Muslims – “Do you remember the jihadist terror campaign that ravaged Malmo, Sweden’s third largest city? Do you recall the bombings, the suicide-hijackings, and the random assassinations that finally coerced the city to surrender to Islamization? No? Funny, I don’t remember them either. Yet there is no question that Malmo has surrendered. Large enclaves of the city, like similar enclaves throughout Western Europe, have earned the dread label ‘no-go zone.’ They are unsafe for non-Muslims, particularly women who do not conform to Islamist conventions of dress and social interaction. They are especially perilous for police, firefighters, and emergency-medical technicians. Why would a community discourage the so-called first-responders? After all, the top priority of law-enforcement officers is to assist crime victims. In an Islamic enclave, a high percentage of these will be Muslims.” Read more.
Flashback: Muslim Violence in Europe Increases Sharply: Is It Crime or Jihad? – “The alarming increase in Muslim violence against indigenous Europeans the last several months has been virtually ignored by the American media. Is this due to respect for ‘peaceful’ Muslims, fear of the violent ones, or political correctness? I suspect it’s ‘all of the above.’ While the scant reporting that has occurred has mostly labeled the violence as ‘crime’ committed by Muslim ‘youths’ for ‘economic reasons,’ the facts suggest otherwise: When Ayatollah Khomeini returned to Iran from exile, he urged Muslims to move to Europe to claim it for Islam. They have moved there by the millions with precisely that intent.” Read more.
Atonement: Muslim vs Christian Understanding
Genesis 22:8, “And Abraham said, ‘My son, God will provide for Himself the lamb…'”
John 1:29, “The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, ‘Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!'”
By Jack Smith

This article will compare the concept of “atonement” in Christianity with that of Islam.
The Bible teaches that sin is universal (Isaiah 53:6); that is, everyone sins, and everyone falls short of God’s standard of righteousness (Romans 3:23). Mankind’s sinfulness acts as a separator between man and God (Isaiah 59:2), a barrier that removes humanity from God, and renders relationship with holy God, impossible. Hence, humanity is ”out-of-relationship” with God, and in need of being reconciled. Atonement is the doctrine whereby God and mankind are made ”at-one-ment,” that is, God and mankind are reconciled, and the nature of this new reconciled relationship is eternal and without end.
Since all have sinned and fallen short of God’s standard of righteousness, humanity cannot make amends for acts of sinfulness, nor can humanity’s righteous acts “offset” unrighteous acts. Isaiah 64:6 puts it this way: “For all of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous deeds are like filthy garments.” Man’s best efforts at righteousness are likened to filthy rags. How then can humanity ever make amends for unrighteous acts if our righteous acts are likened to filthy rags? Likewise, how then can “filthy rags” offset unrighteous acts? Quite the opposite occurs. Mankind is dismally separated from God and can do nothing to make things right. It is as if humankind has an incurable illness; an illness that will eventually render him eternally separated from a holy God.
Because of man’s condition, God acts to reconcile mankind to Himself. He does so by providing the means whereby mankind’s unrighteousness is made righteous. God provides a savior who is held accountable for the sins of humankind. The savior cannot be another sinner because a sinner cannot make atonement for even his own sins (sinners fall short of God’s standard, Romans 3:23), much less those of another sinner. The savior must be perfect, without sin, or the savior, himself, will fall short of God’s standard.

Here’s an odd update on this story. I’d say that the whole thing smells fishy, but that’s kind of hard to do now with the fish all gone. They’re swimming with the fishes, as it were. It turns out that Tide isn’t only great for cleaning dirty clothes. It works on beaches, too …
By Brad Lendon (CNN) – “Tons of dead herring that washed up on a Norwegian beach on New Year’s Eve are now gone, and no one is sure how they got there or where they went.
Local resident Jan-Petter Jorgensen told Norway’s TV2 he went to look at the thousands and thousands of fish after seeing a Facebook posting about them, according to a report on The Foreigner.
Joregensen said it was fortunate the icy cold prevented the mass of dead fish from raising a stink.
‘It is 15 degrees below zero today, so the cold means they don’t smell. Nevertheless, the smell will be pretty intense in the long run,’ he said, according to The Foreigner report.
Turns out that wasn’t a problem. Views and News from Norway reports that as of Tuesday, most of the dead fish were gone, perhaps pushed out to sea by tides and winds. The local mayor said they’ll likely sink in the ocean, according to the report.
Why they came to be on the shore remains a mystery.
Jens Christian Holst of the Institute of Marine Research in Norway told Norwegian Broadcasting the herring may have been chased ashore by predators, the Views and News report said.
‘In this area, we know there is a lot of (pollock) that graze on (herring),’ he said.
Seems like a reasonable explanation.” Read more.
